YEAR LEARNING LEADERS– DROP IN SURGERIES Year 7 and Year 8 Friday 18 July between 8.30 a.m and 9.30 a.m with Mr Mercer and Mr Parke These are for parents who would like to discuss any concerns relating to their child. No appointment is necessary but please be prepared to wait. Future dates for other year groups will be confirmed shortly. No more surgeries are planned this year with other year groups, but please feel free to contact our Pastoral Assistant, Mrs C Jepson (C.Jepson@allhallows.org.uk 01625 426138 ex215), should you require an appointment with a Year Learning Leader.
PRINCIPALS SURGERY Parents / carers are invited to attend a Principal’s Surgery to discuss any concerns or ask questions, on the following dates Tuesday 1 July, 3.30pm – 4.30pm Tuesday 8 July, 9am – 10am There is no appointment system so please be prepared to wait SPECIALISM SUCCESS Celebrating bi-lingualism. Michal Sienko, Aleksandra Walicka, Julia Rosinska, all in year 10 should all be commended for completing their GCSE Polish speaking test. Five bilingual students have prepared a bidding prayer in their home language which will be shared at our feast day masses. This is a good opportunity to celebrate the richness of linguistic talent within the All Hallows Community. PENTCOST As in previous years we are adopting Pentecost, the birth of the Church, as the opportunity in which to celebrate the foundation of All Hallows Catholic College. On Monday June 9 (the day after Pentecost Sunday),Years 7 and 8 will be escorted by their teachers down to St. Albans RC Church, Macclesfield, for the celebration of a special All Hallows Feast day Mass at 1.45 pm. Following the downpour three years ago, we strongly recommend that all students bring with them some form of coat, rainwear or umbrella for the walk to and from the church.Students going to St Albans, will be back to the College in time for buses etc. Earlier in the day, Mass will be celebrated in the College Hall for Years 9 & 10. PARENTS AS PARTNERS: COLLEGE BAGS Can parents please make sure that there Child has the appropriate College bag with the College logo. These are available at Finesse ECO FACT Recycled cans can be used to make cars and planes. COMMUNITY MASS All Hallows Chapel every Friday 9am-9.45am Parents/Carers/Parishioners are all welcome
PARENTS AS PARTNERS: JUMPERS A reminder to all parents that jumpers must continue to be worn. If the weather does become warm then we will give permission to remove blazers and jumpers
CAREERS ADVICE FOR STUDENTS Our new careers advisor, Mrs Jean Pilling, has now seen 185 students for impartial careers interviews since she started in mid-December - 16% of the whole College. If any parents would like their son or daughter to have a careers interview this year then please notify the relevant Year Leader who can ensure names are added to the list. Priority is now with Year 10 who will all be seen over the coming weeks and months. She will also see some Year 9 students over the next few weeks. She has a drop in on Thursday lunchtime for students of any year.
ALL HALLOWS IS AGAINST BULLYING We would like to remind students and parents that our website has links to an anti-bullying email service. bullying@allhallowslearning.org.uk is the email address that can be used to confidentially report incidents of bullying to a senior teacher. Students are also encouraged to report bullying to their form tutor and Year Learning Leader. The College is pleased to announce that in May 2014 we become a Stonewall Champion School and will work with students to tackle homophobic bullying. Our Principal has now delivered anti-homophobic assemblies to all of our students and Mr Blades attended a Stonewall Conference in London where we became a Champion School. Mr Blades will give more details to students in due course, but in the meantime students, as well as parents and staff, are welcome to support the Stonewall No Bystanders Campaign. We would also like to thank our College Council for their powerful anti-bullying video they have recently produced. Each year our College Council do a large scale bullying prevention event across All Hallows and this year's video is certainly impressive. In the past they have organised on line pledge against bullying and even had a airplane fly over the College at the same time our students were on the fields spelling out the words All Hallows is against Bullying. E-SAFETY FOCUS GROUP We would like to set up an E-Safety focus group of parents. This will involve 3 meetings a year where we will look at E-Safety and identify any risks. We will then develop actions that we can implement to minimise the risks. Can you help us secure additional funding to help our children achieve their full potential? From April 2014, schools in England are entitled to receive a grant called the 'pupil premium for children adopted from care or who left care under a Special Guardianship Order (SGO) on or after 30 December 2005.' Schools can also claim the pupil premium for children who left care under a Residence Order (RO) on or after 14 October 1991. In order to claim this valuable grant, we would be grateful if adoptive parents could inform the college if their child is adopted and provide supporting evidence, for example, the Adoption (Court) Order. This information will be dealt with discretely and confidentially and the grants will be used to help this particular group of children achieve their potential in their education. Year 11 will not appear on future newsletter statistics due to now being on official study leave.
This was a disappointing way to end the term. The average for the week was 92.8% (down 2.1% on the previous week). Since 3rd September attendance has remained at 95.5%. We aim for 97%. Last week GIRLS attendance has decreased 2.0% to 92.2%, BOYS attendance has decreased 2.1% to 93.6%. Since 3rd September boys are winning girls 96.1% to 94.9%. Holiday absence from College Holidays have not been authorised since 1st September 2013 under new legislation on all English schools. Requests for holidays must still be made in writing to the appropriate Key Stage leader (Mrs Garvey KS5, Mr Blades KS4 and Mr Diamond KS3), but in the vast majority of cases they will be unauthorised. A Fixed Penalty Notice may be issued of £60 per parent / carer per student, to be paid within 21 days, otherwise the penalty will rise to £120 per parent / carer to be paid within 28 days. If the penalty remains unpaid then the matter will proceed to the Magistrates Court where you will receive a criminal record if you are found guilty. Medical absence from College Whilst the College requires parents to contact us on each day of absence , school policy now requires that any student who accumulates 7 or more days of absence during the course of the academic year will be asked to provide medical confirmation of the need to be absent before any further absences are authorised for medical reasons. This is a necessary measure as we closely monitor absence due to illness / medical reasons in order that we can ensure students are supported where needed. ST ALBANS COMMUNITY EVENT
Annual parish hog roast, which this year is in aid of the “Just Drop In” centre in Macclesfield – a charitable organisation giving advice, support and counselling to young people from age 13 upwards. The hog roast will be held on Sunday 20th July, from 1pm, at 148 Prestbury Rd, Macclesfield. Cost is £5 adults, £2 children. All welcome. We would be grateful for people to bring a salad or a pudding (there will be a list up at the back of church nearer the time). Please BYO drinks and chairs.
