Since my early childhood years I was introduced too horses, mainly at the riding schools… yes I enjoyed dressage and reached a decent level till the day my father took me to Janow Podladski the yearly National Championship and auction… A whole new world opened and I knew I had to become a part of it.

GRZEGORZ GAJEWICZ I spend time in magazines, books, visiting shows and stud farms all related too Arabian horses. I tried to know everyone in the industry and make connections. At school I took a direction into animal husbandry… what I successfully finished. Meanwhile I had the chance to go and get my hands dirty in the barns of Jadem Arabians in Belgium and Sinus Arabians in Sweden. I chose those farms specifically as they focus on Polish breeding but outside Poland.

When a friend of mine, Pawel Syliwoniuk, from Poland called me from USA to say: “Hey are you interested, there is maybe a chance for you to come here”! My heart pumped harder and I followed the procedures of the CAEP visa program… some months later I landed in Los Angeles and Bart Van Buggenhout, at the time manager of Aljassimya Farm in Santa Ynez, picked me up. I spend a good 10 months under his wings… he has had and still has a big impact on my life, even currently as the barn manager of Al Rayyan Farm, a job he directed me towards and coaches me in.

My biggest interest always has been the breeding and management part, I never had the greatest interest in showing or training. So I start my days by walking the farm, looking at each horse, to pick up on any possible problem that might occur. Further my days are spend working with the care givers at the farm, maintaining feeding schedules and general well being of the horses. Assisting in making sure the farriers, trainers, veterinarians and office people all can do there job to the highest standard as is required in this Straight Egyptian breeding program with close too 200 horses and about 50 foals a year. Rayyan is often visited by guests for whom we organize presentations, it ads too the workload and standards that need to be achieved.

My favorite part is foaling out our mares and making sure the newborn foals and their mothers are all fine, seeing the babies get up and start nursing is always a pleasure to me. Mr. Fahad Al Sulaiti, manager of Al Rayyan Farm holds my respect and I hope to work under him for some more years to come.

Fabio Brianzoni: What has contact with Arabian horses given you on a personal level?

Grzegorz Gajewicz: Definitely Arabian horses have given me many life lessons so far and because of that help build my character. If you know horses and their way of perception you have to learn to react very fast, a matter of seconds. I feel I have grown much more self confident over the years working with them. They are giving me solace after a difficult day. I am sure most of you whom are reading this know how fast you can release your stress by spending a couple minutes alone with one of the mares, just sitting in a stall corner or giving some carrots on a barn check.

Fabio Brianzoni: What would you never give up in your professional life alongside them?

Grzegorz Gajewicz: I don’t like to lose the passion I have for real horse kindness. It is important to

me while staying with the horses, I can provide the best care for them. I see many people in our industry who lost that as making money seems to become more imported then the passion for the horses itself. For me horses come first wether it is

a recipient mare, gelding, broodmare, stallion or show horse… all deserve the same attention, care and financial commitment in the best possible way.

Fabio Brianzoni: What are your future plans?

Grzegorz Gajewicz: I am going to focus on gaining knowledge and experience in barn management. I care for my job and there is plenty more to learn and experience… the climate in the Middle East (Qatar) is not always easy, summers are harsh, plenty of learning opportunity is provided, it is a great challenge to keep the feeding schedules, time outside and happiness all in place.

The foaling season is coming up, so focus will be on that soon. Further we are together with a team, some of them new members, working on organizing our open house after the World Championships, which are going to take place in Doha this December. We would like to show the World the new Al Rayyan slogan ,”seeds from heritage,”.

Later in the season we plan to compete at some of the shows… its going to be an exciting winter season.

Fabio Brianzoni: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Grzegorz Gajewicz: That is always a difficult question; The last few years have shown me that planning is not an easy feed, sometimes opportunities come whom simply can not be missed, as so I am now working for Rayyan and hope to keep doing that for a good few more years to come. We never know what is going to happen tomorrow but I do feel myself a happy person working with Arabian horses, so that’s something most likely to remain. It amazes me that it does not matter how many years you have been working with horses, you have to solve new problems every day and through it, learn every day. I love traveling and would like to continue to do that and see farms, horses, meet people all around the globe. Maybe a day will come some years ahead of me now where my experience is extensive enough to become a manager that can assist in breeding decisions, that must be fun and exciting. q

Named after one of the best artists in human history, he represents the living piece of art of breeding.

