SHOPPING AND DINING IN LOWER MANHATTAN

Welcome to Lower Manhattan, where you’ll find something suited to every taste! Today, there are more than 1,100 small businesses in our district. Some are welcome new additions to the neighborhood, including Mars Nails and Sift Cakes and Cookies. Others, like Barclay Rex and Wall Street Wine Merchants, are legacy enterprises that have been serving our community for 25 years or more. Not only is the Downtown Alliance celebrating 30 years supporting the neighborhood, but dozens of local restaurants including Da Claudio, the Full Shilling and Pearl Diner have also had recent milestone anniversaries. From trying new spots like Goku Kitchen, Otani and All’Antico Vinaio, to rediscovering local favorites like Brooklyn Chop House and El Vez, there’s never been a better time to enjoy a meal downtown. It’s also a great time to expand your wardrobe and your horizons. Printemps, the world-famous Parisian luxury retailer, has brought a new, experientially focused concept to One Wall Street, mixing shopping, dining and beauty. Plus, chef Gregory Gourdet’s fine-dining restaurant, Maison Passerelle, on the ground level, features exquisite flavors to match the unique shopping experience.

There’s also plenty of fun and games to be had. You’ll soon be able to socialize with your most competitive friends at Barcade, as well as Lawn Club, Five Iron Golf or Baseball Pill. Or you can play a game at Socceroof or Court 16 to really get your steps in.

What’s amazing is that, despite its centuries of history, the neighborhood still has so much in its future. Everyone’s favorite waterfront concert venue, Pier 17 at the Seaport, will soon debut an enclosed glass structure for entertainment all year long. And just when you thought there couldn’t possibly be more to do and see, it was announced that the circus is coming to town. That’s right: The former Bank of New York at 48 Wall St. will soon house nightly acrobatic performances. For all the exciting tastes and talents we’ve gained, we also tragically lost a shining star last year. Luckily, the legacy of our friend, chef James Kent, lives on with Kent Hospitality Group’s SAGA, Crown Shy and Overstory — all in the neighborhood.

We hope this year’s guide helps you plan your meals, errands and life downtown, but for the most up-to-date events, openings and neighborhood news, you can always visit our website, downtownny.com, for regular updates. This is your neighborhood and we want to hear from you. Love what you’re seeing on the street? Is there a business you wish we had in the district? Please let us know by filling out our web form at downtownny.com/ about-us/contact.

Sincerely,

We apologize for any errors or omissions. All information is subject to change.

ABOUT US

Founded in 1995, the Alliance for Downtown New York is the business improvement district for Lower Manhattan south of Chambers Street. Our mission is to provide service, advocacy, research and information to advance Lower Manhattan as a global model of a 21st-century central business district for businesses, residents and visitors. We do this by supporting commercial tenancy; promoting and sustaining the tourism, technology and retail sectors; and acting as Lower Manhattanʼs authoritative research and information source. Our operations team strives to make the neighborhood safe, clean and welcoming. We provide free public transportation, offer homeless outreach, maintain public spaces, empty hundreds of garbage and recycling receptacles daily, clear snow off of sidewalks, remove graffiti and repair streetscape amenities. Our public safety officers work with the NYPD to keep crime rates among the lowest in the city. The Alliance is dedicated to making Lower Manhattan a thriving and enjoyable place for all.
