FAM visit culminates

Premier Donaldson Romeo announces the end to the week-long 2019/2020 recurring budget negotiation with (DFID) team, during a press conference which also culminated the end of the financial aid mission visit. Addressing the press, the Premier reiterated an optimistic tone from his opening statement,“I said in my opening remarks that I am looking forward to a very fruitful and impactful negotiation and certainly a very impactful discussion is challenging as far as being fruitful, we know that there is no conclusion at the end of the week, negotiations continue…there is no final decisions on matters until much later in the coming weeks.” “We had a variety of discussions which brought us to a clearer idea of where we’re standing and understanding each other, especially in those areas we had challenges in, with regards to maintenance… health care. Not all the things will be resolved in this one mission, but we hope that much will be resolved,” he said. Department for International Development (DFID) Economic Advisor Laurin Janes, in his remarks at the conference, expressed satisfaction on the progress of government spending. He remarked, “We had talked

Hon Financial Secretary Colin Owen, Hon. Premier Donaldson Romeo and Mr. Laurin Janes quite a bit about how the current budget is doing, and I think we are coming away seeing how the current budget is becoming,” The sessions focused on spending on the 2019/2020 draft budget and new spend and savings, economic growth Strategy. The discussions also examined ferry and air access future plans as well as the status of the access strategy, issues

and maintenance strategy. The discussion was led by the Honourable Donaldson Romeo and Government Ministers, the Financial Secretary and other senior government officials. The DFID team also included Resident Representative Moira Marshal, Health Advisor Karen Zamboni, Senior Social Development Advisor Kirsty Mason, Governance Advisor Richard

Jones and Infrastructure Advisor Ahmed. Representatives from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the FCO’s Senior Advisor/Economics and Financial Services were also present during the negotiation. Nearing the end of the present financial year, the Government has spent approximately 125.9 million of its current 167.8 million dollars budget.

Solar Project Begins Installation

Brades Montserrat, January 16, 2019- Some 245 homes can soon benefit from the installation of a 250 Kilowatts (KW) solar panel system, says “Salt Energy” Contractor David Kaul. The statement was made marking the start of installation in phase one of the 1megawatt (MW) Solar photovoltaic (PV) project, at a press conference at the Ministry of Communication, Works, Energy and Labour (MCWEL) headquarters in Brades. In a statement to the press, Kaul explained that power will be distributed from three (3) roofs at the Montserrat Utility Limited (MUL) site, which includes the Montobacco building, Public Works Department (PWD) work shop and MUL power station. He said, “All of that power is being fed directly to the 11kb distribution network so it is instantaneously going to be available for the homes in Montserrat to use and we have estimated that the entire output of this phase

Last year “Salt Energy”, a Florida-based Company was awarded the EC $1.89 million dollar contract for the 250 KW installation of the 1 MW solar PV and battery storage project. This forms part of a total project budget of EC$3,000,000 under the European Development Fund (EDF) 10 programme.

