Mission Statement Mount de Sales Academy, an independent Catholic school, sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, is a diverse college preparatory community of learners - students and teachers alike - who are poised to discover, challenged to innovate, and motivated to serve.
Greetings Cavalier Family, We have seen two straight years of enrollment growth and historic levels of investment in the Cavaliers. This tells a story. It’s a story of a school community that came together to honor 150 years of tradition and honestly and prayerfully decide how we can, as I like to say, “bring the school into the 21st century.” What I mean by this is taking the time to evaluate all of our programs and spaces and then make investments to ensure our bright future. Together, your partnership has allowed us to do everything from necessary repairs to more than six of our buildings, to the creation of our sports performance center and golf simulator. We have provided students with more indoor and outdoor gathering spaces, all-new computers in our lab and panels in our middle school classrooms and much more. Our university-level lights and sound at Mike Garvin Stadium in addition to our new parking lot lights have allowed us to better showcase and support our Cavaliers. We will continue all of this work and we are committed to providing the most beautiful and inspirational environment for our students. To our amazing parents, families, alumni, donors and friends, thank you for believing in the Cavaliers and for cheering us on in person or from afar. There is so much to celebrate. We are in this position because of our second-to-none faculty and staff and your partnership with us all in the formation of the Cavaliers. Our Cavaliers are achieving at the highest levels and they are becoming people who know what Mercy looks like in action. As we answer Christ’s call to serve, please know how important you are to our shared mission. Thank you and GO CAVS!
Forever de Sales,

32 Years of Service at Mou nt de Sales Academy.
Mr. Bartlett began his journey with Mount de Sales in 2004. Mrs. Katie Prebble hired Mr. Bartlett to welcome the sixth-grade class to MDS alongside Mrs. Mixon. Mr. Bartlett’s ties to Mount de Sales actually began earlier through his wife, Dr. Maria Bartlett, who graduated in 1975. He fondly remembers going through his First Holy Communion with his son, David, who graduated in 2005. A wise man, Mr. Bartlett taught every subject at some point in the middle school (except science). He coached golf for upwards of ten years and led the Quiz Bowl team to victory nearly ten times. But his favorite class he ever taught was his eighth-grade Leadership Class. Students developed skills to prepare them for the business world, such as shaking hands and holding a professional conversation. Students also took a psychological test to learn how to read people. In this class, students discovered their power and how to carry themselves with confidence. Mr. Bartlett shared, “If the students believe that Mount de Sales can do what they say they can do for them, you get to witness remarkable growth in confidence and character in these kids. When the kids buy in, it becomes a phenomenal group and they find their power.” Mr. Bartlett refuses to take credit for his students' success, but his guidance helped many young people at MDS graduate with poise and encouragement to hold their heads a little higher. Mr. Bartlett’s classes were filled with joy and laughter. He had a special way of connecting to the middle school students. He’s notorious for the infamous “mayonnaise story,” and if you don’t know it, ask a former classmate to share it. For Mr. Bartlett, working at Mount de Sales was a calling, not a job: “When you see the kids are really ‘buying in’ to your class, that’s the fun part; that’s when it definitely is not a job then. That’s what you do it for. That’s what I do it for.” Although Mr. Bartlett is retired from MDS, he hasn't left us in the dust. He’s heavily involved in supporting the Quiz Bowl club and frequents several MDS events, including our annual golf tournament. He jokes that having the summers off as a teacher were his annual two months to practice retirement. But in all seriousness, it was easier for him to step away knowing several of the students he taught now serve on staff; the school is in good hands. Meanwhile, he has a to-do list from his wife that, he says, will never be finished while also enjoying time with his grandchildren.
For Amy, Mount de Sales Academy has always been more than a school. It is her alma mater, a place where she built lasting relationships, devoted years of service, and made a difference in the lives of countless students and colleagues. Amy Brantley graduated from Mount de Sales Academy in 1978. She was working at a law office when Sr. Rosina offered her a position as the school registrar. Mrs. Brantley was eager to return to the place that had helped shape her. It was an opportunity to come home. Throughout her years at Mount de Sales, Mrs. Brantley has been known for her hard work, humility, and willingness to help wherever it was needed. She has served the school with a quiet dedication that speaks volumes about her character and her love for the MDS community. As Melanie Bentley shared, “Amy is one of the kindest people I have ever worked with. There is nothing she wouldn’t do to help you. Her love for Mount de Sales is obvious in all that she does.” That love extended beyond the daily responsibilities of her work. Amy also had the opportunity to accompany students on several international educational trips, helping them experience the world beyond the classroom. These trips created lasting memories and friendships, including a special travel bond with fellow chaperone Mrs. Sharon Silva. Their first trip together was to Italy, followed by adventures in Ireland, England, and Wales in 2012. Along the way, they collected stories that would be remembered long after the suitcases were unpacked. One hotel in Wales was particularly unforgettable. With its winding hallways, location above the kitchen, and view overlooking a cemetery, it looked more like something out of The Shining than a place to spend the night! Amy gathered and printed photos from their three trips and put them in a book as a birthday gift for Sharon. Reflecting on Amy's work at Mount de Sales, Sharon said, “She worked hard and really cared about the students and their needs.” That’s Amy: someone who takes her responsibilities seriously, cares deeply about others, and gives generously of herself. Amy's retirement marks the end of an important chapter in her life, but her impact on Mount de Sales Academy will continue through the colleagues she supported, the students she cared for, and the countless memories she helped create. She can now spend more time with her two grandsons and nurture the plants in her garden. DE SALES SHEET 2026

