Main Street held a week-long poll for the public to choose the Wine Swirl theme After a very tight race between “Vino at the Casino” or “In My Wine Swirl Era” The theme that ultimately won was “In My Wine Swirl Era”. Thank you to everyone who voted and helped make this decision. The race was incredibly close! We are excited to take a beautiful trip down memory lane and celebrate 13 years of swirling, sipping, and savoring with the Nacogdoches community Tickets will be available starting February 7th

A Very Victorian Christmas Dinner
The Sterne-Hoya House hosted a magical Very Victorian Christmas Dinner on December 13th, offering guests an enchanting journey into the warmth and charm of Victorian Christmas traditions. The house was beautifully transformed into a winter wonderland, providing the perfect backdrop for this immersive evening.
A delightful, historically inspired menu was catered by Merci's World Cuisine, complemented by mulled wine from Naca Valley Vineyard. Many attendees embraced the spirit of the event by donning period-inspired attire, with a prize for the best dressed generously donated by Pemberley's at the Jones House.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, the Gobel School of Dance brought Victorian dances to life in the street, inviting guests to learn the elegant moves of the 19th century The evening was made possible by the generous support of McWilliams Heating, Cooling & Plumbing, and the dedication of our incredible volunteers and staff.

Holiday Hours
The Sterne-Hoya House, Durst-Taylor House, and Zion Hill will be open regular hours other than Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Day.
The depot will be closed until January 2nd to allow time to take down the Loblolly Model Train Display.

Leadership Nac Tours A.L Mangham Airport
Leadership Nac visited the Nacogdoches airport as part of its “City of Nac” day,where attendees learned much about the airports functions, traffic and plans for potential expansion Members of SFA’s flight school were also on hand to present information about SFA’s aviation program and the growth it has experienced at the Nacogdoches airport.

The Books from Santa event was a great success Parents/caregivers signed up their children to receive a free book Santa and his elf gave away the books and families enjoyed hot chocolate and popcorn donated by Susu’s Popcorn Families who were unable to attend can still pick up their books during regular library hours They might even see one of Santa’s elves.
In anticipation of folks getting new tech devices over the holidays, the library staff is offering Tech Heroes on Monday, January 6th from 122pm. Library staff and volunteers will help customers learn to use their new (or not new) devices. Oftentimes customers get new devices from family members, but struggle to use them once the family returns home after the holidays. We are here to help. The session is first-come, first-serve. Customers will also learn about the free digital products available through the library

Public Works
Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in zone 5 and brush in zone 7.
Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.
Brush & Yard Waste Pickup
• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.
o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.
o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.
o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.
o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.
o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste
o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.
o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection. Yard waste must be properly bagged.
o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.
o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:
-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.
Police Department
Members of the Nacogdoches Police Department’s SWAT Team were on hand to give members of the Leadership Nac class an up close and personal look at SWAT equipment and vehicles, including the MRAP armored personnel carrier
Citizen’s Police Academy
The Nacogdoches Police Department is set to host a Citizens’ Police Academy. Feb 3May 12. This 14-week program aims to provide citizens with a comprehensive understanding of the Nacogdoches Police Department and the field of law enforcement.
Sgt. Brett Ayres, the program coordinator, stated, “The initiative offers a thorough examination of law enforcement, focusing specifically on the policies and procedures of the Nacogdoches Police Department. It seeks to inform citizens about the rationale behind our decisions and the methods we employ in various situations.”
The program will commence on February 3rd, with the graduation ceremony planned for May 12th. Classes will take place at the police department every Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Attendance is free of charge, but enrollment is limited to 24 participants.

The City of Nacogdoches now requires property owners/managers to obtain a Sign Permit to display feather signs on certain commercial or multifamily apartment properties.
FEATHER SIGN (aka teardrop) means a sign in a feather, flutter, square, teardrop, and half drop shape usually self-supported or supported by a flexible pole(s) and firmly affixed to the ground.
Feather signs are only allowed in the following districts:
- B-1, B-2, B-3, & M zoning districts - R-4 districts (multifamily apartments only)
A permit must be obtained from the City of Nacogdoches for all new or continued use

Parks Department
The Parks and Recreation Advisory board reviewed and approved the designs for the Maroney Park Playground rebuild. The contractor, Cox Jones, is working on the construction documents and the project should commence in early 2025.
Recreation Department
Beethoven came by for a short performance at the recreation center today He is a 3 year old great pyrenees mix and is looking for his forever home. He is great at sitting and waiting to be pet. He played his role as a reindeeer wll and is hoping to find his forever home by Christmas.
Youth basketball’s games began last weekend. Next youth basketball games will be January 11th.
Recreation Supervisor Joy Palmer provided the Leadership Nac group with a tour of the C.L Simon Recreation Center and explanation of City recreation programs this week
