This week Visit Nacogdoches held its first Nacogdoches Tours for SFA Orientation The tours are at 8:30am and 3:30pm on orientation days throughout the summer. Attendees are picked up from the SFA Student Center on a bus, and enjoy an hour-long tour of the town led by Visit Nac staff. The first tour had 15 attendees, and we hope to see that number increase as this becomes a regular offering

Looking Ahead: Texas Blueberry Festival
The 35th Annual Texas Blueberry Festival, presented by Tipton Ford, kicks off Saturday, June 14 at 8:00 a.m. in historic downtown Nacogdoches. To accommodate vendor setup, road closures will begin Friday evening, June 13, at 5:00 p.m.
Make sure to shop with our downtown businesses during the festival—many will have vendor booths, special sales, and blueberry-themed merchandise throughout the day.

Indoor Crafts at the Durst-Taylor House during the Blueberry Festival
Families are invited to take a break from the heat and enjoy indoor crafts at the Durst-Taylor Historic House during the Texas Blueberry Festival. Crafts will be blueberry-themed, and guests can also explore the historic house and gardens. The site will be open for regular hours on Saturday, June 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Junior Engineer Days
This Thursday marked the start of our weekly Junior Engineer Days at the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot!
Every Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., children can visit the depot to enjoy trainthemed crafts, activity stations, and more. The Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot
Join Nacogdoches Historic Sites for a free screening of The Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at Zion Hill Historic Site, 324 N. Lanana Street This Angel Studios film tells the inspiring true story of Reverend Martin and Donna Martin of Possum Trot, Texas, whose church community adopted 77 children from the foster care system The evening will include opening remarks and a post-film Q&A with producers Rebekah and Josh Weigel

The Color Our World Summer Reading & Programs launch this Saturday at 1:00pm. Participants will get to preview the programs, register for the reading challenge and play games and enjoy snacks. Independent and family reading during the summer is very important in maintaining the valuable literacy skills kids learned through the school year, therefore, the library encourages families to visit the library to borrow books. The Library staff is excited to announce a new book club for teens, Animated Books Club. The group is for ages 12-18 years and will meet the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month. Participants will gather with fellow graphic novel, anime, and comic enthusiasts. The first meeting will be June 13th at 4:30pm. No registration is required.
The Library will host its Book Tasting on June 13th at 5:30pm. Guests will try out new books in a restaurantthemed setting. Taste new types of books—mystery, fantasy, nonfiction, and more—by choosing from a "menu" of exciting options. Family-friendly. Drop in, pick your "course," and dive into something new! All ages are welcome. No registration is required.
Puzzles have become super popular in recent years and many people have asked for a puzzle swap. The Library staff is pleased to announce the first puzzle swap on Saturday, June 14th at 12pm. Participants are encouraged to bring their complete, gently-used puzzles and trade with fellow puzzle aficionados. There’s no maximum number of puzzles to bring, but participants should bring at least one to trade. The event is for all ages and no registration is required. Public Works crews are currently clearing brush in zones 15 & 18.
Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.
Brush & Yard Waste Pickup
• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.
o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.
o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.
o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.
o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.
o Limbs should not extend into the roadway.
Bagged yard waste
o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.
o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection. Yard waste must be properly bagged.
o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.
o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:
-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

Residents visiting City Hall will notice some new artwork adorning the elevators at either end of the building. These newly installed elevator clings help to elevate the space they are in and will help showcase the beauty of Nacogdoches year round!

North Street Sewer Line Rehabilitation
Beginning Monday, June 9, rehabilitation work will begin on the sewer line beneath North Street that runs between Austin Street and Ellington Street. Beginning next week, a contractor will be performing a video survey of the existing sewer line in the street and beginning on June 9 crews will perform pipe bursting during overnight hours and manhole and service reconnections during the day.
This work will take several weeks to complete and will require closure of one of the southbound lanes of North Street during this period. Traffic control devices will be in place for safety and motorists should use caution while driving in this area and expect delays when traveling southbound due to these repairs.
City Accepting Bids for Street Paving Project
The City will be receiving bids for the bond-funded 2025 Street Paving Project next Tuesday, June 17 at 2:00 PM, map attached.
Road Closure for Repair
Due to damage to the road in the 700 block of Harris Street, the road is closed to through traffic through the weekend. Public Works crews are on hand to assess the damage and perform necessary repairs. Motorists will need to seek alternate routes through this area during this period.

Mia, a nine year old shepherd mix, spent the day snoring at the Recreation Center. She met some patrons and then took a nice long nap complete with soft snores and her tongue hanging out. Mia is looking for her forever home. She gets along well with everyone and is very gentle. If you are looking for a new addition to your family Mia would be a great choice! Click here to adopt her.
The first week of ninja camp was a success. The full camp had 24 participants. There are still some spots available in other weeks of our new gymnastics and ninja camps. Click here for more information on these camps:
Tomorrow’s (Saturday, June 7th) Hike through Nature location has been changed due to weather. The hike will now begin at Pecan Park at the trailhead located at the end of Logansport. Participants wanting to attend can still register for this free event here.
