The 400 block of Pearl Street behind First Baptist Church is closed today and tomorrow in order to repair water lines and sections of road that have been damaged.

Visit Nac is excited to welcome the largest freshman class in SFA history to town this weekend! In coordination with SFA Orientation and Nacogdoches Main Street, we are hosting a "Welcome to Nac" event this Saturday from 9am-3pm. Food trucks will be parked on the square and Downtown shops will be offering discounts and goodies to students with an SFA ID. SFA Buses will run continuously from 9am3pm, making stops at the Farmer's Market and the Visitor Center.

Main Street and CVB Board members are volunteering on Saturday to welcome students and give directions.

Staff is also attending and assisting with the SFA Chamber Connection's "Nac in a Nutshell" event on Tuesday, August 26th.

Brick Street Burger Battle Returns

Mark your calendars our annual Brick Street Burger Battle kicks off Friday, September 12th! Downtown restaurants will once again serve up their best burger creations in this five-week friendly competition, and we can’t wait to see what’s on the menu this year.

Old Town Rig Down

The 4th Annual Old Town Rig Down rolls into Downtown Nacogdoches on September 12–13, 2025! This nationally recognized big rig truck show features some of the biggest and boldest trucks from across the country.

Enjoy two full days of food, games, live music, a live auction, and family-friendly fun Saturday night features a powerhouse concert lineup with country artist Neal McCoy, followed by country hitmaker Aaron Watson.

Welcoming SFA Students Downtown – August 23

Downtown Nacogdoches is rolling out the red carpet for incoming SFA students this Saturday, August 23

From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., buses will run every 30 minutes from the SFA Student Center to the Farmers Market and Downtown Square.

Students will have the chance to shop local stores, grab lunch from food trucks, explore the Farmers Market, and take in the charm of historic downtown. It’s a great opportunity to showcase everything our district has to offer and make new Lumberjacks feel at home.

Bridging Borders: Music, Memory, and Culture. Amazing Kick off on Thursday, Concert to follow Friday evening at 7:00pm.

The first night of Texas Folklife’s Bridging Borders: Music, Memory & Culture brought together Rockin’ Doopsy Jr. and members of his band, Jesse Leger with a fellow musician, Dr Elisha Oliver (Director of Texas Folklife), and Sunny Sauceda (Director of Musical Heritage, Texas Folklife).

Together they shared the roots of Zydeco and Cajun music, demonstrating instruments, highlighting common misconceptions, and showing how both genres build from the same historic foundations while reflecting individual passion and style. The audience especially enjoyed Rockin’ Doopsy’s lively washboard performance and left eager for the full concert experience on Friday evening.

At the “Nac in a Nutshell” resource fair on Tuesday, August 26, from 6–8 p.m. at the Norton HPE Complex on the SFASU campus, Nac Historic Sites will be on hand to share information about the historic landmarks of Nacogdoches, as well as details on upcoming events and programs. It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with the rich heritage of the community.

Congratulations to Summer’s Books & Banter Book Club. On August 14, 2025, Summer’s Book Club celebrated their one year anniversary here at the NPL. The club has been gathering at the library, once a month - every second Thursday of the month - for entertaining discussions on recent reads. All are welcome.

Upcoming events at the library include: Family Card Night on Tuesday, August 19, 6 pm. The Family Card Night group has doubled in size since our first meeting so come out and show us your card skills. Open to all ages. The library will also be hosting 3 events for all teens Clay the Dragon is a two part teen art series event with day one beginning on August 19, 6 pm; and day two on August 21, 6 pm. For more information on the Clay the Dragon event please visit our library webpage. Also, the Animated Teen Book Club will meet this Friday, 22 August at 4:30 pm. The club has an open discussion forum so teens can share thoughts and ideas about any recent books they have read This group is open to all teens.

Public Works

Public Works crews are currently clearing the brush routes in zone 5 and zone 6.

Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.

Brush & Yard Waste Pickup

• Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street.

o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles.

o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter.

o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush.

o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up.

o Limbs should not extend into the roadway. Bagged yard waste

o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses.

o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection. Yard waste must be properly bagged.

o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week.

o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the:

-Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

The City of Nacogdoches will have a presence at the Nac in a Nutshell event this upcoming Tuesday, August 26, wherein the City PIO Kevin Meyer will be on hand to inform and help register people for NacWise and Nac311 He can also help residents with general interest questions.

Construction will begin on Monday, August 25 on a water line replacement on Martin Luther King, Jr Boulevard between Shawnee Street and E Main Street as part of the 2023-2024

CDBG MLK Water Line Replacement Project, weather-permitting Local traffic will be accommodated, however could expect delays. Thru traffic is encouraged to utilize alternate routes, as possible.

Work on the 2025 Street Paving Project will continue next week, weather-permitting, with patching and asphalt overlay on Arthur Weaver Street, Brown Street, Fox Street, Zula Street, Edgewood Drive, Rosewood Drive, Sharon Drive, Yolunda Street, Ila Street and Rob Lane. Local traffic will be accommodated, however could expect delays. Thru traffic is encouraged to utilize alternate routes, as possible.

Recreation Department

Today’s Flashback Fitness class is Jazz exercise starting at 5:30pm. This class is free, just register. Check out the other Flashback fitness classes offered every Friday in August. Each class will have a different theme and every class will have a “best dressed” contest for those wanting to really get into the theme.

We appreciate the patience as the recreation center had some painting improvements this week. Come check out the transformation.

Girls youth volleyball evaluations went well on Monday with a majority of the players attending. Practices will begin September 9th.

Fall adult coed soccer is open for registration Registration ends Sunday September 7th. Coed 30+ teams can register here.

Code Enforcement

Dear Resident of Nacogdoches,

This letter is a friendly notice that the City of Nacogdoches requires that the rolling trash cart for residential use only be present at the curb during certain hours (see below). Failure to comply with this ordinance may result in a fine or removal of the cart from the premises and suspension of your curbside collection service.

Sec. 82-97. - Schedule.

(b) Residential containers shall be placed at the curb line or within ten feet of edge of an uncurbed roadway between 6:00 p.m. on the day before collection and 7:00 am on the day of collection. Serviced containers must be removed from curb line on the day of service, no later than 7:00 p.m.

The Humane Society of Nacogdoches County (HSNC) is sponsoring fees on all approved adoptions from August 1st-16th. All adopters will receive the normal voucher for low cost spay or neuter.
