Members of Majlis Ansarullah Switzerland were blessed to meet Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V, may Allah be his Helper, on 13 November 2022 through a virtual mulaqat. The ansar also included some aseeran-e-rah-e-maula (those who had been imprisoned due to their faith) and some who were meeting Huzooraa for the very first time. Huzooraa spoke to each of these members and asked them about their backgrounds. Thereafter, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa answered the questions the ansar had.

Rizwan Mubashar Sahib said that by Allah’s grace the Jamaat was spreading

rapidly, he asked Huzooraa what country would convert to Islam Ahmadiyyat first and by what system it would be governed.

Huzooraa replied: “It is Allah’s grace that the Jamaat is spreading and Allah knows best what country will accept and it is our desire that an [entire] country accepts Ahmadiyyat, even if it be a small one. May Allah grant the opportunity to our missionaries and preachers to carry out tabligh and may Allah also open the hearts of people so they are able to accept the Jamaat and the Promised Messiahas and, as a result, come into the

safety of Islam and under the banner of the Holy Prophetsa.

“However, I personally do not know what country will be first – Allah alone is the Knower of the Unseen and knows what country will be first and what exactly will happen.”

Regarding what system an Ahmadi country will be governed by, Huzooraa said: “The governmental systems will continue as they are. Khilafat will not run a kingship, nor will the [parallel] system Continued on next page >>

“In this age, people express a strong aversion when they hear the word ‘religion’ and to accept the true religion is as if they were entering the jaws of death. A true religion is one to which the ‘hidden law’ testifies as well. For example, we put forth the concept presented by Islam known as the Unity of God, and claim that this is the true teaching of the Divine. This is because the teaching instilled in the very disposition of man is that of God’s Unity. A view of nature also bears testimony to this effect. God Almighty has made His creation individually distinct, but pulls them to a unified centre, which demonstrates that it was unity that was always intended. If one releases a droplet of water, they will see that it is spherical in form. The moon, sun and all the celestial bodies are round, and the spherical form necessitates oneness.”

that was in place during the time of the Khulafa-e-Rashideen be reinstated. Rather, Khilafat and worldly governments will remain independent from one another. [...]

Those systems will continue as they are and this is the indication we find in the Holy Quran as well. […] Allah says in Surah alHujurat, that when two Muslim nations fight with one another, then you should make peace between them, and the nations that are establishing the peace between them should do it with justice and when peace has been established, there should be no retribution or injustice. This means there will be Muslim governments or rather a large number of them and everyone will be running their governments according to Islamic governance. And where matters of sharia, obedience and spirituality are concerned, they will consult the Khalifa of the time.”

Basharat Ahmad Anees Sahib said that in the last meeting with Majlis Ansarullah Switzerland, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa had instructed the majlis to spread the message of Islam Ahmadiyyat to at least 50% of Switzerland. Basharat Sahib said Majlis Ansarullah Switzerland was trying its best but faced financial hurdles in achieving this target, for example, higher budgets were needed for printing more literature.

Basharat Sahib asked Huzooraa if Ansarullah Switzerland could seek assistance from the national Jamaat for more literature.

Huzooraa said they could indeed seek help from the Jamaat for literature and then distribute it amongst the Swiss population.

Huzooraa said a consolidated effort between Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, Lajna Imaillah and Ansarullah and the national Jamaat was required to spread the message of Islam Ahmadiyyat, and therefore Ansarullah could seek assistance from the Jamaat to acquire literature. Huzooraa said Ansarullah could request the Jamaat they needed a certain amount of literature, which they would then distribute in a certain amount of time and after the Jamaat provided it Ansarullah should ensure they distributed it.

“Therefore, you can seek help [from the Jamaat] and this requires cooperation between both of you. Allah says to help one another in righteousness and piety and spreading Allah’s message is a righteous deed, therefore you can.”

Tahir Mahmood Sahib asked how the Russia-Ukraine war could further impact the world and in the event of a world war, how Ahmadiyyat would spread after the war. Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa said: “The war has started, this is just the beginning.”

