Welcome all, We are pleased to announce that this year marks our 26th Consecutive Sellout! On behalf of the 2026 Honorary Chairs, welcome to the 26th Annual Fellowship Open Weekend! Over 26 consecutive years, we have raised millions of dollars to champion education and open pathways to successful careers for youth. This dream is made possible only by your generosity and support for this outstanding event! As of this year, the Fellowship Open has raised more than $5 million, which will continue to sustain youth programs and initiatives, impacting more than 160 organizations connected to Wisconsin. This tremendous outpouring of involvement endorses and guarantees dozens of educational, vocational, and recreational self-development learning experiences and results in positive youth development, advanced leadership training, and corporate engagement. The funding we’ve received has a measurable community impact affecting the educational journey from elementary to university achievement and beyond. The MKE Fellows, designed to eliminate graduation rate disparity for youth, has flourished as a core Fellowship Open initiative. Cohorts of MKE Fellows have graduated at levels which dramatically exceed national standards, providing real-world evidence that they are well on the way to greatness. These scholars are living testaments to the Fellowship Open’s mission and purpose. They serve as indisputable evidence of what can be achieved. Evolving the power of esteemed role models, each year the Fellowship Open takes pride in acknowledging civic and business leaders who exemplify a commitment to excellence, philanthropy, and service. This year we proudly recognize the achievements of Dr. Trisha Bailey, Richard Dent, and James H. Lowry.

30 For 30: Shadow A CEO
For the third consecutive year, MKE Fellows proudly participated in Sidney Moncrief’s 30 for 30: Shadow A CEO experience, an inspiring program designed to prepare the next generation of leaders by connecting students with accomplished executives, entrepreneurs, and professionals from a wide range of industries. The event provides participants with a unique opportunity to gain firsthand insight into leadership, professional excellence, and the skills needed to succeed in today’s workforce.
The 2026 program featured the Pitch and Pizza Competition, challenging students to develop and deliver compelling one-minute elevator pitches that showcased their personal stories, career aspirations, and professional goals. Through interactive workshops, small-group coaching, and targeted networking sessions, participants refined their communication skills while learning how to confidently introduce themselves, build meaningful relationships, and make lasting first impressions. Fellows also received valuable feedback from experienced business leaders, helping them strengthen one of the most important tools for career success—the ability to communicate with confidence and purpose. Representing MKE Fellows with professionalism and poise, Robert Baker and Ian Harris distinguished themselves during the competition. Competing against students from across the region, Baker earned second place, while Harris captured third place in the highly competitive one-minute pitch challenge. Their success reflected not only their preparation and presentation skills, but also the confidence, leadership, and professionalism cultivated through the MKE Fellows program. Experiences like 30 for 30: Shadow A CEO exemplify MKE Fellows’ commitment to preparing young leaders for success beyond the classroom. By providing access to accomplished professionals, meaningful mentorship, and opportunities to practice real-world communication and networking skills, MKE Fellows continues to equip students with the confidence, relationships, and experiences needed to thrive in college, their careers, and their communities.
Treading New Territory One meaningful connection at the Fellowship Open can change the course of a young person’s future, and for MKE Fellow Desharr Saddler, that moment came during the 23rd Annual Fellowship Open. While attending the event, Saddler was introduced to Dr. D’Wayne Edwards, a pioneering footwear designer whose career spans more than three decades with iconic brands including L.A. Gear, Nike, and Jordan Brand. As the founder of PENSOLE, the nation’s first footwear design academy specializing in footwear, functional apparel and accessories, color and materials, prototyping, and concept development, Dr. Edwards has dedicated his career to creating opportunities for the next generation of creative talent. After reviewing Saddler’s portfolio, Dr. Edwards encouraged him to attend the Black Footwear Forum in Detroit, Michigan. The experience proved transformational, giving Saddler renewed
confidence, valuable industry connections, and an even greater passion for pursuing a career in footwear design. While interning with Weyco Group, Inc. in 2025, Saddler was selected as one of only eight aspiring designers accepted into the prestigious Pensole Lewis College Detroit x New Balance: ALL.IN Program, designed to develop the next generation of footwear and apparel professionals. That same year, Saddler celebrated two life-changing milestones. In December 2025, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Product Design from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD). Shortly thereafter, he accepted a position with New Balance as a Footwear Color Designer. His journey is a powerful example of how a single introduction, meaningful mentorship, and access to opportunity can transform a student’s future, bringing the mission of MKE Fellows to life.