Your weekly Horosc opes AQUARIUS (Jan. 21 - Feb. 19) Intensive lunar alignments with the very foundations of your chart indicate that, if everything is going according to plan, domestic affairs will now be causing fewer problems than in the past. However, the prospect of a major financial change reinforces your need to keep a clear and cool head at all times. PISCES (Feb. 20 - Mar 20) The stars are smiling on you. A certain amount of movement is taking place in upper reaches of your horoscope, which strongly suggests that you may be called away from your normal pastures, and new vistas could open up. You will almost certainly be able to charm others with your poetic words. ARIES (Mar 21 - Apr. 20) There may have been a certain amount of confusion surrounding domestic relationships, but with that magnetic planet Mars so energetic and active this should now begin to clear up. If you handle emotional affairs with your usual confidence, you’ll be able to take a more enlightened approach with partners. TAURUS (Apr. 21 - May 21) Enthusiasm and spontaneity are your major strengths. For that simple truth you can thank optimistic, vivacious Venus, or you can take pride in your own ability to think positively. Do, though, carry on with all those little essentials that get you through your daily routine. GEMINI (May 22 - June 21Spend as much time as you need considering the practical consequences of your actions. Also, please realise that what you believe to be true may be as important in shaping your actions as what actually is true. The big question, is will others agree with you? In fact, it might work out rather nicely if they don’t! CANCER (June 22 - July 23)This is no time to sit at home wondering what to do next. Mars, the most energetic planet by far, advises you to get out and actively seek opportunities. You might even agree to take part in pursuits which you once thought were way beyond your capabilities. News which was mislaid finally arrives. LEO (July 24 - Aug. 23) The current jovial planetary picture brings hope, optimism and the will to create a better future. Life gets better as the week progresses, so make full use of offers and opportunities that come your way. Professional passions should be exercised to the full, by the way, for enthusiasm will always impress employers. VIRGO (Aug. 24 - Sept. 23) Consider travel plans, especially if foreign parts are beckoning. The point is that you crave change - and somewhere, somehow, your life needs added interest from a dose of something utterly different. First of all, though, family pressures must be settled, as you can’t leave any emotional loose ends lying around. LIBRA (Sept. 24 - Oct. 23) The Moon is aligned with your business zones so, in spite of justified caution, your financial prospects should improve. You’ll be able to think clearly for a change, but must understand that the facts make no sense when taken out of context. Make an outstanding effort to see the world through other people’s eyes. SCORPIO (Oct. 24 - Nov. 22) The Moon is moving this way and that, setting up a series of emotional challenges, giving partners the advantage. There might not be too much point in forcing issues, if there doesn’t seem to be any way that you can win. Co-operation is the key, and accept what other people have to offer. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 23 - Dec. 22) You’re on a twelve-year cycle, so the main word of advice is to work hard and not to expect instant results. From the seeds you sow now, great things should result in three, six and even twelve months’ time. You might have to ask a partner to delay certain domestic plans, at least just for now, until you have checked the details. CAPRICORN (Dec. 23 - Jan. 20) The tide has turned and everything is now moving your way. This happy fact means that, strange as it may seem, even apparent difficulties and obstacles are conspiring to create welcome results: sometimes good fortune comes about in a curious guise! Make very sure that others share any benefits.

Bullying prevention: 5 tips to encourage parent-child conversation

(BPT) - If you’re a parent, you bring your kids to their annual checkups, get their teeth cleaned twice a year and help them eat well and get enough sleep. You do this to keep them physically healthy, but what about their mental health? For parents, it can sometimes seem difficult to monitor and gauge a child’s emotional well-being, which is affected by a number of things that parents and children may not discuss. Having conversations around these issues is the best way to keep them in check. One issue that is of particular concern is bullying. Bullying is a big problem today - fueled even more in the age of the internet. Often, troubles with classmates are hidden from parents’ view, whether they take place in the classroom, on the bus or online. Nearly half (47 percent) of parents confess that one of their greatest fears is that their child will be bullied, according to a survey by Planet Fitness. And while nearly one-quarter (24 percent) of parents admit their child has been the victim of bullying, only 8 percent have children that talk to them regularly about it. This is why it’s important for parents to stay in tune to their children’s behaviors and talk to them openly. If you notice your child acting differently, it may be because something is happening to them at school or a different setting. You can use your observations as an opportunity to start an important conversation about what’s going on. “Be careful with how you perceive your child’s behavior, as the way they are

feeling on the inside might not be the emotion they show on the outside,” says Marc Brackett, PhD, director of Yale’s Center for Emotional Intelligence and lead developer of RULER, a school-based approach to teaching social emotional learning in classrooms that has been adopted by hundreds of schools and districts across the country, as well as adapted for after-school settings such as Boys & Girls Clubs. “If your child is acting out of the ordinary, for example, it’s best to speak with them about their day to help you identify the root cause of their actions.” Tips for meaningful conversation with your child Fostering regular, meaningful conversation with your child helps build trust so that you can hear all about their experiences, both the good and the bad, and can weigh in with your loving support. Share common experiences: To show empathy and help your child to understand they aren’t alone, Brackett suggests that if you have ever experienced something similar to what your child is going through, such as if you were ever bullied, share that experience with your child. When you relate your experiences to your child’s situation, it will encourage them to share what happened and how he or she feels about it. Brainstorm solutions: Ask your child what they want to do and how you can help, suggests Brackett. Come up with more than one option to deal with the situation. It’s important not to dictate, but suggest solutions and encourage them to come up with their own ways of dealing with the situation. Your child needs to feel like a part of the action plan for it to work. Utilizing proper tools will help you, your child and even your child’s school develop these action plans. PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center in partnership with Planet Fitness’ Judgement Free Generation, a philanthropic initiative that aims to prevent bullying and spark a prokindness movement, has created Bullying Prevention 101, a free-to-download resource designed to help elementary, middle and high schools build environments defined by kindness, acceptance and inclusion (by way of teachers, counselors and other educators). Experts from PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center also suggest parents: Listen to kids without judgement: Let kids do the talking and follow their lead. Discuss their experiences with an open mind and open heart. Then discuss their ideas on how they want to handle the situation and let them know that you’re there for them and will help no matter what. Be aware of being bullied and being the bully: Sometimes if a child is being bullied, they are more likely to replicate that behavior elsewhere. First, recognize that children bully for many reasons. Next, help them understand how that behavior affects others and encourage positive solutions. Encourage kindness: Help your child understand the importance of showing support and being kind to everyone, especially others who might be victims of bullying. Even if the crowd goes one way, it’s always important to stand up for what’s right. For more ideas about fostering positive and productive conversations with young people about bullying, as well as to access Bullying Prevention 101 resources, visit https://www. pacer.org/planetfitness.