WHY I GIVE Bobby and Sandra Rewis From the archives:
For Bobby and Sandra Rewis, leaving a lasting legacy was an important part of their story. Sandy, a 1960 graduate of Mount de Sales Academy, built a life and career alongside her husband, Bobby, whose roots were in Bacon County, Georgia. During her time at Mount de Sales, Sandy was a boarder and a very friendly, smart student with a welcoming presence who grew close to the Sisters, many of whom were from Cuba at the time. After graduating from Bacon County High School in 1953, Bobby earned a degree in accounting from Georgia State University and went on to enjoy a successful career in the steel industry, including part ownership of Formetco. Sandy enjoyed a career with Quaker Oats Company. In 1985, Bobby and Sandra retired to Saint Simons Island, where they embraced a life filled with travel, golf, and new adventures. Bobby earned his pilot’s license, while Sandy enjoyed participating in bridge clubs. They were longtime members of Saint Simons United Methodist Church and Sea Island Golf Club, where they built lasting friendships and enjoyed more than 25 years of community. Bobby’s decision to establish an annual gift through his estate reflects his desire to make a lasting impact beyond his lifetime and to ensure 7

We are deeply grateful to Bobby and Sandy for their generosity and for the enduring legacy they have created at Mount de Sales. Their story is a beautiful reminder that planned giving is an opportunity to extend one’s values, faith, and commitment to future generations. How will you leave a legacy? Mount de Sales flag football has established itself as one of the GIAA programs consistently competing deep into November. The Lady Cavaliers finished the 2025 season 9-3 and returned to the GIAA State Championship for the second time in program history. The Cavaliers entered the championship looking to unseat St. Anne-Pacelli, who won the previous three GIAA titles, but ultimately took second place in the state. The loss brought the Cavaliers' season to a close as GIAA State Runner-Up, and added another chapter to an impressive, young program. Since flag football began at Mount de Sales four years ago, the Cavaliers have advanced to the state semifinals in every season and reached the championship game twice. The season also produced significant individual recognition. Payton Latimer, Laura Lillie Sparks, Gracie Peek and Danielle Williams earned GIAA All-State honors, with all four also receiving All-Region recognition. Marie Tan, Dekhia Brown and Dezhia Brown were named All-Region.
ALUMNI IN ATHLETICS Talia Fonseca ’24 helped lead California women's water polo to the 2026 NCAA National Championship game and a No. 2 national finish, recording 10 saves in the title game. Katelyn Perazzola ’24 captured the CACC championship in the 100-meter dash for Holy Family University, earning First Team All-CACC honors and breaking an 11-year-old school record. A'Khori Jones ’22 started all 12 games at safety for Liberty, recording 39 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble. He earned CSC Academic AllDistrict honors for the second consecutive year. Carter Sparks ’25 earned varsity time at heavyweight as a freshman for nationally ranked McKendree University, including three victories during the Bearcats' undefeated weekend at the Greyhound Duals. OUR CATHOLIC IDENTITY
Fr. Williams leads the students in a blessing of the field in celebration of Homecoming.
While our current students may not be able to recall the days when the Sisters of Mercy roamed these hallways, the Mercy charism established in 1876 at the Mount continues to guide our students to this day. Rooted in Catholic tradition, Mount de Sales Academy continues into the next 150 years with Christ at the center. As a school-wide community, the Cavaliers travel to St. Joseph Catholic Church once a month to join in Mass together. Students can join Campus Ministry as a class and join in a men’s or women’s bible study group. The junior class grows closer in their faith and connection to each other during the Kairos retreat.
Meet Reverend Fred Williams Fr. Fred Williams joins us as our newest chaplain for the 2026-27 academic year. Fr. Williams is originally from Lawrenceville, Ga,
and is the youngest of a large family. He is a graduate of Franciscan University of Steubenville, and of St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary. Fr. Williams was only recently ordained a priest on June 6th, 2026, and is currently the youngest priest in the state of Georgia. One fun fact about Fr. Williams: in high school, he volunteered at Zoo Atlanta, where he worked directly with some very exciting animals like lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!) and many others. The junior class went on the first grade-wide Kairos retreat in 2025.

