By Staff Reporter Tuesday April 16th, Brades— With the recent completion and hand over of the Solar PV project, Montserrat will soon see its first electric car as the island boasts its first electrical car charger at the Brades Ministry of Communication, Works, Energy and Labour (MCWEL) office.

The Honourable Minister for Energy, Paul Lewis in a speech last week, announced plans to conduct testing and exploration on the benefits to be gained from solar energy production. As part of the testing the first electric charger was installed and the first electric vehicle was purchased from Mega Power, a company out of England.

He said, “The installation of electric chargers in the 250kw projects at the main MCWEL headquarters building and the mechanic workshop is in preparation for the charging of our first electric car the Nissan LEAF expected to arrive on

island as part of the pilot program.”

He said, “The Pilot will allow and inform on the performance and savings using an electric car for transportation. There is a key interest given 47% of fuel imported is consumed by the transportation sector.”

In addition to the minister also revealed that they are expected to benefit from a series of workshops which are expected to prepare them for handling incidents associated with the new solar production system and its apparatuses. He stated “mechanic students and first responders can look forward to participating in knowledge exchange training workshops on maintaining and responding to incidents.”

Just weeks earlier, electricians and students received training on the installation of the solar 250kw panel from Salt Energy Company to be prepared and equipped to manage the new solar energy system.

Cpl Melvin Lindsey completes Skills at Arms Training Course

Monday April 15, 2019—Corporal (Cpl) Melvin Lindsey of the RMDF was adjudged as one of the top trainees at a recent two week Skill at Arms Training Course held at the Price Barracks, Ladyville British Army Training and Support Unit Belize (BATUB), in Belize.

According to a Royal Montserrat Defence Force (RMDF) press release, the course occurred from March 25 to April 5, 2019 with thirty (30) participants from different military branches within the Belize Defence Force. Lindsey was the only international student present.

His attendance was made possible through support of the British Defence Adviser’s Office based in Jamaica.

The Skill at Arms Course was designed to train soldiers to plan and conduct Skill at Arms lessons, plan and conduct battle lessons and exercises as well as acting as coach/safety supervisors on live firing on a gallery range.

The programme is geared towards Junior NonCommissioned Officers to develop their leadership as well as to plan and execute lesson plans. It is also aimed at increasing the training capabilities as the participants would be better able to train other members of the Force.

Should I betray my sister?

Dear Kate,

My sister and I have always been very close. I have done things with her, that no one knows to this day it was her. She is my best friend, my partner in crime. She had a baby last year for a well known older guy in Antigua. We found out that he had a girlfriend all the time and was lying about it, but he seems to be really into my sister.

The girlfriend (now ex) is a young professional person in the medical field.

Anyway, however it all went down, the relationship between this guy and his girlfriend ended badly after the discovery by the girlfriend that my sister was pregnant and expecting his child.

My sister called the girlfriend anonymously and broke the news to her, then covered it up and pretended it wasn’t her. My sister made the call to create an upset between him and the girlfriend, as would be expected. To this day, he doesn’t know it was my sister who made the call and the many other underhanded, and manipulative things she has done to him. She has sent photos etc. to the ex-girlfriends home of him and her.

She has keyed the girls vehicle. She spies on him constantly and has even gotten her hands on his call records, of course without his knowledge.

It was fun to me at the time. My sister now, believe it or not, has been cheating on this guy for some time now. Even through her pregnancy, to which he has no clue.

My sister pretends very well to be an innocent, sweet girl, that doesn’t talk much, but trust me Kate, she can kill, as people would say. At one point, she was not even sure, if this guy was the father of her child, or her secret lover. The secret lover has a woman and children who he lives with. So they are both very secretive.

They argue and fall out, but they always make back up. With neither of their partners knowing.

Kate, I happen to like my sister’s boyfriend as a person, although most of the family doesn’t trust him, but I think he is a cool guy. He also treats my sister very well financially too. However, he is seen as a joke to the few persons that know the double life my sister is living.

Should I stay loyal to my sister, or let him know he should not have let his woman go for her? Should I tell him he is being played, or let the chips fall where they may? Or should I just stop helping her cover things up, and leave her to live her life and mind my own business?

Guilt Ridden Hello Guilt Ridden Your sister seems to be in a messy situation and while I understand your predicament, you should probably stay out of it, lest you end up being burnt.

Nothing stays the same forever and dirty secrets have a way of coming out somehow.

If you feel you need to talk to someone then it should be your sister. Let her know the detriments of her double life on herself and especiall6y her child.

And if she doesn’t listen then leave it alone. Let the chips fall where they may.

She will suffer the consequences of her actions and when it happens make sure that you are blameless.

Premier urges public to remain calm in midst of budget delays

By Staff Reporter Tuesday April 16th Davy Hill—Premier Donaldson Romeo urged the public not to worry about the delayed budget, assuring that provisions were made to ensure the continued operation of government. The Honourable leader made the statement last week during an interview with the media.

During the last sitting of Legislative Assembly and the days following, the government has come under harsh criticism from opposition members for not presenting a budget to the honourable house on time. The criticisms were mainly directed at Premier Romeo who is the Minister with responsibility for Finance.