Region urged to prepare for possibility of severe outbreak of Dengue Fever

Antigua News Room The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) has called on health officials across the region to prepare for the possibility of a severe outbreak of the mosquito borne Dengue Fever. In a statement Thursday, CARPHA said the last major regional outbreak of Dengue occurred in 2009. “Since then, the Region has experienced two large outbreaks of mosquito-borne diseases, Chikungunya in 2014 and Zika in 2016, which are unlikely to reoccur soon.” The regional agency also said that “Disease modeling predicts that another regional outbreak of Dengue may occur in the near future,” adding that last year, Latin America showed an increase in the number of Dengue cases. CARPHA has also pointed to the recent outbreak of Dengue in Jamaica, saying that it has elevat-

ed the level of concern in other Caribbean islands. “The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) is therefore advising countries to implement enhanced measures to reduce mosquito breeding and prevent the spread of disease.” Dengue is a flu-like illness that affects infants, young children and adults. Symptoms typically begin four to ten days after infection, and include a high fe-

ver, headache, vomiting, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin rash. This illness can evolve to severe dengue, characterized by potentially deadly complications, such as internal hemorrhaging, intense and continuous abdominal pain or tenderness and persistent vomiting. In some cases, Dengue may be severe and cause death. Dengue and other mosquitoborne diseases threaten health,

tourism, social and economic development, and a collaborative effort is required to reduce the spread of disease. Dengue remains a global health problem and like Zika and Chikungunya, there is no specific treatment for the disease. The Aedes aegypti mosquito vector, which spreads Dengue, is present in all Caribbean territories. The measures used for controlling the spread of Dengue are the same as those for Zika and Chikungunya as these diseases are also transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. With the arrival of the rainy season within a few months, mosquito control and awareness activities need to be intensified. Caribbean Ministries of Health are advised to – Increase health promotion messages to prevent mosquitos biting and breeding; combine efforts with communities to eliminate mosquito breeding sites; intensify vector surveillance and control and disseminate appropriate clinical care and treatment guidelines The agency says that the most effective way to avoid becoming ill from viruses spread by mosquitoes is to prevent mosquito bites. Research carried out by CARPHA and the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/ WHO) show that drums and tyres are the main mosquito breeding sources in our countries. “We all need to clean up our surroundings. The two most important things to manage mosquito populations in our Caribbean countries are to manage water storage drums and tanks, and properly dispose of used vehicle tyres to prevent mosquitos breeding,” states Dr C. James Hospedales, Executive Director of CARPHA.

The Monkey and The Crocodile

Once upon a time, a clever monkey lived in a tree that bore juicy, red rose apples. He was very happy. One fine day, a crocodile swam up to that tree and told the monkey that he had traveled a long distance and was in search of food as he was very hungry. The kind monkey offered him a few rose apples. The crocodile enjoyed them very much and asked the monkey whether he could come again for some more fruit. The generous monkey happily agreed. The crocodile returned the next day. And the next. And the next one after that. Soon the two became very good friends. They discussed their lives, their friends and family, like all friends do. The crocodile told the monkey that he had a wife and that they lived on the other side of the river. So the kind monkey offered him some extra rose apples to take home to his wife. The crocodile’s wife loved the rose apples and made her husband promise to get her some every day. Meanwhile, the friendship between the monkey and the crocodile deepened as they spent more and more time together. The crocodile’s wife started getting jealous. She wanted to put an end to this friendship. So she pretended that she could not believe that her husband could be friends with a monkey. Her husband tried to convince her that he and the monkey shared a true

