Preparations for the Historic Skills Fair THIS SATURDAY

Our staff have been hard at work this week preparing for the Historic Skills Fair this Saturday!

Museum assistants have been busy organizing crafts, cleaning the site, and making sure the Durst-Taylor House is ready to welcome visitors. Our dedicated park staff helped harvest sugarcane for the cane mill demonstration, while the City Gardener has tended to the plants, pulled weeds, and made sure the gardens will be looking their best.

We’re also grateful for the many volunteers who will be joining us on Saturday to share their time and talents with children and families. A special thank you to the Texas Forestry Museum and Mission Dolores State Historic Site for participating, and to the Stone Fort Museum for providing their delicious sugar plum jelly to share with visitors.

There is so much effort that goes into these events, but it’s all worth it to bring history to life for the Nacogdoches community.

The Día de los Muertos Festival is tomorrow, on Nov. 1 at Festival Park from 1-5pm. This cultural celebration will feature food and retail vendors, performances by Ketzaly Folklorico dancers, the Chikawa Aztec Dance group from Conroe and Grupo Constelacion, a local conjunto band. It will also feature a community altar and artwork by area students. For more information, please visit nactx.us/library or call library staff at 936-559-970.

This year ’ s event will feature art from Douglass ISD and Nacogdoches ISD students.

A new event has also been added. There will be a “grito” contest. The contest is open to everyone.
