Community Happenings Paving of North Street is underway as TxDOT has stripped the asphalt layers from King Street down to around Bowie Street. Word is being conducted mostly at night to avoid major traffic issues.

The Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Lufkin District will hold a virtual public meeting with an in-person option about the latest Rural Transportation Improvement Program (Rural TIP) this month. Lufkin District residents are invited to attend the in-person meeting at the district headquarters at 1805 N. Timberland Drive in Lufkin from 4 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, or to review the material online at TxDOT.gov.

Friday Update Municipal Court Warrant Forgiveness Program The Nacogdoches Municipal Court is offering a warrant forgiveness program.

Through this program, all warrant fees will be removed when a citizen voluntarily contacts the court to pay a minimum of onehalf the total amount due and start a payment plan for the balance owed. Anyone that chooses to pay their fine and court costs in full will save an additional 20% off the fine amount. The court will also offer assistance to individuals that may not be able to pay half down or pay in full to work out an agreeable action plan. This program will be available February through April.

Anyone that comes to the court to resolve their outstanding warrants will be given safe harbor.

Friday Update Nacogdoches Historic Sites SFA students volunteer at Sterne-Hoya for Big Event This past Saturday, students from SFA participated in a city-wide volunteer program called Big Event.

Alpha Chi Omega students spent Saturday morning cleaning the grounds, windows and siding of the Sterne-Hoya House in preparation for reopening to the public.

Texas Comedies returns to Zion Hill this May for “The Crash at Crush: Musical Comedy” Friends of Historic Nacogdoches, Inc. invites you to enjoy a new musical comedy, “The Crash at Crush,” performed by Austin-based performance group, Texas Comedies.

The Crash at Crush is based on an incredible true story of a staged train crash near the temporary town of Crush, TX. Spurred by bankruptcy, bizarre railroad employees, and the Ringling Brothers Circus, William Crush created an explosive new form of mass entertainment in the form of a staged train crash.

Join in the music, laughter, and lively performance on Friday, May 15th, 2026, at 7:00 pm at Zion Hill Historic Site at 324 N. Lanana St. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Zion Hill or online at eventbrite.com starting April 1st. This performance is free for members of Friends of Historic Nacogdoches, Inc.

Friday Update Public Works Public Works crews are currently clearing the leaf route in zone 6 and the brush route in zone 21.

Citizens can still haul their brush and bagged lawn debris for unlimited free dumps to the City Landfill located at 4602 N.W. Stallings Dr., with their City of Nacogdoches issued water bill and ID/DL showing proof of residence.

Brush & Yard Waste Pickup • Tree limbs and brush shall be stacked on street right-of-ways, or within 3 to 6 feet of the curb or street. o Stacks shall not exceed 6'L X 4'W X 4'H and be limited to three piles. o The maximum diameter of the largest limb shall not exceed 12 inches in diameter. o Brush must be stacked in front of the residence that generated the brush. o Brush placed on vacant lots or in the streets will not be picked up. o Limbs should not extend into the roadway.

Bagged yard waste o Bagged yard waste collection is "ONLY" available for residential addresses. o Bagged yard waste shall be placed within ten feet of the edge of the roadway for collection.

Yard waste must be properly bagged. o The city will only collect 20 bags per residence per week. o Bagged Yard Waste may also be disposed of at the City landfill, for no charge, provided that the: -Resident provide current copy of water bill & drivers license as proof of residence.

NIGHT PAVING - Nacogdoches Nighttime paving operations on US 59 Business (BU 59)/North Street in Nacogdoches is ongoing.

This is a continuation of the mill-and-inlay project that began in 2025 when BU 59 between State Highway 21 (SH 21) and State Loop 224 (SL 224) was repaved.

Engineering/Public Works If you've driven down North Street in the past few days, you've probably noticed some patches of brick poking through the remaining asphalt, having been exposed as TxDOT begins repaving of North Street. This brick layer is estimated to have been installed around 1913 and is likely seeing the light of day for the first time in decades since it was first covered with asphalt by TxDOT.

This Saturday is the last Spring Fitness in the park. Yoga will be at 10:00am at Banita Creek Park. Free mini-class! Be sure to bring your own yoga mat and join us to see what it’s all about!

Summer camp is just around the corner. We have revamped our summer camp and will be able to accommodate more participants this year. Registration for Summer Camp will open May 1st.

Corporate Challenge 2026 kicks off on Monday, March 30th with the trivia event. City employees will compete against 12 other Nacogdoches companies in 14 different events.

Last Saturday’s Community Clean Up Day at Mill Pond Park was a success! This was a Partnership Event with SFA Big Event, Code Enforcement, Public Works and Parks. Volunteers picked up trash and community members brought trash to be disposed of. 2 ½ dumpsters were filled, approximately 30 cars arrived to dispose of trash, and enough tires to fill 1 dumpster.