Discussing the current situation between Russia and Ukraine and its wider impact, Huzooraa continued: “The claim that ‘Russia evacuated a Ukrainian city and therefore we are victorious’ has been responded to by the Ukrainian government as well, who have said not to be so jubilant; no victory has been achieved. It could also be a strategy of Russia that they purposefully evacuated a city, and you begin to think one city has been abandoned [by Russia] therefore more will be [abandoned] and Russia will withdraw as a result of which the war will end.

“This war will escalate further and blocks have begun to form. The friendship between

Iran and Russia is increasing and China and Russia are developing relations – blocks are forming. Then tensions are developing between North Korea and South Korea and there’s the issue of Taiwan. The developing situation in the world is deteriorating the state of the world further. […]”

Huzooraa expressed that it was wishful thinking that these world powers were coming to their senses and the war would end just because Russia had lost a city, etc.

Huzooraa said: “These people will not come to their senses. The apparent facts and conditions indicate this war will escalate further. How many years it will take to escalate, Allah knows best. Even the first two world wars did not start out as international wars.

First, blocks developed, they broke and new blocks formed, nevertheless blocks were made and the war continued. The relationship between Germany and Russia changed during World War II. Similarly, this can happen in modern times as well.”

Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa said, “I am giving this warning repeatedly,” that if the world does not pay heed and turn to God, a global war is very possible.

Huzooraa said: “Allah has said in the Holy Quran that there are God’s promises and His warnings.

The [eventualities of those] warnings can be averted.” Allah said that if people reformed themselves, sought Allah’s forgiveness and followed His commandments, they would be saved and would also realise why they were saved. Huzooraa said the people of Hazrat Yunusas were saved after seeking Allah’s forgiveness. Today, if the world sought forgiveness from God, paid heed and was saved, then it was “The duty of Jamaate-Ahmadiyya to further spread its preaching and inform people that ‘look, you sought forgiveness and you were saved. You fulfilled one part of seeking forgiveness and now, if you desire lasting safety, you must accept the Imam of the age and the last prophet of this age, the Holy Prophetsa. Once you accept to come under his safety and develop a true relationship with Allah then you will secure lasting protection. Otherwise, from time to time, you will continue to fall into such situations; destruction and discord will continuously appear’. At that time, you will be able to preach freely and you will need to preach.

“From what is apparent, it seems that if these nations do not come to their senses, this war will escalate. […] The time of when it will escalate, only Allah knows best. The conditions are not good, they are bad.”

Shamim Ahmad Qazi Sahib said that during Covid-19, communication was extremely limited and its effects have lingered in that some people are still not attending Jamaat events as they did before the pandemic. Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa said the UK Jalsa Salana was held so that people realised we are to meet one another, offer prayers together and go to the mosques.

Only some conditions, like the amount of social distancing etc. had changed, but people attended in person. Huzooraa said that during his recent visit to the USA, people were adhering to Covid-19 protocols like wearing masks and social distancing, but they still attended the mosques for prayers, stood next to each other and met one another.

Huzooraa said he had set these examples

for the Jamaat to follow and now it was the responsibility of the Jamaat to follow them and bring people to the mosques and Jamaat events. Huzooraa said the Jamaat must take people out of the habit of offering prayers at home, which was developed during the Covid-19 pandemic and children should be taught that prayers are to be offered at the mosque. Huzooraa said he participated in the UK Jalsa and also went to the USA on a tour; therefore, people should follow suit and catch on. Huzooraa expressed: “The one who wants to reform himself does so even with the slightest hint and the one who does not want to, will not.”

Huzooraa said all the auxiliaries – Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya, Lajna Imaillah and Ansarullah – should strive to encourage their members to participate in Jamaat events and offer prayers. Parents should encourage their children and ansar members should encourage their whole family. Huzooraa said the habits of ease that were developed over two and a half years would at least take a year to rectify. Huzooraa said that with effort and exhortation, the situation of people not attending Jamaat events and prayers will, insha-Allah, get better again. However, constant efforts were required.

Naeem Ullah Sahib said that while preaching in Switzerland, they often experienced that members of the public accepted the arguments and teachings of Ahmadiyyat but would not take bai‘at. To this, Huzooraa responded by saying: “Worldly people will accept the arguments, they will accept everything, however, when has Allah said that whomever you preach to will accept? Allah the Almighty said to the Holy Prophetsa as well:

ُۡۤ ۡ ّ َ ‫بَ ِلغ َما ان ِز َل ِال َ ۡیک‬

[“convey (to the people) what has been revealed to thee”, (Surah al-Maidah, Ch.5: V.68)] “The commandment is to do tabligh and Allah has said that giving guidance ‘is not your job, your job is to convey the message, Mine is to give guidance’.