Picasso di Mar, bred and proudly owned

by Azienda Agricola Tre Stelle in Italy. He began his international career in 2017 as a yearling colt winning European Breeders Championships in Chantilly and following to the highest trophies in his career so far the year after – gaining 2018 European Gold Champion Colt and Italian Nationals Gold Champion Colt titles. It was not a surprise that he caught an eye of big world breeders being on lease for two years to Al Jassimya Farm. And their success has been just around the corner... Picasso di Mar has returned to the scene for the second time with big kick off– both as a show horse and as a sire. The eyes of the whole Arabian horse community focused on him as a sire in June 2021 when his beautiful daughter named not other than Perfecta Al Jassimya won the class and silver medal at the prestigious Mediterranean and Arab Countries Arabian Horse Championships in Menton scored almost 92 points. About a month after Picasso himself proudly returned to the showring with Giacomo Capacci on the lead at Spring International Arabian Horse Show in Italy. In a strong class of 8 stallions and some big names in he gained as high

score as 93, 38 points with all 20 across the judges boards for head and neck and 2x20 for type. Being in his best disposition he won the gold medal in the championship before D Kaheel by Fa El Rasheem and Engulo EEA by Shanghai EA. This perfect look and the perfect offspring of Picasso di Mar are not a coincidence. He is typical representative of his male line of Versace via his sire – Cavalli, twice silver champion in Menton as junior and senior, silver champion at Elran Cup in Belgium and gold in Arezzo and Chantilly shows.

Dam of Picasso di Mar is SG Wendetta – Italian National Champion Mare, Top Ten in Junior Mares class at World Championship in Paris. SG Wendetta represents the line of famous Michałów Stud bred mare Wernera by Tallin sold at the auction in 1993 to Scuderia Groane in Italy. She produced a beautiful and valuable stallion Wares by Piruet who has been retained for Polish breeding while leased to Michałów in 2020. Bred to a typey Egyptian-sired stallion Brianz Xaver Wernera produced Wenus by Wernera – dam of exotic filly SG Wenusia by SDP Taylor. Wenusia entitled Gold Champion at Spring Show in Montefalco and class winner at Italian Nationals in 2016 happened to be a valuable mare in the

breeding barn of her owners.

With World Champion Stallion Wadee Al Shaqab she produced Italian National Bronze Medal filly SG Wenere but especially well she crossed with exotic Psyrasic by Psytadel who consolidated the unique type producing SG Walentina Gold Champion of Italian Class A Show, Top Five at European Championships, and 5th in Menton and her one year older full sister was SG Wendetta - the dam of Picasso di Mar. The success in the summer 2021 was not the last word of Picasso di Mar in the showring - in the autumn 2022 he repeated his success from European Championship once again in Lier winning his class and European Gold Champion title. In the meantime he was used on a group of a lovely broodmares of Janów Podlaski State Stud in Poland, some of them changed the ownership during Pride of Poland auction – like a beautiful Polish National Reserve Champion Filly - Basilia that is expecting her Picasso di Mar foal just now in February 2023.

While he is getting more and more popular as a sire and his large group of offspring will be born this year it may be an era of Picasso di Mar coming into the spotlight in the next months. Stay tuned! m

WHAT DID NOT GET AWAY? Musings on what still can be

Now I wish to take a look at what did not “Get Away” by revisiting some of the other combinations of Egyptian breeding which will add to the quality and genetic choices for today’s straight Egyptians.

First, let us take into account that the Saklawi I or Nazeer sire line is now the most dominant in Straight Egyptian breeding. In fact, the Nazeer sire line could be nearly the most dominant in the whole breed now when one also considers the heavy use of the Aswan, Ali Jamaal and Gazal Al Shaqab branches of Nazeer’s sire line, not to mention the huge patriarchy of Morafic and Ansata Ibn Halima. It would not be difficult to find a stallion of the Nazeer sire line today. So why not explore the other sire lines in Egyptian breeding as a harmonic balance to the current distribution?