Banking On Green The African Center for Community Development, Inc. is committed to building a vibrant, inclusive community for African immigrants and refugees throughout Madison and Dane County. Through programs that promote cross-cultural understanding, social and economic integration, civic engagement, and leadership development, the organization empowers individuals, families, and businesses with the resources they need to thrive. Their work continues to strengthen communities by creating pathways to opportunity and long-term success. In partnership with Associated Bank, MKE Fellows was proud to welcome students from the African Center for Community Development and Madison East High School to Milwaukee for an immersive day of learning through Banking On Green. Designed by MKE Fellows, the interactive experience uses the game of golf as a powerful metaphor for life, demonstrating how preparation, intentionality, and smart decision-making can shape one’s personal and professional journey. By connecting the mechanics of golf putting with real-world lessons, students engaged in hands-on activities that made concepts of leadership, career readiness, and financial literacy both memorable and meaningful. Throughout the experience, students rotated through six interactive learning stations: The Green & The Grit, The Power of the Launch, The Sartorial Strategy, Digital Identity, The Foyer Ascent, and The Economic Gateway. Each session explored a different aspect of personal and professional development—from overcoming life’s “sand traps” and understanding the importance of alignment to building a professional brand on LinkedIn, strengthening communication through compelling storytelling, and learning how to leverage financial assets for future success. More than a day of activities, Banking On Green demonstrated the impact of experiential learning. By combining mentorship, practical skill-building, and engaging experiences, students left with new perspectives, increased confidence, and tangible tools to help them navigate their educational, professional, and personal journeys.
I Am My Brother’s Keeper According to the American Immigration Council, as of mid-January, more than 73,000 people were being held in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facilities, a record high and an increase of more than 75 percent over the previous year. The organization also reports a significant rise in the number of individuals with no criminal record being held in detention, highlighting the growing impact of changing immigration enforcement practices. As conversations surrounding immigration intensified across the country, many people searched for ways to respond. For MKE Fellow Evan Gutter, those conversations became a call to action. A senior at Marquette University High School, Gutter felt compelled to publicly express his concern after learning about immigration enforcement actions taking place in Minnesota. While several classmates who had initially planned to participate ultimately decided not to attend because of safety concerns, Gutter remained committed and chose to march through downtown Milwaukee on his own. His decision was rooted in his personal faith and sense of responsibility. Guided by the teachings of Matthew 25:35–40 and Jeremiah 22:3, Gutter believed that standing in solidarity with vulnerable communities was an important way to live out his values. Rather than waiting for others to take the first step, he demonstrated the courage to lead through conviction, even when it meant standing alone. Reflecting on the experience, Gutter shared a message that captures both his determination and the spirit of servant leadership: “I know I can make a difference. It all starts with one voice.” His willingness to act serves as a reminder that leadership often begins with the courage to stand for one’s beliefs and the confidence that a single voice can inspire meaningful change. All-Star Leadership
During NBA All-Star Weekend 2026, MKE Fellows participated in a multi-day leadership experience designed to combine professional development, career exploration, service, and meaningful networking. Throughout the weekend, Fellows from Hampton University and North Carolina A&T State University were immersed in opportunities that extended far beyond the excitement of one of basketball’s biggest events, gaining firsthand exposure to leadership in action. The experience began on a Thursday with the Time Pitch Competition, where Fellows strengthened their ability to communicate ideas with clarity, confidence, and purpose while presenting under pressure. The next day, participants took part in the Crossover experience and additional professional development programming before attending the NBA Classic Games. These experiences provided valuable opportunities to engage with professionals, explore career pathways, and build relationships in environments where business, sports, and culture intersect. The weekend culminated on a Saturday as Fellows volunteered at the NBA Legends Basketball event, where they supported event operations while putting their academic knowledge into practice. Students assumed meaningful responsibilities aligned with their fields of study. A Finance major welcomed and assisted attendees, a Kinesiology student conducted blood pressure screenings, and an Engineering scholar helped operate medical equipment alongside healthcare professionals. These hands-on experiences allowed Fellows to contribute in tangible ways while developing confidence in their skills and abilities.
The impact of the weekend reflected the core mission of MKE Fellows: creating opportunities where exposure meets responsibility. By combining leadership development, professional access, community service, and real-world application, Fellows left with expanded networks, strengthened confidence, and a deeper understanding of how their education can be used to make a meaningful difference in their communities and future careers.
The Sky’s The Limit For MKE Fellow Juan Hogans, entrepreneurship has always been driven by a vision for growth. As the founder of a successful fashion business, Juan enrolled in the New Beginnings Aviation Ministry program in 2023 with the goal of expanding his knowledge and developing a new skill set. He recognized that aviation could open doors to new business opportunities while challenging him to grow both personally and professionally. Through dedication, discipline, and countless hours of training, Juan completed the program’s instructional requirements and, at just 19 years old, earned his certification as a Private Pilot. Reaching this milestone was more than a personal achievement, it was proof that determination and a willingness to embrace new opportunities can lead to extraordinary outcomes. Rather than keeping that experience to himself, Juan made it his mission to inspire the next generation. Believing that exposure creates possibility, he organized a series of weekend aviation experiences that introduced more than 100 young people from Milwaukee to the world of flight. For many, it was their first time stepping onto an airfield or into an airplane cockpit. By opening the skies to youth who may never have imagined aviation as a possibility, Hogans is helping expand horizons and redefine what is attainable. His hope is that one day many of those young passengers will return, not as spectators, but as pilots themselves. His journey reflects the MKE Fellows mission of transforming personal success into opportunities that uplift and inspire others.
