Governor Pearce Calls for Celebration of Island's Success

Tu e s d a y M a r c h 1 s t , Brades—During his final press conference as Governor of Montserrat, His Excellency Andrew Pearce in his usual candid form, called for Montserrat to celebrate the island’s successes, while opening up about his views of challenges facing the island’s public service.

Governor Pearce said in response to questions from Reporters that, “I think we should incline ourselves to celebrate some of the real successes, particularly the handling of the Covid pandemic. There are very few countries and territories that has handled the pandemic as sure footedly, consistently and prudent as Montserrat. That’s a real feather in the cap of our public service. He added that Montserratians need to lift their eyes to that horizon and see all the things that have been delivered and look at things

Pearce recalled sentiments of frustrations of what was seen as a lack of critical infrastructure as he considers some of the accomplishments of the island to date.

He highlighted several accomplishments of the last four years which includes: the resurfaced airport runway; smart new airport control tower; fibre optic digital connection to the whole island; a contract signed for a port; a

contract signed for a hospital; the undertaking of critical repairs in the Montserrat Secondary School, a new hot mix machine on its way and commitment to build a new parliament and multipurpose building. He said that these accomplishments have not been done in the previous 23 years and is worthy of big celebration.

But despites these highs in his legacy, Governor Pearce also acknowledged that there are areas of discontent.

He said, “Montserrat public service is not paid as I would like it to be.” He also believes that the public service salary and allowance structure is too complex, it causes confusion.

The Governor also see Integrity and governance systems as being too complex. However, expressed content that the public service is able to provide some level of job security.

“Ultimately people here have jobs in the public service, they’re secure jobs and they’re in reasonable condition. You need to look to yourselves to make the public service work the way you want it,” said Pearce.

As he takes his leave from Montserrat Governor Pearce revealed recommendations he presented to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office that he believes will further the development of Montserrat.

One of the major proposals is that Montserrat needs a strategic simplification of the public service. “I have recommended that we get away from complains commission, integrity commission, public service commission and some of its functions and look to create a single, supra body for dealing with the highest level of concerns and complains about integrity that can be for any body and about anybody.

The Governor explained that for an island of this size, Montserrat needs simplicity, and allow the management of the public servants return to the public service. He proposed a more departmental approach to the handling of complains and disciplinary action and that complains on a more senior level be dealt with by one complaints body.

Another recommendation was the ability for the Montserrat Government to have savings recognised as a surplus for the next budget.

Recognising that there are elements that can impact on budget spending, particularly in the COVID-19 era. The Government admits that he had also fallen victim to this problem, calls for Britain to review their policy on this issue.

He said, “you can make savings in one year; you should have the benefit of carrying it over to the advantage of your budget and system the next year. To say that you have to ration, then buy things because if some gate comes down at the end of March and you have to start all over again is a huge waste of human resources and effort.” He added, “Whatever the British former Treasury rules…here in Montserrat there needs to be more flexibility around the way those budgets can be handle to the benefit of everybody.”

Approval and Commencement of Sand Mining Operations in the Upper Belham Valley Tuesday March 1 st , Brades— After a lengthy process of consultations and checks and balances sand miners can now formally operate in the Upper Belham Valley in Zone V. Minister, the Hon. Crenston Buffonge made the announcement on Tuesday in a press statement to the media.

The Minister who has responsibility for Agriculture, Lands, Housing and the E n v i r o n m e n t , s ay s t h e Government of Montserrat is pleased to announce that sand mining in the Upper Belham Valley in Zone V can now formally take place.

Highlighting the importance of the mining industry as the main export commodity from Montserrat, employing over 60 persons and source of foreign exchange.

He explained, “My Ministry has ensured that all the required steps are in place to guarantee transparency and that all protocols will allow for safe and sustainable operations of the sand mining industry.”

These actions included the following: • Mapping of the sand mining area for Zone V (Upper Belham).

• Marking and Signage of the Upper Limit for sand mining.

• Preparation and approval of Sand Protocols and Procedures to be followed by the Sand Miners.

• Refining the criteria for

Health and Safety Plans to be submitted by Miners.

• The development of Environmental Guidelines for the monitoring of sand mining in the newly approved mining sites.

• Preparation and approval of a Sand Mining License which Miners will use to apply for permission to mine on Crown Lands.