friendship. The crocodile’s wife thought to herself that if the monkey lived on a diet of rose monkeys, his flesh would be very sweet. So she asked the crocodile to invite the monkey to their house. The crocodile was not happy about this. He tried to make the excuse that it would be difficult to get the monkey across the river. But his wife was determined to eat the monkey’s flesh. So she thought of a plan. One day, she pretended to be very ill and told the crocodile that the doctor said that she would only recover if she ate a monkey’s heart. If her husband wanted to save her life, he must bring her his friend’s heart. The crocodile was aghast. He was in a dilemma. On the one hand, he loved his friend. On the other, he could not possibly let his wife die. The crocodile’s wife threatened him saying that if he did not get her the monkey’s heart, she would surely die. So the crocodile went to the rose apple tree and invited the monkey to come home to meet his wife. He told the monkey that he could ride across the river on the crocodile’s back. The monkey happily agreed. As they reached the middle of the river, the crocodile began to sink. The frightened monkey asked him why he was doing that. The crocodile explained that he would have to kill the monkey to save his wife’s life.

The clever monkey told him that he would gladly give up his heart to save the life of the crocodile’s wife, but he had left his heart behind in the rose apple tree. He asked the crocodile to make haste and turn back so that the monkey could go get his heart from the apple tree. The silly crocodile quickly

At a moderate ceremony, the initiative received strong support from His Excellency the Governor Andrew Pearce, along with the Honourable Premier Donaldson Romeo and the Financial Secretary Mr. Colin Owen, when they collectively unveiled the instruments. The three officials also give an open invitation to persons interested in the initiative to join the band. Acting Commanding Officer of the RMDF Peter W.A. White, in his remarks on behalf of the Commanding Officer, Major Alvin Ryan, stated that the initiative was collaboratively funded. He informed that contributions came from the Financial Secretary and the

Davy Hill Community Centre, funded by the Governor’s Office. He said, “The idea is to bring together members of the Montserrat Cadet Corps, Royal Montserrat Police Force and the community at large, to form the National Band. The plan is not only to play for marches, but concerts and other events.” According to the Acting Commander, the group intends to attract young people, not Mr. McCloyd and Mr. Francis demonstrate with an instrument

only within the Davy Hill community, but the island at large. Also present at the event were three prominent volunteer music teachers, Mr. Herman ‘Cupid’ Francis, Mr. McCloyd White and Mr. Brian Hosefros, all expressing their excitement at the prospects of the initiative for Montserrat. Mr. McCloyd, speaking to those present, briefly recapped his roots and connections to a similar band in his younger years, “…This is a second initiative …we had about 30 members strong in the Defense Force Band at that time.” The music teacher expressed a positive outlook for the future of the band and program. He said, “I’m feeling really excited and hope good things will come of it.” In a Press Release, the RMDF elaborated on the objectives of the drive, “This initiative is to provide an avenue for persons to learn to play a musical instrument as well as

allow for all ceremonial parades to once again have local musical accompaniment.” According to the release, “It is envisioned that persons being members of the band would gain skills and knowledge in the area of music to allow them to become well rounded. Similarly they would be able to use these new skills or enhanced skills develop themselves professional within the industry. This is the first step to restart the RMDF marching band which was a staple of all ceremonial functions on Montserrat which required musical accompaniment.” Musical instruments which persons can learn to play includes the following: Trumpets, Trombones, Alto Saxophones, Tenor Saxophones, Clarinet, Baritone Horn, Alto Horn, Cornets, Cymbals, Bass Drums, Side Drums, Tenor Drums and Quad Drums.

HOT NEEDLE AND BURNING THREAD

The dream of a lifetime was birthed in the humble corners of the sewing room of our home in Cork Hill. There was many a day where my every waking moment was a Kaleidoscope of dramatically creating elaborate gowns in my minds eye. Casting my mind back now many of these gowns were often mimicking the beautiful ones I saw hanging around our house waiting for their owners to collect. Growing up I watched my mother (Armonel Cabey aka amo) strike patterns on fabric, resulting in beautiful garments worn boastfully by Montserratians far and wide. I was not allowed to touch the sewing machines or the equipment. This sparked the creative bug within to mimic what I saw, transcending into creating outfits for my dolls and later on myself. Under the guise of illness, I would stay home from church with the sole intent of using her sewing machine in secret. My grandmother would gift me with fabric further building on the creative she obviously saw in me. Thinking back now I wonder if my mother saw more than a spark or guessed I was up to something when she went into her sewing room on Monday mornings. Fast forward to my adult years where I’ve been known to come in from full day at work and sew a complete outfit to go out the same night. This my mother referred to as Hot Needle and Burning Thread. I wish she was here to see my dreams becoming a reality as she was my inspiration. My academic years started in my beautiful home country of Montserrat. After completing my Secondary School education at MSS, I migrated to London where I enrolled in the Fashion and Clothing Course at Waltham Forest College, completing Levels 1&2 before enrolling on the BTEC Fashion Design

