The brand-new Caterham GU10 Lamp - All LED’s newest eco-friendly, low consumption, high output, retrofittable GU10 lamp with OptiDim Technology. An advanced and highly engineered clever dimming technology allowing the lamp to smoothly dim to zero with no flicker or strobing. The only product of its kind boasting 99.1% compatibility with dimmer switches.

Even better, is the fact that these lamps are prepacked in boxes of 10, saving the countless hours wasted unpacking lamps on jobsites, whilst making clean up practically non-existent.

Designed in the UK to replace the standard junction box, the Smart-E contains push terminals and a hand operated cable clamp with ample room for wiring. The innovative, clean and crisp design which contains technology patented by All LED also fits through a 55mm spotlight hole. It is a fully retrofit solution which works with all existing wiring and provides hop and mesh technology.

The revolutionary and award winning iCan75 fire rated GU10 downlight by All LED has remained at the forefront of the lighting industry since its launch. The innovative twist and lock body allows all 24 bezels (fixed, adjustable and IP65) to be installed on the same fire rated body.

The iCan75 is also shallow-void compliant and an insulation-coverable cap accessory is available where required. One can, fire rated, and ultra slim bezels. Fixed Adjustable and IP65 in multiple colour variations, fit on the same fixture. The entire iCan range is 30, 60, 90 minute timber joist fire rated, as well as 30 minute StairCraft i-Joist fire rated and Wolf Systems Metal Web Joist Rated.

As technology in both lighting and construction improves, the attention to the very serious, but containable threat that a fire can pose to a building has become central to a variety of associated industries. Domestic and commercial properties contain ceilings that although normal in appearance, are actually fire barriers and are constructed to British or European standards that will help reduce the spread of a fire and help contain it. If this barrier is breached (for example by using a downlight or by making a hole) the fixture inserted into the breach must be ‘fire rated’ and must not affect the general integrity of the ceiling and/or its fire rating.

In general most UK domestic properties require fire rated fixtures and commercial properties will usually have concrete ceilings that are constructed to double up as a fire barrier (in this case fire rated fixtures are not a requirement).

Please consult with your local electrician for further advice on this. It is important that the fire rated downlight is suitable for the ceiling construction in which it is to be installed in and must not compromise the integrity of the fire barrier.

What is IP Zoning?

As a result of European standardisation, Amendment 1 of the 17th addition of the IEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671), the following regulations apply to bathroom lighting. 1

For anything outside zones 0, 1 & 2 this is treated as ‘outside of zones’, therefore no IP requirement (More: Regulation 701.32.4 of BS7671)

USEFUL LUMENS VS TOTAL LUMENS

▪ Non-Directional Light - Measured in a 360° sphere and displayed as total lumens which reflect the uniform light in all directions

▪ Directional Light - Measured in either a 90° or 120° cone and displayed as useful lumens disregarding light beyond cone area

▪ 120° - applies to light sources with a cone of light (Beam Angle) <120°

▪ 90° - applies to light sources with a cone of light (Beam Angle) <90°

Lumens (Luminous Flux) is the unit of measurement for visible light emitted from a light source. Delving into the concept of useful lumens helps to establish a clear understanding of the distinctions among various light sources and their emitted beams. A regular lamp distributes visible light in numerous directions, creating a broad beam angle, thereby earning the classification of a non-directional light source. On the other hand, spotlight lamps like the GU10 possess a directional beam angle where approximately 80% of their light falls within a 120° cone, categorising them as directional sources.

The measurement of useful lumens holds significant relevance in contemporary product design consideration. The methodology for quantifying useful lumens depends on the beam angle of the light source and the categorisation as directional or non-directional.

Non-Directional Light Sources

In simple terms, when a light source is designated as directional, only the visible light within a 90° or 120° cone is considered for measurement. Any light beyond this cone remains unmeasured and does not contribute to the useful lumens.

For instance, consider a directional lamp that emits a total of 600 lumens; however, the useful lumens might be 500. The remaining lumens are by no means wasted as they continue to be emitted from the light source into the surrounding environment. The concept of useful lumens helps us gauge the portion that falls within the specific 90° or 120° cone.

Conversely, if a light source is categorised as non-directional, it undergoes assessment within a 360° sphere. The total lumens are then presented as lumens or total lumens, given that the product radiates light uniformly in all directions.