• Stakeholder meetings with the Sand Miners and Landowners.

• Site visit into the area with Sand Miners to provide guidance.

According to the Minister, with these protocols in place, sand miners are now applying for Licenses and planning permission from the Planning & Development Authority (PDA).

Additionally, all Sand Miners will also need to make formal applications for Permits from the DMCA to Enter Zone V. Hon. Buffonge said, “This exercise was a long one, but together we have achieved progress. I look forward to sustainable, and risk-free sand mining operations in Upper Belham. The Ministry will now turn its attention to putting the necessary protocols and procedures in place for sand mining operations in Fort Ghaut.

My attitude towards oral sex has changed Dear Pastor, I am 29 and I grew up in church. I was always active in Sunday school and I was the leader of the young people's group.

My minister taught us that there are things that good Christian men should not do and when we were ready to get married, we should find women who believe in conventional sex. He said that oral sex is of the devil and that Christian women don't expect their Christian husbands to ask them for oral sex. Some of the guys laughed at the pastor and called him a fool.

I had a girlfriend who came into the church and when we started to date, she asked me if I had ever had oral sex and I told her no. She asked me if I was saying that I would not do it and I told her that I would not.

At that time, she was going to nursing school. When our relationship got serious, she told me that she had oral sex many times. I was shocked. She said that she enjoyed it. I felt like using bleach in my mouth because we had started to kiss. I questioned her about whether the man did it to her and she said both of them did it to each other.

NOT SATISFIED I have read books on the matter and I was not satisfied with some of the comments. One minister told me that whatever my girl did in the past, I should forget them if I love her. When we went for counselling, my pastor raised the matter again and this time he said that the mouth was not made for that. This time my fiancee said that she believed that nobody should tell a couple what they should or should not do in the privacy of their bedroom. Our minister was shocked and he told her that she needed to repent.

We stopped attending that church. We never told anyone why. Today my wife and I are happily married. My attitude towards oral sex has changed. Sometimes when people ask me as a Christian what the Bible says about oral sex, I tell them that the Bible does not say anything about it. I am active in another church and I am a counsellor. My wife is also active in church. You are doing a good job, keep it up.

F.M. Dear F.M., You are correct by saying that the Bible does not say anything about oral sex. When I was in seminary and majoring in counselling, this subject was considered taboo. It was not even mentioned. I did most of my undergraduate courses in counselling. I enjoyed attending school on Saturdays, and one of the courses was called practical counselling. We talked about almost everything. I got my bachelor's degree and I was a happy man. The real test came when I had to counsel couples and someone asked me about oral sex. I gave a bad answer. But the questions never stopped coming.

I remember once when I was talking to Dr Hector Wynter on the matter. He laughed and encouraged me by saying he didn't even know what oral sex meant at that time. He was an educated man. Both of us laughed it off and left it. I was determined to have an open mind on this subject. By the time I was doing my postgrad studies, this came up repeatedly. I studied the writings of many Christian psychologists. Some of them condemn the practice, but many took the position that oral sex is normal and healthy, and said that if the couple wants to practise it, it is up to them.

I can say to you as a counsellor that there are some women who enjoy oral sex much more than coitus. The minister who spoke to your fiancee and you condemned her, he was surely wrong in doing so. But he has his convictions. They are not based on facts. They were based on limited knowledge.

Your wife was correct in discussing this matter with you before you got married. I am happy that both of you enjoy each other and that you are in a position to help couples. I wish you well. May both of you have long life and happiness together.

Mountain Aglow Junior Arrives on Montserrat for St. Patrick’s Festival Premiere Mountain Aglow project (mountainaglow.com). The exhibition will also include all the art, interviews, poems, and stories produced by the students during the project.

Mountain Aglow was a 3 years long project (20192021), led by Prof J. Barclay (University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK) and funded by a Research Grant from the UK Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF). The

project aimed to promote volcanic risk preparedness in Montserrat sharing the scientific knowledge gained during the Soufriere Hills volcano as well as the community’s experience about living with an active volcano.

In 2019-20, the “Mountain Aglow” exhibit and website (mountainaglow. com) were built in cooperation with local

institutional stakeholders (including MVO, DMCA, MAC, ZJB, Montserrat National Trust, etc) and the participation of community members and artists via eg interviews, and sharing of calipsos and poems about the eruption.