The second most numerous sire line in Egyptian breeding is the Jamil El Kebir or Rabdan sire line. This line comes forward today in two branches, Ibn Samhan and Ibn Rabdan (see Arabian Essence Newsletters: Remembering Rabdan El Azrak, parts 1-3, January to March 2009).

In this newsletter we will cover the Ibn Rabdan branch which has four key progenitors: • • • •

IBN RABDAN BRANCH The older of the four key progenitors is Ibn Fayda who is very rich in the old Ali Pasha Sherif breeding. Ibn Fayda’s patriarchy comes forward through the great stallion Sameh via 3 of his sons: Ibn Hafiza, Sultann and Aseel. All three of these were handsome horses of good body type and movement but of rather plain head. The hallmark of Ibn Rabdan breeding is often the beautiful body proportions, good length of neck, excellent shoulders, good depth of body, strong quarters, good legs and very good movement, but like Ibn Rabdan himself, the heads are not as beautiful as the Nazeer sire line. However the female lines play a role over time in improving the heads and when all else is maintained, the results are very good indeed. So considering a stallion of Ibn Rabdan’s sire line as a kind of outcross makes more sense in today’s pedigrees. One can choose the Ibn Rabdan sire line and have it both ways, quality and beauty. Let’s first look at a few of the great sires who come from the Ibn Fayda-Sameh line.

Ibn Hafiza (Sameh x Hafiza) was an incredible mover. He was much more handsome in person than in pictures.

He walked like a panther covering lots of ground and had the most beautiful silhouette. He is the grandsire of the magnificent chestnut stallion Tammen, a beautiful example of the Ibn Rabdan sire line and although Tammen daughters are his most sought after get, there are still some sons of him today to consider.

Sultann (Sameh x Lubna), like Ibn Hafiza, was an incredible mover and a refined and exotic horse to see in person. He has three famous sons, Asadd, Makhsous and Sakr. Asadd was U.S. National champion and a charismatic horse of beautiful proportions, but his sire line is very rare now. Makhsous proved an exceptional sire and is remembered for his prominent sons, Marquis I, Calypso Dance and Makhnificent KA. Sakr was the most winning straight Egyptian stallion in the U.S. ever with many National level wins in performance. To see him compete under saddle was an unforgettable spectacle of power, movement and classic Arabian horse type. His nostrils would flare just like the 19th century engravings of beautiful Arabians. Known mostly for his daughters, it was Sakr’s son Nabiel (x Magidaa) who became an incredible sire, becoming the 17th most prolific sire world wide. His son Sabiel became U.S. Egyptian Event Supreme Champion stallion and then he was exported winning World Junior Champion and Qatar Champion. One of the most beautiful Nabiel sons and a much admired sire on several continents is Akid Geshan (Nabiel x Akid Hanalei).

Aseel (Sameh x Inas) has eight sons representing his sire line but one became the most famous, that being his exotic son El Mareekh (x Rawayeh). This beautiful bay stallion was an unforgettable sight in person but unfortunately died young. However two of his sons figure prominently in today’s straight Egyptian champions: Ibn El Mareekh (x Bint Deenaa) and MFA Mareekh Amir (x MFA Monien).

Of the four key progenitors of the Ibn Rabdan line, three of them, Fadl, Shahloul, and Hamdan are closely related being three-quarter brothers. Fadl was imported to the U.S. in 1932 as a two year old while Shahloul and Hamdan remained in Egypt.

Ibn El Mareekh (El Mareekh x Bint Deenaa), half brother to Anaza El Farid, he is a very successful sire line from the Sameh son Aseel.

Shahloul (Ibn Rabdan x Bint Radia) became a replacement for his sire at the R..A.S. and sired very few male horses. He is most famous for his splendid daughters, Moniet El Nefous, Bukra, Kateefa and Maisa. However two Shahloul sons were retained by the R.A.S. The older one, Mashhour (x Bint Rustem) also sired good daughters but left only one son to replace him at the E.A.O. which was Seef (x Elwya). Seef in turn got a number of fine daughters.

His most famous son is Ibn Safinaz (x Safinaz) who became an important outcross stallion for Imperial Egyptian Stud. A very good sire, Ibn Safinaz is the sire of two very impressive stallions, Safeen (x Abitibi x Madeena) and his three-quarter brother Imperial Shehaab (x MB Mazaraa). Shahloul’s only other son of note is El Sareei, the handsome full brother of Maisa and sire of the magnificent stallion Tuhotmos (x Moniet El Nefous). Tuhotmos was also a heavily used sire yet his sire line is quite rare today.

