City Council Corner HELLO RESIDENTS, Wow, we’ve made it to 2022! Can you believe it has been roughly two years since the start of the pandemic? It seems like only yesterday we began hearing news about the COVID-19 virus spreading throughout the world and life, as we knew it, came to a halt. As we continue to embrace this new normal of wearing masks, washing hands thoroughly, and taking other general precautions, I think we can all agree, we are still on quite the journey. As the Chair of the Southern Nevada Health District Advisory Board, I have become well-versed in the devastating effects that this pandemic has had on our community, but I also remain hopeful that with each passing day, our new normal will become closer to the normal we once knew in 2019. With that said, I hope you all have taken advantage – or will take advantage – of getting the COVID-19 vaccinations and booster shots that are offered to practically everyone, including older children. •On Nov. 1st we reduced watering days from 3 days a week to 1 day a week (Monday) This watering schedule will be in effect until March 1st, 2022.

•Between Thursday, October 14th, and Saturday, October 17th, the Arroyos between Springdale and Autumn Ridge were serviced. Also, the arroyo behind San Destin (Palazzo) was serviced. Weeds and debris removal were done to the Arroyo shelves. Our next schedule Arroyo service date is the second week of April 2022.

•We are continuing to overseed thin turf areas throughout the community. We will continue to overseed throughout November of 2021.

•As part of our tree management plan, on Monday, November 1st we started trimming trees on Deer Springs between Aliante Pkwy & Clayton. We will continue with tree trimming on Deer Springs between Aliante Pkwy & Aviary Way. Once we have completed those sections, we will start tree trimming on Aliante Pkwy between Centennial & the 215 HWY. Our goal is to trim every tree in the community

• We are trimming trees based on what is known in the industry as “Crown Lifting”. The Crown Lifting method involves cutting the lower branches of the tree’s crown

to lessen the mass of the larger limbs. We do this with the aim of clearing sidewalks, roads, and removing branches that may be conflicting with the wall structure. To avoid over-pruning and to lower the negative effect on the trees’ health, we will not be removing every tree branch that goes over a homeowner’s wall. Some of the taller tree branches will naturally hang above the homeowner’s wall.

•Why is Crown Lifting important? This process stimulates and creates a healthier tree structure and reduces the need for future corrective pruning.

•Also, as part of our winter pruning plan, we have started removing the lower branches off of the Texas Rangers around the community. Pruning the Texas ranger at the right time of year is another way to get more flowers on your Texas Rangers. It is important to prune before the plant starts actively growing.

•This method of pruning Texas ranger involves removing the lower branches and older wood from deep inside the canopy, this is done with the intention of keeping debris from collecting under the plant, for health and aesthetics purposes, and also, to reinvigorate flowering. Texas Ranger pruning is done with our regular maintenance schedule.

•On November 1st our irrigation schedule changed to 1 day a week (Monday) and it will be in effect until February 28th, 2022.

•The flowers on all pots in the community will be replaced in the following weeks, and we will use red and white pansies to go along with the Aliante Holiday theme.