Throughout the last year of the project (2021), Grades 5&6 participated in activities such as lectures and discussions with scientists, politicians, artists, and gained firsthand experiences of the Soufriere Hills eruption during a guided trip to Plymouth. Using drawings, photos, poems, interviews produced by the children, the ‘Mountain Aglow Junior’ exhibit presents their unique perspective on life on a volcanic island and how the Soufriere Hills eruption impacted Montserrat. Each class designed one side of the

exhibit, covering themes such as volcano monitoring, ash or population displacements.

Students, teachers, family members and fellow Montserratians are all invited to visit the event and exhibit.

Members of the press are encouraged to attend to get the chance to talk with the students, teachers and visitors about the project and first impressions.

Both the Mountain Aglow Junior and the original Mountain Aglow exhibit are freely available for those in Montserrat to use. Please contact the MVO or DMCA if you would like to use them for a short event or even host them for an extended period.

MONTSERRAT: BEWARE! INCOME TAX FRAUD IS A CRIME

Montserratians Beware!!

When a resident Montserratian wilfully reports false income and or expenses on his Individual Income Tax Return, he is committing a fraud. He is committing a crime and could be imprisoned for two years.

The A Express started the year 2022 by begging for tax education; and this editorial will further attempt to arouse Montserratians to the importance of income tax education. The caption above is a bit loud; but very significant at this period in Montserrat’s state of affairs. The A Express believes that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that Montserratians are educated in the nation’s income tax laws. Because it is the Government that will prosecute them in the courts of law; and the same government will proclaim that ignorance of the laws is no excuse for the crime of fraud, especially.

The A Express will not consider itself to be an expert in tax matters; and we will be the first to admit that what we write is available to us from the internet. But as Income Tax is the essence of Nationhood, and recognizing the shoddiness of our tax awareness, last year the Editorial Board considered income tax education an area on which to focus in the year 2022. Thus we started the year with the cry for TAX EDUCATION. The key word in the determination of income tax fraud is income… income… and income! The key words for income tax

fraud are wilfully, not disclosing accurate and truthful information on the tax return.

So what is income for a resident of Montserrat? The Income Tax Act (The Act) of Montserrat states that income is gains or profits (money) from any employment, any trade, profession or vocation. The Act further implies that income means all the money you get in the period of declaration, whether it is gotten from Montserrat or elsewhere and that the income must be truthfully declared on the income tax return.

The Act tells which Montserrat resident will be assessed for income tax and how the tax will be computed. The Act further tells about the penalties for incorrect income tax returns, and for false statements and returns; it ensures that there is awareness of the power of the Attorney General to conduct proceedings against criminals who are involved in tax fraud.

In essence the Laws of Montserrat states that certain residents must declare truthfully their income for tax purposes, and that failure to report income truthfully can result in imprisonment. The Laws of the land are just and fair; like the sunshine, it shines on every roof top.

And in this ‘Internet of Things’ world, no one can hide his income (money) from a skillful income tax examiner; no one, no one can hide his worldwide banking transactions from the TAXMAN. And that tax man is linked ultimately to the Attorney General’s Chambers. best practices in tax laws. But in 1990 or thereabouts Montserrat’s politicians began to tinker without understanding; and from then we began to lose sight of the purpose of taxation. So much so, that budding political leaders have begun to confuse the residents about tax matters.

The A Express feels very justified in suggesting comprehensive tax education for Montserrat.

The A Express shall illustrate a very simple test to identify income tax fraud.

Again in the internet of things world, every resident of Montserrat banking records are available for scrutiny by the comptroller of Inland Revenue, through the resources of the Attorney generals Office.

The illustration: A resident retired Montserrat politician must truthfully declare all his income to the Inland revenue Department on an Individual Income Tax Return for the period stated on the return.

And that income must total all gains or profit derived from Montserrat or elsewhere in respect of pensions, employment, trade, profession or vocation. That retired politician must be aware that transactions into and out of his bank accounts anywhere in the world are available for perfect scrutiny; he must also be aware that these transactions must and will be reconciled with the income he declared on the tax return. Furthermore, he must be aware that any wilful false information will subject him and or his Income Tax Return Preparer to imprisonment.

A word to the wise is sufficient!

Educate the nation in Income Tax matters, now! Because, sooner rather than later, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth by, with, and from many Montserratians. Beware, Income tax fraud is a Crime…. So says the A Express.

Double Moves by MNI Speakers!!!

International Speech Contest the District Level Evaluation Contest. These are just two of the five traditional Toastmasters contests, with the other three being: Humorous, Tall Tales and Table Topics Contests.

Winners of Club Level contests advance to progressive Area, Division and District levels. For the Speech Contest, only, the District level winner advances to the Regional Quarter Final, Semi-final and ultimately the World Championship of Public Speaking.

Toastmasters, Daphne Furlonge, K. Vanessa White, Susan Hodge and Zelma White competed in the MNI Speakers’ inaugural Club Level International Speech Contest.

TM Daphne’s winning speech, Think, Believe, Start, referenced the mental barrier initially broken by Track and Field Runner, Roger Bannister, in 1964. Twentyfive-year-old, medical student, Bannister broke the ‘1 –mile in 4-minutes record’ – a feat that was swiftly emulated by 336 other persons in the ten years after. TM Daphne shared how she applied that ‘power of the mind’ in her personal triumph against Stage 4 cervical cancer in 2014; she had received a prognosis that her chances of survival were slim to nil! She lay strong, first hand claim in terms

of experience and affirmation of the ideologies that Earl Nightingale (‘our minds contain riches beyond our wildest dreams, …will return anything you plant in it.’), Buddha (‘thought dictates everything’), James Allen (‘mind is the master power that moulds and makes…environment is but his looking glass’) and Napoleon Hill (‘thoughts are things and powerful things at that’) strongly promoted, highlighting the deeper meanings of the ‘power of the mind’.

As We Forgive, captured the second place as TM K. Vanessa White shared how she conquered toxic feelings of anger, resentment and disgust, generated from quite an ‘inadvertent love triangle’.

She outlined how she found it possible and lightening to her mind and spirit to forgive. As a result of her personal triumph, she was able to encourage the virtual audience not to ‘marinate in hate’ or allow negative emotions to become one’s ‘constant companion’.

Instead, she urged persons to gain the wholesome benefits of forgiveness…although the virtue is ‘not easy’…but ‘heroic’ if attained. She reminded that, ‘To err is human; to forgive, divine.’

TM Susan Hodge, based in Anguilla, secured third place

with a speech entitled, The Hike, based on her decision to step way out of her comfort zone to the ‘mystical’ better place. The feeling was ushered in due to a series of losses, including deaths of persons close to her, from 2017- 2021.

This occurred alongside a need to pay closer attention to her personal health. With initial reluctance, she embarked upon a hiking adventure with her gym class, pledged not to repeat the activity due to the misadventures of the first hike, but was out pursuing a similar challenge 4 weeks after… Susan coached the audience to yield to Maya Angelou’s, “…if you’re always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be...”

TM Zelma White also presented a speech entitled Mumble and Crumble or Hope and Cope. The concepts of death and grief were the subject of her delivery. She spoke of her personal experience with death, her main tool for coping with grief, and provided highly recommended tips for coping with grief. She expressed her faith in God’s promises, drawn from scriptures such as, Psalm 46 Verse 1: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble’ and Matthew 5 Verse 4: Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted’. TM

Zelma encouraged grieving persons to sing Bible based songs and pray. Reflections and writing poems, journalling about progress through grief, exercising and personal bodily attention were her top tips for coping. She suggested joining a group and seeking professional bereavement therapy as additional aids.

Drawing on her own testimony of strong hope, which helped her to cope during grief, Zelma shared how she participated in this International Speech Contest, just 5 days after laying her beloved mom to rest. Her delivery closed with an open invitation to grieving persons, to reach out to her for other supporting tips.

In keeping with good Toastmaster delivery standards, the evaluators recommended that attention be paid to camera positioning, lighting, length of speech title, and enunciation.

What's On Your Mind Cancellation Controversy Friday March 4 th, Davy Hill—Is Montserrat’s most p o p u l a r ra d i o p ro g ra m ‘ What ’s on your mind’, cancelled? Despite no formal confirmation, public discourse seem to suggest this, following a radio announcement from the show’s host on Tuesday that the show will not be aired.

