hen Caleb Hathaway arrived in Salida with his team of well-seasoned Iditarod sled dogs back in 2011, he brought a taste of the Alaskan experience with him. Now in their eighth season of offering kid-friendly dog sled rides, Hathaway and his wife Deanna are enthusiastic about introducing guests to the sport of mushing with their personal, hands-on tours,

and they love helping people enjoy the wilderness without having to work so hard. Tours include a 3040 minute ride, interactions with the dogs, and a brief talk about the area’s mining history. The sledding season is snow dependent, but typically runs November to mid April. Reservations are required in advance, especially during peak holiday times.
