This project aims to provide a temporary home for off-shore workers in Grimsby during the onshore period. In order to meet the needs of a minimum of 30 households, the project attempted to make the best use of space within the limited site and was completed in the form of a multifunctional high-rise building. The main design concept of this project is "Ground Release", effectively making the ground space available for public use and raising the main functions of the building to a certain height, creating a "New Ground Floor".

Site and Industry: Wider Context
Grimsby as the biggest offshore opration centre in the UK, many relative workers come here from different place to aboard the ship bound for the site everyday. Potential users of the building are offshore workers working in the North Sea on regular cycles. In this case aims to build a temporary accommodation for staff at Ørsted’s offshore wind operation centre in Grimsby.
Work/leave schedules for UK North Sea sites have typically been 'equal-time' (i.e., the same number of weeks spent offshore and on shore breaks), with two weeks of offshore work followed by two weeks of shore break. However, operating company workers and core crew contractors are increasingly being assigned to schedules with longer shore breaks. In recent years, a 2-3 schedule has become standard for many offshore employees; trade unions representing the North Sea sector are working to get this more flexible work/leave schedule for all regular offshore workers.

Right: The Map of Noth Sea Industries demonstrates Grimsby's important position in the wind power industry as the receiving end of wind turbines in the North Sea.

The transient building should meet following criteria for potential users:
1. Easy Accessbility
The site should be close to the port to service the offshore workers.
2. Sufficient Privacy
In terms of sapce planning, the ilving area should be a private space.
3. Open Space
Other than private living space, open space is also crucial for offshore workers in terms of view and space perception.
Site and Issues
Due to its high degree of overlap with the downtown area, Songshan Airport (TSA) is one of the most notble airports in the world. Planes whizzing overhead are the common memory for Taipei residents.
With the development of Taipei, security threats brought by the airport and restrictions on the surrounding constrution are the main reasons some people suggested that the government needed to decommission it. No building in the surrounding one kilometres area can exceed 60 meters in height.

Site located in an important node between traditional town centre and residential area, which truncated by River Freshney. Existing bridge cross the river is just for passing, but without any interaction between two sides of the river.
To make a direct connection between two side of river banks, create a pedestrian path on the noth side then construct a nonlinear and longer bridge to make peolpe tend to stay in this area rather then pass here.
After the construction of the pathway which is more lower than origianl bridge, sink the site to match the height of path to connect the site to the whole pedestrian system. It is also the start to merge with people, circulation and space.

By definig the concrete core on the riverside, the building send a strong language in terms of materiality also define the pah way pass through the site.
As the orignal ground floor has been released to the public, a new ground floor for residents then float into the middle height of the building, and even bigger than the original one, provide residents a new experience of leisure.

Insert founction blocks into the empty floors, blocks under the new ground floor is for public amenity space and facilities, blocks above the new ground floor is for different types of residential units.