H o s t o f t h e s h o w, veteran radio broadcaster Bas i l C hambers, ca ught most by surprise, with an announcement just before the show’s scheduled start where he stated, “What’s on your mind will not be on the air today and the next few weeks. ZJB has been notified that the program needs to be reorganised.

Management is asking for your patience through this process, and we apologise for any inconvenience.”

Aired every Thursday and Friday, the program was a medium for public discourse where persons shared concerns about issue in the country that is affecting them and offer support and recommendations for a wide range of issues.

Despite there is no official confirmation that the program is cancelled, Leader of the Opposition Hon. Paul Lewis

hinted those instructions were handed to senior Public Officers to put an end to the program.

He commented, “If you are going to restructure anything you don’t need to withdraw it or remove it and deny the people the right to express whatever their views are. You are denying the community from saying whatever their views are and whatever hardship they are facing. Remember we are in our 70th year of Parliamentary democracy, the cornerstone of democracy; of freedom of expression and freedom of speech.”

He believes that “To have a decision like this and pulling a program…is a slap in the constitution that give us those same rights. Arts & Entertainment Reggae singer Denroy Morgan has died

Veteran Rastafarian reggae singer, Denroy Morgan, has died. His son, Mojo, confirmed to The Gleaner that the music industry giant passed away on Thursday. He was 76.

"Daddy passed last night surrounded by his wife, children, grand-children and great-grand-children," a grieving Mojo told The Gleaner.

A statement released by the Morgan family this morning noted: "It is out of our sincere love that we share

that our beloved father and patriarch, The Honourable Ras Denroy Morgan, has ascended. Daddy has been our light, our source of love and joy all our lives. Our family thank you in advance for your overwhelming love and support, and we ask for your continued prayers as we go through this process. We also ask that you respect our privacy during this time of healing."

Morgan is survived by his

widow Hyacinth Morgan, his 30 children, 104 grandchildren a n d 1 5 g re atgrandchildren.

The father of Grammy awardwinning sibling g ro u p M o rga n Heritage, as well as LMS, Denroy Morgan released his Billboard charttopping hit I'll Do Anything For You

and album of the same name in 1981. He signed a deal with RCA in 1984, and his bio states that Denroy Morgan was the first Jamaican recording artiste to be signed to a major record label.

Born in May Pen, Clarendon, Morgan migrated to the United States in 1965 at the age of 19. He was part of the formation of the Black Eagles, a New York City reggae band in the 1970s, before launching a prosperous solo career in the 1980s onwards.

Morgan subsequently raised a large family and made the parish of St Thomas his home

in Jamaica.

Last year, Morgan released his first book, From the Cross to the Throne, a novel that explores Rastafari, the religion, and Rasta 'livity'. He established his own Abrahamic Covenant Family Ministry, which goes live on Facebook every Saturday from his Hilltop Tabernacle in Port Morant, St Thomas.

An advocate for the legalisation of marijuana, Morgan spoke freely of his joy when it became legal in Jamaica and around the world.

In 2017, Denroy Morgan received the Key to the City of Brooklyn, New York.

National Minimum Wage Town Halls to Commence On March 2

Brades— A series of public consultations are ongoing to solicit public views and engage in discussion on the establishment of a National Minimum Wage in Montserrat The Department of Labour in the Ministry of Communication, Works, L a b o u r, a n d E n e r g y (MCWLE) hosted the first in a series of public discussions last Wednesday Mar 2nd in the furtherance of minimum wage regulation.

According to a Government press release, the Ministry recognises the importance of public consultation and is taking the opportunity to gather

views, evidence and data from all interested parties, prior to the Introduction of Minimum Wage Legislation in Montserrat. Interested parties are therefore invited to submit their views on the National Minimum Wage until 4pm on Thursday March 31, 2022.

The Town Hall sessions will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to meet face to face to discuss the establishment of a National Minimum Wage. The Town Halls will take place at the following locations during the consultation period (the consultation ends on Thursday March 31, 2022): At present, Montserrat

does not have a National Minimum Wage, so there is no legislation in place to protect workers against unduly low pay.

Labour Commissioner, Mr. Rudolph Christopher, said,“There are many people here in Montserrat who work for very low wages, in fact as low as $5.00 per hour.

They work almost every day and have very little time off. In addition, the cost of basic food continues to rise with every shipment that is imported.”