“You should convey the message and pray for the person too. Do you offer any nafl for the tabligh contact with the same zeal and passion you have for carrying out tabligh itself? Do you prostrate [before God] for them? If prostrations and prayers are offered with the same zeal and passion, Allah blesses those efforts too. Therefore, prayer is essential along with preaching.”

Huzooraa said that those preaching, would not be held responsible for why the people they preached to did not convert.

Huzooraa also gave an example from the Holy Quran where Allah mentioned a blind companion of the Holy Prophetsa and said to the Prophetsa that he did not know if the leader whom he was preaching to (while disregarding the blind companion) would even convert to Islam or not. [Holy Quran, Surah ’Abasa, Ch. 80] “By giving these examples […] Allah made it clear that your duty is to convey the message, so convey it. Apart from this, giving guidance is Allah’s job.

“And take care of your own too, develop love and brotherhood amongst yourselves, as a result, unity and fraternity will be established in the Jamaat. […]

“You preach outside to people and are conveying the message in an excellent

manner, but amongst some of you, lots of hostilities and ill-will have developed, or they don’t desist from talking against each other and resentment has developed in the hearts for no reason. Thus, try to remove those as well.

“You should be one and unified, then exert your efforts. Allah blesses it then as well. Also, pray! And pray together, then Allah will bless it as well.”

Huzooraa said that Allah commanded us to convey the message and if we did not convey the message then we would be questioned about it by Allah. However, nowhere had Allah said we would be questioned if we did not eventually manage to convert someone.

Preaching was essential for us and it was for Allah’s grace to guide someone. Huzooraa said preaching required hard work and prayers and then Allah blessed it.

Rafiu Idris Sahib said that in the commentary on verse 117 of Surah al’A‘raf it was said that prophets generally never attacked first. Idris Sahib said that despite this, Hazrat Sulemanas attacked Queen Sheba without any provocation, he said this seemed like an exception to the rule and asked why Hazrat Sulemanas “was the aggressor”. In reply, Hazrat Amirul Momineenaa said: “He was not the aggressor. He sent the message to the Queen that she should not worship [others besides Allah] or make partners with Allah the Almighty or she should not worship idols. And he said that ‘I am sending you this message that you accept the omnipotence of Allah the Almighty and […] that He is All-Powerful. But if you did not do it, then, of course, I will come and give you the message […] Then, Queen Saba accepted the message and he never attacked her and let her remain at her position.

“This means that prophets never attack to snatch the power of somebody, never attack to capture the lands, never attack to destroy the people. Yes, of course, they fight when they are attacked. Here, it is a different thing, it was a way of spreading the message of Allah the Almighty and even then, he did not want to destroy the nation. He said that when the Queen will be captured, then the people will know that the god of the Queen or the idol she was worshipping or she was asking her subjects to worship, were wrong and they will accept the message of one God. “So, here there’s a subtle difference, the purpose is not to destroy and capture the land or the nation – the purpose is to spread the message of Allah the Almighty, Unity of Allah, Oneness of Allah. And when it was accepted, he never attacked. Had he had some worldly desire, he would not have stopped attacking the Queen. So, in my view, this is the subtle difference.

“I don’t have the commentary in front of me now, so what I have understood from this is that there’s a subtle difference of attacking; attacking for worldly desires and sending them the message of Allah the Almighty. And he did not attack, he only said that ‘you only accept one God’. And he did not want that his neighbour should be the worshipper of idols.

“This is the subtle difference that I understand. It was not for the purpose of snatching the rights of others, it was not the purpose of capturing the land, it was not the purpose of making the nation a slave, the purpose was quite different; just to spread

AL HAKAM | Friday 18 November 2022 the message. Once it was realised by the Queen, everything was settled down and she remained the Queen of that area.”