When Ed Grisamore walked into Room 102 in Cuddy Hall for the first time, he had a two-word reaction. Green screen. The room selected as the studio for the new journalism and mass communications class had a large wall in the back. It was 30 feet wide and 10 feet tall. “It was a non-descript color, so we had it painted green,’’ Grisamore said. “It's not just a green screen. We're calling it the largest green screen in Macon, Georgia. If anyone wants to challenge that claim, bring your tape measure. Game on.’’ The official color is Sherwin-Williams “Outrageous Green.” The students affectionately call it “Shrek Green. Grisamore's personal favorite is “Gumby Green.’’

The green screen allows students unlimited backgrounds for their weekly broadcast, which is shown in home room every Tuesday. The news site is called “The CavaLeader” (mdscavaleader.net) and the broadcast is known as “The Lead.’’ “Journalism is the best liberal arts education you can receive in any curriculum,’’ Grisamore said. “Our students are learning life skills that will serve them well in
school. He said students strive for a balance of information and entertainment. In September, the class was asked to produce a 12minute documentary for an all-school assembly on the 25th anniversary of September 11. Mount de Sales teachers were interviewed about their memories of that day. The journalism students have also assisted students and teachers in other classes with video projects. “It’s all about creating a culture,’’ Grisamore said. “We refer to ourselves as ‘The Room Where It Happens.’ We borrowed that from ‘Hamilton,’ and it’s true. We are at the epicenter. Our neighbors on the hallway are an art class, robotics room and innovation lab. We love to show off our studio and, of course, the giant green screen. President O’Kane calls it ‘sizzle.’ We are the cool hall.’’ At his new teacher orientation, Grisamore said he was thrilled to learn Francis de Sales is the patron saint of journalism and writing. The students have started a tradition of clicking coffee mugs at the end of each broadcast and telling viewers to “Stay classy, Cavs!” The class has also added a mascot -- a blue Betta fish nicknamed “Caviar.’’

Students will join more than 500 other high school journalism students from across the state at the Georgia Scholastic Press Association workshop at the University of Georgia in Athens in October. What makes MDS stand out is its dedication to servant leadership and its focus on preparing students for the real world through learning outside the classroom. Caroline (Freeman) Davis ‘16 and Allison Freeman ‘20 experienced different MDS programs that set them on the path to their now-fulfilling careers. Caroline, CCC-SLP, is a Speech Language Pathologist at Atrium Health Floyd Inpatient Rehab in Rome, GA. Allison, OTR/L, is an Occupational Therapist at Atrium Health Navicent Inpatient Rehab in Macon, GA. Both ladies kept busy on campus with the Student Council and National Honor Society. During their time at Mount de Sales, both girls were heavily involved in organizations and clubs that set them up for success. Caroline learned about the Senior Transition Experience Program (STEP) offered by Navicent, now Atrium Health, from Mrs. Mary Pat Dadisman. STEP students were challenged to go beyond basic healthcare. Mount de Sales students had the opportunity to participate in Navicent Health’s Lean/Six Sigma training classes, learning skills useful in any business: how to improve care processes, reduce expenses, grow revenue, and manage resources. This partnership was pivotal in Caroline’s decision to pursue the career she has today. She credits the hands-on educational opportunities available to her at Mount de 31

