With the first 2 months of the year done and dusted, one suddenly realises that you have so many things to do in such a short span of time
The ALLES Team has been out and about, engaging with teachers at our first events at the end of January and during February
The focus of this year is to advocate and inform all stakeholders in education about the benefit and valuable tool the School Travel and Tourism industry is in the hand of a teacher. With most of the service providers and destinations, providing various curriculum-aligned programs, it opens up great possibilities to have experiences beyond a classroom included in an annual learning plan.
In a recent visit to the Western Cape, I was brought to a moment's pause by a very good friend that provided me with a tool that tones down the stress and anxiety one faces on a daily basis The tool and it's implementation is an easy process One needs only to take a moment's pause during te day, look back, and choose three things that happened during the day that one is truly thankful for
I thought this a silly task, however when I took the time to ink down my three items, suddenly I realised that I actually do feel more appreciative of the day as a whole So perhaps not so silly task. Just a way to ground oneself and appreciate the beauty life provides us. We face many obstacles in our daily living, so to find three things in one day one can truly say you are thankful for, and make all the worries and burdens, a little less overwhelming.
Today I am thankful for (1) Being able to produce a magazine that is full of ideas and value (2) Having the opportunity to be able to provide a platform that is used by thousands of teachers to create new experiences and memories for children (3) To have the privilege to engage with positive, creative and inspirational teachers on a daily basis
We at ALLES look forward to a year with many more events where we may be able to connect in person and share our values and dreams with so many more teachers.

The Constitution of South Africa, Act 108 of 1996 (‘the Constitution’) entitles parties to access information held by private and public bodies (section 32)
The purpose of the Promotion of Access to information Act, act 2 of 2000 (‘PAIA’) was to entrench the aforesaid right of access and to establish a community built on the principles of transparency and accountability. However PAIA was postponed numerous times, sometimes subject to qualifications, with the final extension being until December 31 2021. An example was the following exemption passed in 2016 which granted certain industries a 5 year extension to submit a manual i.e. private companies with more than 50 employees or if they have annual turnover figures greater than e.g. Finance and Business Services R10 million
Along comes Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and makes some key changes to PAIA, one of the most significant being the role of the South African Human Rights Commission (‘the SAHRC’): the Information Regulator (‘the IR’) announced that the SAHRC functions in terms of PAIA will be transferred to the IR with effect from June 30 2012.
A further (July 2021) announcement by the IR comes as a relief to business i e it is no longer a requirement to submit PAIA Manuals to the IR. The PAIA Manual must be developed (or adjusted, if you already have a Manual) as per the POPIA Amendment, posted on your websites and copy kept at your principal place of business for inspection by the members of the public during their office hours. The IR has provided not only a guide as to the implementation of PAIA (‘the Guide’) but also a template PAIA/POPI manual (‘the Template’) – see the links at the bottom hereof:
