Hazrat Abu Hurairahra reported that Allah’s Messengersa said, “Angels alternate in shifts among you, those by night and those by day, and they convene at the times of the morning (Fajr) and afternoon (Asr) prayers.

Those who have been with you through the night then ascend, and their Lord, who is fully aware of their state, inquires, ‘How did you leave My servants?’ They respond, ‘We departed from them while they were praying, and we approached them while they were praying.’” (Sahih al-Bukhari, kitab at-tawhid, Bab kalam ar-rabbi ma‘a jibrila wa nida’illahi l-mala’ikah, Hadith 7486)

Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas, In His Own Words

Fear of contravening Allah’s commands “A person who intentionally neglects prayers throughout the year with the intention of compensating on the day he has designated for qaza-e-‘umri is indeed sinful. However, an individual who repents with remorse and performs [the prayers] with the resolve to never forsake them again incurs no blame. In this regard, we merely echo the response of Hazrat Alira [that he was hesitant to forbid a person from performing prayers at an irregular time, citing his fear of violating the verse: ‘Hast thou seen him who forbids a servant (of Ours) when he prays?’

(Surah al-‘Alaq, Ch.96: V.10-11)].”

the complete devotion and obedience of Prophet Abrahamas and Prophet Ishmaelas, who were ready to give their lives and sacrifice the son at Allah’s command.”

Huzooraa explained that Eid al-Adha is celebrated in remembrance of the aforementioned act when both father and son, divinely inspired in a dream, were prepared to lay the knife on the neck and be sacrificed. However, Allah the Almighty acknowledged their devotion, which they showed following His revelation, and instead, commanded them to sacrifice a lamb. Consequently, in commemoration of their sacrifice, Muslims across the globe sacrifice thousands upon thousands of animals.

Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa said when we possess such passion to sacrifice everything while treading the path of righteousness, only then will this spirit be considered the true sacrifice. However, these days people are seen bidding on animals of sacrifice and the essence of sacrifice is absent.

Huzooraa said: “As for the so-called religious scholars, they have poisoned people’s minds in the name of religion. In Pakistan, the concept of religious scholars’ monopoly has grown to such an extent that they can go to any lengths of oppression. Ahmadis, in particular, are targeted by this injustice.

According to these clerics, for Ahmadis to perform Eid prayers or offer sacrifices is considered a grievous crime, and they are willing to go to any extreme to enforce punishment for it.”

Huzooraa emphasised that these clerics go as far as ordering the killing of Ahmadis in the name of Islam and rewards of Paradise. Incidents in previous years show that authorities imprisoned many Ahmadis on the basis of practising Islam. Some similar incidents this year have emerged as well.

Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa highlighted that only God Almighty accepts the sacrifice of His servants. Many Ahmadis kept themselves from performing sacrifice owing to the given circumstances. Huzooraa gave the example of the acceptance of Hajj of a person who did not even go to perform

the pilgrimage but his Hajj was accepted owing to a righteous deed, and God rejected the Hajj of thousands even though they performed it. Huzooraa expressed that Allah the Almighty, in the same way, can surely accept the sacrifices of Ahmadis. God says:

ّۡ ۡ َ� ّ َ َ ّ ّ �ٰ َ َ َ� ۡ َ ‫اَل الّٰل َُه ْل َّحَوۡ َّم َُہا َ​َولَ​َا ِ​ِد َ​َمٓاؤ َُها َ​َوْلٰ ُِک ۡ​ۡن �يَناْل ُّه اْلَتَق َٰوۡی َِمَنُک ُۡم‬ ‫ْلۡن يَن‬

“Their flesh reaches not Allah, nor does their blood, but it is your righteousness that reaches Him.” (Surah al-Hajj, Ch.22: V.38) Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa said Ahmadis know the spirit of the above verse and tread the path of righteousness. Surely, Ahmadis feel anxious when they can’t perform the sacrifice but understanding the essence of righteousness, they are satisfied.

May Allah grant guidance to these clerics.

Huzooraa said: “Instead of following the commands of the Holy Prophetsa, these people want to spread their self-made religion. Allah Himself says that those who kill someone who recites the creed or practice their faith will face His punishment and end up in Hell.

So, can they escape Allah’s wrath? [They can save themselves] if only they would use their reason and listen to the words of Allah and His Messengersa and act accordingly “Ahmadis, who are steadfast in their faith and are sincerely sacrificing their lives, wealth, and emotions, surely their deeds are accepted in the eyes of Allah. This is indeed a period of sacrifice, which, God willing, shall pass. Therefore, in these circumstances, we should bow even more before Allah.

We should intensify our supplications so much that Allah’s mercy hastens to help the oppressed and seize the oppressors.

“We should ask Allah that we are prepared to follow the practice of Prophet Abrahamas and perfectly obey the Holy Prophet Muhammadsa by being ready for every kind of sacrifice, be it of life, wealth, or emotions. Whether our goats and cows are sacrificed or not, we are ready for this sacrifice. So, if Allah accepts our prayers and intentions, surely, He will accept our sacrifices as He has promised. However, the condition for all of this is piety.”

Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa added that if we tread the path of righteousness, and

fulfil the rights of God and His creation, we will surely bring about a revolution in the world. We should always remember that the sacrifice of Prophet Abrahamas and Prophet Ishmealas was symbolic for the future revolution.

The Promised Messiahas said: “The true sacrifice lies in the purity of hearts. Flesh and blood are not the real sacrifices. While ordinary people offer the sacrifice of animals, the special ones sacrifice their hearts. However, God has not abolished apparent sacrifices [of animals] either, to show that these sacrifices also have a connection with mankind.”

Huzooraa said this is the spirit of sacrifice that we should instil in every member of the Jamaat. Only then we can bring about a revolution for which the Promised Messiahas was sent in servitude of the Holy Prophetsa.

God willing, we will not heed to temporary efforts of these clerics. It is the promise of God to the Promised Messiahas. We should not feel concerned that these nominal scholars have stopped us from practicing Islam, as they are no way near Islam and its teachings.

Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa emphasised that these people are trying to become God, but we should focus on righteous and the true spirit of sacrifice. The Promised Messiahas said it is necessary for our Jamaat to tread the path of righteousness, as they are connected to such a person who has been appointed by Allah the Almighty, so that all those who are spiritual ill may regain health. God says:

َ �ٰ َ َ� َ ‫َ​َو َ​َم ۡ​ۡن �ي َ​َتَوَُك ِّۡل َ​َعِلی الّٰل ُِه َف ُّہَوَ َْح َّۡس ّب ُٗه‬

“And he who puts his trust in Allah — He is sufficient for him.” (Surah at-Talaq, Ch.65: V.4) The Promised Messiahas said the prayers of a righteous person are accepted.

Huzooraa said these hardships and persecutions are there to help us rise and soar even higher. We should not be worried about these vain efforts of clerics. We should never be concerned about any kind of hostility and always seek the pleasure of Allah the Almighty.

Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa said:

“May Allah make this Eid blessed in every way for Ahmadis around the world, and may we soon witness a revolution resulting from their sacrifices.

“Eid Mubarak to the Ahmadis of Pakistan as well. For the past several days, [my] focus has been on them. The situation has been quite dire there. May Allah bring about the fruition of their sacrifices soon.

Even today, on Eid, rioters attacked in Kotli, vandalising the mosque. In some places, Ahmadis were not even allowed to perform Eid prayers. Despite the government’s promises of protection, local authorities often act according to their own will.

Nevertheless, our complete reliance is on Allah, and we must continue to bow before Him. “May Allah swiftly turn the suffering of Ahmadis into joy. Wherever in the world Ahmadis are enduring pain and sacrifice, may relief come soon. Remember to continuously bow before Allah in all circumstances and strive to elevate the standards of your worship.

“Keep the families of the martyrs in your prayers. May Allah regard every drop of the martyrs’ blood with such love that it brings about a revolution. May the sacrifices of these martyrs lead to a profound transformation in their progeny, strengthening their bond with faith more than ever before.

“Pray for the early release of all prisoners, especially the woman imprisoned in Yemen.

May Allah grant succour to all the others, granting them swift freedom. May Allah abundantly reward every Ahmadi making sacrifices in any form and keep every Ahmadi steadfast in piety.

“Pray for the Palestinians as well; may Allah swiftly rescue them from the grinding oppression they face, and show them mercy.

May this Eid be filled with blessings for all Ahmadis. May peace, tranquility, and safety prevail globally, and may the people of the world come to recognise the One True God, for only then can true peace be established on earth.”

After the conclusion of the Eid sermon, Huzooraa led everyone in silent prayer, and then conveyed “Eid Mubarak” to all.

Khuddam from MKA USA East Region meet Huzoor at Islamabad

On Saturday, 15 June 2024, a delegation of Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya from the USA’s East Region was blessed with the opportunity for an in-person mulaqat with Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih Vaa, at Islamabad, Tilford, UK. Upon his arrival in the MTA studio, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa greeted everyone with salaam. This was followed by a personalised introduction from each khadim, allowing them to share their names, family backgrounds, and current engagements, including their Jamaat duties and their professional or academic pursuits.

Throughout the mulaqat, the khuddam also asked questions and received guidance from beloved Huzooraa.

Zohan Ahmad Sahib was the first to introduce himself. He introduced himself as the local qaid of Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya Wellingborough, New Jersey, and shared his professional background as an estate agent. He recounted his roots, mentioning he was born in Pakistan before moving to the United States in 2004.

Huzooraa asked, “How many khuddam are in your local majlis?” Zohan Sahib replied that they have 85 members.

Discussing the purpose of their visit, Zohan Sahib expressed, “We came to pray behind Huzooraa.” Huzooraa smiled and asked, “And to enjoy Islamabad?” Zohan Sahib added, “Yes, and to experience Khilafat first-hand.”

As the conversation continued, Huzooraa asked, when the delegation was going back, to which Zohan Sahib mentioned their departure was scheduled for the 23rd, after Eid. Huzooraa kindly noted the khuddam’s good fortune in receiving his time, especially close to Eid, a period during which he is

typically extremely busy and less available for such mulaqats.

Next, Safeer Ahmad Sahib stood up and introduced himself. He then asked a question about the roles of various Muslim factions who were involved in the current conflict in the Holy Land.

Huzooraa noted that such groups are often products of larger geopolitical strategies and might not necessarily serve the interests of Muslims. Huzooraa emphasised the limited effectiveness of such groups against major powers and the importance of unity among Muslim nations, saying that unless all 54 Muslim countries unite, these small groups can’t do anything. Huzooraa advised continued prayers for unity and wisdom among Muslim leaders and highlighted the complexity of the situation.

Aqib Hadi Sahib introduced himself next during the mulaqat. Aqib Sahib also said they wanted to visit Huzooraa and pray behind him. Huzooraa smiled and remarked that they had left their families behind during Eid to come and visit him.

Farhan Ahmad Sahib was the next to introduce himself. When Huzooraa enquired about his involvement in the Jamaat, Farhan Sahib mentioned that he had served as the local muhasib. He also shared that his granduncle was Muzaffar Ahmad Shaheed of the USA. Next, Nameer Bhatti Sahib, hailing from Philadelphia, introduced himself and shared details about his family background.

He said he is the grandson of Abdul Sami Bhatti Sahib of Kunri, Sindh, Pakistan.

Taseer Bhatti Sahib, aged 34, also from Philadelphia, introduced himself and mentioned that he is the younger brother of Nameer Bhatti Sahib.

Next, Taseer Bhatti Sahib informed

Call to prayer for Ahmadis in Pakistan and a tribute to two martyrs During his Friday Sermon, delivered on 14 June 2024, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih Vaa said: “Finally, I would like to especially request prayers for the Ahmadis in Pakistan. They are currently facing renewed hardships.

May Allah the Almighty swiftly deliver the Ahmadis in Pakistan from these oppressors and improve their circumstances. They are subjected to false legal action over trifling matters as part of sustained efforts to harass them.”

Following this, Huzooraa paid tribute

to two martyrs, recently martyred in Sadullah Pur, Mandi Bahauddin, Pakistan.

The first was the esteemed Ghulam Sarwar Shaheed, son of Bashir Ahmad Sahib, and the second was the esteemed Rahat Ahmad Bajwa Shaheed, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bajwa Sahib. Huzooraa offered prayers for these martyrs and their bereaved families.

Furthermore, after the Friday prayer, he led the funeral prayers of the martyrs.

Huzooraa that he was born in Maryland, USA. He has a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and a master’s degree in biomedical sciences. Currently, under the guidance of Huzooraa, Taseer Sahib is exploring career opportunities in the public health field.

Huzooraa advised him to take care of his family and strive to be a substantial

provider, emphasising the importance of familial responsibilities.

and moved to the United States in 2015.

At 23 years old, Ahmad Sahib is pursuing a degree in computer science. He is currently completing his bachelor’s programme and has plans to advance to a master’s degree in the same field. Alongside his studies, Ahmad Sahib has embarked on an entrepreneurial venture in real estate.

Ahmad Sahib enquired about beloved Huzoor’saa health, noting that Huzooraa had recently undergone a medical procedure.

Next, Abdul Mujeeb Othman, aged 25, originally from Nigeria, shared details about his heritage and current life in the United States. Huzooraa asked if he was from the Yoruba tribe, to which he replied in the affirmative. He added that he moved to the US in 2015 and works as a registered nurse at a hospital and also serves in the US Army.

Abdul Mujeeb Sahib expressed his concerns to Huzooraa about serving in the army during current global conflicts, recognising the moral dilemmas that could arise. Huzooraa advised him to consider joining the medical corps within the army instead, which would align more closely with his nursing skills and potentially keep him away from direct involvement in any cruelty, focusing instead on humanitarian aspects of military service. Nevertheless, Huzooraa emphasised that as long as one was employed by the army, one would have to obey orders, regardless. A soldier does not have the option to excuse himself at the time of combat; therefore, it is wise to align one’s work as suggested or leave the army beforehand.

Next, Armaghan Mirza Sahib, aged 24, from Central Jersey Jamaat, introduced himself. He said he was a great-grandson of Hazrat Mian Nur Muhammadra of Pir Kot. Referring to the “Four Days without a Shepherd” MTA documentary, Armaghan Sahib asked Huzooraa if he had had any indication from Allah or premonition regarding his being elected as the Khalifa before the election.

Huzooraa replied: “I didn’t receive anything, even till the last moment. I was just embarrassed that I had been elected as Khalifa and you could see it in my face at that time. It was quite embarrassing for me.”

Armaghan Sahib then mentioned that he currently serves at the local and regional levels within the Jamaat, including in the Tabligh Department and that there are about 415 da’i il-Allah (preachers) in the United States and requested prayers for them. In response, Huzooraa smiled and said, “You should increase the number of your da’i ilAllah to 4000 instead of 400.”

Additionally, Armaghan Sahib shared his personal feelings about his current job at a bank, mentioning a sense of unfulfillment and a strong desire to contribute more significantly to the Jamaat.

Huzooraa advised that whenever he has time during the week or over the weekends, he should dedicate it to Jamaat activities.

He emphasised that, particularly for those serving as Secretary Tabligh or as part of the tabligh team, greater efforts towards tabligh should be made. Huzooraa suggested setting a target of 10 new converts each year.

Next to introduce himself was Oshaz Bajwa Sahib. He shared his family background and conveyed greetings from

his family. He informed Huzooraa of the various departments in the Jamaat he serves, upon which Huzooraa humorously commented, “I don’t think that there is a shortage of people in America; every post has been given to you.”

He also asked a question regarding the meaning of being part of the “Noah’s Ark”, mentioned by the Promised Messiahas.

Huzooraa stressed that salvation is conditional upon one’s sincerity, love for Allah, and adherence to His commands as outlined in the Holy Quran. He highlighted the following couplet from the writings of the Promised Messiahas that stresses salvation for those who genuinely love Allah:

to turn away from such situations and to engage in frequent prayers and recitations of istighfar (seeking forgiveness) to strengthen his resolve. Huzooraa said: “Allah Ta‘ala says:

‫��ر���ا�ذوا����ر‬

َّ​َ ْ َ ّ �ٰ ْ َ ‫َأ ْۡس َ​َتَغ َِف َّر الّٰل َُه َ​َرِب ِ� ْی َِم ْۡن ُك ِ �ِّل ۡذَن ٍُّب �َوَأۡتَوْ ّب ِ​ِإْل َ ْۡي ُِه‬

������‫آگ��آگ�وہ‬

“There is a fire, but all those shall be saved from this fire who possess love for the God of Great Wonders.”

