Dear colleagues, Welcome to our annual convention, the meeting place of the European construction equipment rental industry, and welcome to Paris.

As suggested by this year’s theme, “What’s on today?”, over the two days of the convention we will have the opportunity to discuss developments in our industry. One roundtable will be dedicated to rental markets in France, Italy and Sweden and our product roundtable will focus on modular space. Other roundtables will look at marketing as a tool to increase rental penetration, and financing. I also have the pleasure to announce that our roundtables on attracting and keeping talents and in-house vs. outsourced repair and maintenance of equipment, and indeed all Plenary Sessions, will be interpreted simultaneously into French.

The Plenary Session will be dedicated to providing you with an update on the state of the construction and rental industries in Europe. We will also hear from a number of high profile speakers on the challenges and opportunities for Europe’s economy and get an investor’s view on the rental industry. Our guest speaker, Jean-Christophe Rufin, will provide a broader picture on the world in which rental companies operate. Besides their traditional reporting on activities, the ERA’s Committees have prepared and will deliver presentations in relation to their main areas of concerns.

The Convention will also celebrate professionalism and expertise in our industry during the European Rental Awards dinner, organized jointly by the European Rental Association and International Rental News.

The ERA Annual General Assembly will also be an important event during the Convention where a new Board of Directors will be elected to guide the ERA in the coming years.

Finally, and with emotion, I could never thank enough our current president, Gérard Déprez for whom this is the last convention as ERA’s President. Without his vision, his support and his tenacity, ERA would not be the same or just not be at all.

PLENARY SESSION SPEAKERS Christine Le Forestier Rapporteur, Economic and Legal Commission, European Construction Industry Federation (FIEC) Christine Le Forestier is French. She studied French and German law at the University of Nanterre-Paris X and Potsdam Universität. In 2007, she graduated from the Master of European Affairs and Lobbying of the Université Catholique of Paris. Since then, she has been working at the European Construction Industry Federation (FIEC), based in Brussels. She is in charge of economic and legal affairs. Public procurement, infrastructure and statistics are amongst the many issues she is dealing with.

Alexandre Adler Journalist and Expert of Contemporary Geopolitics Alexandre Adler is a French historian, journalist and expert of contemporary geopolitics, the former USSR and the Middle East. After collaborating with French daily Libération from 1982 to 1992, he went on to become the editorial director of the Courrier International from 1992 to 2002, after which he served as an editorialist for the French daily of record Le Monde and collaborated with several French weeklies, including Le Point and L’Express. He currently sits on the editorial board of the French daily Le Figaro and is the current Scientific Director of the Chair of Geopolitics of the University Paris-Dauphine.

Marianne Chalcraft Chair of the ERA’s Committee on Statistics Marianne Chalcraft was trained at Bain and Company, where she worked on a wide variety of strategy consulting projects for multi-national clients in a range of industries. She subsequently worked for Burlington Consultants, specialising in commercial due diligence for private equity, and in market intelligence. Since 2003 she has worked for the Lavendon Group in market strategy roles. Marianne has been Chair of the ERA Statistics Committee since October 2010.

Basile Benoit Director, Equipment & Services, EMEA, Global Industrials Group, Deutsche Bank Basile joined Deutsche Bank ‘s Global Industrials team in 2009 and has over 12 years of investment banking experience covering M&A, Debt and Equity Capital Markets.
