In partnership with the Texas Forest Trail Region, we are hosting a hospitality training workshop called the "Texpert Workshop" on Tuesday, March 25th from 10am-4pm. The training is geared toward hospitality employees, students, or anyone interested in receiving their "Texas Friendly" certification. The cost is $30, and covers lunch. There will also be speakers on marketing best practices, economic development tools, and networking.

Municipal Court

Warrant Forgiveness Program

The Nacogdoches Municipal Court is offering a warrant forgiveness program. Through this program, all warrant fees will be removed when a citizen voluntarily contacts the court to pay a minimum of onehalf the total amount due and start a payment plan for the balance owed. Anyone that chooses to pay their fine and court costs in full will save an additional 20% off the fine amount The court will also offer assistance to individuals that may not be able to pay half down or pay in full to work out an agreeable action plan. This program will be available February through April. Anyone that comes to the court to resolve their outstanding warrants will be given safe harbor.

After weeks of delicious competition, Pemberley’s at the Jones House has officially taken home the title of Soup-er Bowl 2025 Champion! Nacogdoches Historic Sites

Preservation efforts at the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot

During a scheduled cleaning of the Depot roof, Historic Sites staff were made aware of a section of broken tiles With the help of multiple city departments, they moved quickly to schedule repairs Originally installed in 2005 as part of the Depot’s initial restoration, the roof was designed with longevity in mind additional tiles were purchased and stored for future maintenance This foresight proved invaluable, as those reserved tiles were used this week to complete the necessary repairs.

The Depot remains open to the public, and the roof is scheduled to be cleaned early next week.

SFA Students Play Key Roles in Upcoming Historic Site Events

Students from Stephen F. Austin State University are actively contributing to multiple Historic Sites events this season.

Next Tuesday, the SFA Cello Squad will take the stage at Zion Hill for a special concert at 7:00 PM. The program will feature a blend of traditional pieces and popular favorites. Tickets are available for just $5.

On March 11th, an SFA student will bring Princess Tiana from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog to life for Interactive Family Movie Night at Zion Hill. Children will have the chance to meet and take photos with Princess Tiana before enjoying a sing-along screening of the film Throughout the movie, attendees can use props to act out key scenes, making for a truly immersive experience This event is free to the public, but parents are encouraged to RSVP as prop bags are limited

Nacogdoches Public Library

As part of the Dinner Conversation Series, the library has partnered with UT Tyler to present a program on health literacy Incorporating Lifestyle Changes will be held on March 11th at 5:30pm The talk will focus on educating the public about diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer As part of this health initiative, UT Tyler has made two blood pressure machines available to the public for checkout. The library has many activities planned for Spring Break Week. All library programs are free although some programs require registration through eventbrite.com.

To encourage reading and capture the energy of March Madness, the library will host a Book Character March Madness tournament. Tournament books will be juvenile, teen and adult books. Visit our website in the coming weeks for more information on how to vote for your favorite book or character

Public Works

Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in zone 15 and brush in zone 12.

Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.

Brush & Yard Waste Pickup

• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.

o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.

o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.

o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.

o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.

o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste

o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.

o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection. Yard waste must be properly bagged.

o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.

o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:

-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

As part of Phase 1 of the 2025 Curb and Valley Gutter Project, curb replacement and valley gutter installations will begin next week on Arthur Weaver Street, Eliza Street, Glass Street, Ward Street, Fox Street, Brown Street, Zula Street, Colston Street, Yolunda Drive, Sharon Drive and Ila Street. Work is expected to take a couple of days at each location once construction begins Residents should use caution while driving through these areas and thru traffic should plan alternate routes, if possible

Teen Break Night, hosted by the Recreation Center and Library, is tonight. Teens 12-17 will play glow in the dark pickleball, nerf battle and games. This free event is being held from 6:30-8:30pm tonight at the Recreation Center/Library.

Spring break camp starts Monday March 10th. There are just a couple of spots left. Registration will stay open until full or until the first day of camp. Make sure to register while there are still spots available.

Girls’s youth volleyball teams are still looking for 1 more volunteer coach for our 11-12 age division. Anyone interested in coaching girl’s youth volleyball can contact the Recreation Center.

Registration is open for THINK and PLAY like a Volleyball Champ! Life Coach for Kids and Teens, Michelle Cox, and Volleyball Assistant, Lydia Allen, are teaming up to give volleyball athletes, ages 7-12, top tips on building and maintaining a winner's mindset, while honing in on those volleyball skills! Coach Michelle will guide athletes through three mindset skills: managing stress, bouncing back from failure and losing, and good sportsmanship within a team. Assistant Coach Lydia will lead drills, serving techniques and scrimmages.