Huzooraa said: “You have to judge yourself; do you have that in-depth love for Allah Ta‘ala in your heart? All those who do, they will be saved. So, discharge the duties you owe to Allah Ta‘ala and discharge the duties you owe to your fellow beings. Then you will be saved, Insha-Allah.”

Oshaz Sahib requested prayers for the well-being and spiritual strength of the Ahmadi youth of America. Huzooraa prayed: “Allah Ta‘ala bless you. Allah Ta‘ala bless your Jamaat., bless your khuddam and make them sincere in their faith and make them strong and staunch Ahmadis.” Amin.

Next, Tasleem Muzaffar Sahib introduced himself as a member of the Harrisburg Jamaat. He shared his extensive academic journey, which includes a master’s degree from Germany, a PhD from Canada in Artificial Intelligence, and his current role as a senior data analyst in the USA. Additionally, he said, he also volunteers with the Ahmadiyya Lawyers’ Association among other roles.

Tasleem Sahib asked a question regarding the ethical implications of actions that, despite good intentions, might result in unintended harm to others. He expressed concern about how to reconcile the sincerity of one’s intentions with the adverse outcomes that might befall others.

Huzooraa responded by referencing a hadith of the Holy Prophetsa, emphasising that actions are judged by intentions.

He reassured Tasleem Sahib that if one’s intentions are genuinely good and the actions are not intentionally harmful, Allah will recognise the sincerity and overlook any unintentional mistakes. “In whatever you do, always remember that Allah is watching you, and if you have the fear of Allah in your heart when doing something, then there is no need to fear anybody else,” Huzooraa said.

Umar Kamal introduced himself as a member of the Harrisburg Jamaat, currently studying cybersecurity at Penn State University.

Umar Sahib sought advice on how to navigate the challenges and temptations common in college environments, such as exposure to drugs, alcohol, social pressures, etc. He expressed concern about maintaining his moral and spiritual integrity amidst such influences.

Huzooraa emphasised the importance of actively distancing oneself from such negative influences. He advised Umar Sahib

ۡ َ� ّ ‫ُّه ُۡم َ​َع ِۡن اْلَلَغ َِو َّم ۡ​ۡعٌرِ​ِضَوۡ َ​َن‬

“[‘They shun all that which is vain.’ (Surha al-Mu’minun, Ch.23: V.4)] “When you see all this nonsense, turn your face from them and turn the other way; this is how you can save yourself.

“Recite the following repeatedly:

َ َ� َ �ٰ ّ ّ َ َ‫ۡيُطاَن ا �ْلٌر‬ ‫ۡيُم‬ ‫َج‬ ‫َأَعَوۡذ ِ​ِبالّٰل ُِه َِمۡن اْلۡش‬ ِ ِ ِ

“[‘I seek refuge with Allah, from Satan, the accursed.’]

“Also recite: “[‘I beg pardon from Allah, my Lord, for all my sins, and turn to Him.’] “Moreover, offer your five daily prayers and pray to Allah that he saves you from all those bad things; the evils of society.”

Huzooraa likened the struggle against temptation to a wrestling match between one’s faith and Satan, underscoring the need to be resolute and determined to uphold one’s values.

Next, Taha Ahmad Sahib, a member of the Wellingborough Jamaat, shared that he is currently in his second year at university studying computer science.

Taha Sahib raised a concern regarding the role of fathers in the upbringing of children, specifically noting that fathers often have a laid-back attitude, leaving the burden of children’s moral and educational development on mothers. He highlighted the challenges this poses, especially as boys grow older and may not listen as attentively to their mothers.

Huzooraa addressed the issue by emphasising the critical role of fathers in actively participating in their sons’ upbringing. He noted the importance of Jamaat support structures, such as Atfalul Ahmadiyya and Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya, in providing positive influences and mentorship for such boys. Huzooraa suggested that the auxiliaries should identify

well-trained youths of similar ages to foster friendships that enhance the other boys’ connections to Jamaat activities and values.

“Also, ask the fathers that they should also bear the responsibility and give attention to their children,” Huzooraa said.

Huzooraa also called on the broader Jamaat structures, including Majlis Atfalul Ahmadiyya, Majlis Ansarullah and Lajna Imaillah, to collaborate in supporting mothers and engaging fathers in their children’s lives. He stressed that while the challenge is significant, concerted effort and commitment from both parents and Jamaat are essential for the effective moral training of the next generation.

“Help the mothers. Ask the mothers what type of help they need from you and then extend that help to them,” Huzooraa said.

Finally, Zeeshan Zafar, aged 21, raised a concern about khuddam who relocate for studies or other reasons, asking how they can maintain their connection with the Jamaat.

Huzooraa emphasised the importance of a robust support system within the Jamaat to ensure that young members remain engaged and connected when they move to new locations. He advised that the local Jamaat structures should be proactive and welcoming, immediately integrating newcomers into their activities. The Jamaat’s administrative system should swiftly integrate relocating members to keep them engaged. The role of the Secretary Tarbiyat and Nazim Tarbiyat is crucial in reaching out to new arrivals to make them feel included.

Individual Ahmadis should also take the personal initiative to connect with the local Jamaat when they move. The Jamaat should act quickly to integrate relocating members to prevent them from drifting away or being influenced by external, potentially negative, influences.

The mulaqat concluded with a group photo and Huzooraa graciously distributing pens among the khuddam. In the end, Huzooraa conveyed his salaam, bringing the session to a close.

Arafah: The day the religion of Islam was complete

Imagine accomplishing in a single day what one would spend their entire lives striving to achieve. Picture yourself deepening your connection with your Creator in just one day. The Day of Arafah offers this unique opportunity – a day when Allah frees more people from Hell than on any other (​​Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-hajj, Hadith 1348). It’s a time when He draws near and asks: “What do these people desire?” (​​Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-hajj, Hadith 1348)

It is essential we also recognise the profound significance of the Day of Arafah, as it is not only a day of immense blessings but also the day when the religion was perfected.

The famous verse of the Holy Quran:

What is Arafat?

Arafat is a plain or valley situated near Mecca where pilgrims gather during the latter part of the ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah.

The area spans about a mile and a half in circumference, with sloping sides that rise almost two hundred feet above the surrounding plain. Located nine miles from Mecca, this gathering, known as wuquf, is a key component of the Hajj pilgrimage.

The name Arafat comes from the Arabic word ‘arafa, which means “he knew” or “recognised.” (Five Volume Commentary, Vol.1, p. 321)

What is the significance of the Day of Arafah?

9th Dhul-Hijjah is known as the Day of Arafah. A day of great significance for Muslims, particularly for those performing Hajj. On this day, pilgrims gather in the plain of Arafat, near Mecca, to perform the key ritual of standing (wuquf) at Arafat, as the Holy Prophet is reported to have said: “This is the station of standing, and all of Arafat is a station of standing.” (Sunan Ibn Majah, Kitab al-manasik, Hadith 3010) He also stated that it is considered the pinnacle and core of the Hajj:

“Hajj is Arafah, Hajj is Arafah, Hajj is Arafah.” (Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi, Kitab tafsiri l-qur’ani ‘an rasulillahsa, 2975)

Fasting on the Day of Arafah For Muslims who are not on Hajj, the Day of Arafah is also important. It is recommended to fast on this day, as the Holy Prophetsa stated that it expiates sins from the previous year and the coming year. (Sahih Muslim, Kitab as-siyam, Hadith 1162b) The day is marked by prayers, supplications, and seeking forgiveness from Allah. It falls in the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah which is known for the days in which worship is most beloved to Allah. (Sunan Ibn Majah, Kitab as-siyam, Hadith 1728) Abu Qatadah narrated that Allah’s Messengersa said: “By fasting on the Day of Arafah, I hope for Allah’s forgiveness for the sins of the previous year and the coming year.” (Sunan Ibn Majah, Kitab as-siyam, Hadith 1730)

It is out of the sheer mercy of Allah that the desire to seek forgiveness is instilled in our hearts, fueling our supplications. Therefore, know that when you seek forgiveness, it is Allah who has placed that desire in your heart.

Additionally, we are provided with specific days during which Allah has informed us He is most forgiving. As Muslims, we believe that Allah is always forgiving, as His mercy encompasses everything and is not limited to any specific place or time.

Hazrat Aishara Sadiqa reported that Allah’s Messengersa said: “There is no day on which Allah frees more people from Hell than the Day of Arafah. He draws close to them and then proudly speaks of them to the angels, saying: ‘What do these people desire?’” (​​Sahih Muslim, Kitab al-hajj, Hadith 1348) So, on this day, let us make it a vital point to seek His forgiveness.

What is the best supplication (du‘a) on the Day of Arafah?

The Holy Prophetsa declared said: “The best supplication is the supplication made on the Day of Arafah. The best of what I and the Prophets before me have said is:

َ ُ ْ ْ َ �ٰ َ� ْ َ َ​َ ‫لَا ِ​ِإَل َ َ​َه ِ​ِإلَّا الّٰل ُ​ُه َ​َو ْ​ْح َ​َد ُ​ُه لَا َش ِ​ِريَك َل َ ُ​ُه َل َ ُ​ُه اْلُمُْلُك َ​َوَل َ ُ​ُه اْل َ​َح ْ​ْم ُ​ُد َ​َو ُ​ُهَوَ َ​َعَلى‬ ٌ ‫ُك ُ �ِّل َ​َش ْ​ْي ٍ​ٍء َ​َق ِ​ِد‬ ‫يٌر‬ ِ

“None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs all that exists, and to Him belongs all praise, and He is powerful over all

“This day have I perfected your religion for you and completed My favour upon you and have chosen for you Islam as religion.”

(Surah al-Ma’idah, Ch.5: V.4) Thus, we find in a hadith narration that the Jews remarked to Hazrat Umarra: “You Muslims recite a verse, and had it been revealed to us, we would have designated the day of its revelation as a day of celebration.” Hazrat Umarra responded: “I am well aware of the precise time and location of its revelation, as well as where Allah’s Messengersa was at that moment. It was revealed on the Day of Arafah (the Hajj Day), and indeed, I was present at Arafah.”

Stand on this Day of Arafah And so, as the pilgrims stand on this day at the site of Arafat, let us all stand, wherever we may be on this earth, in prayer and supplicate to the One who enabled us to see this blessed day. Make a list of all that you wish to seek from God and further make efforts to achieve those goals. One cannot pray to Allah to make them a true servant if they do not make the effort themselves.

Thus, embody the religion and use this day and the rest of our lives to become an embodiment of all that you seek from Allah.

For we know that the Imam Mahdi, Hazrat Ahmadas, stated: “Seeking forgiveness from God is the key to spiritual progress.”

This Week in History A glimpse into the rich history of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat

21 June 21 June 1908: On this day, the Promised Messiah’sas essay, Paighame-Sulh (A Message of Peace), was read out before a large gathering of over 4,000 people from different religions at the Punjab University Hall, Lahore. Reporting on this, The Tribune of Lahore wrote on 23 June 1908, under the heading “Mirza Gholam Ahmed’s Last Message—A Message of Peace”: “At the University Hall, Lahore, on the morning of Sunday, the 21st June, at 7 am, an unusually large audience assembled to hear the Message of Peace of the late Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian. The spacious hall was crowded to its utmost capacity and the audience numbered at its lowest computation at about five thousand. It was a representative gathering of men of different creeds and sects. Hindus, Mahomedans, Sikhs, Aryas, Brahmos and Christians all were numerously represented.”

22 June 1957: On this day, Hazrat Sir Chaudhry Zafrulla Khanra inaugurated the first Ahmadiyya Muslim mosque in Hamburg, Germany.

Many distinguished guests from England, Holland, Switzerland, and Sweden participated in the ceremony, including journalists and press and television correspondents.

Sahibzada Mirza Mubarak Ahmad Sahib read out the special message of Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra. (Tarikh-eAhmadiyyat, Vol. 18, p. 467) 22 June 1983: On this day, a commemorative ceremony was held to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of the inaugural Ahmadiyya Muslim mosque in Switzerland, the Mahmud Mosque. During this event, a message from Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh was read aloud. (Silsila Ahmadiyya, Vol. 4, p. 824)

23 June 1927: On this day, Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra issued a significant message to the Muslims of India, declaring that his Jamaat would be fully committed to upholding the honour of the Holy Prophetsa, in accordance with Islamic principles.

He then called for unity among Muslims.

25 June 1993: On 24 June 1993, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh reached North Cape, Norway, one of the northernmost accessible points in Europe. It was a momentous occasion when, for the first time in history, a Khalifatul Masih led the Maghrib and Isha prayers in this unique setting.

The following day (25 June 1993), he delivered his Friday Sermon from this very location. This event marked the fulfilment of the prophecy that in the Latter Days, there would be unusually long days, necessitating the estimation of time for the observance of the five daily prayers.

Can you make every type of loud announcement in marketplaces?

Can you travel for entire days and stay awake throughout the night?

. Can you perform e‘tikaf i.e. can you sit in one place for days, sit and recite prayers and refrain from talking to anyone for days?

. Can you travel alone and bear your expenses without having any money in your pocket for yourself and live among enemies, opponents, strangers and unfamiliar people for days, weeks or months?

26 - 27 June 26 June 1920: An Arabic newspaper of New York, Al-Bayan reported on this day, about the visit of Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Sadiqra, as follows: [Translation] “The Islamic Community in Detroit, Michigan, has held a general body meeting on 14 June for the reception of Mr Mufti Muhammad Sadiq, one of the best men of India.

He has come all the way from New York especially just to visit the Islamic community here in this city.”

27 June 1905: On this day, Hazrat Hakim Maulvi Noor-ud-Dinra marked the completion of the first reading of the Holy Quran by his son, Abdul Hayy Sahib. Under the guidance of the Promised Messiahas, he also arranged food for people. On this occasion, Hazrat Sahibzada Mirza Bashir-ud-Din Mahmud Ahmadra wrote a poem, and a special issue of Al Hakam was also published.

. Do you believe that some men are above every type of defeat and do not like to hear the word “defeat”? Do you believe that such men are ready to carve their way through mountains and alter the flow of rivers? Do you think that you can prepare yourself to make such sacrifices?

. Do you have enough strength to say “Yes” while the whole world says “No”; to observe everyone laughing around you, while you remain unshaken; to have someone chase after you and tell you, “Stop! We will kill you!” and you pause and say, “Go on!”, while presenting your head to them; to not listen to anyone because people can lie, but you have everyone listen to you because you are truthful?

. Can you refrain from saying, “I made every effort, but God prevented me from being successful”, and instead, consider every failure to be of your own doing? Can you be certain that everyone who makes an effort eventually succeeds and that whoever is unsuccessful did not make any effort?

If you can answer the above affirmatively, then you have the capability of being a good missionary and businessman. But where are you? A man of God has been in need of you for a long time?

O Ahmadi youth! Find that person in your regions, in your cities, in your villages, in your households and in your hearts, for the tree of Islam is withering away. Only through such a person’s blood can it be revived.

Ayat-ul-Kursi – The chief of all verses

Slumber seizes Him not, nor sleep. To Him belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth.

Who is he that will intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them; and they encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He pleases. His knowledge extends over the heavens and the earth; and

the care of them burdens Him not; and He is the High, the Great.” (Surah al-Baqarah, Ch.2: V.256) Known as Ayat-ul-Kursi – this verse is considered to be the greatest verse in the Holy Quran for it addresses the Unity of God Almighty and emphasises His attributes.

In the Five Volume Commentary, the important words within the verse are explained with their meaning: “‫ الحی‬- the Living, of which the verb form is ‫ حیی‬i.e., he lived or he had life, is an attribute of God, signifying that God is the only Being Who is deathless and lives by Himself—He needs no support, He is eternal and everlasting (Mufradat & Lane).

This is “life” in the truest sense of the word, and such life is enjoyed by God alone. “‫ القیوم‬- Self-Subsisting and AllSustaining, is another attribute of God. The word is derived from ‫ قام‬i.e., he stood erect. ‫ القیوم‬means, the Being Who not only stands by Himself, requiring the support of none, but Who supports all others (Mufradat & Aqrab).

“‫ – سنة‬slumber, is the noun-infinitive from ‫ وسن‬i.e., sleep or slumber took hold of him. ‫ سنة‬means, heaviness of limbs and eyes preceding sleep; sleep or slumber itself; negligence or unguardedness (Aqrab) “‫ کرسی‬- knowledge is derived from ‫ کرس‬.

They say ‫ کرس البناء‬i.e., he raised the walls of a house. ‫ کرسی‬means, a throne or a chair or a stool, in fact, anything used for sitting on; buttress of a wall; knowledge; dominion and power. Hence, ‫ الکراسی‬means, men of learning (Aqrab & Lane).”

It is further explained: “This verse is known as ‫ آیة الکرسی‬- AyatulKursi - and is considered to be one of the most important verses, beautifully describing the Unity of God and His great attributes. The Holy Prophetsa is reported to have said that the Ayatul-Kursi is the loftiest verse in the Quran (Muslim). The verse supplies an answer to an implied question.

Even if Muslims made the sacrifices required of them in 2:255, the task before them was so great that, based on worldly calculations, there appeared no hope of success for them.

How then is the promised victory to come?

The verse under comment provides a telling answer. The world was not without a Master.

The destinies of its people were controlled by a Being Whose power was limitless, Whose knowledge knew no bounds, Who was ever vigilant, ever watchful, in Whose hands were the entire resources of the earth and the heavens. If such a Being willed the triumph of a party, who was there to thwart His way? The promised victory must come.

“For a detailed treatment of the subject of intercession see note on 2:49. The reason why no one shall be allowed to intercede for any person except with the permission of God is that nobody knows what is in the minds of men and consequently none is in a position to intercede for another. God alone knows the secrets of men’s hearts and hence there can be no intercession except by His permission, for He alone knows who is deserving of it.

“The clause, they encompass nothing of His knowledge, means that God’s knowledge is unlimited; while the knowledge of others, whoever they may be, is limited; even Prophets know no more than what is apparent of the spiritual condition of their followers.

“The word ‫ – کرسی‬knowledge - may signify either knowledge or power; both give equally good meanings and are almost equally applicable. Allah’s knowledge is as extensive as His power. Knowledge and power are indeed the two great pillars on which the throne of God and, for that matter, the controlling power of everyone in authority rests.” (Five Volume English Commentary of the Holy Quran, Vol. 1, pp.

401-402)

Ahadith about the excellence of Ayat-ul-Kursi The Holy Prophet Muhammadsa spoke of the lofty status of Ayat-ul-Kursi as a verse in the Holy Quran. We find several ahadith that give us an insight into the excellence of Ayat-ul-Kursi and the key to success that it contains.

It was narrated by Abu Hurairahra that the Messenger of Allahsa said: “For everything, there is a pinnacle, and the pinnacle of the Quran is Surah Al-Baqarah.

Within it, there is a verse that is the master of all verses in the Quran; this is Ayat-ulKursi.” (Sunan at-Tirmidhi, Kitab thawabi l-qur’ani ‘an rasulillahsa, Hadith 2878) In another place, it has been narrated that the Holy Prophetsa said: “If anyone recites the Throne Verse after each prayer, only death will stand between them and Paradise. Additionally, if they recite it before going to bed, God will provide protection for their home, their neighbour’s home, and the nearby dwellings.” (Mishkat al-Masabih, Kitab as-salat, Hadith 974)

Concept of Tauheed – Unity of God in Ayat-ul-Kursi In a lecture at Jalsa Seeratun-Nabisa in Qadian on 2 June 1929, Hazrat Mirza Bashir-ud-Din Mahmud Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih IIra, explained the ways in which Ayat-ul-Kursi is the verse of the Holy Quran that completely embodies the concept of the Unity of God. Huzoorra said: “In the Holy Quran, Allah explains Tauheed in this manner:

ُ َۡ َ َ ٌَ َ ۡ ۡ َ َ� ۤ �ٰ َ ‫َل َ ٗ​ٗہ َ​َما ِفِی‬ �‫َنۡوۡ ٌ​ٌم‬ ‫َّوَلَا‬ � ‫ِسَنٌۃ‬ ِ ‫َتۡاُخُذ ُٗٗہ‬ ‫َلَا‬ �ُ‫اۡلَق �ُّیُۡوُۡم‬ ُ‫َاۡل َ​َح �ُّی‬ �َ‫ُھَُو‬ ‫ِاَّلا‬ ِ ‫ِاٰلٰ َ​َہ‬ ِ ‫َلَۤا‬ ُ‫َالّٰلُہ‬ ۡ َ� ۤ �‫َ ۡ َ �َ ۡ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ ۤٗہ‬ ۡ َ ۡ َ َ ٰ ٰ َ� �‫ِب ِ​ِاۡذِنِ ٖ​ٖہ‬ ‫ا‬ ِ ‫ِاَّل‬ ِ ‫ِعۡنَد‬ ُِ ‫َیۡشَفُع‬ ‫َذا اَّل ِ​ِذۡی‬ ‫َمۡن‬ �‫ِض‬ ِ ‫الَّسٰمٰو ِ​ِت َوَما ِفِی اۡلَاۡر‬ ۡ َ َ َ َ ۡ ۡ َۡ َ َۡ َ َ َۡ َ َ ‫َخ ۡ​ۡل َ​َفُہ ُۡۡم‬ ‫ا‬ ‫ِعۡل ِ​ِم‬ ِ ‫ِّم ۡ​ۡن‬ ِ� ‫ُیُِح ۡ​ۡیُطُۡوۡ َ​َن ِ​ِبَش ۡ​ۡی ٍ​ٍء‬ ‫ا‬ ‫َاۡی ِ​ِدۡی ِ​ِہۡم َوَم‬ ‫َبۡیَن‬ ‫َما‬ ُ‫َیۡعَلُم‬ ِ ‫َوَل‬ � ۡ َ َ َ ۡ ٗ َ ُ‫ِحۡفُظُ​ُہ‬ ِ ‫َیَُٔـ�ُۡوُۡدُٗہ‬ ‫َوَلا‬ � َ ‫ِب َ​َما َ​َش‬ ‫ِاَّل�َا‬ ِ ۤ �‫ٖۤہ‬ � ‫ُکُۡر ِ​ِس �ُّی‬ ۡ ‫َو ِ​ِس َ​َع‬ � َ ‫الَّس ٰ​ٰم ٰ​ٰو ِ​ِت َ​َواۡلَا ۡ​ۡرَض‬ ُ‫ُ​ُہ‬ َ ‫ٓاَء‬ ِ ُ‫اۡل ۡ َ​َع ِ​ِظ ۡ​ۡیُم‬ ُ‫َوُہَُوَ اۡل ۡ َ​َع ِ​ِل �ُّی‬ �‫ا‬ َ ‫َ​َم‬

َ� ۤ �ٰ َ “َ‫ُھَُو‬ ‫ِاَّلا‬ ِ ‫ِاٰلٰ َ​َہ‬ ِ ‫َلَۤا‬ ُ‫ َالّٰلُہ‬That is, there is no God but َ ۡ َۡ Allah. ُ‫ َاۡل َ​َح �ُّیُ اۡلَق �ُّیُۡوُۡم‬- He is the Ever-Living and All-Sustaining. ُ َۡ َ َ ٌَ “‫َنۡوۡ ٌ​ٌم‬ ‫َّوَلَا‬ � ‫ِسَنٌۃ‬ ِ ‫َتۡاُخُذ ُٗٗہ‬ ‫ َلَا‬There are no breaks in His works. Anyone who believes His works can be interrupted is also guilty of shirk [associating partners with Allah Almighty], for it implies that the world could function on its own without God. Slumber seizes Him not, nor sleep. ۡ َ ۡ َ َ ٰ ٰ َ� َ َٗ “‫ِض‬ ِ ‫ َلٗہ َما ِفِی الَّسٰمٰو ِ​ِت َوَما ِفِی اۡلَاۡر‬Everything is under His absolute control. We must believe that God is the Master of every object in the universe and that no one else has any control. ۤ ۡ َ� �‫َ ۡ َ �َ ۡ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ ۤٗہ‬ “ ‫ِب ِ​ِاۡذِنِ ٖ​ٖہ‬ ‫ا‬ ِ ‫ِاَّل‬ ِ ‫ِعۡنَد‬ ُِ ‫َیۡشَفُع‬ ‫َذا اَّل ِ​ِذۡی‬ ‫ َمۡن‬Humans should accept that God created a system for the acceptance of our prayers, but He cannot be compelled to accept them. Only if He grants permission to pray concerning a matter can a person supplicate. َ َ ََۡ َ ۡ “‫َخۡلَفُہ ُۡۡم‬ ‫َاۡیۡ ِ​ِدۡیۡ ِ​ِہ ۡ​ۡم َ​َو َ​َما‬ ‫َبَۡی َ​َن‬ ‫َما‬ َُ ‫ َی ۡ​ۡعَلُم‬He knows what has happened in the past and what will occur in the future. Being All-Knowing is a prerequisite for Tauheed. The perfect omnipotence cannot exist without perfect knowledge. Thus, believing God is omniscient is essential. َ َ ‫ِب َ​َما َ​َش‬ ‫ِاَّل�َا‬ ِ ۤ �‫ِع ۡ​ۡلِمٖۤہ‬ ِ ‫ِّم ۡ​ۡن‬ ِ� ‫ُیُِح ۡ​ۡیُطُۡوۡ َ​َن ِب َ​َش ۡ​ۡی ٍ​ٍء‬ ‫ا‬ “ ‫ٓاَء‬ A person ِ ‫َ​َوَل‬ ِ ِ ِ

cannot achieve anything without the knowledge granted by God. Hence, one must understand that everything they attain will be through God. َ َ َ� ّ ّ� ۡ ّ َ َ “‫ْلَّس ْٰم َٰو ٌِت َ​َوالَۡا َۡرِض‬ ‫َو ِۡسُع ُکَر ِۡسۡيُه ا‬ His throne encompasses the earth and the heavens. A throne is the seat of decision-making which means every atom and particle moves under the power and direction of God. Without understanding this fine point, belief in His Oneness remains incomplete. ّۡ “ ‫ َ​َولَ​َا ئَُـ�َّوۡ ِّد ُٗه ِْحَفِظ ُّہ َْما‬His protection never ceases, continuing forever. ۡ “ ّ‫ َ​َو ُّهَوَ اْل َۡع ِ​ِل �ی‬Though every particle is manifesting His power, He is so Exalted that no one can fathom His true essence through their own effort. ۡ “ ‫ اْل َۡعِظ ِۡۡي ُّم‬- Despite being unfathomable, He is still Supreme [in the sense] that through the manifestation of His powers, anyone who strives can find Him. One can reach Him with ease and enjoy His presence.

“Therefore, the above verse [Ayat-ul-Kursi] signifies that perfect Tauheed is to be in harmony and union with God Almighty. One who finds God finds absolute Tauheed. In this sense, union with God is synonymous with Tauheed. This is the concept of Divine Unity presented by the Holy Prophetsa. It involves achieving a union with God while still living in this world. Essentially, it means that a person’s entire existence is centred on God, to the point where their own being feels nullified.” (Unity of God and the Teachings of Muhammadsa [Tawhid-e-Bari Ta‘ala Ke Baray Mein Aan Hazratsa Ki Ta‘lim], pp.

22-24)

The Belief in the Unity of God Dispels Fears of All but God In his book, An Elementary Study of Islam, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh has written: “So, belief in the oneness of God is not the end-all of belief, but all other beliefs spring from this fountain-head of eternal truth.

This also delivers a message of liberation from all other yokes and releases man from all obligations except such as is born out of his submission to God. This article has been further elucidated from different angles, both in the Holy Quran and the traditions of the Holy Prophetsa of Islam. For instance, the declaration ‘La houl wala quat illa Billah’ (There is no all-encompassing power except Allah) opens up new windows for a deeper and wider understanding of Unity. It negates all fears other than the fear of God. The second part of the same brings to the focus of attention another very important aspect of Unity, i.e., that the power to achieve good is solely dependent on God and that He is Master of all sources of strength and energy. Hence, while the first part relates to the negative aspects of power, the second part relates to the positive.” (An Elementary Study of Islam, p. 7) Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh then explains that a godless man has more than one master. It could be the society, the authorities, his own desires, or his ego that enslaves him and to be freed from such dependence and slavery, belief in the Unity of God is required. It saves one from all other forms of fears or masters. Huzoorrh then writes: “From this point of view, when you cast another glance at the fundamental

declaration, that ‘there is no God but Allah, the One and Only’, all these fears and hopes relating to objects other than God are dispelled, as if by the waving of a magic wand. In other words, by choosing one master alone you are liberated from slavery to all others. To be a slave of such others as are themselves slaves to numberless gods is a poor bargain indeed! But that is not all. The gods that such people worship are, many a time, products of their own imagination, which can do them neither good nor harm.

Most men, on the other hand, worship nothing but mortals like themselves, their own egos being supreme among them all.

Hence each of them bows to numberless egotistic gods, their interests being at clash with each other, creating a situation which is the ultimate of chaos.

“The Islamic concept of Unity also inculcates in man the realisation of the oneness of the human species and does away with all such barriers as divide man into racial, ethnic and colour denominations.

This gives birth to the universal concept of equality in Islam, which is its distinctive feature. Hence from the vantage point of God, all human beings, wherever and in whichever age they were born, stand equal in His sight. As will be demonstrated shortly, it is this fundamental which gives rise to all other fundamental beliefs and doctrines in Islam.” (Ibid., pp. 8-9)

Conclusion Narrating the excellence of Ayat-ul-Kursi, during his Friday Sermon on 5 June 2009, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa stated that this verse of the Holy Quran explains that: ّ َ َ َ� ّ ّ� ۡ َ َ “He further states, ‫ْلَّس ْٰم َٰو ٌِت َ​َوالَۡا َۡرِض‬ ‫َو ِۡسُع ُکَر ِۡسۡيُه ا‬ [‘His knowledge extends over the heavens and the earth,’] for His sovereignty is spread across the earth and the heavens. He is the Giver and Sustainer of life to all that exists in the universe and beyond, encompassing every creation. Your knowledge is limited.

He is the One who grants knowledge to you.

As far as your capabilities and efforts have progressed, so far He imparts knowledge.

Yet, this knowledge is only to the extent that Allah Almighty wills. Therefore, He alone deserves that you bow before Him and abandon all false deities. His dominion extends over the earth and the heavens, indeed He has taken upon Himself to protect it, and He is never wearied. His gaze encompasses everything, and this vast and comprehensive system is beyond human grasp. Thus, Allah Almighty has declared that you should look again and again to see if you can find any flaw in His creation, but you will fail. Your gaze will return to you, worn out and defeated. But it is Allah Almighty who has been running this system since time immemorial, without a hint of slumber or fatigue. Do these facts not prompt you to bow your heads before this All-Encompassing God and not persist in defiance? ۡ ۡ “And in conclusion, it is stated, ‫َ​َو ُّهَوَ اْل َۡع ِ​ِل �یّ اْل َۡعِظ ِۡۡي ُّم‬ [‘And He is the High, the Great,’] signifying that His exalted status and majesty require no assistance to manage this entire system.”

Become one with God

“

If you become one with God, rest

assured that God too will be yours. God Almighty shall remain awake for you as you sleep. God shall watch over your

enemy and frustrate their designs, while you are unmindful of him. You still do not know the extent of God’s powers.

