St John’s Children Busy Bees! Its been a really busy year at St Johns. We have filled more than 4,000 exercise books, used more than 2,800 pencils and 400 glue sticks. We haven’t just been doing English and Maths, just look at all the other things we have been getting up to! Its really hard to pick a highlight of the year. There have been so many thing to celebrate.
Infants became dinosaur detectives and found out all about palaeontology.
Year 5-6 wowed us with their version of Robin Hood. What a way to end a fantastic year.
Miss Taylor’s dance group took part in the Arts Festival at AHCC and amazed us with their skills. They were definitely born to dance!
Year 4 children performed alongside the high school pupils in the Lion King and boy did they make us proud.
Reception held their very own Wedding bride, groom, vicar and guests We held an exhibition of all the children’s art work. They really are talented.
We went on visits and had visitors to inspire us in our learning The infants dressed up and visited Tatton Hall. They played the part of the servants and masters in Victorian times. They were very glad to come back and not have to keep scrubbing floors and cleaning shoes.!
We took Reception to Stoke to take part in a HUGE concert celebrating Barney Bear. They sang and played their socks off.
Year 5-6 saw a Horrible Histories performance of Groovy Greeks.
Year 6 went on a residential to Manor Adventure and spent the week taking part in adventure activities like canoeing, climbing and caving. It’s amazing how much they learned about themselves and just what they are capable of .
The whole school danced and sang.
Year 3-4 were visited by Clud a man from Neolithic times. He taught the children amazing facts about life in his time.
Year 3-4 had an explosive day out at Manchester Museum of Science and Industry.
The Art club added to the underpass in town with their very own designs.
Year 4 Played the Bridgewater Hall with the Halle Orchestra.
Key Strings came along and we got to play some really big instruments. Some of them were bigger than the children.
The Pop Project entertained the whole school with a show all about British Values.We sang and danced all afternoon. Pre school came too.

Year 1-2 found out all about looking after animals and had lost of visitors, including a guide dog.
Curriculum Focus Weeks
There was so much to fit in!
In Theme week we celebrated the Queen as the longest serving monarch.
In Science week we:
We found out about her palaces and all the ceremonies she takes part in.
Visited the high school science labs and carried out experiments with bunsen burners
In the juniors each class took a different decade and found out about all the things that happened.
In school we found out about changing materials and made bouncy balls from liquids.
We investigated fossils and discovered a dinosaur egg on the playground.
We experimented with forces and raced balloons.
We found out all about chromatography.
Rebecca Adlington came to school. She inspired us with tales of her Olympic success.
In World book week we all shared the Book Dreams of Freedom.
We wrote letters to Malala
Yousafzai.
We found out about Nelson Mandela and made information posters about him.
Some of the teachers were even old enough too remember the events first hand!
We talked about equal rights and designed posters to promote equality.
Year 3-4 bounced on a space hopper.
We learned about Democracy and voted in class.
Year 5-6 made Tie Dye T shirts.
Whilst Reception tried their hand at marching like the Queen’s Guards.
We learned about Project Paddington and thought about what it was like to be a refugee.
Year 1-2 had a party to celebrate the Queens birthday.
We gave thanks for our Freedoms.
We thought about other people. There has been lots of fundraising this year.
We held a Macmillan Coffee afternoon and raised £257.20
We collected 115 boxes for Operation Christmas Child.
We raised £251.00 for Sport Relief.
Bringing our Teddy to school we rasied £264.50 for the Tearfund -Paddington charity.
We had a week making things to sell for Children in Need .We raised £472.95
We took part in an enterprise project and raised £158.78 for Cancer Research.
Year 3-4 Made cakes and sweets and sold them to raise money for a Romanian Charity to build houses in poverty stricken areas. Raising £163.08
We dressed in our PJs for Comic Relief, raised money for Crisis the homeless charity and also fund raised for East Cheshire Hospice.
We collected lots of Harvest gifts for the local food bank.

After school clubs ran every night of the week. Even after a busy school day they were always full. We took part in clubs for Science Cross Country Choir Art Homework Recorder Netball Rounders Football (girls and boys infant and junior) Cricket
Dance Tag Rugby Tennis Grammar Maths Athletics French Circuits and fitness
Gymnastics Run to Rio
We were pretty good at a lot of these sports too. We took part in lots of inter schools competitions.
Y3-4 Girls football winners, we also got to the county finals.
Cheshire Cup football runners up.
Athletics district finals 4th.
Cross country championships 4th
We took part in lots of competitions with the other schools in the All Hallows learning community

Run To Rio We took up Mr Sivewright’ s challenge to run to Rio . Everyday children ran at least a mile to cover the 5800 miles before the games started. It sparked lots of interest in the press and the Local authority set up the challenge in other schools in Cheshire East too . WE DID IT.
We took part in running events with Ben Smith who was running 401 marathons to raise awareness of anti bullying campaigns .
They have been so busy, I think it’s time for a holiday. Don’t forget we finish on FRIDAY 22nd July and return to school on Wednesday 7th September. Have a great Summer ! Mrs Waites.