Another questioner spoke about the continuing adverse condition of Pakistan and asked what one could do to improve the disorder there. In response, Huzooraa asked the questioner why he had migrated to Switzerland, if it was possible to improve the situation in Pakistan. Huzooraa noted that the questioner left Pakistan because it was not possible to improve its condition and desired a better life for himself by migrating to Switzerland.

Huzooraa said one could only pray for Pakistan, however, “Where the whole lot has gone astray, there is no hope that their ways can be corrected”.

Mian Nasir Sahib asked how the messages of the Khalifa would reach Ahmadis if a war erupted and communications were disrupted. Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa said: “Don’t worry, Allah the Almighty will create the means. Get a satellite phone and through it, the Amir Jamaat will get the [Khalifa’s] messages, so he will convey them to the Jamaat.”

Rehmatullah Zahid Sahib said there were good business opportunities in some Arab countries that people were benefiting from. He asked Huzooraa if investing in such countries was a good idea, particularly for those living in the West, keeping in mind the current condition of the world. Huzooraa said: “We cannot predict what will happen tomorrow in the world. If the conditions for doing business in Arab countries are better, then one most definitely should. There is no harm. The conditions in Europe are worsening, right? Therefore, you will have to venture out of Europe somewhere.”

Mirza Usman Baig Sahib asked about climate change and what one could do about it individually, as a community and at the political level.

“I have instructed children and women as well that, individually, they can plant trees and pay attention to [reducing] carbon emissions. Try to use cars and other vehicles at a minimum. If you have to travel a short distance then instead of going in your car or motorcycle, you can walk there. Use cycles and plant more trees. […]

“Apart from this, it is the responsibility of governments to plant more and organise industry in a way that reduces carbon emissions the most.

“China now says it is 50-60 years behind the carbon emissions produced by Europe and America in the last 50-60 years as a result of their industrial growth, and so it [China] will continue and will see what changes to make in the future. Everyone desires their own benefit, so this is how people see things at the political or national levels.”

Huzooraa spoke about the recent floods in Pakistan: “People also link everything to politics.

People question why Pakistan is to blame for the recent floods that came. [They say] climate change is the result of the carbon emissions of the West, Europe and developed nations. However, what role has Pakistan played in this?

“Pakistan cut down all its forests.

Landowners and politicians joined together and cleared all the mountains of Swat, Murree, Naran and Kaghan for their vested interests and destroyed all those areas. Then

they didn’t even construct any dams and there were ways of harvesting water [that they didn’t utilise]. If they had used their God-given intellect, these people could have been saved from huge destruction.

“Some blame the West for everything that ‘the West did not do this or that’ – okay – but [the people of Pakistan] bear responsibility too.”

Huzooraa said developing nations like India and China questioned why they should reduce carbon emissions as they were developing their industries, whereas the West had already established itself (while also producing carbon emissions). Huzooraa

said developed nations called on developing countries to reduce carbon emissions; however, in reality, rich or Western nations were not ready to reduce their own carbon emissions. This was wrong, Huzooraa said, and the West and rich nations should reduce emissions too. The wars currently taking place were adding to carbon emissions and climate change, Huzooraa said.

Changing the political landscape was not possible as countries were invested in their own interests, however, every Ahmadi could take steps to reduce their carbon emissions, Huzooraa said.

“We are only a small community and in

this small community, whatever you can do [to reduce climate emissions] you should.

Maybe, by looking at your examples, others will follow and this may slowly cascade further and people begin to be influenced by you and the whole country begins to realise this and pay attention to it.

“So, in every country, we can only exert small efforts. Then inform the people of the country, because the population of that country will bring real change. [...]”

At the end of the meeting, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih conveyed his salaam and the meeting ended.

Majlis Ansarullah Switzerland feel ‘motivated and spiritually charged’ after virtual mulaqat with Huzoor Malik Arif Mahmood Sadr Majlis Ansarullah Switzerland

On 13 November 2022, 107 members of Majlis Ansarullah Switzerland had the honour of a virtual meeting with Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa, in the adjacent hall of Noor Mosque.

On the request of my humble self during an official meeting, Huzooraa graciously granted approval for a virtual meeting with Majlis Ansarullah Switzerland.

During the meeting, ansar brothers who had never met Huzooraa, or met him a long time ago and the aseeran-e-rah-maula were seated in the first three rows.