Had you known, not a single day would you have grieved over the world. Does he who owns a treasure weep, cry and become sorrowful unto death over the loss of a single coin? Had you been aware of this treasure and knew that at every time of need God is able to fulfil your requirements, why would you look to the world so restlessly? God is a precious treasure; appreciate Him accordingly, for He is your Helper at every step.

Blessings of obedience to Khilafat Maulvi Abdur-Razzaq Atoki. O. Lecturer, Jamia Ahmadiyya Nigeria

Allah the Almighty states in the Holy Quran:

َ� َ ۡ �ٰ ‫َ​َو َ​َع َ​َد ال ٰ�ّٰلُہُ اَّل�َ ِ​ِذۡیۡ َ​َن ٰ​ٰا َ​َمُنُۡوۡا ِ​ِم ۡ​ۡنُک ُۡۡم َ​َو َ​َعِمُلُوا‬ ‫الّٰص ِ​ِل ٰ​ٰح ِ​ِت َل َ َ​َی ۡ​ۡس َ​َتۡخ ِ​ِلَفَّنُہ ُۡۡم‬ ِ ۡ ‫ِفی اۡلَۡاَ ۡ​ۡرِض َ​َک َ​َما‬ ۡ‫ُیَُم �ّ​ِّکَن َ �َ​َّن َلَُہُۡم‬ َ َ ‫اۡس َ​َت ۡ​ۡخ َ​َل َ​َف اَّل�َ ِ​ِذۡیۡ َ​َن ِ​ِم ۡ​ۡن َ​َق ۡ​ۡب ِ​ِلِہ ۡ​ۡم َ​َوَل‬ ِ َِ � َ ِ َ � َ َ​َ ۡ َ َٰۡ َ ً َ ‫ُیَُب �ِ​ِّدَلَ​َّنُہ ُۡۡم �ِ​ِّم ۢ​ۢۡن َبَ ۡ​ۡع ِ​ِد َخۡوِۡفِ ِ​ِہ ۡ​ۡم َا ۡ​ۡمًنا‬ ‫ِ​ِدۡیَۡن ُ​ُہ ُ​ُم اَّل ِ​ِذی اۡرَتٰضی َلُہُۡم َوَل‬ ۡ َ َ ٰ َ ً َ َ َ​َ َ ‫َی ۡ​ۡعُبُ ُد ُۡۡوَنِنِ ۡ​ۡی َلَا ُیُۡش ِ​ِرُکُۡوۡ َ​َن ِب ِ ۡ​ۡی َش ۡ​ۡیًئا َ​َو َ​َم ۡ​ۡن َکَف َ​َر َبَ ۡ​ۡع َ​َد ٰذِل َِک َفُاُوٰٓلٓ ِ​ِئَک ُہُ ُ​ُم‬ ٰ ۡ ‫اۡلٰف ِ​ِسُقُۡوۡ َ​َن‬ “Allah has promised to those among you who believe and do good works that He will surely make them Successors in the earth, as He made Successors [from among] those who were before them; and that He will surely establish for them their religion which He has chosen for them; and that He will surely give them in exchange security [and peace] after their fear: They will worship Me, and they will not associate anything with Me. Then whoso is ungrateful after that, they will be the rebellious.” (Surah an-Nur, Ch.24: V.56) This verse of the Holy Quran contains a promise of Allah the Almighty that He will raise Khulafa among righteous Muslims and He will, thereby, establish their religion which He had chosen for them. Hence, it has been the tradition of Allah that after the demise of a Prophet, a series of successors follow to carry on the Prophet’s mission.

Immediately after the demise of the noblest of mankind and chief of Prophets, Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, came a state of grief and panic.

It was a great crisis and had the potential to lead to far greater crisis and disaster which could have spelt the end of the young and growing religion as rebellions broke out in many parts of Arabia. At that crucial time, Allah established Hazrat Abu Bakrra as the first Khalifa of the Ummah; and, through his leadership qualities, calmness and unmatched devotion to his beloved master, Muslims were again united. Islam was firmly established and their fears changed into peace, security and progress.

Hazrat Abu Bakrra was followed by Hazrat Umarra, Hazrat Uthmanra and Hazrat Alira, respectively. They were all guided and beloved servants of Allah. This glorious

period of early Islam, which is known as al-Khilafah ar-Rashidah, came to an end – as prophesied by the Holy Prophetsa. And after them, successorship took a different shape as kingship and monarchy followed.

However, fortunately, still for Muslims, all these were no coincidence for it has been foretold by the Holy Prophetsa with the glad tidings that Khilafat on the model and footstep of Prophethood will be returned to Earth in the Latter Days. The Holy Prophetsa said: “Prophethood shall remain among you as long as Allah wills. He will bring about its end and follow it with Khilafat on the precepts of prophethood for as long as He wills and then bring about its end. Kingship shall then follow, to remain as long as Allah wills and then come to an end. There shall then be monarchical despotism which shall remain as long as Allah wills and come to an end upon His decree. There will then emerge Khilafat on the precepts of prophethood.”

Prophet Muhammadsa then became silent.

(Musnad Ahmad bin Hanbal, Kitab as-riqaq, Bab al-indhari wa t-tahdhir) This prophecy about the re-establishment of Khilafat on the precepts of Prophethood in the Latter Days has been fulfilled by the advent of the Promised Messiah and Mahdi, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, peace be upon him, who claimed to be a subordinate prophet, being the most ardent devotee of Hazrat Khatam an-Nabiyyin, the Holy Prophet Muhammadsa and also claimed to be the second coming of Jesusas.

According to divine scheme and promise, he was destined to be followed by Khilafat.

Subsequently, a few years before his demise, he wrote a book, The Will, in which he wrote that Allah had informed him that his demise was close. He then gave the tidings of the Khilafat that would follow after him: “Thus He manifests two kinds of Power.

(1) First He shows the Hand of His Power at the hands of His Prophetsas themselves.

(2) Second, when with the Death of a Prophetas, difficulties and problems arise And the enemy feels stronger and thinks that things are in disarray and is convinced that now this Jamaat will become extinct and even members of the Jamaat, too, are in a quandary and their backs are broken, and

some of the unfortunate ones choose paths that lead to apostasy, then it is, that God for the second time shows His Mighty Power and supports and takes care of the shaken Jamaat. Thus one who remains steadfast till the end witnesses this miracle of God. This is what happened at the time of Hadrat Abu Bakr Siddiqra, when the demise of the Holy Prophetsa was considered untimely and many an ignorant Bedouin turned apostate.

The Companions of the Holy Prophetsa, too, stricken with grief, became like those who lose their senses. Then Allah raised Abu Bakr Siddiqra and showed for the second time the manifestation of His Power and saved Islam, just when it was about to fall, and fulfilled the promise which was spelled out in the verse:

َ� َ َ َ ۡ َ ٰ َ ۡ َ� َ َ َ �َ َ​َ ‫ُیَُب �ِ​ِّدَلَ​َّنُہ ُۡۡم �ِ​ِّم ۢ​ۢۡن َبَ ۡ​ۡع ِ​ِد‬ ‫ُیَُم ّ​ِّکَن �َّن َلَُہ ُۡۡم ِ​ِدۡیَۡن ُ​ُہ ُ​ُم اَّل ِ​ِذی اۡرَتٰضی َلُہُۡم َوَل‬ ‫َوَل‬ ًَۡۡ َۡ ‫َخۡوِفِ ِ​ِہۡم َاۡمًنا‬

“That is, after the fear We shall firmly reestablish them. [Surah an-Nur: Ch.24: V.55] “That is also what happened at the time of Mosesas, when he died on his way from Egypt to Kin‘an before taking the Israelites to the intended destination in accordance with the promise. At his [Moses’s] death Israelites were plunged into deep mourning.

It is written in Torah that with the grief at this untimely death and sudden departure of Mosesas, the Israelites wept for forty days.

The same happened with Christas. At the time of the incident of Crucifixion all his disciples scattered and even one of them apostatized.

“So dear friends! Since it is the Sunnatullah, from time immemorial, that God Almighty shows two manifestations so that the two false joys of the opponents be put to an end, it is not possible now that God should relinquish His Sunnah of old.

So do not grieve over what I have said to you; nor should your hearts be distressed.

For it is essential for you to witness the second manifestation, and its coming is better for you because it is everlasting, the continuity of which will not end till the Day of Judgement. And that second manifestation cannot come unless I depart.

But when I depart, God will send that second manifestation for you, which shall always

stay with you, just as promised by God in Brahin-e-Ahmadiyya. And this promise is not for My person. Rather, the promise is with reference to you, as God [addressing me] says: I shall make this Jama‘at who are your followers, prevail over others till the Day of Judgement. Thus, it is inevitable that you see the day of my departure, so that after that day, the day comes which is the day of ever-lasting promise.” (The Will, pp. 5-7) This second manifestation, alluded to above, is the Khilafat we are fortunate to continue to benefit from today.

Khilafat and obedience It would be an understatement to say that obedience is important in the institution of Khilafat, for obedience is the very foundation on which Khilafat is built. There can be no Khilafat without obedience, and obedience in its purest form can also not be experienced without Prophethood or Khilafat. Thus, obedience plays a vital role in the administrative, moral and spiritual growth of the Jamaat.

While expounding on this topic, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmadaa, Khalifatul Masih Vaa said, while expounding on verses 5258 of Surah an-Nur, which also include the verse relating to Khilafat [Ayat al-Istikhlaaf], in which God Almighty promised the believers to establish the institution of Khilafat: “In the preceding verses and also in the verses that follow after this, they draw one’s attention towards showing obedience to God Almighty and His Messenger. If these conditions are fulfilled, then God Almighty will fulfil His promise of establishing Khilafat, grant security and peace after our state of fear and He will punish the enemy.”

(Al Hakam, 21 June 2019, Issue 66, p. 13-16) Huzooraa went on to say: “No matter how often one claims to be a believer, until and unless one follows the commandments of God Almighty and His Messengersa with complete conviction and full certainty and becomes steadfast in the face of every test and trial, one cannot be granted success. Thus, in order to attain true success and triumph, it is incumbent to show complete obedience to God Almighty

AL HAKAM | Friday 21 June 2024 and His Messengersa. In order to attain the pleasure of God Almighty, it is incumbent to follow His commandments with the fear that lest one may incur the displeasure of God due to some action of his. Likewise, it is incumbent to uphold righteousness.

Every good deed and excellent moral needs to be adopted as this is a commandment of God Almighty. When one fulfils these conditions, only then can one attain success and be granted the protection of God Almighty. (Ibid.)

Huzooraa further stated: “The Holy Prophetsa has stated, ‘One who obeys the Amir appointed by me, in fact obeys me and one who obeys me, in fact obeys God Almighty. One who disobeys the Amir appointed by me, in fact disobeys me and my disobedience equates to disobeying God Almighty.’ (Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab alahkam, Hadith 7137) “The obedience of the Khalifa of the time however is even more important than the obedience one shows to an ordinary amir.”

Exemplary obedience in the life of Khulafa of the Holy Prophetsa “We find accounts of complete and absolute obedience in the lives of the companions of the Holy Prophetsa. I will present one such example.

“During one of the battles, Hazrat Khalid bin Waleedra was appointed as the leader of the army. However, owing to some reason, Hazrat Umarra replaced him while the battle was at its peak. In any case, the instruction of the Khalifa of the time that came at that occasion was that Hazrat Abu ‘Ubaidahra should take charge. However, Hazrat Abu ‘Ubaidahra initially did not take the charge from Hazrat Khalid bin Waleedra thinking that he was already commanding in an excellent manner. However, Hazrat Khalid bin Waleedra said, “You must immediately take the charge from me because that is the instruction of the Khalifa of the time. I will serve under you with full obedience as you require of me without complaining or any thought of an ill will.” (Tarikh Tabari, Vol. 2, pp. 356-357) “Thus, this is the standard of obedience required of a believer and it should not be the case that if a decision is made against an individual’s wishes, they begin to object to it.

Or, if an office bearer is replaced by another individual, they stop doing their work.

Whoever acts in this manner, does not show any obedience and fails to instil the fear of God Almighty and righteousness.” (Al Hakam, 21 June 2019, Issue 66, p. 13-16)

Removal of a misconception about obedience to the Khalifa in ma‘ruf (right) matters Removing a misconception about obedience to the Khalifa in ma‘ruf (right) matters, Huzooraa further said: “Regarding those people who get entangled in the discussion about whether something is ma‘ruf or not, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Ira stated: “There is another mistake people make and that is in understanding the words ‘to show obedience in ma‘ruf matters.’ Such people do not obey certain instructions that they consider not to be ma‘ruf.’ In other words, they decide for themselves as to what is ma‘ruf and what is not. states, ‘The word ma‘ruf has also been used for the Holy Prophetsa as well:

ۡ ‫َ​َوَلَا َیَ ۡ​ۡع ِ​ِص ۡ​ۡی َ​َن َ​َک ِف ۡ​ۡی َ​َم ۡ​ۡع‬ ‫ُرُۡو ٍ​ٍف‬ ِ

‘‘...nor disobey thee in what is right…’’

(Surah al-Mumtahanah, Ch.60: V.13).

“Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Ira states: ‘Have such people prepared a list consisting of the Holy Prophet’ssa faults?’

“Did they make some kind of list for his short-comings and weaknesses, God forbid, whereby one could ascertain as to which of his decisions were ma‘ruf and which were not? Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Ira states, ‘Likewise, Hazrat Sahib’, i.e., the Promised Messiahas ‘has also included the obedience of all ma‘ruf decisions in the conditions of bai‘at. There is a deep underlying wisdom in doing so.’ (Haqaiq-ul-Furqan, Vol.4, pp.

75-76) “This is because the Prophets and the Khulafa instruct only according to the commandments given to them by God Almighty. On one occasion, whilst explaining the word ma‘ruf , the Promised Messiahas stated that a Prophet commands that which is in line with reason and he forbids all that which goes against logic. He deems pure things lawful and all impurities unlawful. God Almighty has clearly stated all of these in the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophetsa has also explained all the commands and prohibitions, i.e. the acts we should carry out and those we should abstain from. Thus, those who follow Allah and His Messengersa and act upon all these commandments will attain salvation.

Therefore, we must always remember that the instructions given by Khilafat are, and will continue to be so, in accordance to the sharia and sunnah.” (Al Hakam, 21 June 2019, Issue 66, p. 13-16) Hence, we must desist from getting ourselves entangled in the argument regarding what is ma’ruf and what is not.

Blessings of obedience to Khilafat There are countless blessings in obedience to Khilafat but the scope of this article would only permit us to mention a few.

However, it should be borne in mind that only obedience to the Khalifa of the time can guarantee a strong bond to Khilafat.

Attaining God’s pleasure The first blessing associated with obedience to Khilafat is that it makes an Individual the recipient of divine bounties and love, as the Almighty becomes pleased with such a one. This is so because the true purpose of creation is to worship God and therefore the true purpose of religion is to establish a link between man and God thereby making his purpose of creation easy to achieve, and this can’t be achieved without obedience to Him. Allah the Exalted says :

َ� ۡ ۡ َۡ​َ ‫َ​َو َ​َما َخَلۡق ُ​ُت اۡل ِ​ِج �َ​َّن َ​َواۡلِۡاِۡن َ​َس ِ​ِاَّلا ِل ََِی ۡ​ۡعُبُ ُد ُۡۡو ِ​ِن‬

“And I have not created the Jinn and the men but that they may worship Me.” (Surah adh-Dhariyat, Ch.51: V.56) This is the purpose for which Messengers are sent at different times and to different people, the Prophetsa was also sent with the same uniform message given to all Messengers which is to preach the unity of God and bring man closer to him, therefore obedience to him has been made incumbent upon every believer by the Holy Quran as

is obedience to and support for any Prophet who comes after him, testifying to that which he has brought, been a dependent Prophet. Invariably obedience to Allah and any of these Messengers is also not possible without Khilafat.

Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IIra said: “Similarly obedience ٰ to the Messenger � ‫‘ َاَ ِ​ِط ۡ​ۡیُعُوا ال �ّٰل َ​َہ َ​َوَاَ ِ​ِط ۡ​ۡیُعُوا‬Obey Allah mentioned in ‫الَّرَُسُۡوۡ َ​َل‬ and obey his Messenger’ [Surah an-Nisa’, Ch.4: V.60] is not possible without the Khalifa, because the real purpose behind obedience to the Messenger is to string all the thread of unity. In a way, the Companions performed prayer and Muslims of today also do the same these days, the Companions fasted as do the Muslims now, the Companions also performed Hajj and the Muslims do the same now. Then what is the difference between the Companions of the Holy Prophetsa and Muslims of these days?

The difference is that at that time they performed prayer when the Holy Prophetsa informed them that it was time for prayer as was the case with fasting and Hajj, all their acts were dominated by the spirit of obedience to the Holy Prophetsa the benefit of this obedience was that when the Holy Prophetsa gave any command, the Companions promptly followed it. But this spirit of obedience is not present in the Muslims of these days. The Muslims perform prayer, observe the fast and perform the Hajj but there is no sense of submission in them because the sense of submission cannot be created without the system of Khilafat. So when there is Khilafat there is obedience to the Messenger.

“Obedience to the Messenger does not just mean the performance of Prayer, fast and Hajj, for these are all commandments of God. The submission to the Messenger is that when he says that now is the time to put more emphasis on prayer, then all the people start asserting more emphasis on prayer, when he says that now the need of Zakat is growing, so be ready to offer contributions, then the people start focusing on contributing more towards Zakat.”

Progress and success The history of Islam bears witness to the fact that the Muslim Ummah witnessed unmatched success and progress during the eras of the four guided Khulafa which changed into rapid decline and change of fortune afterwards, hence, the aforementioned success was only achievable because of the obedience of Muslims then to the Messenger and subsequently his Khulafa, this very well explains why the Muslim groups or nations of today are suffering from both worldly and spiritual decline and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community (under the guidance of Khilafat) is by Allah’s grace flourishing day by day.

Coordination and unity Another blessing that automatically comes with obedience to Khilafat is coordination and unity, by obeying the Imam of the age Muslims are bound to experience unparalleled coordination and unity, according to the Quran, even daily Salat and Friday prayers can only be performed in its true sense by following Khilafat, a perfect example of this is seen today as thousands of Ahmadis around the globe listen to the

sermon of the Khalifa and so the result is that Ahmadis are unified under the Rope of Allah and share the same idea and benefits, this also fosters the love and affection between the Jamaat and the Imam.

Hazrat Mirza Nasir Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih IIIrh states: “It is wrong to think that the Khalifa of the time and the Jamaat Ahmadiyya are two different things, Allah the Exalted has favoured the Jamaat with tremendous grace.

Jamaat Ahmadiyya and the Imam Jamaat Ahmadiyya are two names of one and the same thing. It is with the combination of both that one thing is formulated which is a symbol of coordination.

“The project of taking the great revolution to its climax essentially requires coordination to achieve success. There should be no internal dissension in the Jamaat. The following injunction must always be kept in view and dissension must be avoided from all directions:

�ٰ َ​َ َ ۡ ‫َ​َو‬ ‫اۡع َ​َت ِ​ِصُمُۡوۡا ِ​ِب َ​َح ۡ​ۡب ِ​ِل الّٰل ِ​ِہ َ​َج ِ​ِم ۡ​ۡی ً​ًعا �َّوَلَا َتَف �َ​َّرُقُۡوۡا‬

“‘And hold fast, all together, by the rope of Allah and be not divided.’” [Surah Aal-e-‘Imran, Ch.3: V.103] (Khilafat and Mujaddidiyyat. p. 12) All in all, there are thousands of blessings in obedience to Khilafat and as a matter of fact all blessings associated with Khilafat can be said to be associated with obedience to Khilafat.

I will now proceed to give some accounts as examples of the obedience to Khilafat of some members of the Jamaat which should serve as model for us all.

Noteworthy examples of obedience to Khilafat There are certain individuals who are shining lights in their obedience to the Khalifa or Khilafat and whose lives are testimonies to the blessings that is in obedience to Khilafat, I will like to narrate few incidents from their lives;

The blessed household The first example I will like to give is that of the household of the Promised Messiahas Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Irh while delivering a lecture on Khilafat to a certain group of people in the year 1912 at Ahmadiyya Building Lahore said: “I say in all honesty that none among you exhibits the same level of obedience as my dear Mahmood, Bashir, Shareef, Nawab Nasir, and Nawab Muhammad Ali Khan. I say this not out of partiality but as a statement of fact. Their love is for the sake of pleasing God. I have heard from Biwi Sahib [i.e., Hazrat Umm-ul-Momineenra] countless times that she considers herself my servant.” (Badr, No. 1, Vol. 12, Qadian, 4 July 1912, p. 7) This is the model set down for us by the family of the Promised Messiahas. If his blessed wife considers herself to be the servant of the Khalifa then who are we?

Promised Messiahas once noted: “Maulawi Hakim Nurud Din Sahib is unique in his sincerity, love and spirit of sacrifice, in his courage and generosity, in spending for the sake of Allah and his support for Islam. I know many a rich person, who spends a tiny portion of his abundant wealth in the way of Allah, but to give all of one’s precious wealth to win the pleasure of Allah and suffer hunger and thirst and completely deprive oneself of all its material benefits, is a virtue that I have witnessed to perfection in Maulawi Sahib alone. Those of his companions, whose hearts are deeply affected by him, are also endowed with this virtue. [...] May God increase the number of men of such calibre and fortitude in this Umma, Amin.” (The Heavenly Sign [Nishan-e-Asmani], 2005, pp.

76-77)

Hazrat Mirza Bashir-ud-Din Mahmud Ahmadra Hazrat Hakeem Allah Bakhshra narrates that once Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra came to Bit, a village near Qadian, for hunting. Many people then requested him to stay overnight.

He replied, “I only took permission for a day from the Khalifatul Masihra, so I cannot stay overnight. However, when I come next time, I will seek permission to stay longer.” He kept this promise on his subsequent visit.

(Daily Al Fazl, Rabwah, 5 November 2007, p. 4) This exemplifies his high standard of obedience to the Khalifa. He could have stayed overnight, reasoning that the Khalifa would understand due to the people’s request, but he adhered strictly to the duration of his permission.

Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmadrh Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh once narrated that during the tumultuous times in Bangladesh (then East Pakistan), he was in Karachi. Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IIIrh assigned him a task and instructed him to leave immediately. At the airport, he discovered that all seats were booked, and some even said there was no possibility for him to board the plane. Nevertheless, he resolved to go, saying to himself, “Regardless of whether anyone else goes or not, I am definitely going as this is the instruction of the Khalifa.” His unwavering commitment to obedience drove him to proceed despite the obstacles.

He entered the airport and waited patiently. After a short while, it was announced that the plane was about to take off and all passengers were on board. He remained confident that it was impossible for him not to go. Suddenly, a voice came from the desk, announcing that a passenger seat had become available and asking if there was anyone with a ticket. He promptly responded that he had a ticket. They then told him to hurry as the plane was waiting for a passenger. (Mahmood Ahmad Malik, “Har Naqsh-e-Pa Buland Hai Diwar Ki Tarah”, in Syedna Tahir Souvenir [Urdu section], July 2004, p. 58) This incident highlights the profound obedience and dedication he had towards the Khalifa’s directives.

Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmadaa About the obedience of ‫ہ‬ur beloved Imam, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmadaa to Khilafat, his respected wife, Hazrat Syeda Amatul Sabooh Begum Sahiba, wrote: “In every matter Huzuraa would act upon and fulfil all the instructions of the Khalifa. He would not allow for even the slightest deviation in doing so. When Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh fell ill, he had instructed that there was no need for anyone to come and visit him. However, his health deteriorated and it became a worrying situation. The members of the Community were also concerned. When Mian Saifi (Mirza Safeer Ahmad Sahib) saw that the condition of his health was increasingly deteriorating, he phoned Huzuraa informing him of the situation and said that it would be wise for him to come. Hence, Huzuraa travelled to London and went to meet Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh. Upon seeing him, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh enquired as to why he had come. Huzuraa replied, ‘Members of the Community are deeply concerned due to your ill-health, hence I have come to enquire about your health.’

Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh then said, ‘The situation is such that you should return immediately.’ Huzuraa said, ‘Very well, I shall book a return seat immediately.’ Later on, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh asked Mian Saifi Sahib, ‘He [i.e., Huzurrh] is so obedient to me that he could not come here without my permission, so how is it that he came?’

Mian Saifi Sahib replied that he had spoken to him over the phone requesting him to come, so that is why he travelled here. Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh was then reassured that the high levels of obedience of his courageous son were still as he had expected

The old Companion becomes a hafiz Another noteworthy example is that of an old Companion of the Promised Messiahas, Hazrat Abu Abdullah Khewa Bajwa Sialkotira. He once sat in the company of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Ira and requested to be granted some advice.

Huzoorra responded, “Maulvi Sahib!

I do not believe that anything ought to be done that you have not already carried out.

The only thing that is now left to do is the memorisation of the Holy Quran.”

Hence, after hearing the words of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Ira, he started memorising the Holy Quran at the age of approximately 65 and became a hafiz [i.e., someone who has memorised the entire Quran]. (Quoted in The Daily Al Fazl, 8 December 2010, p. 4, with reference to Al Fazl, Qadian, 19 April 1947) Such was the spirit of seeking to implement and act in accordance with the instructions of Khalifatul Masih. This is a lesson for all; things that seem impossible will become possible as long as we continue to obey the Khalifa of the time without questioning or looking for interpretations that suit our desires.

Hazrat Chaudry Muhammad Zafrulla Khanra Talking about obedience to the Khilafat, we cannot help but mention the example of a devoted Companion of the Promised Messiahas Hazrat Chaudry Muhammad

Zafrulla Khanra. He was a great servant of Khilafat-e-Ahmadiyya and was a very successful man in his worldly pursuits as well.

The late Mostafa Sabet Sahib states: “Once I asked Chaudhry Muhamed Zafrulla Khanra a question, I said, ‘Chaudhry Sahib, through all your life, you have been very successful and Allah has blessed you so much. Would you tell me why?” Without any hesitation to think about an answer, he said: “Because through all my life, I was obedient to Khilafat.’ (“The Khalifa is Appointed by God”, www.alislam.org) All these are examples showing sincere and heartfelt obedience to Khilafat through the Khalifa of the time, and the important lesson to be learnt is that obedience to the Khilafat does not only guarantee spiritual and moral excellence but also assures worldly excellence and a meaningful life.

I would like to draw the curtain on this discussion with these powerful words: “Khilafat is a great Divine blessing.

Without it, there can be no solidarity, cohesion and unity among Muslims and therefore they can make no real progress without it. If Muslims do not show proper appreciation of Khilafat by giving unstinted support and obedience to their Khulafa they will forfeit this great Divine blessing and in addition, will draw the displeasure of God upon themselves.” (The Holy Quran with English Translation and Commentary, Vol. 4, pp. 1869-1870) May Allah enable us all to become obedient servants of Khilafat-e-Ahmadiyya, strengthen our love and devotion to Him and His Khalifa and make us ever steadfast on all the pledges we make. Plastic pollution demands an ‘all of the above’ strategy

How much plastic are you willing to eat? The notion of consuming plastic is unappetising, yet it is increasingly becoming a reality. Plastics, including microplastics, are gradually making their way up the food chain and onto our plates. The long-term effects on human health remain unknown, but the signs are troubling.

“Corruption has appeared on land and sea because of what men’s hands have wrought,” warns the Holy Quran. (Surah arRum, Ch.30: V.42) This is all too evident in the scourge of plastic waste that is choking our planet. Global plastic consumption has quadrupled in 30 years, yet only 9% is recycled. The rest pollutes lands and oceans, with over half of branded waste traced to just 56 companies, led by Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Nestle and Danone. (“Coke, Pepsi top list in global count of plastic waste”, www.cbc.ca) Compounding these concerns, new research reveals the ubiquitous presence of microplastics and nanoplastics (MNPs) within human and animal reproductive systems. A recent study found microplastics in all sampled canine and human testes.

Troublingly, certain polymers like PVC and PET showed negative correlations with testicular weight, highlighting potential impacts on male fertility. (“Microplastic presence in dog and human testis and its potential association with sperm count and weights of testis and epididymis, Toxicological Sciences, 2024”, doi. org/10.1093/toxsci/kfae060) In an interview, physician-scientist

Dr Kjersti Aagaard emphasised the pervasiveness of MNPs, which have been detected in placentas from normal-term pregnancies. Differences in MNP levels were associated with slightly lower Apgar scores in newborns and an increased need for medical interventions during labour.

Dr Aagaard noted an NIEHS-funded study linking MNPs in coronary artery plaque to higher risks of heart attacks and death.

While much remains unknown about MNPs’ health effects, she advised practical steps like using non-plastic food containers to reduce exposure. (“Microplastics’ knowns, unknowns discussed by a physicianscientist”, factor.niehs.nih.gov) To stem this rising tide, we need a comprehensive approach that curbs plastic production itself, not just cleaning up the waste downstream. As Canada’s mixed record shows, local bans and fees can help cut single-use plastics, but are not always effective on their own.

Corporate accountability is also lacking. An international database obliging companies to quantify and report their plastic footprint could boost transparency. (“Coke, Pepsi top list in global count of plastic waste”, www. cbc.ca) Most importantly, the world urgently needs an ambitious global treaty. But as negotiations enter the final stretch, key countries are resisting core commitments, especially on cutting production – the “elephant in the room”. A “high ambition” coalition of over 60 states wants binding targets, yet big players like America, China and India are pushing for a limited, voluntary deal. Meanwhile, oil and plastic producers are lobbying hard against curbs on manufacturing, loath to dent profits

‘Voices For Peace’ event held at Argentinian National Congress Marwan Gill Missionary, Argentina

Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Argentina organised the second interfaith symposium at the National Congress of Argentina, with an aim to strengthen interfaith harmony and to reaffirm our common commitment towards peace and justice under the campaign “Voices For Peace”.

Besides the representatives of the diverse religious communities, several senators, diplomats, politicians, academics and journalists had gathered for this cause. The National Senator, Fernando Rejal from the province La Rioja, gave welcoming remarks

in representation of the Congress and as the host of the event. Afterwards, the religious representatives presented a short prayer and passage from their respective holy scriptures. Thereafter, the Director of the political affairs of Amnesty International in

amid the clean-energy shift.

Political will is badly needed to secure a meaningful treaty in the last round of talks this November. Leaders should heed the Quranic call to avoid corruption on the earth (Quran 2:12) and the Prophet Muhammad’ssa warning that “There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.” (Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 2340).

Safeguarding the planet is a moral and spiritual imperative.

Plastic pollution demands action on all fronts. Better waste management and recycling, yes, but also direct cuts to the production of problematic plastics. Cities need tailored reduction policies, companies need accountability, and above all, countries need the courage to forge a robust global pact.

Some are leading the way. The mountain town of Banff, in Alberta, has introduced ambitious rules, from requiring restaurants to use reusable plates to launching a borrowable coffee cup scheme. Others, like Vancouver, have struggled and rolled back ineffective measures.

The path ahead is steep. Major rifts remain between those seeking a strong treaty and those like America resisting ambitious action, especially on production cuts. If consensus proves elusive, a last resort may be a framework deal with optional protocols for willing states – akin to the Ozone treaty – or even a breakaway process among highambition countries.

But a piecemeal approach is far from ideal. With plastics production set to triple by 2060, this is a global crisis that ultimately needs a global solution. Failing to curb the upstream flow of plastics means waging a losing battle against the downstream flood

Afterwards, several representatives of the Christian and Jewish faiths addressed the audience, based upon their teachings in regards to interfaith dialogue.

On behalf of Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Argentina, my humble self gave the concluding speech. I thanked all the participants for their presence which demonstrated not only their commitment against islamophobia but all forms of religious hate. I emphasised that terrorism and violence cannot be attributed to any religion merely on the presumption that a person or a group claims to behave in the name of that faith. Rather, each religion must be judged, analysed and defined according to its own authentic teachings and sources. In the case of Islam, the literal meaning of our religion is peace and the ultimate purpose of its revelation is to

of waste.

