Nacogdoches Main Street
The Main Street Advisory Board held their annual retreat on April 22nd, where they reviewed the current work plan and discussed future goals for the revitalization of downtown Nacogdoches
The board focused on aligning strategies with upcoming projects, ensuring continued progress in preserving and promoting the historic district. The Main Street Manager attended the Friends of the Texas Historical Commission's Real Places Conference in Austin from April 23-25 The conference provided valuable opportunities to explore collaborations between Nacogdoches and the Texas Historical Commission, as well as resources for property owners in the downtown historic district, including access to preservation grants and tax credits.
The 2025 Nacogdoches Wine Swirl was a huge success, attracting over 1,000 attendees and raising roughly $20,000 to support downtown revitalization efforts A heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers, sponsors, wineries, vendors, and attendees for making this one of the best Wine Swirl events yet!

NISD 7th Grade Students Tour Nacogdoches Historic Sites
This week, 7th grade students from McMichael Middle School took part in a Texas History field trip that highlighted the incredible historic resources in downtown Nacogdoches.
Their visit included stops at the Old University Building, the Charles Bright Visitor Center, and the Sterne-Hoya House giving students a chance to connect classroom learning with realworld history.
Volunteers Help Restore Fence at the Sterne-Hoya House
We’ve had several generous organizations reach out this season to volunteer at our historic sites.
Using a phased approach, volunteers from Delta Zeta (as part of SFA’s Big Event) began by cleaning the fence surrounding the Sterne-Hoya House. This week, a local homeschool group followed up by painting it

Nacogdoches Public Library
The Public Library, in collaboration with NISD and First Baptist Church, participated in the 2025 El Día de los Niños event on April 26, 2025 This year the event was held at First Baptist Church located at 411 North Street Library staff set up a library information booth at the event which was used to distribute free books to community niños or children at the event. Library staff also engaged the community with answers to questions that people had about general services provided by the library. The public library booth saw a total of 78 visitors at the booth and over 150 free books were distributed to the children of the community.
Library circulation clerk Dylan Freeman made 13 armadillos (collective noun- roll) with the library’s 3D printer for the group of students from McMichael Middle School to present as gifts to their host families when they visit Japan later this month. The 3D printer was purchased with a grant from Texas State Library and Archives Commission and the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and is available for limited use

Public Works
Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in zone 18 and brush in zone 15.
Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.
Brush & Yard Waste Pickup
• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.
o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.
o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.
o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.
o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.
o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste
o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.
o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection. Yard waste must be properly bagged.
o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.
o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:
-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

Engineering/Public Works
As of this week, the City’s contractor has completed all 41 concrete valley gutters and almost all of the curb and gutter sections included in the 2025 Curb and Valley Gutter Project. They will continue next week replacing the last few sections of curb on W. Starr, E. Oak Lane, Edgewood Drive, Brown Street and Redwood Drive as well as any asphalt patching still needed. They will then go to work on restoring disturbed areas and starting final cleanup.
Code Enforcement
The City of Nacogdoches Public Works, Parks and Recreation and Sanitation Departments have collaborated on the hosting of community-focused “Bulk Trash Days” in which residents can sign up to have two large items picked up at their homes or bring them to a drop-off location on the assigned day. This initiative is being made to combat illegal dumping and litter abatement around the city and within public spaces and parks.
Pickup dates are currently scheduled for each Tuesday in May. Residents may register for a pickup or drop-off beginning on April 14 when the registration links will go live. Space is limited to 20 households for curbside pickup and two roll off dumpsters at the Community Drop-off location.
Interested residents should visit the link below on April 14th to claim their spot to participate in either a curbside pickup or drop-off at the Community Drop-off location.

Recreation Department
This is the last week of Corporate Challenge. Companies competed in table tennis, speed puzzling, women’s and coed video games, and tomorrow will compete in the Red Dirt Mud Run and washers tournament. Eaton is currently still in the lead for the large company division. CBTX is still in 2nd place.
The City is currently 3rd, with ETech close behind. For the small company division, Austin Bank is still in the lead, A&P Inflatables is in 2nd place and M&S Pharmacy and Animal Science are still tied for 3rd. On Saturday the overall champions will be announced after the completion of the washer tournament held at Lugnutz. Good luck to all the teams!
Summer camp registration opened this week. All of the rec day camps for ages 5-8 are full with only a few spots left for the 9-12 year olds. There are still opening for all ages 5-12 in our new gymnasics and ninja camps and our twirling camp.

Parks Department
We’re pleased to share that construction of the new playground
Park—funded by the 2024 Bond Election —is nearing completion. Designated as a National Demonstration Site, this playground highlights best practices in promoting physical activity, outdoor play, and community engagement as recognized by national recreation and park standards.
We look forward to celebrating this exciting milestone with an official opening ceremony. Details will be shared in the near future—stay tuned!
Splashadoches will open for the season on Thursday, May 23. The Recreation Department will be hosting an Opening Day event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — stop by and help us kick off the summer season.
The first Bulky Trash Curbside Collection and Drop-Off begins next week. If you live in the Southeast Ward, there’s still time to sign up for curbside pickup of up to two bulky items. You can also bring your bulky items to the Farmers Market on Tuesday, May 6 starting at 4 p.m. for free drop-off.