Shahloul’s full brother Hamdan was gifted to King Farouk as a young horse and became an important sire for the Inshass Royal Stud and later became a sire for the Hamdan Stud in Egypt. He has a larger representation as a sire line than his full brother thanks in large part to his handsome chestnut son Anter. Anter left a lasting legacy in Egypt at the E.A.O. with a number of impressive sons and grandsons representing him. He also had a large impact in Europe through his handsome black son Gharib (Anter x Souhair). Gharib’s Marbach-bred son Norus (x Noha) came to Canada, and sired the multi-World Champion stallion Hadidi (Norus x Hebet Allah) a popular sire in Italy who came back to the U.S. in recent times.

Shahloul and Hamdan’s three-quarter brother Fadl was the only straight Egyptian stallion which Mr. Babson began his Arabian breeding program in 1932. So all Egyptian stallions produced from the original Egyptian program of Mr. Babson were of the Ibn Rabdan sire line.

Fadl actually had a huge impact on American breeding even more than within Egyptian lines, being the grandsire of the “fabulous Fadjur who was for many years in the 1950s through early 1970s the most heavily used sire in America. Three of Fadl’s Egyptian sons have carried his sire line forward, Fa-Serr, Fabah and Lothar. These were very handsome horses found in many champions. sire line at Babson’s and a horse who looked very much like Ibn Rabdan was the liver chestnut stallion Serr Rou (Ibn Fa-Serr x Bahrou) a grandson of Fa-Serr and Fabah.

Lothar was a horse I knew personally and he was a very typy and refined chestnut roan horse who was the vision of old 19th century engravings. The Babson horses have continued to be a consistent source of the Ibn Rabdan sire line and have long proven a worthy consideration as an outcross for intensely Nazeer bred horses. They are now just starting to show up in increasing numbers in Europe and in doing so, like other Ibn Rabdan sire line horses, add to the choices for the future of Arabian breeders everywhere.

BLOODLINE Building on my previous look back at horses born in Egypt many years ago, let us continue to review some of the remaining elements of Egyptian breeding which will add to the quality and genetic choices for today’s straight Egyptians.

In the last newsletter we talked about the Ibn Rabdan branch of the Jamil El Kebir sire line. The other branch of Jamil El Kebir is the Ibn Samhan branch. Ibn Samhan was a chestnut stallion born in 1919 at the R.A.S. during its early years. His sire Samhan, was given to the R.A.S. by Prince Mohammed Ali and the pedigree was well regarded since Samhan was a brother to Dalal Al Zarka (the female line of Moniet El Nefous among others). Ibn Samhan’s dam, Nafaa El Saghira produced Mansour, the sire of Nazeer.

The Ibn Samhan branch of the Jamil El Kebir sire line has two key progenitors: (1) Kheir (Ibn Samhan x Badaouia) represented by 1 son, Gassir and his extended lines; and (2) Balance (Ibn Samhan x Farida) represented by 2 sons, Emam and Nasrulla and their extended lines.

Both Kheir and Balance proved to be good race horses and in fact Balance held the record for the mile for many years. Generally the Ibn Samhan line horses were very athletic. The Ibn Samhan son Zarife (x Mahroussa) was imported to the U.S. in 1932 and became a respected sire of performance horses and his blood is found in numerous American bred endurance competitors.

However, with so few Egyptian mares in the U.S. during his time, Zarife left no Egyptian sire line though he is found in straight Egyptians today. Only Kheir and Balance carried on the Ibn Samhan sire line within Egyptian breeding. Yet for all the athletic qualities ascribed to this sire line it has now become quite rare in Egyptian bloodlines.

Kheir was Ibn Samhan’s first born son and has managed to carry the main portion of the Ibn Samhan patriarchy through his son Gassir, an important sire for the RAS. A Dahman Shahwan stallion of the Bint El Bahreyn family, Gassir has three sons, Zaghloul (x Gharbawia), Sabeel (x Shahbaa) and Mourad (x Mabrouka) to carry on for Kheir’s patriarchy. Sabeel’s full brother AK Shahm was imported to the U.S. and while he left Egyptian daughters, he left no sire line. Sabeel sired two stallions who came to America, GAF Hossam (x Mouna) and Lancers Sahm (x Aziza). Both of these stallions were very handsome and

high quality however the male line to these two is thin.