The meeting with our beloved Huzooraa is living proof of Allah’s blessings. No matter how much we thank God Almighty for this blessing, it will not be enough. After praising Allah the Almighty, the members were extremely grateful to Huzooraa as he spared some of his valuable time and accepted the request of his humble servants for a virtual meeting, alhamdulillah.

Following the approval of our virtual meeting, my humble self, as the president of majlis, devised a programme. Our beloved Huzooraa bestowed his love and kindness upon us. May Allah the Almighty help us to follow all the guidance given by Huzooraa, and may He enable us to always serve as the sultan-e-naseer of Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa.

The feedback from some of the participants is as follows: Dr Mubashir Ahmed Sheikh Sahib, Qaid Tajnid expressed: “It was my sincere pleasure and honour to have this opportunity to meet our beloved Huzooraa virtually, along with all the ansar brothers of Switzerland. This event was the first of its kind in the history of the Switzerland Jamaat where all ansar brothers were invited to participate in a virtual mulaqat with our beloved Huzooraa.

“Meeting Huzooraa albeit virtually, was an extraordinary feeling that cannot be truly captured in words. To be in the presence

of Huzooraa, was a feeling of blessing and satisfaction beyond expression. Meeting Huzooraa revived the spirit to go beyond and above to further the message of our Jamaat to the world in the hope of seeking Allah’s pleasure.”

Mian Nasir Sahib, Qaid Tahrik-e-Jadid said: “Alhamdulillah, we had a virtual mulaqat with our beloved Huzooraa. It was a very emotional moment. I had the opportunity to ask Huzooraa a question. He responded with a lot of kindness and helped me understand the answer. My feelings can’t find the right words, but it was an incredible experience.”

Naeem Ullah Sahib, Qaid Umumi expressed: “It was a spiritual experience and the joy I felt is hard to put into words. Several ansar brothers asked questions, which Huzooraa answered and enlightened us. We all felt very happy and grateful that our beloved Huzooraa gave us his valuable time.”

Rafiu Idris Sahib, Naib Sadr Awwal expressed: “The ambience, the heavenly calm, and the whole spiritual atmosphere during the meeting was magnificent. I can’t possibly

put the feelings into words. It was really surreal to participate in yet another mulaqat and I count myself lucky to be able to attend this blessed gathering in person and benefit from Huzooraa wealth of knowledge which he distributed to us in abundance today.”

Basharat Ahmed Anees Sahib, Qaid Ishaat said: “It was a special day for all members of Majlis Ansarullah Switzerland. There was a common sentiment of happiness among all the ansar brothers. Huzooraa gave his precious time to us and answered several questions. We all felt motivated and spiritually charged. I feel blessed to have the pleasure of speaking to our beloved Huzooraa while asking him questions.

Huzooraa replied with great insight and gave answers that enlightened our minds and hearts.”

Abdul Allah Khan Sahib said: “I had the pleasure of meeting Huzooraa online, and I don’t have words to express my sentiments. However, alhamdulillah, I am grateful that I was given the privilege to sit in the front rows since I was meeting Huzooraa for the first time. I felt lucky to be in the audience.”

18 November 2016: During his Friday Sermon on this day, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa mentioned God Almighty’s blessings, which He had showered during Huzoor’s tour of Canada. Huzooraa said that the message of Islam Ahmadiyyat was conveyed to more than 60 million people through media coverage.

18-19 November 18 November 2005: During his Friday Sermon on this day, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa shed light on the Islamic teaching in regard to trust (amanat) and mutual dealings and called the attention of all Ahmadis to exhibit high morals in their business dealings, since it was also a silent mode of tabligh.

18 November 2011: During his Friday Sermon on this day, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa presented clarification to a hadith he had narrated in his

last Friday Sermon about the Holy Prophet’ssa combining of prayers during a battle. Huzooraa then instructed that Jamaat’s departments and organs should carry out thorough research before publishing any references to narrations or ahadith. He said, correct references should be used and it should always be checked if the Promised Messiahas had said anything on the matter. It was understood that no one would edit the words of the Khalifa of the time, who should be personally consulted on the matter. Moreover, even if the citation of a reference by earlier khulafa was found to not

During the 45-minute meeting, Huzooraa and the mayor discussed various issues, including the establishment of world peace, the true peaceful teachings of Islam, the efforts of Jamaat-eAhmadiyya in fighting extremism and the persecution faced by the Jamaat in certain countries.

