Selling Points

• Sophomore release, and follow-up to critically acclaimed Awake You Sleepers! • Recently featured on viral hit cartoon Cyanide & Happiness, with over two million views. • Discovered by Sloan’s Murderecords label. • Have shared stages with Sloan, Dan Mangan, Cloud Nothings, Hot Panda, and more. • RIYL: Rufus Wainwright, Patrick Wolf, Badly Drawn Boy, Antony and the Johnsons, Ben Folds.

Originally formed as a one-time-only opening act for Tokyo Police Club at a show in Toronto, Will Currie & The Country French ended up releasing three critically-acclaimed albums before going on an extended hiatus. But when the creative team of hit viral cartoon Cyanide & Happiness commissioned Will to write what they called “the saddest song in the world,” there was an overwhelming response from C&H fans looking for more! The result is They Killed Us, a blurred combination of pop and symphonic music, and an unabashedly autobiographical account of the band’s quiet years after 2011’s Awake, You Sleepers!

“Rejoice! This is the pop record for those who thought pop was a dead art … brings to mind some brilliant alliance between Ben Folds and They Might Be Giants.”

“An undeniably addictive listen.”

GROUND CONTROL “For fans of Elton John, Wilco, and Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem.”

“Haynes (who is also heard on cornet and flugelhorn) and his two colleagues thrive on intellectual abstraction; it isn’t the bombastic, hatchet-wielding abstraction of Coltrane circa 1966, but it is abstraction nonetheless. And the threesome’s abstraction yields satisfying results.”

New Atlantis is proud to present the latest offering from the vanguard guitar duo of Elliott Sharp and Scott Fields! Where previous outings for Clean Feed and NEOS saw the duo wrangling complex timbres and tonalities from acoustic instruments, Akra Kampoj finds the guitarists coaxing an incomprehensible range of dynamic, angular tones and textures from electric guitars. These massively influential, pioneering avant-guitar skronk virtuosos ably blur the lines between free improvisation and new music, coaxing an unparalleled range of harmonic abstractions. This is unhinged, blistering guitar improvisation, executed with expert precision by longtime veterans and founding figures in the avant-garde underground.

Written for ten classical instruments, this is the first solo release of Kuba Kapsa, mastermind of the avant-jazz combo Contemporary Noise Sextet. An ingenious album inspired by the works of classical minimalists, Vantdraught 10 was written for four violins, two violas, cello, vibraphone, marimba, and piano. The music is largely based on a repetition of individual melodic motifs, which are also quite multi-threaded within a given composition. The common feature of every composition is symmetry, which has been applied to almost every aspect: rhythm, harmony, motifs, and themes.

Ah! Kosmos is the moniker of Istanbul-based producer and instrumentalist Basak Gunak, whose debut Flesh was released in her native country in 2013. Alongside the release of Bastards in April 2015, Denovali Records is proud to reissue Flesh, available for the first time on a worldwide scale — and on vinyl! Echoing and bouncing off the surfaces, nuanced metallic droplets of synth-triggered sound interact with moody, sustained down-tempo beats and unholy choral voices. From the mysterious catacombs and imagined otherworldly terrains of Istanbul, oozes the enlightened cosmic union of analog and electronic. Two years after the release of Flesh, Ah! Kosmos is proud to announce her self-produced full-length debut for Denovali Records! Spaced-out layers of beats and blissed-out sounds and textures create a sense of slow, echoing wonder that eventually builds to a multi-rhythmic universe of its own. Supporting the likes of Darkside, James Holden, Kiasmos, Two Door Cinema Club, Emika, and Daddy G (Massive Attack) in her hometown of Istanbul, Ah! Kosmos has performed at festivals including Rock’n Coke, Babylon Soundgarden, Venice Electro Festival, Budapest Punkurica Festival, and more.