Lancers Sahm is most known for his beautiful champion producing daughter PH Safina (x Noufina). Most of Zaghloul’s influence comes through his daughters such as Asmarr, the grand dam of the renowned and heavily used stallion Thee Desperado. But Zaghloul also has a patriarchy carried by his handsome son Ibn Zaghloul (x Bint Mona), a source of numerous black Arabians. Kheir also sired the beautiful stallion Fadell out of the legendary Bint Radia and he was exported to the U.S. and while he is found in Egyptian pedigrees there is no sire line to him.

BLOODLINE In Egypt, Kheir’s branch continued successfully via Gassir’s beautiful son Mourad, a paternal half brother to Morafic.

Mourad has 10 sons to represent him that each have produced a number of sons themselves to carry on. Certainly one of the most popular sons of Mourad is the celebrated E.A.O. sire Serag El Din. A very handsome and beautiful moving horse, Serag El Din is out of the supreme broodmatron Safinaz, considered the second Moniet El Nefous in type at the E.A.O. From Mourad’s sons Egypt remains the primary source for the Ibn Samhan sire line which is relatively rare elsewhere.

The rarest branch of the Ibn Samhan sire line comes from one of Egypt’s most famous and celebrated race horses, Balance. A horse of superior conformation but lacking in Arabian type, Balance’s fate as a sire would fall to his daughters since he became a good sire of mares. His daughters, Bint Zareefa, Yaquota, Nefisa, and Zaafarana are now famous ancestors in the pedigree of many international champions. Yet his few sons produced some excellent horses though the male line to Balance appears heading to the history books unless some far sighted breeders take note of some good choices available.

Balance sired Mozzafar (raced as Wanis), a 1945 bay stallion out of Hind, the dam of famous Yosreia. A son of Mozzafar was imported to the U.S., Ibn Wanis (x Binte El Bataa) but he died young and no male line exists from Mozzafar.

BLOODLINE

The two male lines that carry on the Balance patriarchy are his sons Nasrulla (x Sehr) and Emam (x Komeira).

Both come from respected dam lines, Nasrulla’s dam being from the same family that produced Gharib (Anter x Ghariba) and Emam being from the same family that produced the lovely Tamria (Tuhotmos x Kamar).

Nasrulla (race name is Shahriar) was a handsome horse who raced well and sired race winners. Likewise for Emam, both being better looking than their sire.

Nasrulla remained a sire for the E.A.O. and sired mostly mares, having few sons. His daughters proved excellent producers and are now found in many champions world wide. But it appears that his only male line continued in Egypt very narrowly through Nasralla’s two sons Moataz (x Enayat) and Amoon (x Naama). In America he has no male line however Nasrulla is widely prevalent via his daughter Baheia (x Hemmat) in the pedigree of famous sire The Minstril among others.

Emam (Balance x Komeira), another swift runner by Balance, Emam got few sons with only Fawzan and Marshall II representing him in male line.

This leave Emam, a 1945 grey stallion bred by the R.A.S. to carry the other branch from Balance. Emam (race name is Amlam) was raced successfully and was owned by the famed Hamdan Stud in Egypt. A handsome stallion with big dark eyes and built for speed, Emam has just two sons to carry on. His son Fawzan (x Foze) was imported to the U.S. by James Kline, famed for his other stallion Talal (Nazeer x Zaafarana). It was hard for Fawzan to compete with his more famous son Talal but nonetheless sired some excellent horses and true to the Balance line seems to be more represented by daughters than stallions. However, he sired a truly beautiful son named Falzan (x Falmona), a handsome chestnut who had a successful show career. Falzan is well bred in that his dam Falmona (Faleh x Bint Mona) is grand dam

of the splendidly beautiful MB Moneena with Judith Wich in Germany and MB Moneena is also known for producing the multi international champion Ansata Qasim (x Farres). Had Falzan been given a greater opportunity for breeding Egyptian mares, the Balance Egyptian sire line in America would be confidently guaranteed. However Falzan is the sire of a handsome stallion that I saw upon several occasions, uniquely named Last Chance Too (x LE Kameesha Amira).

