BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

The Future of Full-Arch Dentistry Is Being Developed in Allendale A collaborative piece written by Allendale Area Chamber of Commerce and Grand Valley Dentistry

For years, patients with failing or missing teeth faced a difficult truth: fragmented care. The most complex cases were shuttled between oral surgeons, prosthodontists, labs, and restorative dentists — and patients were left navigating a confusing, prolonged process.

And behind Dr. Lance, always, is his wife — whose presence and care he credits with steadying him in the hardest seasons.

IN ALLENDALE, THAT STORY IS CHANGING Dr. Lance and the team at Grand Valley Dentistry have pioneered a new professional pathway in dentistry: the Full Mouth Reconstruction Implant Surgeon. This role represents a surgeon who designs, performs, and delivers a patient’s complete smile restoration — combining surgical skill, implant mastery, prosthetic design, and in-house lab creation. One vision, one set of hands, start to finish. “I didn’t inherit these skills — I earned them painstakingly, over decades,” Dr. Lance says. “There were times that I didn’t think I’d make it. By God’s help, and because of the people who stood with me, I built the environment, and the technical and emotional muscle to do this work. Now we have the responsibility to pay it forward…” A TEAM THAT BUILDS BETTER CARE Although Dr. Lance is the founder of this pathway, the program depends on a committed Team. Under his mentorship, Dr. Garcia-Ortega and Dr. Caleb Campbell are being trained in this advanced, start-to-finish model. Dr. Michael Durand, a skilled general dentist, extraction/denture champion with endodontic focus, strengthens the practice’s continuity of care. The practice’s operations backbone, Erin Langlois, Operations Manager, has been instrumental in carrying the mission forward during moments of crisis and triumph.

SAME-DAY TECHNOLOGY, HUMAN RESULTS Grand Valley has transformed from a traditional clinic into an integrated clinical-lab environment. Advanced intraoral scanning, AI-enhanced workflows, 3D CBCT x-ray imaging, and in-house 3D printing allow the team to design and produce customized prosthetics, on the day-of-surgery. That means patients can arrive with diseased or missing teeth and leave the very same day with a fully functional, life-changing smile. This isn’t an efficiency for its own sake. It’s about shortening the pathway from despair to dignity. It reduced the risk of miscommunication, and controlling aesthetic and functional outcomes by keeping design and fabrication under one roof.

REBRANDING FOR A NEW ERA To reflect this evolution, Grand Valley Dentistry is rebranding to Grand Valley implant Dentistry and launching the Smile Transformation Institute alongside a newly formed in-house dental lab (name forthcoming). The Institute will serve as the teaching hub for the Full Mouth Reconstruction Implant Surgeon pathway, cultivating clinicians who can deliver ethical, start-to-finish care. PAYING IT FORWARD: ONE FULL-MOUTH TRANSFORMATION (AT A TIME… ) As the practice opens this new chapter, the team is launching a pro bono full-mouth transformation. Grand Valley Implant Dentistry will accept applications and short video submissions from residents; one local recipient will be selected to receive a complete smile restoration performed collaboratively by all four doctors at the Single, Allendale location. “We’ve earned the privilege to do this work through sacrifice,” Dr. Lance says. “Now we have the responsibility to pay it forward — using everything we’ve built and been entrusted with to empower a neighbor who never thought a new smile was possible.”

THE FUTURE STARTS IN ALLENDALE For patients, this new model means clearer pathways, fewer referrals, faster results, and care designed around one accountable team. For the profession, it’s a blueprint for a new way to practice complex implant dentistry — a teachable, replicable pathway that centers patient dignity and provider accountability. For Allendale, it’s a reason to be proud: the town is home to a team building the Future of Full-Arch implant Care, right here!

A NEW KIND OF MARKETING: SOCIAL FIRST, STORY FIRST Instead of investing heavily in outside marketing agencies, the team is turning to a more authentic and community-driven approach: social media storytelling. Applications for the pro bono case will include short video submissions. These will not only help the team understand applicants’ needs — they will also provide powerful, user-generated content for social platforms like Instagram (@dr._lance). Finalists will be highlighted for a public vote on social media, further engaging the community. The selected case will be documented from start to finish in an uplifting, emotionally powerful video series. With today’s tools — iPhones for filming, and AI editors like GPT and Gemini — the team can create Netflix-quality storytelling at a fraction of the cost. This strategy means less money spent on traditional marketing, and more resources devoted to paying it forward with additional life-changing surgeries. Over time, the Smile Transformation Institute aims to release a library of transformation stories so compelling that streaming platforms will notice — or simply grow a massive following on Instagram, YouTube, and beyond.
