Friday Update Convention & Visitor’s Bureau This week Visit Nac staff attended a Deep East Texas regional marketing meeting in Lufkin to discuss ways to establish our region as a destination for extended travel.

Today is Nac Snack Friday! Food Trucks will be on the square from 11am-2pm or sold out. Tonight, Swing in the Streets will take place on the CVB Back Stage and Pilar Street.

Several events are planned this weekend!

Merry Christmas Market – November 7–8 Downtown Nacogdoches businesses will transform into a festive holiday destination during the Merry Christmas Market, a two-day open house event featuring extended shopping hours, decorated storefronts, and a chance to win one of our downtown gift baskets.

Brendyn’s BBQ Named Finalist for Best Downtown Business

Event Hours: November 7 | 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

November 8 | 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Shoppers who spend $25 or more at a participating business will receive a giveaway ticket to enter the drawing.

Completed tickets can be dropped in ballot boxes located at the check out at participating businesses. Two winners will be drawn live on Facebook the following week.

Brendyn’s BBQ is a finalist in the 2025 Texas Downtown President’s Awards! The Best Downtown Business category celebrates businesses that go above and beyond in serving their community, supporting local events, and bringing life to their downtown district. Friday Update Nacogdoches Historic Sites Another wonderful concert at Zion Hill with Christie Cook What a wonderful night of music, stories, and community. Christie’s heartfelt performance filled the church with warmth and joy, and we’re so grateful to everyone who came out to support live music and historic preservation in Nacogdoches.

Gearing up for Historic Skills Fair!

Join us for the Historic Skills Fair on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Durst-Taylor Historic House & Gardens (304 North St.)!

Watch live demonstrations of blacksmithing, spinning and weaving, and see the mule-powered sugar-cane mill in action as sugar-cane juice is extracted onsite. Fresh sugar-cane syrup will be available for purchase!

Enjoy basket weaving with Mission Dolores Historic Site, visit the Texas Forestry Museum booth for a hands-on craft for kids, and stop by the barn for children’s crafts and historic games.

The El Camino Real Band will perform lively 1800s fiddle music throughout the morning, adding the perfect soundtrack to this celebration of East Texas heritage.

Friday Update Nacogdoches Public Library The library staff and volunteers are abuzz with excitement for the Día de los Muertos Festival on Nov. 1st at Festival Park from 1-5pm. This cultural celebration will feature food and retail vendors, performances by folklorico dancers, the Chikawa Aztec Dance group from Conroe and a local conjunto band. The library recently received free copies of Voter Guides for the November election. Guides were provided by the nonpartisan group, Texas League of Women Voters, and are available in English and Spanish.

The library staff will host a funeral planning workshop on October 28th at 5:30pm as part of the Dinner Conversation series. The event is free, but registration is requested through eventbrite.com.

Friday Update Public Works Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in zone 6 and brush in zone 17.

Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.

Brush & Yard Waste Pickup • Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street. o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles. o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter. o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush. o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up. o Limbs should not extend into the roadway.

Bagged yard waste o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses. o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection.

Yard waste must be properly bagged. o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week. o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the: -Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

The National Weather Service forecast shows a potential for Flash Flooding and Severe Weather on Saturday, with heavy rainfall beginning after midnight and continuing through the day on Saturday. Total rain accumulation between 1"-3" is expected, and portions of Deep East Texas (including Nacogdoches) are within the Flood Watch Area (see below).

TxDOT continues to make progress on the evaluation of detailed applications submitted from communities across the state for TxDOT’s 2025 Transportation Alternatives (TA) Call for Projects. The Public Transportation Division (PTN) is on schedule for the November 13th Texas Transportation Commission Meeting. They will email all project sponsors the approved minute order (MO) with a list of awarded projects once the MO is signed after the commission meeting.

The City submitted two (2) project applications for funding under this program in the Spring - a sidewalk on South Street and an Active Transportation Plan on North Street.

Recreation Department Next week are the first Fall Craft Days.

This is a free come-and-go event. All materials will be provided and all ages are welcome.

Winter Basketball league will have their evaluation day at the Nacogdoches Highschool competition gym next Wednesday October 29th. Volunteer coaches still needed for some age groups!

Winter Camps are coming up! Mark your calendars for winter mini-camps December 22nd and 23rd and December 29th and 30th. Registration will open November 3rd.

The Nacogdoches Humane Society recognized this and has *SPONSORED* the adoption fees for orange cats through the 31st of this month!