Stranded in Fremantle, Western Australia and previously known as Streaky Jake and Swoop Swoop, Celery is the current side project of Sean Gorman from amorous Perth band The Shops. The band’s selftitled debut album was recorded in a sundry of vague rooms around the Fremantle traps, and is influenced by a black swan dive into the nectarous delight of classic drum machine and synthetic bass samples. The resultant sun-and-breeze-blasted yoke has unfolded into a sugary blissful mess. “Gritty charm … Gorman’s evocative voice draws humor, insight, and pathos in spades from his quiet meditations on love, sin, death, and regret.” — BROOKLYN COLLECTIVE Track Listing: I Swore • What’s Happening • You Don’t Know My Style • Washing • Upside Down Island • Self Medication • What You’re Doing • My Skin Is Gone • Easy • Wipeouts • In The Shade • Sans Tears • Like Nothing • Beyond Key Markets: Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Omaha, Chicago, Philadelphia, Madison, Athens, Austin, New York, Brooklyn, Boston, Rhode Island, New Jersey, New Orleans, Pittsburgh

Chainsheart are a classic hard rock/heavy metal band from Cyprus comprised of seasoned musicians, all of whom are extremely passionate rockers. Chainsheart was formed in 2011 as the solo project of vocalist Yiannis Savva, who soon decided to form a band. In late 2012 the band released their first album Just Another Day, a pure hard rock album. However, after going through several line-up changes, Chainsheart finally found its true sound and style: classic heavy metal! Now back with their second album, Leaving Planet Hell, Chainsheart present a CD filled with anthemic heavy metal tunes, melodic lines, energy, and passion. Make no mistake: fists will be up high and the head-banging will be non-stop! Track Listing: Soul Kingdom • Breeze • Flames That Rise • Mystery • Final Destination • Return to the Stage • Points of You • Never Stand Still • Dangerous Drop • Journey • The Spell Key Markets: New York, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis, Boston

De Doden Hebben het Goed is Wiegedood’s debut album, but we can hardly call this a debuting band as the members have already proven their worth in acts like Amenra, Oathbreaker, Hessian, and Rise and Fall. Against all expectations, the result of this collaboration has nothing to do with post metal, sludge, or hardcore. Instead, Wiegedood treats us to a relentless onslaught of atmospheric black metal. The music might be categorized in the vein of the Cascadian Black Metal wave from the U.S., but they bring a European twist into the mix. Monnik (“monk”) is an apt moniker for this Belgian-based experimental one-man band. Monnik wants to explore the boundaries of spiritual isolation, making his musical drones almost ascetic meditations. Layer upon layer of sounds and textures evoke an almost shamanistic — if not religious — atmosphere, in order to captivate the audience. After having crafted his musical explorations for years, and testing them on numerous live occasions, the time is finally right to officially release his debut. Vondeling (“foundling”) is comprised of two long tracks, ranging from vulnerable ambient to harsher droning sounds. These dynamics hint at Monnik’s fascination for shamanistic and tribal traditions as well as the uncompromising “wall of sound” of the no-wave scene. The remarkably mature output of a very promising one-man soundscaper!

“The Rezillos have lost little in terms of sweaty, cranky boogie-rock ferver that they and The Cramps helped put on the map. The vocal harmonies, filthy guitar solos and playful zaniness are as shit-sharp as they were when punk still had training wheels.”

NAIL NEWS & REVIEWS “As a member of the New Pornographers and former lead singer of Immaculate Machine, Kathryn Calder deserves to take a victory lap. She sang one of our favorite songs from last year, not to mention co-writing our No. 10 album of 2014, and her new selftitled solo album promises lots of lovely synth-driven power pop.”

“Ethereal.”

“Calder hangs out in the background and plays all the cool synthy shit at The New Pornographers’ gigs. She’s kinda like Eno in Roxy Music.”

“When she’s not performing with the New Pornographers, singer-keyboardist and former Immaculate Machine member Kathryn Calder enjoys a beloved solo career.”
