Thank you to the Nacogdoches residents who submitted their applications for the July Boards and Commissions. City Council will conduct interviews with those meeting the application deadline, on Monday, July 16, and Tuesday, July 17, 2025.

Convention & Visitor’s Bureau

This week Visit Nacogdoches Director Ashley Morgan attended the Texas Association of Convention & Visitor Bureau (TACVB)'s Innovation Summit, where she brought home information about AI's role in destination marketing.

Visit Nacogdoches provided tours of Nacogdoches to SFA families for orientation again this week, and will continue to do so for the rest of the summer! We've received positive feedback from students and their parents

The Blueberry Jam is TONIGHT! All are invited to enjoy this free event put on by Visit Nacogdoches featuring three local bands, kids activities, food trucks and much more. Bring chairs, blankets, and friends, but please leave coolers at home. A map and FAQ are attached.

All staff will be on deck welcoming visitors to the Texas Blueberry Festival and surrounding events, which can be found at visitnacogdoches org/blueberry See y'all there!

Summer Field Trips

This week, we welcomed the San Augustine Boys & Girls Club and students from Central Heights to the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot. They enjoyed the same crafts featured during Junior Engineer Days, along with the interactive activity stations throughout the depot.

Nacogdoches Public Library joins us for Junior Engineer Days

Emily hosted a storytime for children during this week’s Junior Engineer Days at the train depot, reading the beloved tale of The Little Engine That Could. Volunteers from the Junior Forum also joined us to greet families and assist with crafts.

Loblolly Train Display in Downtown for Texas Blueberry Festival

The Loblolly Model Train Display will be making an appearance in the window of Susu’s Popcorn Friday afternoon and Saturday for the Texas Blueberry Festival.

Nacogdoches Public Library

The Library staff is pleased to announce the first puzzle swap on Saturday, June 14th at 12pm. Participants are encouraged to bring their complete, gently-used puzzles and trade with fellow puzzle aficionados. There’s no maximum number of puzzles to bring, but participants should bring at least one to trade. The event is for all ages and no registration is required. Contact library staff at 936-559-2970 for more information.

The second full week of the Color Our World Summer Reading & Programs will include a Puzzle Trade and Lego Club on Saturday, Super Tuesday: Ninja Training for kids and Family Card Night on Tuesday, Storytime, Citizenship Class and Teen Clay the Dragon on Wednesday, Babytime, SFA Preview Performance of Curious George Total Meatball and Teen Nerf Battle on Friday. Participants can count program attendance on their ReadSquared Summer Reading & Programs account to increase their chances of winning one of the grand prizes at the end of the summer.

The library will receive a Bats-a-Billion Discovery Trunk from the Texas Wildlife Association in late June. The trunk will provide hands-on items for children and families to learn about bats and their importance to the ecosystem. The discovery trunk will be available June 30th - July 11th.

Public Works

Public Works crews are currently clearing brush in zones 17 & 20.

Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.

Brush & Yard Waste Pickup

• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.

o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.

o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.

o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.

o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.

o Limbs should not extend into the roadway.

Bagged yard waste

o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.

o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection. Yard waste must be properly bagged.

o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.

o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:

-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

Engineering/Public Works

North Street Sewer Line Rehabilitation

Beginning Monday, June 16, rehabilitation work will begin on the sewer line beneath North Street that runs between Austin Street and Ellington Street. Beginning next week, a contractor will be performing a video survey of the existing sewer line in the street and beginning on June 16 crews will perform pipe bursting during overnight hours and manhole and service reconnections during the day.

This work will take several weeks to complete and will require closure of one of the southbound lanes of North Street during this period. Traffic control devices will be in place for safety and motorists should use caution while driving in this area and expect delays when traveling southbound due to these repairs.

City Accepting Bids for Street Paving Project

The City will be receiving bids for the bond-funded 2025 Street Paving Project next Tuesday, June 17 at 2:00 PM.

Public Meeting set to discuss Lloyd Street signal removal

Nacogdoches residents are invited to meet with TxDOT staff members to discuss the potential removal of the signal at the Lloyd Street and North Street intersection. That meeting is open to the public and will be held at the C.L Simon Recreation Center on June 17, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. Please see the media release on the next page for more info.

This week’s hometown heroes camp was packed full of fun activities The week started out with the annual Touch-a-Truck event This year children touched, climbed in, turned on sirens and honked horns in police cars, fire trucks, a swat truck, garbage truck, brush truck, street paver and dump trucks. A BIG Thank You to all who participate, Nacogdoches Fire Department, Police Department, and Public Works as well as SFA Police Department and Jamie Rodrigues State Farm for bringing a dump truck. This event is always a crowd pleaser and could not happen without these fun and exciting vehicles The Nacogdoches Police Department also hosted a crime scene investigation activity for the campers where they got to learn how to be detectives. Campers showed their appreciation for the hometown heroes by making a banner as a thank you to the police department and giving it to them to display at the police station.

The Hike through Nature last Saturday was a success even though the location had to be changed due to weather Participants hiked the Lanana Creek trail learning about plants and wildlife along the route

The Running of the Blueberries 5K, 10K and 1 mile is tomorrow, June 14th 400 runners from all over are registered. The run will begin at Pecan Park with the 10K starting at 7:15am.

Parks Department

The Parks Department has been working extra hard this month! Splashadoches at Maroney Park and the brand new splashpad at Temple Park have opened, as well as the brand new playground at Robert McCrimmon Park. The parks crew has done maintenance, spread mulch, and performed countless other tasks to get these properties ready to open in May Summertime also brings multiple tournaments including disc golf, softball, and youth baseball, and the Parks crew has worked tirelessly to get the City of Nacogdoches' sports facilities ready. Great work to this amazing crew!