Fighting plastic pollution is a responsibility that ultimately falls on the shoulders of consumers. While governments can implement policies and companies can promote sustainable practices, reducing plastic waste requires individuals to curb their own consumption habits. Plastics are derived from petroleum, a non-renewable resource, yet our reliance on single-use plastics has led to a crisis of pollution blighting our lands and oceans.

Disposable plastics may be convenient, but their proliferation comes at an immense environmental cost. We cannot simply recycle our way out of this problem; we must fundamentally rethink our relationship with plastics and embrace reusable alternatives wherever possible. The question we face is whether we are willing to change behaviours and make sacrifices to curb plastic pollution at an individual level.

Consumers and political leaders must step up for the sake of human health and the planet. As stewards of the environment, we have no excuse for inaction. The coming months will determine whether the world can unite to turn off the plastic tap – or whether this toxic tide will engulf all.

show mankind the path to live in peace by establishing a personal relationship with their Creator. I shared a few examples from the Holy Quran and the sayings of the Holy Prophet Muhammadsa that highlighted the universal principles of Islam in the defence of human sanctity.

In the end, on behalf of the Jamaat, we presented some gifts to the host Senators for having accepted the proposal of our Jamaat to organise this interfaith event at the National Congress. On the other side, the Senators presented a certificate of honour issued by the National Congress to all the religious speakers as a gesture of acknowledgement for having raised their voices in favour of peace and interfaith harmony. More than 70 guests participated in this session. Various national media outlets such as Infobae, Clarin, La Nacion, La Voz etc. published a detailed coverage of the event, and the entire session was also transmitted on the official channel of the Congress.

Veto Power A barrier to global peace and justice

The phrase of 19th-century renowned English historian Lord Acton (1834-1902) has become immortal in the history of nations. In a letter to a friend, Bishop Mandell Creighton, Lord Acton writes: “Power tends to corrupt; Absolute power corrupts absolutely” (Acton, Lord, “Letter to Bishop Mandell Creighton, April 5, 1887” In Historical Essays and Studies, edited by John Neville Figgis and Reginald Vere Laurence, London: Macmillan, 1907) Power always inclines towards excess and oppression. Absolute power leads to complete destruction. God Almighty has established an exemplary balance and justice in this vast universe. Each and every particle, including all creatures, is very well balanced with such beauty that mankind is struck with profound amazement and reverence. One cannot help but exclaim:

‫فتبارک اللہ احسن الخالقین‬ “So blessed be Allah, the Best of creators.”

(Surah al-Mu’minun, Ch.23: V.15) Through this balance, God has taught us that the beauty, progress and survival of creatures depend on cooperation based on balance, justice, and fairness among them. If this balance is well maintained, the principles of justice and mutual coexistence will be preserved.

This divine scheme of Allah’s wisdom continues to unfold in the creation and evolution of nations as well. Diverse nations with various colours, races, and linguistic backgrounds will only progress and achieve prosperity if they maintain a balance of power among themselves, considering the principles of justice and mutual coexistence.

If one party intoxicated with excess power becomes a bully, the result will be nothing but destruction and devastation.

Historical shortcomings of international bodies The failed experiment of the League of Nations, after World War I, also did not allow humanity to establish true justice and the principle of mutual coexistence.

Although the United Nations, established

after World War II, has made remarkable achievements in various fields such as education, health, and human rights, the absolute veto power given to five powerful countries in the Security Council has created an insurmountable obstacle in the path of true justice.

The result has been nothing but injustice, oppression and abolition of human rights, and this will continue to be the case in the future. The history of the United Nations shows that the veto has always been used to protect the interests of powerful aggressor countries and to shield individuals responsible for human rights violations from accountability.

A veto is a legal power to unilaterally block any action. Typically, a president or king uses a veto to prevent a bill from becoming law. Some countries’ constitutions include veto powers. In some cases, the veto power can be overridden by a majority vote.

However, this is not the case in the United Nations. Article 27(3) of the UN Charter gives the five permanent members of the Security Council (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States) the power to veto any resolution, regardless of its consequences. These world powers have used their veto power without hesitation to protect their national, political, and regional interests and to prioritise their foreign policy. As a result, there is a long list of severe human rights violations that shame human civilisation. According to the Security Council’s working report, the veto power has been used 293 times as of March 2024. (“UN Security Council Working Methods”, www.securitycouncilreport.org)

Veto power: A barrier to justice The United States, the sole global power after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, has used its veto power 85 times as of the date of writing. The United States has used its veto power most frequently (42 times) in favour of Israel, against resolutions criticising Israel’s military aggression, rejecting ceasefire appeals during wars, illegal settlements, and human rights violations, as well as against Palestine’s full membership in UNO. The United States first used its veto power in 1972 to block a resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Arab war. Since 2002, the United States has vetoed almost

all resolutions and actions against Israel.

In the past seven months alone, more than 34,000 people, including children and women, have been killed in Israel’s attacks on Gaza. The United States has numerous examples of using its veto power to protect its interests, including blocking resolutions against its interventions in the Caribbean Island Grenada, protecting its interests in the Vietnam War during the 70s and 80s, in South Africa, Namibia, and others.

In the beginning, Russia or the former Soviet Union used its veto power extensively in the United Nations to block the membership of pro-Western countries.

After the Soviet Union invaded Hungary in 1956, the Soviet Union vetoed a resolution against itself, preventing the UN from taking action to stop the bloodshed. In the 1980s, Russia also used its veto power to support its intervention in Afghanistan.

In the 2010s, Russia used its veto power multiple times to protect its ally, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad during the Syrian Civil War. Russia also vetoed a resolution against its annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Since it invaded Ukraine in 2022, Russia has continued to veto all ceasefire resolutions.

China has used its veto power 16 times so far, to protect its political and regional interests at all costs. Despite severe human rights violations by the military in Myanmar (Burma), China has vetoed all resolutions to hold the Myanmar military accountable and provide humanitarian aid.

The United Kingdom has also used its veto power 32 times to protect its interests.

In 1956 during a dispute over the Suez Canal, when Israel attacked Egypt, the UK and France vetoed a resolution stopping the invasion of Egypt. Similarly, in 1989, the UK and France vetoed a resolution condemning the US invasion of Panama.

During the colonial period, France and the UK ruled over a large part of the world.

Both used their veto power to protect their interests in these countries. South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, and Zambia were under British rule for a long time.

The UK used its veto power to maintain its interests in these countries. From 1963 to 1973, the UK repeatedly vetoed resolutions supporting the independence of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), protecting white minority interests ruling over the country. France

also used its veto power to protect its colonial interests. In 1976, France used its veto power to maintain its control over the island of Mayotte when Comoros gained independence. Although France and the UK have not used their veto power since 1989, but political and economic predilection of Europe is still towards the United States. US veto is often considered sufficient to block any resolution. The tacit support of the UK and France is usually implied.

Global powers have used their veto power to undermine each other and support their allied countries. For example, in 1971, the Soviet Union vetoed ceasefire resolution three times during the Pakistan-India war.

Similarly, during the Vietnam War, both the Soviet Union and the United States vetoed resolutions against their respective opponents. In 2014, Russia vetoed a resolution to impose sanctions on its ally, Syria, for human rights violations. In 2015, Russia also vetoed a resolution that declared the 1995 massacre of Muslims in Srebrenica as genocide. Civil war has been continuing in Yemen since 2014. A resolution condemning human rights abuses in 2018 was vetoed by Russia so as not to hurt its allied groups.

In order to deal with threats and challenges to world peace in 2005, a group of countries (S5) demanded that the permanent members of the UN Security Council, refrain from using their veto power in cases of war crimes, genocide, and largescale human rights violations. Again in 2013, some countries’ representatives urged global powers to voluntarily refrain from using their veto power in such cases and to develop a joint action plan. By January 2020, 120 countries, including two veto power countries, (the UK and France) had announced their support for this initiative.

Teachings of Islam The Holy Quran has clearly guided us on how to resolve conflicts and disputes between nations, stating that justice and peace are the two fundamental pillars on which a peaceful society is built. If one party refuses to make peace, we should not support the oppressor but rather stand collectively against the oppressors until they agree on reconciliation. Allah says in the Holy Quran:

“And if two parties of believers fight against each other, make peace between them; then if [after] that one of them transgresses against the other, fight the party that transgresses until it returns to the command of Allah. Then if it returns, make peace between them with equity, and act justly. Verily, Allah loves the just.

“Surely [all] believers are brothers. So make peace between brothers, and fear

(Surah al-Hujurat, Ch.49: V. 10-11) Similarly, Allah commands us to establish justice between people and nations, saying:

ْ ْ ّ َ َ َ� َ ْ َ ّ ْ َ َ َ َ ‫اس َأَن ۡت َْحُک ّْمَوا ِ​ِباْل َۡع ُْد َِل‬ ِ ‫َو ِ​ِإۡذا ْحُکْمَتُم ِبۡیَن اْلَن‬

“When you judge between men, you judge with justice.” (Surah an-Nisa, Ch.5: V.59) The veto power has been a controversial issue since its inception. The authority to veto has been a major obstacle in the path of international justice and accountability, allowing powerful nations to prioritise their interests over human rights and human lives. To create a more just and equal world, it is essential to abolish the veto power so that all countries have equal rights and we can collectively build a better world.

“Let it be clear, therefore, that where a Veto power exists, the scales of justice can never be balanced.”

Further, Huzooraa said: “However, it will prove impossible for true peace to emerge so long as nations, either directly or through their powerful allies, can utilise a veto power.”

Huzooraa said that “the fate of the United Nations seems set to mirror that of its failed predecessor, the League of Nations,” and if the system of international law, weak as it

made are based on equity as opposed to what better serves the interests of external powers. A path towards equitable global peace To save the world from destruction, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Khalifaul Masih Vaa has been drawing attention to this issue for a long time. In his address to the British Parliament in 2008, he said: “In order to maintain peace, it has been explained at the outset that the foremost requirement is justice. And, despite abiding by the principle of justice, if efforts to make peace are unsuccessful, then unite and fight collectively against the party that has transgressed and continue until such a time that the transgressing party is ready to make peace. Once the transgressing party is ready to make peace, the requirement of justice is: do not seek revenge, do not impose restrictions or embargoes. By all means, keep an eye on the transgressor but at the same time try and improve his situation.

In order to end the unrest prevalent in some countries of the world today—and unfortunately, some Muslim countries are prominent amongst them—it should be analysed in particular by those nations that have the power to veto, to determine whether or not justice has been properly dispensed?” (World Crisis and the Pathway to Peace, 2016, pp. 17-18) Recently, while addressing the 18th Peace Symposium of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in the UK on 9 March 2024, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa said: “The stark reality is that even those institutions founded with the primary objective of maintaining the peace and security of the world are becoming increasingly irrelevant.”

Speaking about the United Nations, he said: “For example, the UN has become a weak and almost powerless body where a few dominant nations yield all the power and easily override the views of the majority.”

Huzooraa said that “instead of deciding each issue based on its facts and merits, nations have formed alliances and vote according to their self-interest.”

“Ultimately, critical decisions are made by a few privileged nations, in whose hands rests the veto power. Instead of faithfully serving the cause of peace and justice, they wield their veto like a trump card, whenever their narrow interests are threatened.” This is done regardless of whether their decisions cause scores of innocent people to be negatively affected.

[“O Allah! Peace and blessings be upon Muhammad, and peace be on your Your servant, the Promised Messiah.”]

prayer would be offered at the Ahmadiyya Mosque [in London]. Moreover, at East Putney Station, we placed an information board in a prominent location displaying essential tabligh matter and directions [to the mosque] from the station. We also plan to publish more announcements in various newspapers to dispel a common misconception. It is often misunderstood or deliberately propagated that the Putney [Ahmadiyya Mission] is a branch of Woking.

Sir Hugh Clifford, a capable and wise Governor of Nigeria, delivered a lecture in London using a magic lantern. The topic of his speech was “Future Prospects for the Development of Nigeria and the Gold Coast.” The distinguished speaker discussed all the measures the government had undertaken so far, which had contributed to the prosperity of the country, and outlined the future prospects. While mentioning the enforcement of sharia punishments by the Muslim rulers of Northern Nigeria, he remarked, “Barbaric punishments, as prescribed in the Quran, [God forbid], have been abolished.” Right after his speech, I first pointed out the reforms and progress Nigeria had made during Sir Hugh Clifford’s tenure, noting that I was a firsthand witness to those developments. I then drew attention to the teachings of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat and stated: “It is in the interest of the [British] Empire that high-ranking officials should choose their words very wisely. This is the second occasion on which Sir Hugh Clifford has used the term ‘barbaric.’ I hope that it will not happen a third time. I categorically object to the use of these words. It is our responsibility to understand what the Quran says and what it means.” The Governor then stood up and expressed his regret, stating that he had no intention of offending anyone.

Magic lantern lectures

Station

After the luncheon and tea, I [Hazrat Abdur Rahim Nayyarra] delivered a speech at 5 pm using a magic lantern [i.e., an early type of image projector]. By showing 46 images, I conveyed to the audience my journey to West Africa, the teachings of Islam Ahmadiyyat, the life of the Promised Messiahas, the comparative analysis of [Pandit] Lekhram and [John Alexander] Dowie, the tomb of Jesus in Kashmir, and more, all within the given time constraints.

Some individuals, inclined to Baha’i faith, were also present. They were given English translations of the Promised Messiah’sas books, claims, and teachings.

Following this lecture, [Barrister] Aftab Ahmad Iqbal, son of Dr [Sir Muhammad] Iqbal, delivered an excellent speech on Ahmadiyya Jamaat’s services to Islam.

Drawing from his personal experience, he spoke about the education system in Qadian, its impact, and the fulfilment of the Promised Messiah’sas prophecies. What I found most delightful about this speech was that, on one side, the portrait of the Promised Messiahas was visible on the screen, and on the other side, BCL student Malik Mahmood Kamal Janjua of Oxon, BA Hons and Barrister-at-Law, was reading

The work of a missionary here is both difficult and easy. It is difficult because the results are not immediate, and sometimes the outcome is unknown, which can be very disheartening for a sensitive person. It is easy in the sense that wherever he goes, or wherever he sits, he has the opportunity to convey the truth. For instance, when the ticket collector checked my ticket, I handed him a tract, saying, “Just as your ticket allows people to enter, this tract guides one to the house of God’s pleasure.”

Hence, such opportunities present themselves every now and then. This week, I bid farewell to an Indian friend who was here on a trip. At the railway station, I got the chance to carry out tabligh to various travellers, including two Scottish Christians, one Brazilian Jew, and two English Jews. I had conversations with the passengers while the train stopped at the station, and after it left, I had discussions with their friends. By the sheer grace of Allah the Almighty, I was blessed with a great opportunity to spread the message of Islam.

Masroor Region of Majlis Ansarullah UK holds annual ijtema Mansoor Ahmad Nazim Umumi, Masroor Region, Majlis Ansarullah UK

Majlis Ansarullah Masroor Region held its regional ijtema on 2 June 2024 at Danetree School, Epsom.

The opening session of the ijtema started with the recitation from the Holy Quran followed by a poem and Ansar pledge. Afterwards, Ataul Mujeeb Rashed Sahib, Imam of the Fazl Mosque, delivered a speech on “Righteous Servants”, the theme of the ijtema of Majlis Ansarullah UK. The academic and sports competitions commenced after the opening session, followed by Zuhr and Asr prayers.

The closing session started with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a poem, ijtema report and prize distribution ceremony.

Hazrat Maulvi Abdur Rahim Nayyarra (1883-1948)

On Sunday, 4 May [1924], Eid-ul-Fitr prayer was held here [in London]. For the prayer, we have a smooth rectangular patch of grass amidst the trees in our orchard [beside the mosque]. Iranian carpets were spread over it. Despite being fewer in number, the dedicated members of London Jamaat gathered here [on the day of Eid] to pray before their God after observing 16-hour day fasts for [an entire month]. A significant number of guests were also present.

