Greetings Allen Edmonds Friends and Extended Family, 2012 was an exciting year for us. As many of you know, this past fall we celebrated our 90th Anniversary and 90 years of “Made in U.S.A.” shoe production. As we look back upon that milestone, we give thanks to you, our customers and extended family, for making it all possible.

Surviving nine decades as an independent company and an American manufacturer is quite an accomplishment, especially considering that over 98% of the shoes sold in our country are made overseas. All of us at Allen Edmonds are so proud of our authentic American heritage and that in the past two years we’ve added more than 200 new employees in our plant and headquarters in Port Washington, Wisconsin. As one of our recent hires said to me, “This job is the difference between my daughter going to college and not going to college.” I’ve never felt better about the value of our work. On top of that, this past November we celebrated the grand opening of the first Allen Edmonds retail store in Shanghai, China. Our “Made in U.S.A.” shoes are now sold directly to Chinese consumers, a great omen for the future and quite a change. As we begin our 91st year, we celebrate that “Made in U.S.A.” and great American styling resonate strongly once again around the globe. We look to take our game to a higher level in response. Thanks to feedback from all of you (as well as some on-trend creativity from our design team), we are pushing the product line into even broader territory this season. Last year we introduced over 200 styles to the marketplace (the most in the company’s history), including new patterns, finishes and soles, and we strengthened our core with traditional additions as well. We will continue this evolution throughout 2013. I am particularly excited about additions to our popular unstructured “Mok” Collection, for example the new Cronmok – our new lightweight, unconstructed, low-ankle boot. Also new for 2013 is the Strandmok, which is an unlined suede design, with colored midsole and laces and a very lightweight Vibram outsole. My top pick for this season, though, is the straightforward Patriot penny loafer. It’s just a great fitting shoe with a real masculine look. Our friends at the Horween tannery in Chicago have produced the same type of leather for pro footballs for decades, and now we’ve put it into our Patriot options. The early reviews of this shoe from my football fan buddies have been outstanding. Also in 2013, we have big plans to expand our custom shoe offering, allowing our customers the ability to design the shoe that is truly made just for them. Equally impactful, we will be expanding the Allen Edmonds brand with new logos, redefining and strengthening the Allen Edmonds messaging. THE LEATHER: Great shoes start with great raw materials, and before we handcraft our American made shoes we start by sourcing the finest leathers from around the world. We source from suppliers like Horween in Chicago, Illinois, who have been tanning hides in the U.S.A. since 1905. Once the leather is sourced, we store it in our leather room along with hundreds of other leather types and colors, and hides are cut so that the best pieces of leather are used for the most appropriate part of the shoe.

UPPER SEWING: A number of steps from

Allen Edmonds 212 step process are completed during upper sewing. In these steps, multiple hand-cut pieces of leather which are skived, marked and perfed by hand give our skilled sewers and seamstresses the chance to create the upper portion of the shoe. Doing things right doesnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t require fancy machinery. Most of our sewing is done on machines that are decades old and work as well as the day we purchased them. Sewers use special needles depending on the pieces they are combining, and piece the upper together by hand offering a unique personality and construction for each Allen Edmonds upper.

CONTOURED LASTS: Lasts (or foot shaped

mannequins) are used to form the shape of the shoe. Allen Edmonds has over 20 different Last shapes (See pages 48-49) in a range of sizes from 6AAA to 16EEE, and we can make other less traditional sizes when called upon. During the manufacturing process the correct upper is matched with an exact size insole and corresponding Last. Lasting tools are then used to stretch the upper around the Last and secured to the plyrib on the sole. Next to each shoe in the catalog you will see a number with a solid black background. This is the size chart number and you can see exact size offerings for the shoe on pages 50.

360 DEGREE GOODYEAR WELT: The welt is the piece of leather that binds the upper, the insole and the outsole of the shoe together. The Goodyear welt was invented in America and is used to attach the upper to the sole. A 360 degree goodyear welt ensures durability, flexibility and unsurpassed comfort, and is also one element that allows Allen Edmonds to enter our shoes into our legendary RecraftingÂŽ service.

CORK FOOTBED: A short plyrib is attached to the bottom of the insole. This creates a cavity so that heated cork can be spread throughout the insole cavity prior to the sole being applied. A cork layer between the insole and the outsole of the shoe allows each shoe to form to the customer’s foot, creating a uniquely shaped footbed and “custom” feel to each pair of Allen Edmonds.

FINISHING: In the final step of the shoemaking

process the shoes move to the finishing department, where skilled artisans hand detail each pair of Allen Edmonds shoes. We’ve developed hand-finishing and polishing techniques that highlight the natural appearance, or “highs and lows” of the leather while simultaneously protecting it from the elements. Each Allen Edmonds shoe leaves these artisan’s hands with a personality all its own.

91 YEAR HERITAGE: In 1922, Allen Edmonds

founder Elbert W. Allen launched his new shoe company (originally called the Allen-Spiegel Shoe Company) in Belgium, Wisconsin, less than 10 miles from our current headquarters. Our lineage not only highlights our Wisconsin roots and Midwestern values, but underscores how being an Allen Edmonds Man is passed down from one generation to the next. We’ve been making shoes virtually the same way since 1922, and until someone improves on our way of doing things, we are sticking with what got us here.

