Status: Under construction

Involvement: Authority submission(s)

Design Statement

Derived from the storyline and journey behind the ritual of NS Square (National Service Square) is the redevelopment of The Float @ Marina Bay, a temporary venue reaching the end of its lifespan which provided a stunning backdrop to events Inspired by Singapore’s strong character and its dense urban environment located within a lush tropical setting, the development will house a multifunctional, adaptable outdoor city-stage with sweeping views of Singapore’s iconic skyline, a gallery dedicated to Singapore’s National Service, public gardens and community sports facilities that are open year-round. It reinforces the identity of Singapore as a vibrant, liveable, resilient and sustainable city state, and connects and completes the loop of business, leisure, cultural and commercial precincts around Marina Bay

The architecture reinforces the centre of the stage as a centrifugal point, projecting and radiating outwards in rings, arcs and lines. With its curved grandstand in the tradition of ancient amphitheatres, it unlocks the potential of the location and brief The design of the 30,000-seat venue opens the building up on the ground level with a porous and sheltered plaza that connects Raffles Avenue to the stage and waterfront Vertically, the eight storeys are connected physically and visually in a central atrium, bringing together the entrances to the NS Gallery, F&B destinations, Gym, Pool and Viewing Gallery The concourses terminate as a series of City Decks that look back to Singapore’s skyline The design of the development activates the entire building with variety of activities and uses, making the full experience of the building greater than the sum of its parts.

An Urban Intervention

Location: Kampar, MALAYSIA

Tutors: Mohd Shahrudin (Dr.)

Status: Academic studies

Design Statement

Situated along Jalan Ipoh-Kampar, adjacent to Dataran Muhibbah, this urban intervention project incorporates the concept of parasitic architecture. The idea is to merge Kampar’s Old Town, an existing structure, with a new design that reshapes the interpretation of Kampar’s landscape

In this context, parasitic architecture refers to a flexible and often temporary structure that integrates with and depends on existing infrastructure and built forms The aim is to offer the public an untold journey through Kampar’s Old Town, beginning with an interactive staircase that incorporates kinetic motion.

What if architecture relies on host?

Founded in 1887, the town lies within the Kinta Valley. It was a tin mining town which boomed during the tin mining industry.

The Teratak Semai Project has clearly benefited the indigenous people (Orang Asli) community in three villages in Tapah, Perak, by providing them with the opportunity to learn these new techniques. Meanwhile, volunteers including staff, students, and alumni of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) have gained insights into the community’s traditional carpentry skills and handicraft production

Alter: ALCOM Rescue Shelter

PAASWE Student Competition 2021 Participant Theme: Rescue shelter

Design Statement

ALter is a modular unit incorporating ALCOM materials and scaffold framework, transportable solution, and configurations to promote life in resilient communities Measuring 3m wide, 6m long and 6m high with ground support, ALter aims to be easy to build and pleasant to inhabit allowing assembly by people with limited capabilities.

Malaysian House: A Flexible House

Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival 2020/21

3rd Place Winner

Theme: Malaysian house

Design Statement

With the rapid concentration of populations in cities, available lands are exhausted hence housing flexibility becomes a key feature to transform our daily lives Housing flexibility has undoubtedly offered the possibility of not only spatial and structural modification of building to meet the standards set by users to accommodate the rapidly changing world but also the ability to be a factor in maintaining sustainability. By extending the construction lifespan of buildings, we can now avoid obsolescence which can unarguably guarantee continual utilization.

Hence, through this proposal, an art gallery/workshop + home has been envisioned to provide ease and tranquility during the process of making art itself. By referring to traditional, vernacular Malay houses and the ingenious adaptations of courtyards and air-well in Chinese architecture, a housing scheme is designed In terms of the housing plan, the design takes thorough advantage of earth contours to separate the spaces in terms of hierarchy
