College Prayer Prayer for St. George's Day Heavenly Father, give us the bravery of St George to stand up for the truth and the glory of God that we have seen in the face of Jesus Christ.

Give us the strength to overcome in our lives and in the world, all that is contrary to your rule of justice and love.

Help us to be good news to the poor, proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind; let the oppressed go free, and proclaim the good news of God’s favour and Jubilee.

Prayer focus: The right use of media

Specialism Success All Year 11 Students came into College on Parent consultation Day (20 April) and worked on the ECDL qualification in ICT. They are now prepared for the unit exams on 4 May on using spreadsheets and improving productivity .

Parents as Partners Parents please note the minimum recommended age for various social media platforms. Please note that the recommended minimum age for all platforms is 13. Please support the College in not allowing any child under 13 access to any social media. Over 13, it is clearly discretionary whether or not parents allow children access to social media. However, it is not compulsory to have social media! Many people get by just fine in life without it. In fact in the view of the College 13 is still too young for many of the platforms and it is hard to justify an actual need for social media for any child. Please monitor your child's use of digital technology closely and particularly social media which are vulnerable to cyber bullying and other more sinister forms of misuse such as trolling, grooming or impersonation. Please go to the Safeguarding and Support section of the website for more information about e-safety.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS Over the last week of College attendance was as follows: Year 7 - 95.2% (down 1.7% on last week) Year 8 - 94.9% (down 1.0%) Year 9 - 95.4% (up 1.3%) Year 10 - 94.6% (up 0.4%) Year 11 -95.1% (up 0.2%) Year 12 - 96.4% (up 2.4%) Year 13 - 90.9% (down 1.9%) This was a mixed week for College attendance, with Year 9 and Year 12 leading the way with weekly improvements.

Attendance between Year 7 and Year 11 last week was 95.1% (no change on the previous week and 0.3% higher than the same time last year). Since September our overall attendance across Year 7 to Year 11 remains at 95.4%. We aim for 97% attendance.

Last week GIRLS attendance (Years 7-11) was 95.3% (up 1.3%), BOYS attendance (Years 7-11) was 94.8% (down 1.4%). Well done girls last week. Since the start of September Year 7-11 girls attendance is 95.0% and boys attendance is 95.7%. The gap between girls and boys is 0.7%.

Please note that from 1 January 2017 the College has a new attendance policy in force. This can be viewed on our website with changes highlighted in yellow.

Being Punctual At All Hallows Most students appreciate the importance of being in College on time. Children who are regularly late do miss out on their education and form bad habits that will not be tolerated in the workplace.

We need to inform parents that students must be in the registration form class for the register to be taken at 8.45a.m. This means students should arrive 5-10 minutes earlier in College to be on time.

Summer Reading

Challenge Macclesfield Library (and other Cheshire East Library branches) are looking for volunteers aged 13 - 24 to help out with the annual Summer Reading. It is an ideal opportunity to get experience of working with young people. Revision Guides The library has just taken delivery of range of study guides for a wide variety of GCSE and A Level subjects. The books will be reference only meaning they will only be available to use in the library so they can be used by as many students as possible. More details will be sent out to form tutors next week.

Author of the Month for April - Tom Palmer http://tompalmer.co.uk/ Tom Palmer is an award winning writer whose novels focus on sport and war - sometimes both together in the same book! He has also written a number of dyslexic friendly books.

This week's recommend read is Foul Play the first in a series about talented football and amateur sleuth, Danny Harte. A real page turner with plenty of twist to keep the reader guessing!

We regularly reward students who are successful on our Accelerated Reader Scheme in a number of ways. Our newest reward is a half termly prize 'It’s late at night. Active Kids Vouchers We are still collecting the Sainsbury's Active Kids vouchers, so students should bring them to the library where we have a collection box.

Book Amnesty We are still missing a number of fiction books, many of which are new and would like them back as we have students waiting to ready them. Therefore, if you have any at home, please send them in. No questions asked!

Online Resources We now have a number of links to useful online resources that can be found in the Library Folder which is within the Subjects Folder on the All Programs menu. This can be found by clicking on the Windows button on the school desktop.

Our newest resource is The Day, a news focussed website that collects articles into subject areas, including articles in French, German and Spanish. It is a great way to keep up to date and research current issues as well.

A Level Review Magazine Archive - online resource for 6th form students We now have a link to a the magazine archive for the Hodder review magazines that are aimed specifically at 6th form students, covering key topics and exam advice in a variety of A level subjects. Information about the archive has been sent to all form and subject teachers. If students want any help with accessing it or using the features, then they should call into the library.
