Police Department

Operation Slowdown is happening now!

The Nacogdoches Police Department is participating in Operation Slowdown, a statewide enforcement effort supported by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). From July 18 to August 3, 2025, our officers will be increasing patrols and focusing on speed enforcement throughout the city. Our goal: reduce dangerous driving and prevent crashes before they happen.

Speeding is one of the leading causes of serious and fatal crashes in Texas. Every mile over the speed limit increases the risk to you, your passengers, and everyone around you.

This enforcement effort is about protecting our community. Our officers will be actively monitoring for speeders and unsafe driving behaviors in high-traffic areas. We’re committed to keeping our roads and our families safe.

Let’s work together, Nacogdoches. Slow down. Buckle up. Arrive alive.

Fire Department

Training Notice

Starting tonight and into early next week Nacogdoches Fire & Rescue will be conducting multiple training sessions at East College Cafeteria at SFA from around 6-10 PM. Emergency vehicles should not impede traffic as they will be stationed on the South side of the old cafeteria. This is not an emergency and should be similar to the trainings conducted at the Forestry Building earlier this year.

We want to say thank you to Stephen F. Austin State University for allowing us to once again conduct this invaluable training! Having the opportunity to work together as a team in a non-emergency setting allows us to improve our strategies for when the time actually comes. We always appreciate your cooperation and enthusiasm in helping us be a better fire department for you and the rest of our community.

Code Enforcement

The City of Nacogdoches Code Enforcement Staff has witnessed many of the Lawn Maintenance Companies blowing grass clippings into the City Streets.

This is a friendly reminder to some & to serve notice to any New Lawn Care Business, that this is a violation of our City Ordinance:

Section 82-6 Acts declared trespasses or nuisance, for the act of permitting the Disposal of Lawn Debris onto public property.

While doing yard work, please do not blow or direct grass clippings, leaves or debris into any city street or public storm drain. This is dangerous, a traffic safety issue, and the debris contributes to the clogging of city storm water drain systems.

Please see ordinance as stated below:

Sec. 82-6. - Acts declared trespasses or nuisances. The following acts by any person are hereby declared to be unlawful as trespasses or public nuisances:

(1) Placing, depositing, dumping or throwing, or permitting or causing to be placed, deposited, thrown, or to remain, any garbage, refuse, dead animals, building wastes, or any other discarded materials on any of the following property:

b. Lots or land, vacant or occupied.

c. Any gutter, street, sidewalk, parkway, driveway, curb, alley or any other public property.

(2) Permitting any garbage or refuse to remain on private property, or on streets or other property in the vicinity. The person occupying the property shall collect and dispose of any such garbage or refuse that is on the property or on streets or other property in the vicinity of his business, regardless of the means by which such garbage or refuse came to occupy the property

(3) Causing or permitting to be or to remain in or upon any premises, public or private, any garbage, or animal, vegetable, or mineral matter, or any composition or residue thereof, that is in an unsanitary condition or injurious to public health or that emanates offensive or obnoxious odors

4) Permitting containers, bottles, tires, grass, or other vegetation to grow or to remain on lots or land, vacant or occupied, or upon any abutting sidewalk, curb or street, so as to become offensive or emanate offensive or obnoxious odors, or become a breeding place for flies or insects, or become in any way injurious to the public health.