History Making In Missouri
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, MKE Fellows traveled to Kansas City, Missouri, for an unforgettable educational and cultural experience that blended history, sports, and community. The trip provided Fellows with opportunities to deepen their understanding of the past while experiencing world-class events that highlighted the power of connection through sports and culture. One of the trip’s highlights was a visit to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the only national museum in the world dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history of African American baseball. Through historic artifacts, interactive exhibits, photographs, films, and a comprehensive timeline of baseball and African American history, Fellows explored the stories of trailblazing athletes whose perseverance and excellence transformed the game while breaking down barriers far beyond the baseball diamond. The experience served as a powerful reminder of the resilience, leadership, and legacy of those who paved the way for future generations. Just a few miles away, Fellows experienced the energy of the FIFA Fan Festival at the National WWI Museum and Memorial. As one of the region’s largest free summer festivals celebrating the excitement of the FIFA World Cup 2026, the event brought together live music, international culture, interactive experiences, and community engagement. It offered Fellows the chance to witness how global sporting events unite people from diverse backgrounds while creating opportunities for cultural exchange and celebration. The day concluded at Kauffman Stadium, where the Fellows watched an exciting matchup between the Houston Astros and the Kansas City Royals. Despite weather-related rain delays, the Astros secured a thrilling 8–7 victory, providing an exciting end to a day filled with learning, inspiration, and memorable experiences. Experiences like these are central to the MKE Fellows mission. By exposing students to history, culture, leadership, and new environments, MKE Fellows continues to broaden perspectives, inspire curiosity, and create opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom.

A Legacy That Continues To Open Doors On a warm July afternoon, leaders, supporters, Fellows, and friends gathered to celebrate what, at first glance, looked like a ceremonial check presentation. However, as the day unfolded, it became clear that everyone was joining in celebration of the success of the shared belief that when young leaders are given opportunity, entire communities are transformed. That belief came to life through the Chasing the Dream Foundation, established in honor of baseball legend Henry "Hank" Aaron and led by Cecelia Gore, Executive Director of the Brewers Community Foundation. On July 20, 1976, Henry Aaron hit the 755th and final home run of his illustrious Major League Baseball career. That historic milestone number became the cornerstone of a movement to impact the lives of youth 50 years later. The Foundation announced the inauguration of a transformational $250,000 endowment—named in honor of his 755 career home runs— to perpetually provide scholarship funds for Milwaukee Fellows. The announcement honored one of America's iconic sports figures and the key principle that defined his life: lifting others as we climb together. Throughout the day, alumni reflected on how the Milwaukee Fellows experience had shaped their lives and community leaders spoke of the
program's growing impact across the region. The timing of the Foundation’s support is even more meaningful with the Milwaukee Fellows program’s record growth, as they prepare to welcome their largest class to date in fall 2026. As the program continues to expand, so does the need to ensure that financial circumstances never prevent promising young leaders from participating. This endowment will remove those barriers, allowing future Fellows to pursue leadership development, mentorship, and life-changing opportunities regardless of their financial situation. The generosity of Chasing the Dream Foundation reflects a lasting partnership built on a shared commitment to developing servant leaders who will strengthen Milwaukee and beyond. Its support ensures that the doors opened for today's Fellows will remain open for generations still to come. The students, staff, and family of the Milwaukee Fellows family extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Billye S. Aaron and family, Mrs. Cecelia Gore and the Chasing the Dream Foundation for believing in the power of young leaders. Their generosity reminds us that the greatest legacy is not measured by what we leave behind, but by the lives we empower to move forward.
A Scholar Among The Nation’s Best Each year, The Gates Scholarship recognizes some of the nation’s most exceptional high school seniors for their academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to serving others. As one of the most prestigious and highly selective scholarships in the United States, the program is designed to help outstanding student leaders realize their full potential by removing financial barriers to higher education. The scholarship provides recipients with funding for the full cost of attendance not already covered by other financial aid or the Student Aid Index, including tuition, fees, books, housing, and meals. Beyond financial support, Gates Scholars join a national network of high-achieving students and gain access to leadership development, mentoring, academic resources, and professional opportunities that prepare them for success throughout college and beyond. Selection is exceptionally competitive. Each year, more than 34,000 students submit applications, yet only 300 scholars are chosen nationwide. Recipients are selected not only for their outstanding academic achievement, but also for their demonstrated leadership, involvement in community service and extracurricular activities, and the character and resilience they have shown throughout their educational journey. Among this year’s distinguished recipients is MKE Fellow Nicholas Parchia, whose dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence earned him this remarkable honor. Nicholas’ achievement reflects both his hard work and perseverance, while also exemplifying the mission of MKE Fellows, to prepare young leaders to pursue opportunities that create lasting impact in their communities and beyond. His selection as a Gates Scholar stands as an extraordinary accomplishment and an inspiration to future generations of Fellows.