Though an older horse now, Last Chance Too has two young straight Egyptian sons and also a younger full brother, WF Amir Ibn Falzan. This is promising when one considers that this may be the “last chance” for maintaining the sire line coming down from the legendary Balance.

Emam’s other son Marshall II (x Bint Folla) has but a thin line left from his son Ibn Jou (x Faten) who is in Qatar.

The 19 year old Ibn Jou has but one Egyptian son currently, Sakab Al Khaleej (x Bint Rahamat) who is himself 11 years old. Given the number of beautiful Egyptian Arabian mares in Qatar, it might be worth considering such a mating for a colt or two to preserve the sire line to Balance in that country.

So the Ibn Samhan sire line has had a challenge continuing a patriarchy, though it is a noted part of quality mare lines. The Ibn Samhan horses have long been horses for the horseman, the rider, competitor or jockey. As an outcross, they bear consideration for the future. There are so many beautiful Egyptian mares world wide now that type alone need not be a concern. With the genetic future in mind for the Egyptian horse, alternate sire lines are now a worthy choice to consider for the breeder in today’s gene pool. q

at 80th Venice Film Festival

On the occasion of the 80th Venice Film Festival, the Tutto Arabi booth welcomed visitors from September 6 to 9. It was a great success and an opportunity to meet friends and forge new relationships.

We thank those who together with us believed in this idea from the very beginning and provided their image and ideas giving creative energy to our presence in Venice.

Mindy Peters, who has long been by the side of the We, Women Project wanted to be present also at this juncture by donating the t-shirts created in collaboration with We, Women Project and which already at the Menton show had sold out. After the tremendous success in the VIP area of the Mediterranean & Arab Countries Arabian Horse Championship 2023 in terms of spreading the message in support of women and interest from an increasing number of people We, Women Project and Mindy Peters decided to take part in the Tutto Arabi initiative and to be present in Venice where the t-shirts were all worn bringing to the world the messages chosen to support women around the world: “When women support each other incredible things happen” “Shout out to all the amazing men who sincerely support women.”

Bigdungbag, a startup that is entering the world with a design product for which it holds the international patent and wants to position itself between the equestrian industry and the world of luxury. It proposes the prototype of a cross-use accessory for the entire equestrian world, a bag that allows to keep horses and environment clean and can be used in all areas of equestrian, sporting, morphological, advertising, artistic, photographic, and exhibition. Maggiolen Uscotti also decided to promote her startup in the pages of Tutto Arabi. She believes in innovation, beauty and hers is a design proposal applicable to the world of equestrian luxury.

Giancarlo Petriglia, an important name in Italian design who creates women’s bags that are true works of art in his Milan atelier-gallery where he welcomes many international fashion names who are his loyal customers. His creations are as precious as jewelry, one-of-a-kind pieces that are worn as luxurious red carpet accessories. The fabulous details are impeccably curated. We met Devis Palazzi and his wife Manuela Monti and discovered that they have a passion in common with us: the one for beauty and perfection. At Tutto Arabi, this passion is expressed in the love for Arabian horses. Devis Palazzi and his wife, on the other hand, translate this passion into the creation of unique jewellery, which stems from Palazzi’s goldsmith mastery and the unconditional love he shares with his wife for the perfection of nature. It was easy with this in mind to converse with them about aesthetics and introduce them to the world of the Arabian horse and its magnificence. They were immediately enraptured by the story of the ‘son of the wind’, the distinctive aesthetic traits of the Arabian horse and its ability to set the soul aflame with its own precious beauty, as much as the uniqueness and rarity of a masterfully crafted gemstone set in a unique piece of jewellery.

“A unique piece of jewellery is born from an intuition that becomes a work of art,” Devis Palazzi told us.