‘No solutions’ to Irish backstop in May’s Brexit call with cabinet Theresa May. Photograph Hannah McKay/Reuters

The Guardian

Theresa May is expected to reject calls to forge a cross-party consensus on Brexit when she lays out her plan B to parliament on Monday, choosing instead to back new diplomatic efforts in Brussels to renegotiate the Irish backstop. The prime minister held a conference call with her bitterly divided cabinet from the country retreat of Chequers on Sunday evening. Cabinet sources said the consensus on the 90-minute call was to renew efforts to find acceptable changes to the backstop arrangement but that the conversation was light on specifics. One said there were “no actual solutions” proposed during the call. “It is difficult to know – as ever – what she will do,” another said. “But the broad agreement is on the need to bring DUP and Tory rebels on board.” Despite her claim in the wake of last week’s significant defeat in parliament that she would speak to “senior parliamentarians” from all parties to seek a compromise, government sources insisted her overriding priority was to prevent a historic split in the Tory party. Several senior Conservative MPs have suggested they could form a breakaway party if May opted to support a customs union – one of Labour’s central demands, which is also backed by Tory supporters of a Norway-style soft Brexit. Whitehall sources said the prime minister’s chief of staff, Gavin Barwell, had counselled her to consider a customs union after last week’s catastrophic defeat, which saw her deal rejected by an overwhelming majority of 230 votes.

But when the government tables a formal statement on Monday, setting out its next steps, it is instead expected to focus on seeking changes to the Irish backstop in order to win over Jacob Rees-Mogg’s European Research Group and the DUP. The prime minister could then travel to Brussels as early as Monday evening – though Downing Street denied it would be that soon. May’s move comes as fresh polling evidence suggests the public are sanguine about the possibility of a no-deal Brexit. A poll by ICM conducted after last week’s government defeat and seen by the Guardian asked voters what should happen next. The most popular option, backed by 28% of voters, was a no-deal Brexit. Demonstrating the divide in public opinion, the next most popular option, supported by 24% of the public, is to start the process of holding a second referendum. In the representative online poll of 2,046 adults between 16–18 January, just 8% thought May should press ahead with trying to win support for her deal in parliament, while 11% thought she should call a general election. Earlier on Sunday, Liam Fox said it was “the overwhelming view” among party colleagues that the prime minister’s deal was salvageable if she could get change on the backstop. “That seems to me to be the area that we’re coalescing around,” the international trade secretary said. “A lot of my colleagues in the House of Commons have said that if we make changes on

the backstop we’d be willing to vote for the agreement.” However, Downing Street and Irish government sources poured cold water on reports that the government was considering the possibility of a joint UK-Irish treaty that would replace the backstop. The plan is favoured by some hard Brexiters, including the former cabinet minister Owen Paterson, and was given some weight by Fox who said he favoured a “different mechanism” to prevent a hard border. “Of course both Ireland and the United Kingdom have both said that we don’t want to see a hard border and the Irish prime minister has said in the event of no deal, he wouldn’t want to see a hard border,” Fox said. “Now given that we’re in that same place that should be the area that we need to look to find some compromise.” However, a Downing Street source said the plan was “not one we recognise”. Irish sources said the government would reject any approach from May for a bilateral side deal, calling the idea a “non-starter” and saying the EU was very clear the withdrawal agreement could not be reopened unless May changed her red lines. The Irish foreign minister, Simon Coveney, said: “I can assure you that the Irish government’s commitment to the entire withdrawal agreement is absolute, including the backstop to ensure, no matter what, an open border between Ireland and Northern Ireland, and the Good Friday agreement, are protected.” “The solidarity in the EU is complete there, as Donald Tusk and JeanClaude Juncker made clear: they are waiting to see what Theresa May’s plan B is,” an Irish government source added. “From our perspective, a bilateral deal is just not a credible proposal.” Heiko Maas, the German foreign minister, was sceptical on Sunday that British attempts to push Dublin to accept changes to the backstop would bear fruit for the UK. Asked by the German ZDF television about reports of talks between Britain and the Irish government, Maas said the UK’s goals were “a mystery”. He said: “We have to negotiate and also agree a withdrawal agreement