20-21 November 20 November 2015: Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa inaugurated the Baitul Ahad Mosque in Nagoya, Japan. It is the first Ahmadi mosque in the country and it can accommodate up to

800 worshippers. Huzooraa praised the financial sacrifices of the local Ahmadis for the mosque’s construction and also praised the local non-Muslim community for their support and kindness.

21 November 2008: During his Friday Sermon on this day, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa mentioned Bashir Ahmad Mahaar Sahib, a darwesh of Qadian, who passed away on 13 November.

Huzooraa also mentioned Ghazanfar Chattha Sahib, inspector Bait-ul-Maal, who had been martyred on 18 November, during his official visit to Burewala jamaat in Punjab, Pakistan.

21 November 2014: During his Friday Sermon on this day, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa mentioned three Darweshan-e-Qadian, who had recently passed away. They were Ghulam Qadir Sahib, Mirza Muhammad Iqbal Sahib, and Chaudhry Manzur Ahmad Cheema Sahib.

Huzooraa instructed members of the Jamaat to remember the Darweshan-e-Qadian and their progeny, who had offered great sacrifices for the Jamaat, in prayers.

22-24 November 22 November 2013: During his Friday Sermon on this day, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa mentioned Dr Bashiruddin Usama Sahib of America, who had passed away on 2 November at the age of 82. He accepted Ahmadiyyat in 1955 and had the opportunity to visit Rabwah and meet Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra.

He was serving as the Naib Sadr of Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Cleveland, Ohio, USA. 23 November 2013: Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa delivered the keynote address at an event held by the Pan-African Ahmadiyya Muslim Association to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the independence of Algeria, Burundi, Malawi, Rwanda and Uganda. Dignitaries and guests representing a number of African countries attended the function at the Baitul Futuh Mosque, Morden, UK. During his address, Huzooraa appealed for the true independence of all nations and called for all nations to be granted self-determination. Huzooraa spoke of Africa’s rich potential and said it could only be realised if its people became united and put aside all personal interests.

More than 60 guests attended the reception, during which Huzooraa reflected on the consequences of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, and described them as “attacks that shamed humanity”.

24 November 2006: During his Friday Sermon on this day, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa shed light on Allah the Almighty’s attribute of Rabb-ul-’Alamin, and stated that the Muslims had tried to limit this attribute of Allah by rejecting the Imam of the current Age.

Hurricane Ian: Ahmadi youth spend hundreds of hours providing relief to locals in Florida, US Raheel Tauyyab Mohtamim Khidmat-e-Khalq, MKA USA

On 28 September 2022 Hurricane Ian made landfall on the western coast of the state of Florida with sustained winds of 155 mph.

The initial estimate of the damage caused is well over USD 50 billion. The storm has taken the lives of at least 157 people with at least 130 people losing their lives in Florida alone, making it the deadliest hurricane in the state since 1935.

Around 11 pm on 27 October 2022, a group of 11 members of Majlis Khuddam-ulAhmadiyya USA arrived in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, from Chicago, Illinois, to assist with the humanitarian and disaster relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Ian. On 28 to 30 October 2022, a team of 22 khuddam participated in the clean-up efforts following Hurricane Ian. Dr Safeer Bhatti Sahib served as our local coordinator from Humanity First and Sadr Jamaat Miami, Manawar Chaudhry Sahib, helped with local accommodations, among other things.

This was the second set of khuddam volunteers that visited the areas to assist; while the first group was sent for immediate humanitarian assistance, this group focused on restoring the communities hit the hardest.

Khuddam set out from Baitul Naseer Mosque in Ft. Lauderdale on 28 October and drove two and a half hours to Ft Myers, where the hurricane made landfall. They offered Jumuah prayer at the home of a local khadim, Bilal Hafeez Sahib, who had offered his home for the group to stay at for the weekend.

12 khuddam then departed for Pine Island and Matlacha, two islands where the storm was particularly violent. They assisted with four homes for approximately four hours. The first house was that of an elderly man who was 89 years old. His home required that broken roof tiles be removed and debris around his house be cleaned up.

