WHITMORE CUP Mrs Ella Whitmore was the 4th Principal of the Alice Smith School, taking over from Mrs Muir in 1959. Before she left Malaysia in 1961, she presented the school with a silver trophy. For the first 20 years the trophy was awarded to the best high jumper, with the first name recorded in 1960 continuing on every year until 1983. The cup was then lost but found again in 2013, after 30 years, during a clear out of an old cupboard. It was then decided to start awarding the Cup once again each year, in memory of Mrs Ella Whitmore, but this time for breaking any school athletics record, not just high jump. All school records over the year are considered and the Whitmore Cup is now awarded for the most significant school record broken each year.