“Those I create are unique and unrepeatable pieces, made to capture and guard secret emotions. They are all born from the search for beauty that gives rise to the design of a piece of jewellery and characterises its every nuance, from the first pencil stroke on the sheet to the final result. The colours and shapes of precious stones, corals and pearls play with the imagination with ever new combinations and volumes. The line represents the highest expression of artistic talent that does not allow replicas to give the jewel, once worn, the opportunity to express its intent: to give back to the eyes what I caught in that moment of wonder and amazement. Wearing a unique piece of jewellery means understanding its emotional value and internalising it to give art a dynamic in space and time, the ability to walk through the world. To make a piece of jewellery I look for its most precious detail that makes it unique, that small imperfection that holds all the value and emotion of its elements.”

There are basically three jewellery lines offered in the atelier today:

Unique, unrepeatable and extraordinary jewellery, like the ideas that inspire him and the stones he uses. Unique, personalised pieces, the result of research and love for colours, design, volumes, art, music and life. These jewellery pieces are born from a unique process. Because unique are the stones that are used and unique is the work of Devis Palazzi.

Always new inspirations, a combination of colours that are different every time, plays of volumes, spaces and shapes.

No jewel is identical to another because no idea is identical to another.

To look alike is a way of feeling close while remaining different. Homologation is the enemy of art. Imagining, designing and realising a different detail each time, even a hidden one, gives soul and personality to the jewel and allows the artist to respect the precious materials and his work.

Every piece of jewellery in the collections of the (im) Perfect line maintains small details that make it unique: subtle differences inspired by nature and necessary to give value to each individual element and, above all, to the uniqueness of the wearer. Researching a detail is a way to test our curiosity, our desire to discover the truth of everything and to be admired in the observation of what it is... not what it appears. With this vision, we better understand the threads and key concepts of the (im)Perfect collections.

A piece of jewellery to tell a story, preserve it and pass it on. Desires, passions and goals can become wearable art.

Behind a Maecenas there is always the exceptionality of a synergy between the Master Goldsmith and the customer who together create the jewel. Shapes, plays of light and colours may arise from a family jewel, or from a new project that gives voice to something absolutely unique. It is this work of complicity with the artist that writes the story of our jewellery, draws its contours and makes it a unique experience. A pure expression of the inner world designed by four hands, the work that leads to the creation of a unique Maecenas jewel is dedicated to those who want more than a piece of jewellery, to those who recognise in stones, pearls and corals the representation of the best part of themselves.

“Just thinking about Maecenas jewellery,” Palazzi continues, “the idea of a unique piece of jewellery linked to the Arabian horse is developing, also following the conversation with Tutto Arabi and the excitement experienced in the Arabian horse events we have participated in so far, such as the 2022 Italian Championship of which we were also sponsors. The beauty of the horses I was able to admire so struck and captivated me that I could do nothing but let myself be carried away by all this beauty and begin to reflect on the possibility of bringing it into the jewellery I use to create, the stones and metals I use in my work. It would certainly be an enthralling adventure to design a piece of jewellery dedicated to the Arabian thoroughbred horse, one that could encapsulate all its morphological characteristics and its power, a piece of jewellery that would immediately evoke a burning passion, a sensation of strength, freedom, magnificence, that one could feel on the skin at first glance and that would immediately become desirable. Just as happens when you have the good fortune to observe a champion Arabian thoroughbred from close up, breathing in its essence, made of grace and power. I have already worked with projects made to order by customers who wanted a piece of jewellery

depicting an animal, either a favourite animal or an animal of their own. I fully understand the feeling of a client who wishes to wear a precious object such as a piece of jewellery that is able to immediately convey to him the bond with his animal, the love he feels, and that provokes in him that primordial emotion of human-animal bond, intense and at the same time elusive. To take on a subject like the Arabian horse would be an exciting challenge full of possibilities. My work is not just material, it is not just craftsmanship, although craftsmanship is a fundamental aspect of the service we offer because it determines the aesthetic traits and refinement of the jewellery we make. A fundamental part of my job, however, is to get in deep contact with the customer who asks me to give shape to an emotion. My job is to capture that emotion, that particular light in the eyes during a storytelling, and turn it into an object, a precious piece of jewellery, that evokes it every time, at every glance. Love, passion, bonds, memories, desires, fulfilments.”

A jewel can tell all this, it can become the silent narration of what cannot be expressed in words. In the skilful hands of master goldsmith Devis Palazzi gold and precious stones can take shape and life and can become messengers of what only an emotion can convey.