After helping, the man was incredibly grateful for our humble efforts and praised that such groups existed to help those in need. He introduced us to others in the community, with whom we shared our contacts and offered assistance as well. We assisted one of the man’s neighbours, who needed help with some external clean-up, including broken glass and other debris; the owner was similarly very appreciative.

Down the road, we assisted an older lady with the removal of some heavy items inside her home and completely cleaned the outside of her house. She was very impressed at both how quickly we responded to her request online and how quickly we were able to get all of the work done; we were able to complete the tasks that would have taken her all day in just over an hour. This lady was very appreciative of our help, she mentioned that she had no family to assist her and was suffering from some ailments that made it difficult for her to work for long. She said

that our services were a huge blessing for her.

We similarly helped her neighbour, who was an elderly man. Although he was sad to see he had to throw away so much of his damaged belongings, he was very happy we were able to help him through the process.

Around sunset, khuddam went back to the place of stay, and the next day, a group from the Miami jamaat drove two and a half hours to Ft. Myers. The group consisted of nine additional khuddam along with some other members. Both groups met up and set up a temporary food distribution centre on Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., a popular street in Ft. Myers.

For about an hour, khuddam gave out food and water to locals who were in the area. Those receiving items were very appreciative of the efforts of the team. One man who was just passing said that we were doing amazing work and that he was very thankful for all of us. We met him again inside a local store and he approached us to again show his gratitude for helping an area that has historically been very poor.

After the food distribution, the team offered Zuhr and Asr prayers in a local park and then ate lunch.

Afterwards, the team of 22 khuddam and a few others headed to Fort Myers Beach, an area by the coast which was hit the hardest.

Here, we offered our assistance to the entire neighbourhood taking, on various tasks.

One of the neighbours, named Chris, had two young children who were living in horrible conditions due to flooding that had destroyed their home. The family was afraid of doing some of the heavy work because it would be difficult to do with the children.

Seven of our khuddam were able to remove the entirety of his drywall, which was damaged due to flood water entering. Chris was very happy with the work the khuddam did and requested that we come back next week if time permitted. We sent another team the following week.

helped with cleaning out her home; she also expressed her sincere gratitude. At the same time, a group split off to help out in a mobile home community about two miles away. This group also offered assistance to the community, although not much was needed.

A few khuddam noticed an elderly lady in the neighbouring mobile home community trying to remove her roof by herself. We drove over to this lady and noticed she had cut herself trying to pull off the sagging metal roof. After offering medical assistance, khuddam assisted her in removing the broken roof and helped with the interior of her home. The homeowner expressed her gratitude for the work completed.

Down the street, another woman was assisted with completely removing the interior of her home. The work completed in her home would have taken days, however, a group of just eight khuddam were able to complete the home in just a few hours. The lady was thankful that all this work was able to be done in such a short time. She thanked the team profusely for assisting her in what seemed like an unimaginable task at the beginning.

Another team simultaneously went to the homes on the coast, about five miles away, to assist with removing the interior of that home. Those who were assisted would

often ask if we would be able to help their neighbours as well. Although we weren’t able to help one of these neighbours, because the task required special equipment, the neighbour expressed her amazement that we were offering such services and that we were travelling so far to assist with the cleanup effort. She thanked us for everything we were doing and praised the work of the khuddam.

Before sunset, all 22 khuddam departed for another local khadim’s home to offer Maghrib and Isha prayers and to have dinner. The group from Miami jamaat returned home later that evening. The remaining 12 khuddam continued to work the following day on the homes that were started on Saturday. Some work remained in these homes to be completed and we provided our contact details so that we could coordinate any future help for them.

Another team of khuddam would arrive the following week and assist these homes further. Every home that we visited, received us very well, whether we ended up assisting the homeowner or not.

Khuddam were able to assist about 9 homes with major clean-up and repairs.

In total, 22 khuddam participated in these efforts across the three days. The total number of hours contributed by khuddam was about 252. There were well over 100 people assisted during the weekend.

100 Years Ago...

A special correspondent of the ‘West Africa’ writes about Ahmadiyyat Al Fazl, 2 October 1922

A detailed article about the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat has been published in the 3 June 1922 issue of the West Africa by its special correspondent. After reading this piece of writing, it becomes clear that the foreign newspapers even mention those matters with great clarity and openmindedness that are against their religion.

