Community Happenings Another successful Blueberry Festival is in the books!

Thanks to everyone involved in organizing, set up and cleanup of this great event in downtown Nacogdoches.

Mark your calendars for Freedom Fest on July 4th! This firework show is put on by the Nacogdoches Jaycees and provides residents a chance to enjoy music, food, vendors and more! Check here for more information on the event.

Nacogdoches Main Street Star Spangled Storefronts Celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with Star-Spangled Storefronts!

Downtown businesses will decorate their windows with patriotic displays throughout July, and the community will vote for their favorites. Explore downtown, enjoy the creativity, and help choose the winners.

Voting takes place July 1st - 31st Winners announced August 4th Brick Street Burger Battle The Brick Street Burger Battle returns this fall, bringing another season of one-of-akind burgers and friendly competition to Downtown Nacogdoches.

From September 11 through October 25, participating restaurants will serve specialty burgers created just for the challenge. Customers will rate each restaurant they visit and help decide who will earn the title of 2026 Burger Battle Champion.

Friday Update Nacogdoches Historic Sites Blueberry Crafts and Food Demonstration at the Durst-Taylor House On Saturday, in honor of the Texas Blueberry Festival, Nacogdoches Historic Sites hosted blueberry-themed crafts and a historic food demonstration at the DurstTaylor House. The food demonstration focused on pemmican, a nutrient-rich preserved food that helped sustain travelers and explorers in earlier times.

Historic Sites staff worked on a variety of projects this week to ensure our sites remain welcoming and well cared for.

At the Durst-Taylor House, the gardens are in full bloom this time of year. Museum assistants worked alongside our City Gardener to keep weeds under control, refresh mulch where needed, and make sure the gardens stay watered and healthy.

At Zion Hill, Site Coordinator Krysten Sexton spent the week preparing for an upcoming wedding rental. A great deal of work goes into making sure the site is ready for these special events, and we are grateful to our Parks and Cemetery staff for their help preparing the grounds.

As staff continue work on the Zion Hill exhibit, we met with former congregation members Tuesday evening to gather feedback, learn more about the church’s history, and verify details that will be included in the exhibit.

Museum assistants have also been hard at work resetting the Sterne-Hoya House following completed maintenance work. We hope to have the site reopened and ready to welcome visitors again in the coming weeks.

Friday Update Nacogdoches Public Library The library staff held several programs during the second week of the Unearth a Story Summer Reading. Participants enjoyed a Dinosaur Dig, puzzle trade, a blueberry fudge making class, and dinosaur trivia. It is not too late to sign up and track reading and program attendance by visiting nactx.us/library.

The children’s department received several updates this week, including wall art, new furniture, and the arrival of the parent workstation! Come visit the library!

The library staff be part of the Juneteenth Festival on Saturday, June 20th at Festival Park. The event is from 10am to 1pm.

Friday Update Public Works Public Works crews are currently clearing the brush route with one truck in zone 6 and one in zone 19.

Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.

Brush & Yard Waste Pickup • Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street. o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles. o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter. o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush. o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up. o Limbs should not extend into the roadway.

Bagged yard waste o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses. o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection.

Yard waste must be properly bagged. o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week. o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the: -Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

Running of the Blueberries The Running of the Blueberries on Saturday was successful with a record 523 runners. A big thank you to all of the sponsors, Carr, Riggs, & Ingram, Fitness 360, East TX Vet/ North Street Veterinary, Cross Fit Nac, Petsense, Lucky Pup Bakery and the Fredonia Hotel. Also a big thank you to the SFA police for helping with the crossing at College Dr. and all the volunteers that made this event possible!