The weather in this country is quite unpredictable; although the sun was shining in the morning, it started raining by the time of the prayer. Consequently, the Eid prayer was performed under a light drizzle. A sermon was delivered after the prayer, outlining the teachings of Islam and highlighting the attributes of Ahmadiyya Jamaat. Then, following a silent prayer, friends embraced each other.

these words of the Promised Messiah: “I saw [in a vision] that I was standing on a pulpit in the city of London and was setting forth the truth of Islam in the English language, in a very well-reasoned address.”

In his speech during the concluding session, Sahibzada Mirza Waqas Ahmad, Sadr Majlis Ansarullah UK, mentioned some faith-inspiring incidents of the Companions of Promised Messiahas and urged the members to develop a living relationship with Khilafat.

The session concluded with silent prayer.

A total of 213 members, including 11 guests, attended the ijtema.

24 May 2024 Khilafat: The Divine bounty and blessings After reciting the tashahhud, ta‘awwuz, and Surah al-Fatihah, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa stated:

It is a blessing of Allah the Almighty upon us that He has enabled us to accept the Promised Messiahas, through whom Allah the Almighty had promised the revival of Islam. In accordance with the promises of Allah the Almighty and the prophecies of the Holy Prophetsa, the Promised Messiahas was sent by Allah the Almighty in subservience to the Holy Prophetsa in order to rejuvenate Islam. Furthermore, in accordance with these very promises of Allah the Almighty and these very prophecies of the Holy Prophetsa, the institution of Khilafat was established in his Jamaat. Hence, in order to manifest the fulfilment of the promises of Allah the Almighty and the prophecies of the Holy Prophetsa, every year we commemorate Khilafat Day on 27 May, wherever Jamaate-Ahmadiyya is established. On 26 May, the Promised Messiahas passed away and on 27 May, the Jamaat, in accordance with divine promises, elected Hazrat Maulana Hakim Noor-ud-Dinra as Khalifatul Masih I and took an oath and pledged initiation at his handsto carry on the mission of the Promised Messiahas.

Following the demise of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Ira, the Jamaat gathered at the hands of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IIra. Despite some internal hostilities and all forms of unfavourable circumstances, we witnessed scenes of the help and succour of Allah the Almighty. His Khilafat continued for approximately 52 years, during which we saw scenes of blessings in leaps and bounds.

Following the demise of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IIra, the era of the Third Khalifa commenced and during this era, we witnessed the progress of the Jamaat. The opponents made great efforts to try and efface the Jamaat. However, despite this, we

only find signs of progress in history.

Following this, when Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IIIrh passed away, Allah the Almighty once again manifested His power and the era of the Fourth Khalifa commenced, during which the opponents once again tried their level best to efface the Jamaat. However, they met with failure at every turn and due to this opposition, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh was forced to migrate from Pakistan.

He established the Jamaat’s headquarters in England and the world witnessed how the progress of the Jamaat continued to propel.

Those who wanted to stop the progress of the Jamaat became restless seeing its progress.

After the demise of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh, Allah the Almighty manifested the fulfilment of His promise once again as the Fifth Khalifa was elected. Despite my countless shortcomings, God Almighty granted me extraordinary support and succour, and the Jamaat has continued to progress further. Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya was established in dozens of more countries, and the Nizam-e-Jamaat [administrative structure] was further established in dozens

of countries and in hundreds of cities and regions, Allah the Almighty guided people by demonstrating His help and succour for Khilafat and instilled the passion in the hearts of people to form a bond with Khilafat and thus provided the means of establishing jamaats of devoted servants. And Allah the Almighty continues to show such signs.

The wondrous signs of people’s attachment to Khilafat and the success of the Jamaat were indeed bound to occur because this was a promise vouchsafed by Allah the Almighty and was then prophesied by the

Holy Prophetsa. Thus, neither does Allah the Almighty forget His promises, nor does He break them or, even in the slightest, fail to fulfil the prophecies of His most beloved Prophet, Hazrat Muhammadsa.

The Holy Prophetsa made a prophecy that prophethood will remain established among you as long as Allah the Almighty wills, i.e., the era of the Holy Prophetsa. He said that He would then bring about its end and follow it with Khilafat on the precepts of Prophethood. Following this, Allah the Almighty will remove this blessing as well whenever He pleases. Then, in accordance with His decree, a tyrannical monarchy would follow at which people would be dejected and perturbed. When this comes to an end, something even worse in the form of monarchical despotism would follow it according to Allah’s other decree until the mercy of Allah the Almighty is stirred and He will put an end to this period of tyranny and oppression. Thereafter, Khilafat on the precepts of prophethood will be established, and after saying this, the Holy Prophetsa remained silent. (Musnad Ahmad bin Hanbal, Vol. 6, Hadith 18596, ‘Alam alKutub, Beirut, 1998, p. 285) Thus, we are fortunate that we are witnessing the fulfilment of this prophecy.

Those who truly remain attached to the Jamaat of the Servant of the Holy Prophetsa, continue to become the recipients of Allah the Almighty’s grace.

We find that after the advent of the Promised Messiahas, even the so-called concept of Khilafat, which remained amongst the Muslims, came to an end. All that remains is the [Muslim] governments and even if they are oppressive governments, they will not be able to save themselves from being seized by Allah the Almighty.

At times, Allah the Almighty grants respite, but He eventually seizes the oppressors.

In any case, just as the Holy Prophetsa stated that Khilafat on the precepts of prophethood will be established and Allah the Almighty sent the Promised Messiahas, who was a servant of the Holy Prophetsa.

The Promised Messiahas also stated that after him, the institution of Khilafat will remain established in accordance with the prophecy of the Holy Prophetsa.

The Promised Messiahas stated that he was the Khatam al-Khulafa [Seal of the Khulafa] (Malfuzat [1984], Vol. 2, p. 282) and now whoever comes after him whom Allah the Almighty has bestowed the status of Khilafat, can only come as his follower.

Thus, no matter how much worldly effort one makes, one can never establish Khilafat independent from the Promised Messiahas. When the time of the Promised Messiah’sas demise drew near, he spoke of the establishment of Khilafat as follows: “Thus, He [Allah Almighty] manifests two kinds of Power. First, He shows the Hand of His Power at the hands of His Prophetsas themselves. Second, when with the death of a Prophetas, difficulties and problems arise and the enemy feels stronger and thinks that things are in disarray and is convinced that now this Jamaat will become extinct and even members of the Jamaat, too, are in a quandary and their backs are broken, and some of the unfortunate ones choose paths that lead to apostasy, then it is that God for the second time shows His Mighty Power and supports and takes care of the shaken Jamaat. Thus, one who remains steadfast

till the end witnesses this miracle of God. This is what happened at the time of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiqra, when the demise of the Holy Prophetsa was considered untimely and many an ignorant Bedouin turned apostate. The Companionsra of the Holy Prophetsa, too, stricken with grief, became like those who lose their senses. Then Allah raised Abu Bakr Siddiqra and showed for the second time the manifestation of His Power and saved Islam, just when it was about to fall, and fulfilled the promise which was spelt out in the verse:

َ� َ � َ َ َ ۡ َ َ َ ۡ َ� ُ‫َ َ َ � َ �َ َ ۡ َ ُه‬ ‫ِّم ۢ​ۢن َبَ ۡ​ۡع ِ​ِد‬ ‫ُهُم‬ ‫َلُهُۡم َوَل‬ ٗ ‫اۡرَت َ​َض ٰ​ٰى‬ ‫اَّل ِ​ِذ َي‬ ُ‫َلُهُۡم ِ​ِديَن ُم‬ ‫َوَلُيَُم ِ​ِّكَنَّن‬ ِ� ‫ُيَُب ِ​ِّدَلَّن‬ ‫َخۡوِۡفِ ِ​ِه ۡ​ۡم َأ ۡ​ۡمٗنا‬

“That is, after the fear We shall firmly reestablish them.” [Surah an-Nur, Ch.24: V.56] The Promised Messiahas further states, “[…] So dear friends! since it is the Sunnatullah [practice of Allah], from time immemorial, that God Almighty shows two Manifestations so that the two false joys of the opponents be put to an end, it is not possible now that God should relinquish His Sunnah of old. So do not grieve over what I have said to you; nor should your hearts be distressed. For it is essential for you to witness the second Manifestation also, and its Coming is better for you because it is everlasting, the continuity of which will not end till the Day of Judgment. And that second Manifestation cannot come unless I depart.”

I would also like to mention here that we can also derive the answer to those who are engaged in the debate about the age of the Promised Messiahas, that he didn’t count and state how many years of his life remained, rather he alluded to his passing, giving no importance to his age but to the completion of his task. As it were, he states: “But when I depart, God will send that second Manifestation for you which shall always stay with you just as promised by God in Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya. And this promise is not for my person. Rather the promise is with reference to you, as God [addressing me] says: I shall make this Jamaat who are your followers, prevail over others till the Day of Judgment. Thus, it is inevitable that you see the day of my departure, so that after that day the day comes which is the day of ever-lasting promise. Our God is He Who keeps His promise and is Faithful and is the Truthful God. He shall show you all that He has promised. Though these days are the last days of this world and there are many a disaster waiting to happen, yet it is necessary that this world continues to exist until all those things about which God has prophesied come to pass.” (The Will [AlWasiyyat], pp. 5-8) Thus, among the promises made to the Promised Messiahas, some have been fulfilled, whilst others will be fulfilled in the future, and we shall continue to witness their fulfilment. Therefore, as I mentioned in the beginning, after the passing of the Promised Messiahas in accordance with the promise of Allah the Almighty, the era of the first Khalifa began, and the Jamaat progressed further ahead. Then came the era of the Second Khalifa and the Jamaat grew by further leaps and bounds, and it became established in many countries of the world. Thereafter, then came the era of the Third Khalifa in which further progress was made. Then came the era of the Fourth Khalifa and new avenues of progress were

opened. Now there is the era of the Fifth Khalifa and the Jamaat continues to advance to new heights. Despite the full efforts of the opponents, the Jamaat is advancing even further ahead. In fact, as has always been the case, Allah Almighty is Himself guiding the hearts of people sitting in distant lands who have never even seen any Khalifa, and bringing them under the banner of Khilafat.

There are millions of such people, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, whose hearts are opened by Allah the Almighty. Furthermore, whilst fulfilling the promise to the Promised Messiahas, Allah the Almighty manifests the support and succour of the Jamaat every single day.

I shall present some accounts which highlight the support of Allah the Almighty for Khilafat-e-Ahmadiyya and the fulfilment of His promises which we witness. Allah the Almighty has promised to establish and preserve Khilafat, but how does He instil the sentiments in the hearts of people to develop a connection with it and to remain attached to it? In relation to this, a mu’allim of Burkina Faso, a country in Africa, writes: “The first time MTA was established and people saw their Khalifa on screen, their eyes welled with tears of joy and their faces were awash with happiness. After some days, a delegation visited and expressed gratitude to MTA, saying that ‘Normally we cannot travel to meet the Khalifatul Masih, but seeing Khalifatul Masih on MTA soothes our eyes and calms our hearts; this has become our daily routine – to keep “meeting” our Khalifa through MTA.’” So, this is how God Almighty is kindling love for Khilafat in the hearts of even those who have never met the Khalifa.

Then, describing how God Almighty guides people to Islam through Khilafat-eAhmadiyya, Amir Sahib The Gambia writes: “Samba Sahib, a motor-mechanic by profession, happened to see Khalifatul Masih delivering a speech or a sermon on MTA. Upon hearing it, he started saying, ‘There is no doubt that this person has the support of God Almighty.’ Thus, Samba Sahib converted along with his entire family of 14 people to Islam Ahmadiyya.

“Prior to this, his business was struggling, but soon after it picked up. He explains that this was all due to the blessings of Ahmadiyyat. There is no doubt, he writes, that Ahmadiyyat is like a brilliant light against the darkness.”

Those who are not in the Jamaat also witness the blessings of Khilafat and join the Jamaat.

I have given an example from Africa, now there is one of an Arab in Germany.

Germany’s Secretary Tabligh writes that an individual came to the tabligh stall in Germany and took home a copy of the Holy Quran and gave his contact number to the Ahmadi to keep in touch. Last year, this man was invited to attend the Jalsa Salana in Germany. (This incident is from a few years ago, so when I say a year back, it is referring to a year prior to when this incident originally took place.) Owing to his exams, he wasn’t able to attend the Jalsa but sent his older brother to attend in his stead.

After hearing my address at the Jalsa, his older brother expressed that this man surely enjoys the special support of God. God Almighty placed the truthfulness of Khilafat in his heart. This individual filled out the bai‘at form that very night and joined Islam

Ahmadiyya.

It is only Allah the Almighty Who can place such feelings in the hearts of people, and He does this according to His promises.

The other Arab individual who was related to him, although he didn’t take the bai‘at that same night, he continued to ask questions about the Jamaat. He also partook in a group meeting for Arabs with myself. In this gathering, he sought to ask a question about the concept of declaring someone a disbeliever, but someone else asked his question first, to which I gave a detailed answer. Upon hearing my answer, the man’s heart was put at ease and he filled out the bai‘at form before the bai‘at ceremony even took place. He submitted his written form and partook in the bai‘at ceremony as well.

The Amir of The Gambia writes regarding how Allah the Almighty gathers pious souls and causes them to enter the fold of Jamaat and fulfil the promises regarding divine support for Khilafat. He says, “There is a place called Kerngorr; when the Jamaat was established there, an individual named AlHajji Fae Sahib severely opposed the Jamaat.

He wouldn’t even bear to touch the literature of the Jamaat, but our Jamaat preachers did not lose hope, and consistently preached to him. One day, a Tarbiyyati programme was held for new Ahmadis in the village.

Our dai‘een [preachers] convinced this man that even if he didn’t want to read a book, he should come at least once to the mission house with them and participate in the programme.

They said they wouldn’t preach to him at all, nor would they talk to him about such subjects at all. He should just participate in the programme and listen to it. Thus, when this man came to the mission house, he said, ‘I do not want to participate in your class. I can just sit in this television room and watch the television.’ Thus, they seated him in this room and turned MTA on the television. After leaving him there, the rest of the people went to the mosque to attend the programme. (During this time, the man listened to my Friday Sermon on MTA.) When they spoke to him after the class, he began to say, ‘This man is not a liar (meaning this Khilafat seems to be a true Khilafat). Now, I can’t turn away from this.’

Thus, this person performed the bai‘at along with 10 members of his family and joined the Jamaat.”

Can this be the work of man? Surely, Allah the Almighty causes His promises to be fulfilled.

There is another incident of one strengthening their bond with Khilafat, and how Allah the Almighty fulfils His promises.

In a city called Ngaoundéré in Cameroon, a particular neighbourhood saw eight families perform the bai‘at and join the Jamaat. The new converts say that MTA has forever changed the lives of our children, and their religious knowledge has increased. There is a young man among them named Abdur Rahman who is doing his O-levels. He avidly listens to my sermons and is a great admirer.

Every Friday, he tells his schoolteacher that “I have to go home to listen to the Friday Sermon. I can leave school, but I cannot leave the Friday Sermon.” This is the level of his faith. His father has said that every Friday, he comes home to listen to the Friday Sermon. Abdur Rahman himself says, “By listening to the Friday Sermon, my faith and knowledge increases; whatever evil deeds I

AL HAKAM | Friday 21 June 2024 used to do before, I have left them all.” Thus, these are the people who fulfil their promise to build a connection with Khilafat. A time will certainly come when they will advance and rise to the top, because they wish to be the fulfilment of this promise.

Then, there is an incident regarding how Allah the Almighty guides people to Khilafat and the promise of Allah the Almighty to attach them with the Khilafat of the Promised Messiahas. There were a great deal of preaching efforts made in Burkina Faso, but they did not yield any fruits. As the mu’allim was leaving, he said that he told some people, “When you come to the city, then definitely come to my house.” Thus, after some days, one of those men, named Bone Sahib, came to his house, and they turned on MTA. After some time, when he saw me on MTA, he said, “I have seen this person before in my dream.” Thus, right at that moment, he entered the fold of Ahmadiyyat without asking for a single proof. When he went back and told the villagers, many other members also accepted Ahmadiyyat. Now, by the grace of God, there is a strong Jamaat established in that village.