The Allen Edmonds Dress Collection provides the shoes a man needs for his daily professional wardrobe. We recently introduced the Independence Collection, which features the finest aged calfskin leather for an ultra-soft feel, with special attention paid to the details. These shoes are named after the signers of the Declaration of Independence to reflect their American heritage. DRESS - LACE-UPS LACE-UPS The styles in this section are all lace-up bluchers and balmorals. These shoes are perfect for the executive whose attire requires dressier, more business-appropriate styles for the office or professional meetings. New for 2013 is our V-Tread Rubber Tap sole, which is the perfect sole for the businessman who is always on the move, and often in rainy or snowy weather. V-tread soles are now available on many of our most popular leather soled styles including the Strand, Park Avenue, Delray and McAllister.

CLASSIC CORDOVAN CORDOVAN - LACE UPS & SLIP ONS Many people mistake cordovan as a color, but it is actually a rare kind of leather. Our cordovan leather is sourced from Horween, a Chicagobased tannery established in 1905 and one of the last remaining – and arguably one of the finest – cordovan tanneries in the world. Cordovan is especially popular throughout Europe where men don a pair of cordovan shoes, not just for work, but also as their Sunday best “church shoes.”

CORDOVAN CARE TIP Cordovan leather requires different care than calfskin due to its different properties. To remove any natural oils or residue in areas where the shoe flexes and to maintain the leather’s quality, simply brush the leather with a horsehair shine brush or wipe with a cotton flannel polishing cloth. Polish occasionally with Allen Edmonds Cordovan Care Cream to protect the leather and maintain its rich color.

In 2012, Allen Edmonds signed a partnership agreement with legendary golfer, Jack Nicklaus. After a lifetime of rewriting the record books and walking courses around the world, Mr. Nicklaus now suffers from several foot problems that require orthotics in his shoes. COLLECTION The Allen Edmonds Belt Collection features a range of styles from dress to casual to complement any look in your wardrobe. And our belts are made in the U.S.A. and handfinished to coordinate with the unique palate of colors and finishes used in our line of shoes. To maintain a professional appearance, men should always wear a genuine leather belt to the office. Every man should have at least two belts in his collection: a basic black leather belt and a basic brown leather belt. A black belt should be worn with black shoes and a brown belt paired with brown shoes. Under no circumstances should a brown belt be paired with black shoes, or vice versa. To look even more fashionable, belt colors and patterns should coordinate with shoe colors and patterns. To determine belt size, simply go up one or two sizes from the waist size of your pants. The tail of the belt should easily pass through the first belt loop on your pants, but it should not extend too far past the belt loop.

SERVICES RECRAFTING Allen Edmonds shoes are so well-made that we can actually return them to like-new condition with our exclusive Recrafting process. Recrafting is far more than simple shoe repair. Using the original manufacturing process, we literally rebuild worn footwear from the bottom up. With six packages to choose from, Recrafting is the perfect way to give new life to old shoes. All of the styles in our Italian Collection can now go through our exclusive Recrafting service. Due to the construction methods and materials used, some modifications are required in the Recrafting of Italian shoes.

Prestige Package Our Prestige Package is a complete restoration. We begin by replacing soles, heels, welting, cork footbeds and laces. Next, we completely refinish the uppers, handpolishing the leather to a vibrant glow. Finally, we add aromatic cedar shoe trees, place shoes in protective shoe bags and include a Premium Polish. Burnished Calfskin

To remove the slight haze you may notice with a new pair of burnished calfskin shoes, wipe them with a soft cloth or brush with a horsehair shine brush. Clean regularly with a damp cloth and allow them to air dry. Then, using a soft cloth, apply a medium coat of Allen Edmonds Shoe Polish in the appropriate color and allow to air dry. Brush with a horsehair shine brush to remove excess polish and buff using a soft, cotton flannel cloth.

Doctors often specifically recommend Allen Edmonds shoes to their patients who suffer from such ailments because of our breadth of available sizes. If you are a first-time Allen Edmonds customer, it is important that you are fit professionally at an Allen Edmonds Retail Store or Authorized Dealer who is familiar with the sizing and fit of Allen Edmonds shoes. Allen Edmonds shoes come in lengths from 6-16. Each half size increases by approximately one-sixth of an inch and each full size increases by one-third of an inch. The widths of Allen Edmonds shoes range from AAA, the narrowest width, to EEE, the widest width, with a D width considered medium. Technically speaking, each width increases by approximately three-sixteenths of an inch in total girth. Another benefit of choosing Allen Edmonds shoes is the wide variety of lasts we use. SUPPORT - SIZE CHARTS BIG & TALL PRODUCT OFFERINGS Allen Edmonds has always been regarded for offering a wide range of sizes and widths to fit virtually any foot, making us a highly sought after shoe brand by professional athletes. In addition to our large size and width offering, our shoes are constructed on a number of different lasts. Each last has slightly different shapes, which lead to differing fit characteristics so it’s easy for a man to find a last that fits his specific foot shape for everlasting comfort. By referencing the shoe size charts on page 61, you can see which charts offer shoes in larger sizes (14, 15 and 16) and widths (E, EE and EEE). In addition, we offer a wide range of belt sizes and several of our belts are available as special orders in larger sizes (46-60). In 2012, Allen Edmonds became the official shoe of the National Basketball Coaches Association. These gentlemen often require longer and wider shoes, making Allen Edmonds the perfect partner.
