ARTYale-educated, colorful, abstract artist and Argentinian tango dancer Dvora Kanegis’s artistic focus shifted to Venetian plaster painting in 2011 after moving to Salida. “Painting on Venetian plaster is somewhat like fresco painting. I paint thin watery acrylic paint in many layers…Each layer shows through the previous layers…the result is luminous, with an illusion of space.” Dvora’s work ranges from large format (72” x 72”) to very small, and 13 years later, her primary preferred painting

Her 25 years of dance experience informs her work—Dvora frequently represents abstracted tango dancers in her paintings, incorporating emotional color and rhythmic movement. Founded in 1994, ArkAnglers is the original guide service and fly shop in the Upper Arkansas River fishery, and the only full-service, fully-permitted outfitter in the region. “We pioneered many of the techniques and processes that other fishing guides now take for granted,” co-founder Greg Felt explains. ArkAnglers offers float and wade fishing on the

Arkansas River, the Upper South Platte, and the San Isabel National Forest’s high mountain lakes and streams. Greg recommends half or full-day (gear included) 1-2 person float trips for experienced guests and 1-3 person wading trips for firsttimers. For over 30 years, SPOT volunteers have improved and helped build more than 10 miles of trails in Salida, including the Monarch Spur Trail, and the Rodeo Run, connecting Salida to Poncha Springs. As a nonprofit, SPOT prioritizes historic preservation, public park improvements, open-space acquisition, maintenance, and ecological restoration. Projects

include Hutchinson Homestead & Learning Center, the Poncha Springs Disc Golf Course, and Valley View School. Long term, SPOT volunteers will continue to create new trail connections to fill in gaps in local trail systems, in turn promoting more county-wide travel on foot or bike.