Then, another manifestation of Allah the Almighty’s support is the manner in which Allah the Almighty establishes a connection with Khilafat in people’s hearts and opens their hearts to the true teachings of Islam. In this regard, Sultan Sahib from Kyrgyzstan – a completely different region – says, “My son and wife had already accepted Ahmadiyyat.

In 2017 I started going to the Jamaat’s mission house every Friday. As my wife and I would drive approximately 12 kilometres to the Jamaat’s mission house for the Friday prayers, we would always listen to a recording of the Friday sermon delivered by the Khalifa of the time.” He says, “Every time I listened to these sermons, my convictions would grow stronger. Hence, this year, on 2 May (– this is from 2022 –) at the end of the blessed month of Ramadan, on the day of Eid, I did the bai‘at [initiation]. I had wished to do so earlier, but one way or another it would get delayed.” He says, “I have written this briefly, but all that is happening within my soul cannot be expressed. (It cannot be stated in words.) In every salat, I pray to Allah for increased knowledge of Islam.

Every Jumuah prayer constantly opens a new path for me in some way.”

Guinea-Bissau is another country. How is Allah the Almighty opening the hearts of people through Khilafat? There is an incident of Uthman Balde Sahib, who is a new convert and lives in another part [of Guinea-Bissau]. When he learned that many of his relatives were accepting Ahmadiyyat, he gathered some clerics and went to their area in order to oppose the Jamaat. Our local missionary told them that they could certainly show opposition, however, they should first listen to our message. (At least the people there have the decency that even if they are going to oppose, they are prepared to hear the message. They do not show stubbornness like people do in Pakistan.)

The cleric refused because this is the nature of clerics and so he was bound to refuse. However Uthman Sahib accepted this invitation and proceeded to hear the Jamaat’s message. He was informed about the advent of the Promised Messiahas. It so happened that the day he came was a Friday and my sermon was being shown there live on MTA. He was told that all Ahmadis listen

to the sermon delivered by the Khalifa of the time and if he had time he should certainly listen to the sermon as well. Upon this, he said that he would only listen to the sermon for a short while, however, when he started listening to the sermon, he forgot about the time and listened to the entire sermon very intently.

Afterwards, he said, “The Ahmadiyya Jamaaty cannot be disbelievers as I have heard, because your Khalifa is presenting the history of the Companions of the Holy Prophetsa.” Sometimes, some Ahmadis question why it is necessary to tell them about Islamic history – this has become a means of propagation to other Muslims, and that is what makes it necessary, and it also increases our own knowledge in matters many did not even know. He says, “A disbelieving Jamaat could never present the history of the Companions.” Thereafter, he stopped opposing the Jamaat, and along with the rest of his family, he accepted Ahmadiyyat. Now, by the grace of Allah the Almighty, he propagates the message in his area and has formally become a part of the Jamaat’s system.

Then, there is another incident of nonAhmadis being guided through the voice of Khilafat. A local missionary from CongoKinshasa says, “A scheme for propagation was initiated in one of the areas here upon which certain non-Ahmadis started systematically raising opposition. Then, after three months, one day, someone from among those very same opponents, Uthman Sahib, contacted the mission and said that he wished to join the Jamaat along with his entire family. When asked about the reason, he said, ‘One day, my wife was watching a satellite channel and happened to come across your channel, MTA. Since she knew that I was at the forefront of opposing Ahmadiyyat she called me over. When I started saying things about the Jamaat, my wife told me to speak after listening to the entire programme.’” At that time my sermon was being relayed. He says, “After listening to the sermon, I was convinced that the voice which I heard that day presented the true image of Islam. After listening to the Khalifa, there remained no doubt about the truthfulness of this Jamaat.”

How does Allah the Almighty establish love for Khilafat in the hearts? How does he increase people’s faith? How does a person who is thousands of miles away and has never met the Khalifa – as I said before – express his sentiments? Umar Sahib from Senegal says, “Whenever I listen to your sermons I feel a unique sense of pleasure in my heart. Pray that this feeling always remains. Upon listening to the sermon my eyes fill with tears. I love you. Pray that my love for the Messengersa of God, the Promised Messiahas and his Successors supersedes my love for the world and all that is in it.” He says, “It is through your prayers that my business has seen success.” This is all a fulfilment of Allah the Almighty’s promise to the Promised Messiahas.

Ameer Sahib of Belgium writes, “I have a Moroccan friend by the name of Mustafa.

He entered the fold of Ahmadiyyat after researching for a long time. He says, ‘I have spent a lot of time around scholars ever since my childhood, however, the sermons of the Khalifa of the time are not only true interpretations of the Holy Quran, but they also take one nearer to Allah the

Almighty.’ He further says, ‘After listening to these sermons, I began to find delight in my prayers. Allah the Almighty also showed me true dreams. Ahmadiyyat has transformed my life,’ and whilst recounting these thoughts, his eyes became tearful.”

According to His promise, Allah the Almighty is supporting the Khilafat of the Promised Messiahas and opening the hearts of people. In relation to this, there is another incident.

A missionary in Guinea-Bissau writes, “We had the opportunity to install MTA in 21 localities. Last year, as a result of preaching, a village entered the fold of Ahmadiyyat, however, four families in that village refused to accept Ahmadiyyat. When our team went to that village to install MTA, our mu’allim, Muhammad Massaliau Jalo Sahib, invited those families to the mosque in order that they may see the images of our Khalifa and the Imam Mahdi on our Muslim TV channel. By the time the installation for MTA was complete, it was time for Maghrib prayers. The TV was turned off so that prayers could be offered. Following the prayers, the TV was turned on and a sermon was playing. The non-Ahmadi guests watched attentively, and the mu’allim said to them, ‘The sermon is playing in English, so I will translate it for you because you deserve to know what the Khalifa is saying.’ Upon this, a guest said, ‘I do not understand what is being said. Nonetheless, I swear by God that he cannot be a liar. If he is the Khalifa of the Ahmadiyya Jamaat, then the Ahmadiyya Jamaat cannot be false and I proclaim, here and now, that I accept Ahmadiyyat.’” This is another way that Allah the Almighty changes hearts; Khilafat is a significant means for propagating Islam. By observing it, pious-natured people come to know about the true teachings of Islam and enter the Jamaat of the Promised Messiahas.

Amir Sahib of The Gambia writes, “We went to a place called Samba to propagate Islam. We informed the people about the advent of the Promised Messiahas and read out the conditions of entering the fold of his Jamaat. Upon this, the alkali (or chief) of the village and Chairman of the Progressive Community immediately said, ‘The Holy Prophetsa prophesied the coming of the Imam Mahdi. Today, for the first time, I am hearing about the coming of the Imam Mahdi. Ever since I came across Ahmadiyyat, I was greatly impacted by it.’ He further said, ‘Only Ahmadis are true Muslims because they have the strength of Khilafat that has united them all.’” Then, when he was shown my picture, he said, “I can see truth in him.

We also watch him on TV.” Thereafter, all the people – who were great in number – took the pledge of allegiance. When they saw that the Holy Quran was translated in three of their local languages, namely Fula, Mandinka and Wolof, they said, “It is only Ahmadiyyat that is the true Islam. No other sect has had the honour that Ahmadis have been granted.” To conclude, he said, “I will – God-willing – remain firm on my faith in Ahmadiyyat, and I will never back down because this is the true Islam. Other clerics would just come to deceive us.”

Furthermore, the missionary in Mali writes, “A person came to Radio Ahmadiyya and said, ‘I would like to pledge allegiance.

Today, I am being saved from the Hellfire by Ahmadiyyat.’ I asked him what he meant, to which he replied, ‘Some clerics and scholars

have said that prayer is not necessary, and so they themselves have abandoned the practice of prayer altogether. (They have become passive regarding prayer.)

However, the sermon of the Khalifa on the importance of prayer which I heard on Radio Ahmadiyya had a deep impact on me.

After hearing that, I considered abandoning prayer akin to entering the Hellfire. Thus, from today, I am an Ahmadi and will never forgo prayer.’” This is the effect that newcomers are taking. Existing members of the Jamaat should evaluate themselves. The clerics speak against us and publish their religious edicts, declaring us as disbelievers.

However, their own condition is that they deny a fundamental pillar of Islam. It is a favour of Allah the Almighty that He is guiding people by virtue of Khilafat and liberating them from those who are corrupting the faith.

The missionary of Nigeria writes, “Satellite dishes have been installed in many places to watch MTA. We watch the sermons and other programmes. One person said, ‘I had many reservations regarding the Jamaat, and I could not reconcile my heart.

However, when I listened to the sermon of the Imam of the Ahmadiyya Jamaat, my heart naturally became satisfied. I found the true Islam and all my reservations vanished.

I have now joined the Jamaat.’”

Then there is another incident from The Gambia which demonstrates how pious souls have been guided. Whilst mentioning a dream of his, Muhammad Sowe Sahib, states, “Last night, in a dream I saw a person who came and firmly gripped my hand and said, ‘May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon you.’” in his dream, he did not recognise who this person was and the people informed him that he was the Imam of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat.

The next morning, he came to the mission house and narrated the dream to the local mu’allim. The mu’allim put on MTA which was showing the Friday Sermon. When he saw me [on MTA], he spontaneously said: “This is the same person who I saw in my dream last night.” After this, he accepted Ahmadiyyat.

The Missionary-in-Charge of Cameroon writes that in the town of Maroua, lots of people watch MTA Africa and also join the Jamaat. A mu’allim and imam, Ahmadu Sahib says, “Through watching MTA our faith increases and through the sermons of the Khalifa and programmes in Arabic, a light has developed within us, which has vanquished the darkness. It seems as though prior to MTA and Ahmadiyyat, we were like animals, and now, after MTA, we have become humans.”

How does Allah the Almighty open the hearts of the people in support of Khilafat?

There is another incident. A mu’allim in Cameroon writes, “On one occasion I was delivering the Friday Sermon and people were slowly coming to the mosque. I saw a man wearing a coat and a turban, entering the mosque. After the prayers I asked him why he was wearing that attire. He replied, ‘I have a spiritual leader and he wears this kind of attire. If you wish to know more, on cable there is a channel called MTA Africa, you should watch it. His sermons are broadcast on this channel and he holds question and answer sessions with children.

When you see him you will realise that he is truthful and is supported by Allah the

Almighty.’ Upon this, I informed him about the ten conditions of bai‘at and showed him a picture from the “Al-Taqwa” magazine.

(He showed him a picture of me.) I told him that this mosque was built by that same Imam. He did not know that this was a mosque of the Ahmadiyya Jamaat and that I was a missionary of the Jamaat. Upon this the gentleman became elated and pledged allegiance with his entire family.”

These were only a few accounts which I have mentioned. They demonstrate the succour of God which was mentioned by the words vouchsafed to the Promised Messiahas that the Second Manifestation of God would be established and would continue.

And through this now, the dominance and supremacy of Islam is destined. Allah the Almighty Himself is opening the hearts of the people. He is establishing the influence of the Ahmadiyya Khilafat in the hearts of others and attaching those with a virtuous disposition to Khilafat. Every single day of the 116 years of the Ahmadiyya Khilafat is proof that it is only Allah the Almighty Who supports the Ahmadiyya Khilafat, and that with each passing day, the Ahmadiyya Jamaat is treading on the path of progress.

May Allah the Almighty grant me the opportunity to fulfil this significant responsibility and may He keep every Ahmadi attached to Khilafat with complete loyalty and sincerity. May Khilafat-eAhmadiyya be blessed with sincere and righteous individuals until the Day of Judgement. May Allah fulfil all those objectives which He promised through the Promised Messiahas. Through the Ahmadiyya Khilafat, may the Kingdom of the One True God be established on earth and may the flag of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, be raised aloft for all the world to witness.

After the Friday prayer, I shall lead the funeral prayer in absentia of two members.

The first is of Chaudhry Muhammad Idrees Nasrullah Khan Sahib. He passed away at the age of 90 and was residing in Canada:

ۤ َ� �ٰ َ� ‫ِ​ِاَّنا ِلِّٰل ِ​ِہ َ​َو ِ​ِاَّنۤا ِ​ِاَل َ ۡ​ۡی ِ​ِہ ٰ​ٰر ِ​ِجُعُۡوۡ َ​َن‬

[“Surely, to Allah we belong and to Him shall we return.”]

By the grace of Allah the Almighty he was a musi. His grandfather, Hazrat Chaudhry Nasrullah Khan Sahibra had the opportunity to serve among the first Nazir-e-A’la. Idrees Nasrullah Khan Sahib was the nephew of Hazrat Chaudhry Zafrulla Khan Sahibra.

His father served as the Amir of Karachi for a very long time. Idrees Nasrullah Sahib was also the great-grandson of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Ira. Idrees Sahib’s maternal grandfather was Hazrat Chaudhry Fateh Muhammad Sayalra, who was among the pioneer life-devotees and also among the pioneer missionaries to serve in England and was a means of hundreds of people entering the fold of Ahmadiyyat. Idrees Nasrullah Sahib had the opportunity to serve as the Secretary Umur-e-Ammah for Lahore for a period of more than 30 years. He also served as a member of the Ifta Committee and Qadha Committee and also as its president.

During the era of the third Khalifa, in which there was great unrest against the Jamaat, his name is foremost among the lawyers

who rendered a historic service. During the Samdani Tribunal, which was formed due to the incident that occurred in Rabwah in 1974, Idrees Nasrullah Sahib was present in the courtroom with Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IIIrh. Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IIIrh had appointed him as a member of many committees. He also attended the Conference on The Deliverance from The Cross in representation of the Jamaat members of Lahore. He also had the good fortune to be part of the entourage of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh from Rabwah to Karachi during his historic migration to London. He was extremely wise and had a bond of great loyalty and sincerity with Khilafat and this is something that I personally witnessed.

May Allah the Almighty enable his children to continue his good deeds and grant him His forgiveness and mercy.

The next mention is of respected Kanwar Idrees Sahib from Karachi, son of Chaudhry Aziz Ahmad Sahib Bajwah. He passed away at the age of 90:

ۤ َ� �ٰ َ� ‫ِ​ِاَّنا ِلِّٰل ِ​ِہ َ​َو ِ​ِاَّنۤا ِ​ِاَل َ ۡ​ۡی ِ​ِہ ٰ​ٰر ِ​ِجُعُۡوۡ َ​َن‬

[“Surely, to Allah we belong and to Him shall we return.”]

He was the grandson of Hazrat Chaudhry Muhammad Hussainra and Hazrat Sardar Begumra, who were companions of the Promised Messiahas. By the grace of Allah the Almighty, the deceased was a musi. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters. From 1959 he worked in the Civil Service and served for a period of 35 years in various posts both in the central and regional government. He was always seen as an extremely trustworthy and responsible individual. This excellent conduct of his was due to the advice of his father, which he imparted to him at the time of his joining the civil service. His father said to him that he would be more aggrieved to hear that Idrees had taken a bribe than he would be if he heard that he had passed away. This was the manner in which his father trained him and the advice he gave him. He produced the English translation of Hazrat Chaudhry Zafrulla Khan Sahib’sra famous book about his life, “Tahdith-e-Ni’mat” as a result of which, it was introduced to the English-

speaking audience.

From 1998 to 2007, he had the opportunity to serve in the majlis-e-amila of the Karachi district Jamaat as Secretary Umur-e-Kharijah. During the interim government, he had the opportunity to serve as the chief minister of a provincial government. He once wrote a letter to Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IVrh and started the letter with the words “Bismillah” upon which an opposing cleric filed a report against him and he was tied up with this case for a long time. He always treated everyone with great kindness and would always seek to make reconciliation. In fact, even the cleric who filed the case against him, when the case ended, the cleric sought financial help due to his straitened circumstances and Idrees Sahib gave a large sum to him. May Allah the Almighty grant him His forgiveness and mercy and enable his progeny to continue his good deeds.