Sales for the success she’s found in her chosen career path. Allison knew she wanted to become an OT and participated in the Diploma Endorsement program at Mount de Sales in high school. Dr. Franklin spearheaded the program; at the time, it was a program for motivated students who wanted to gain real-life career experience while still in high school. It was a unique opportunity to learn work-related skills and personalize high school curriculum to support your passions. This program evolved into Mount de Sales' Senior Practicum program, which currently offers a selective application process for seniors. Allison shares that, without this program, she would not have been on the path to pursue occupational therapy. They were also involved with Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY), which would send two ambassadors from Mount de Sales annually. HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service, and innovation. Both Caroline and Allison attended as junior and senior staff members. Allison serves on the HOBY board today. The success of Caroline and Allison in the medical field reflects how the opportunities, experiences, and skills they gained at Mount de Sales helped shape their paths and laid the foundation for their achievements today.

LITERARY MAGAZINE For decades, students have published a literary magazine sponsored by the Mount de Sales Academy English Department. The publication, which has had different names through the years, including Inklings, Cavalier Cavalcade, The Hard Copy, up to its current masthead, Page Break, features original creative writing pieces in the form of short stories and poems as well as artwork in a variety of mediums, including digital drawings, photography, and paintings. Page Break gives Upper School students opportunities to see their work published, motivates creative students, and gives them an audience for their work. Student staff members gain skills in organization, management, and teamwork. They review submitted works and select which pieces will be published, edit writing pieces, create the layout for the final copy, and publicize the magazine to their peers through videos, announcements and flyers.

As the woods bent in cryptic shapes, I felt the cold wind blow in. I took a knee to rest and felt a presence behind me. Its aura was made from pure odium. Its breath was cold and wet as it let out a bovine squeal. Its bones crackled like breaking twigs. I slowly turned to face this horrid monster...”

AUTOCavs Rookie Season Rookie Season
When the AutoCAVs arrived at their first FIRST Tech Challenge competition, coach Kaylee Freeman said their goal was simply to have two functioning robots. “Making it to the State Championship in our first year was definitely not on our radar,” Freeman said. “We not only made it, we ranked!” Mount de Sales was entering its first season of FTC competition, facing programs with years of experience. Despite competing with minimally-modified starter designs, the AutoCAVs found their robots could reliably perform, even outperforming more complex machines. Chris Wilcox, an engineer at Raytheon Technologies and AutoCAVs coach, said one of the clearest signs of the team’s progress was watching students operate without the coaches’ help. 35

“We could see the team and student progress from season start,” he said. Students developed skills in programming, mechanical assembly, hardware and software design, strategy and systems engineering, with coaches guiding the problemsolving process.
We could see the team and student progress from season start.
Sometimes the best lessons came when things went wrong. During one competition, another robot collided with an AutoCAVs machine and hit its power switch, shutting it down with no way to restart it. “Going into this season, the first thing they said was, ‘We are moving the power switch,’” Wilcox said.
The learning continued beyond competition. Before NASA’s Artemis II launch, the team visited Kennedy Space Center and saw the rocket on the launch pad. “That trip was fulfilling to watch our kids see what the skills they are learning now look like in a career setting,” Freeman said.

If you take a stroll through campus and come to the oldest building on our grounds, Cavalier Hall, you will see the school garden next to it. This space has been a staple of the school for over a decade. Jeff Dadisman and the summer crew built the garden beds and fence and provided the soil we use today. Science teacher Liza Sumowski, uses the garden to conduct the annual Great Southeast Pollinator Census, and Maintenance Manager Frank Davis has managed the garden while growing watermelons and okra. Last year, Earth Club hosted Cavalier Gardening Days for students and families. Our main goal was for students to lead and own something while caring for Godʼs creation. The students and families loved getting their hands dirty. The Federation Garden Club of Macon Youth Committee joined us and provided resources and support. The studentsʼ hard work paid off, and this past summer, we were able to harvest greens, peppers, okra, eggplants, herbs, and zinnias. With our bounty, we held a mini farmers market during SPLASH Camp and made a $40 profit. This school year, we are expanding the garden to take care of our pollinators. We planted more native flowers from the Everyday Farm and Garden and native bloomers from The State Botanical Gardens of Georgia. With the native flowers, the garden will become a designated pollinator garden under the State Botanical

Also, we will be working with the Everyday Farm and Garden, Georgia Farm Bureau, Minton Farm and Garden, the Youth Committee, and other community partners.