Mr. Christopher further noted that a minimum Wage will allow such persons to live a better life.

“In the end it will be the

difference between affording electricity or not, it is the difference between sending a child to school with breakfast or not, and in the end it is the difference between living a decent life or not. That is why we have been working with the International Labour Organisation (ILO), who has worked with over 50 countries around the world and of course taking into account our own unique circumstances into consideration, have used the tripeptide principle in the recommendation of a Minimum Wage for Montserrat,” explained the Labour Commissioner.

COVID-19 Outbreak Over. Ministry of Health Remains Vigilant

Brades, The Ministry of Health and Social Services has declared that the most recent outbreak of COVID-19 is over.

The outbreak began on 31, December 2021 and peaked with 67 confirmed infections, the last of which occurred on 28, January 2022. Today marks 31 days since the last locally transmitted infection.

Ministry of health officials explained that today marks a milestone where after actively testing for the past

31 days and allowing for two full incubation periods of the virus to expire; the ministry can confidently say there are no locally transmitted active cases of COVID 19.

Officials also expressed gratitude to residents, indicating that this milestone could not have been achieved without commitment to following the public health protocols; including reporting symptoms and coming forward for testing.

Devine was still padded up as she watched her hard work to keep New Zealand in the match unravel.

“I think full credit has to go to the West Indies,” Devine said. “I think the way Haley Matthews batted was brilliant.

“They set the game up well but I thought we were right in it to the last over and you don’t get much more clutch than a bowler coming in to bowl the 50th over and do what Dottin did.”

Matthews usually is at home in No. 5 in the West Indies’ order where her hardhitting has brought her two previous centuries in One-Day Internationals outside World

Cups. She was promoted at late notice when regular opener Rashada Williams was sidelined with concussion.

With Dottin on Friday, Matthews led an early assault on the New Zealand bowlers which rocked the confidence of the home team and started West Indies’ innings at a racing pace. West Indies’ first nine scoring shots were boundaries.

Matthews followed up her century with 2-41 from 10 overs in the New Zealand innings.

“Obviously a team like New Zealand playing at home, for us to come out there playing against the crowd and show that fight that we just showed is really, really memorable,” Matthews said.

West Indies Women shock New Zealand in thrilling World Cup opener Hayley Matthews made 119 runs in 128 balls to anchor the West Indies’ innings.

MOUNT MAUNGANUI, New Zealand (AP) — Parttime bowler Deandra Dottin delivered a fearless final over in which three wickets fell to give West Indies a three-run win over host New Zealand on Friday in the opening match of the Women’s Cricket World Cup. New Zealand came to the last over on 254 for seven, chasing West Indies’ 259 for nine and appearing poised to pull off the highest winning run chase in the history of the women’s world tournament, but was dismissed for 256 with a ball left.

Dottin, an opening batter, hadn’t bowled in the match until that point. In fact she

hadn’t bowled in the West Indies’ last nine One-Day Internationals (ODIs) or taken a wicket for the last three years.

But she stepped up to take two for two in the last over.

Hayley Matthews, sent into an unfamiliar role as Dottin’s opening partner and battling a hamstring strain, made 119 runs in 128 balls as she anchored the West Indies’ innings after New Zealand won the toss and chose to field.

In reply, New Zealand captain Sophie Devine made 108 in 127 — her sixth ODI century and second in a World Cup match — to allow New Zealand to take the match deep, though they always lagged behind the West Indies’

run rate.

Devine was out, like Matthews, in the 45th over; New Zealand were 215 for seven and still 45 runs from victory. Katey Martin made 44 and Jess Kerr 25 in a 40-run stand for the eighth wicket which tipped the match back in New Zealand’s favour.

Martin hit fours from the last two balls of the 49th over to send New Zealand into the last over needing six runs from six balls in what seemed an equation favourable to the home side. With the West Indies a bowler short after an injury to Shamilia Connell, Dottin stepped up to take the ball.

A single came from the

first ball but Martin fell lbw to the next delivery, leaving New Zealand needing five from four balls with two wickets in had.

Hannah Rowe came to the crease and snatched a quick single leaving New Zealand needing four runs from three balls.

Kerr fell to the next ball, caught by Chinelle Henry, to leave New Zealand four runs from victory with two balls left and the last batter, 17-year-old Fran Jonas, at the crease.
