New MG Franchise Drives Mackie Motors Ahead
Angus based car dealership Mackie Motors successfully launched their fourth brand - MG, the UK’s fastest growing car brand - in Brechin earlier this year. Their brand-new MG showroom, situated on Clerk Street, Brechin, right across the road from the group’s Renault and Dacia premises, has created several new jobs in the City and to date has exceeded even Mackie’s own high expectations. Kevin Mackie, Managing Director of Mackie Motors, said: “We’re delighted to be the main MG dealer in the North East of Scotland for the UK’s fastest growing car manufacturer. MG has been a really exciting addition to our portfolio of popular, great value motor brands.” Mackie Motors was established in Brechin in 1977, initially with just the Renault franchise. In 1998 they expanded, adding the Nissan brand and a new site on Montrose Road in Arbroath. The DACIA franchise, part of Groupe Renault was launched in 2013 in Brechin. In 2016 the Brechin site was completely upgraded and expanded to create more capacity, as well as a more modern, welcoming showroom environment. Kevin added: “The MG brand has a great history and we’ve been really impressed with the design, build quality and level of spec on the models in the current range. offered makes a real statement of quality and the affordable price point makes these cars really attractive to car owners throughout the North East of Scotland.” “We are excitedly awaiting the launch of MG’s first fully electric car, the MG ZS EV, in the Autumn. Industry talk is that it will have a 268- mile range on the old NEDC cycle. This move further strengthens our already strong EV offering, which includes the popular Renault ZOE and iconic New Nissan LEAF models.” “We see this new venture as providing a fantastic opportunity for us to expand our new car market share in the region. Particularly as currently we are the only registered MG dealer between Falkirk and Shetland.” The UK new car market shrunk by 6.8% in 2018, but in contrast Mackie Motors saw new vehicle sales grow by an impressive 7.5%. “We are forecasting a 20% growth in combined new and used vehicle sales in 2019,” explained Kevin. “A strong start to the year put us on track to achieve this.”