In an effort to clear the air on the issue, Romeo said in the interview, “—I signed a provisional warrant for the fiscal year 2019/2020. This allows government to draw down on monies on the consolidated fund to carry out the service of government—that means the monies will cover services up until the 30 of June 2019 or until the Appropriation Bill is passed in the Legislative Assembly— I’ve announced the date to be the 7th of May. So Premier Donaldson Romeo there is no real reason to panic or worry,—it does not hinder the capital program, it’s not holding up any projects or limiting any spending within (File Photo AEx) public service and government.”

Huge fire breaks out at Notre-Dame Cathedral in paris

French officials said they were doing all they could to tackle the blaze. However they said that water-dropping aircrafts could not be used as they posed a threat to the building’s structural integrity.

This form of action was suggested by US president Donald Trump on Twitter. “Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out,” he wrote.

If destroyed, it would be possible to rebuild the cathedral.

Thanks to the work of art historian Andrew Tallon, who passed away in late 2018, laser scans have been used to map the entire structure of the building.

Amy Frearson | 15 April 2019 Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris has caught fire, with flames visible from the roof and firefighters attending the scene.

Images emerged showing the upper parts of the gothic cathedral engulfed by flames. The 90-metre-high spire and parts of the roof completely collapsed, and the fire spread to the bell towers.

It took nine hours to bring it under control.

The fire started at approximately 7pm local time and brought hundreds of people out into the street of Paris.

A spokesperson for the cathedral told Associated Press that the cathedral’s wooden interior was ablaze and likely to be destroyed.

Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo described it as “a terrible fire” on her Twitter page, and urged onlookers to respect the security boundaries in place while the fire brigade tackled the blaze.

French president Emmanuel Macron cancelled a speech he was due to give so he could attend the scene. He also made a statement on Twitter, describing the situation as “emotion of a whole nation”.

“Thought for all Catholics and for all French. Like all our compatriots, I am sad tonight to see this part of us burn,” he said.

The cause of the fire is unconfirmed, but officials told BBC News it might linked to renovation.

The historic cathedral had been in bad condition after decades of damage from weather and pollution. Large cracks and fissures had appeared in the structure, and many of its gargoyles were either damaged or destroyed.

The restoration project was estimated to cost €150 million.

It was being partially funded by the French state, but additional funds were being sourced from private donors.

The building, constructed in the 12th and 13th centuries, is considered one the world’s finest examples of gothic architecture, thanks to its pioneering use of rib vaults and flying buttresses, as well as its striking stained-glass rose windows.

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily, gradually dwindled down. Making a brief statement at the ceremony, the Honourable Premier Donaldson Romeo said, “Today is a milestone for Montserrat as we formally commission our new 250kw Solar Photovoltaic (PV) type program. He revealed, “45% of fuel imported is spent on electricity generation, a yearly average of a whopping EC8.4 million all aided by us the cus-

tomer of MUL. After hearing those figures paid by you the consumers, I’m a 100% sure you are now all on board with this solar initiative and vision. —the vision to embrace various forms of renewable energy sources is reflected in the national energy policy, “The Power to Change”.

He boasted that, “This government has demonstrated that working with local regional and international expertise and the European Union funding, Montserrat can boost of a world class energy policy, strategy, implementation plan and even more important implementation of actual energy projects. It is now evident that the energy projects financed by grant funds from the European Union as a part of our sustainable energy program are being ruled out successfully.”

The 250kw utility scale project is anticipated to be able to generate electricity to approximately 250 average homes at a reduced fuel surcharge price.

Fire and MSS One win 2019 Easter Monday Road Relay

By staff Reporter Monday April 22nd Little Bay— It was a bitter disappointment for the 2018 male champions, JA Stars who failed to successfully defend their title, falling to third place this year at the annual Easter Monday Road Race.

New comer Statutory Force took the lead ahead of the Stars in second place, However it was Fire Department that out-matched them all, taking first place in the competition.

In the female race MSS 1 girls outpaced their female counterparts claiming victory in first place. MSS 2 finished the race in second, while Defence Force came in third position.

The race took the Salem to Little Bay route with participation from seven male teams and four female teams, which featured Antigua’s Hurricane Force male and female teams*. The top three teams were rewarded with trophies, medals and cash prizes. In addition MSS1 also won a cake, while both first place teams were awarded the “Road Runners Challenge Trophy” courtesy from Emerald Springs Water. All teams walked away with a participatory prizes.

Minister with responsibility for Sports the Honourable Delmaude Ryan thanked all the teams who participated in the competition and welcomed the increases participation of team.

Montserrat Secondary School

By Staff Reporter Wednesday April 17th, Little Bay— A cloud of excitement filled the air as Blue house not only defended their title, but had several athletes set new records in the process, at the 2019 MSS Sports Day at the Little Bay Playing Field.

The meet featured the four Montserrat Secondary School (MSS) Houses in a day of track events, a tug of war pull, house rally as well as several exhibition races. At the end of the event the house scores recorded were: • Lamacraft Blue House- 604 points • Carrington Green House – 565 points • Browne Red House- 488 points • Mckenzie Orange House- 461 points Blue house also won the Tug-of-war pull but lost to Orange house in the house rally settling for second place. Green house placed third followed by Red house.

In addition, Aiden Livan and Anisha Turner of Blue house were named Victor and Victrix Ludorum with the score of 26 and 45 points respectively.

One of the more defining accomplishments of the day was the setting of 11 new local track records. Dwight Lee, Kimari Kirnon, Adonyjah Daley, and Seigel Rodney all set new 4x100m Senior Boys record with a time of 48:43. Other new records include: • 100m Class I Girls