with Britain. It is a bit of a mystery to me what the British government wants to negotiate with Dublin or what sort of an additional agreement it should be. It won’t have any effect on what was agreed with the [European] commission. “All 27 members must agree. In the last few days there have been relatively clear statements that there are many who are not ready to and there are some that are open to it. We have to wait to see what the Britons suggest.” No 10 has repeatedly denied that it is preparing for a general election to break the deadlock, but the Conservative MP Huw Merriman became the first Tory to admit the possibility was likely on Sunday. “When parliament can’t pass laws, not just on Brexit but on other matters, and the government cannot govern through that, then that’s normally when you have a general election,” he told the BBC. Tory chair Brandon Lewis emailed all Conservative members on Sunday asking for donations with the subject line “Corbyn wants an election,” though he later insisted the party was preparing for local elections in May. Former Labour prime minister Gordon Brown has stepped up his calls for article 50 to be extended for a year, so that a series of citizens’ assemblies could be held to determine what should happen next. “Parliament must inflict a second defeat on the government – by voting next Tuesday to extend article 50 for a year. Not as a delaying tactic but for a purpose: to enable a process of nationwide consultation and reflection,” he wrote in the Guardian. “Key to this would be a series of citizens’ assemblies whose thinking would then lead to constructive reconsideration by parliament of our relations with Europe, including the options of a renegotiation followed by a referendum. The direct engagement of the British people is now essential to address the triple challenge of a government defying the sovereignty of parliament, an evermore divided country, and mounting distrust between parliament and people,” he wrote.

St. Kitts - PM defends decision not to make IMF report public

Antigua News Room Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris Wednesday said his administration is using the option available to it on whether or not to make public the International Monetary Fund (IMF) report on the 2017 Article IV Consultation with St. Kitts and Nevis. “We are not the only country in the last five years who have exercised that option. The IMF reports in particular indicate where there are special circumstances they have obliged in the nonpublication in the non-publication of reports for the very reasons the financial secretary says,” Harris told a news conference. He said the Washington-based financial institution is “not doing an audit, the IMF is doing surveillance, the IMF is providing advice and in some of those areas of advice we have to take time to study them and we have therefore exercised that prerogative with respect to St. Kitts-Nevis”. Earlier, the island’s financial secretary, Hilary Hazel, said that the government continues with its consultation with the IMF “as with any other country that is a member of that body. “It is also important for us to note that the IMF is not the only credible source of information on the economic performance of the Federation of St. Kitts-Nevis. In fact the economic data that is gathered and distributed by the government…is shared with all our relevant economic partners,” she said including the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). The financial secretary said therefore it was important to put things into “proper perspective” adding “The IMF is not an auditor of the government”. She told reporters that the director of audit is the only authority “to audit the books of the government. “The IMF however continues to be an important partner in respect of the economic surveillance, policy advice to the government and also the provision of technical Gazelle walking machine assistance to the countries that hold membership to it. Contact 664-496-7404 ‘Government has the option to publish or not to publish. It Happy New Year’s from has exercised it. At this point in the 1st Montserrat Girls’ time as I told you we continue to have consultations with that Brigade Company body,” she said in a response to why the report of the IMF Happy New Year’s from delegation that ended its visit the 1st Montserrat Boys’ here since June last year, was Brigade Company not being made public.

Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris at news conference (CMC Photo) The main opposition St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) has called on the government to make public the report, contending that the Harris administration was blocking its publication because of the present situation of the economy. Last November, Opposition Leader, Dr. Denzil Douglas said the country needed to be aware of the issues raised by the Washington-based financial institution and that he has written to the IMF on the matter. “I want to also make reference to our position again on the matter of the International Monetary Fund report which the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis has refused to make public for the benefit of our members of our parliament, for the benefit of our citizens of our country, benefit of the investors and developers here in St Kitts and Nevis. “I believe there is more in the mortar than the pestle and as a result of that I would want to the inform the general public that I have written off to the International Monetary Fund on this particular matter and you will hear more about it at a later tim,” Douglas said then. But during the news conference. Prime Minister Harris rubbished the idea of suppressing the report saying that his administration was using the same senior public servants, including Mrs Hazel, who were instrumental in preparing financial reports during the period of the last administration. ”She is best placed, she is the financial secretary that we met when we came to office. We have had every reason to repose our confidence in her capacity and that of her team,” he said, adding “if there are those in the public space and in particular the public market place who have a problem with the quality of their work, I wish they will have the courage to say what is the problem they have with their work”.