Moreover, they work very hard and make every effort to find out new things and publish them.

The aforementioned newspaper, under the title “The Ahmadia Movement in India, West Africa, and London”, writes: “The Ahmadia movement in the Mohammedan religion is making steady progress in London, and, indeed, England.

This may be a surprising statement to some people outside this faith, but they might be surprised to learn that the British Empire holds sway over the largest number of Mohammedans [sic] in the world. The British Empire is, in fact, the greatest Mohammedan power the world has known.”

Then, writing about the celebrations of Eid-ul-Fitr, the special correspondent of the West Africa mentions the Eid prayer and sermon at the Ahmadiyya London Mosque as follows: “On Sunday last, the day following the close of Ramadan, a festival was held at the Mosque, Melrose Road, Southfields, the centre of the movement in the metropolis.

At present, the mosque is a private house, but the house and land at the back have been bought, and, or a site already chosen, a real mosque will be erected within the next year or two, at a cost of £15,000, to accommodate 300 worshippers. The mosque will be of the usual design, but the material will be

suitable for the English climate.

“Mr Mubarak Ali MA and Mr FM Sayal MA are the missionaries in charge of the movement at Southfields, which has about 100 members, and, following the month of fasting, congregational praise was offered in the garden of the mosque. Mohammedans and non-Mohammedans were invited. The Oriental rugs spread on the turf for the worshippers, who, for the most part, varied their European attire with the fez or the turban, seemed to bring the East near for the moment.

“Mr Mubarak Ali took the short service, which was attended by men and women from India, Persia, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Turkey, West Africa, East Africa and Russia.

The Ambassador of Turkey (Reshaid Pasha) and the Afghan Minister (Sirdar Abdul Hadi Khan), among others, were expected.

“In a sermon, Mr Mubarak Ali reminded his hearers of what the last of the great [law-bearing] prophets of the world, Mohammed[sa] of Arabia, had laid down for Islam; that the festival observed by the Moslem at the end of the lunar month which began this year on 28 April [1922] and ended the previous day, was for selfdiscipline and [cleansing] reasons. During the month of fasting, Moslems were strictly enjoined to lead a good life. The object of this was to prove to a man that if he could practise and lead a good life for one month, he could lead a good life for the rest of the year.

“Mr Mubarak Ali stated that this movement was destined to be the salvation of India in the near future, for it was welding the Hindu and the Moslem neighbours for a thousand years who had never really come

together before. Ahmad’s message had a deep significance for India and the world.

The highest ideal for India was not political freedom. Ahmad’s was a spiritual message.

India was the epitome of the world, and it was not for nothing that so many races and communities met there. Islam had received a great impetus from the Ahmadia movement.”

After explaining the meaning and significance of the Eid-ul-Fitr sermon of Maulvi Mubarak Ali Sahib BA BT and briefly describing the history of the Jamaat, the writer states: “Some explanation of the origin and strength of the movement, which is spreading all over the world, will not be out of place here. Its founder was Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad[as], who, as the Promised Messiah, died in 1908. The movement began in the Punjab, Ahmad[as] lived as an unassuming man, with about 400,000 followers, chiefly in India’s north-western parts. Today, there are probably 500,000 members in the movement, but the number is steadily growing. Ahmad’s first successor was Hazrat Maulvi Nur-ud-Din. He died in 1914.”

Along the same lines, while mentioning Hazrat Khalifatul Masih II[ra], the picture he draws of his blessed countenance and attributes is, apart from being very captivating, so true to reality that if someone from Europe takes this into consideration and comes in the assembly of Huzoor[ra], they will immediately recognise him without the need of someone introducing him to them.

We cannot but acknowledge the excellence of the writer that he has probably drawn such a true and accurate picture of the

portrait of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih II[ra] and his attributes, which have so far been very rarely published in the English language, that it seems he had the opportunity to sit in the company of Huzoor[ra] and was writing while sitting in front of him.

It is possible for someone to think about this article that it must have been written by an Ahmadi who got it published [in the newspaper], but two or three things are found in it that dispel this suspicion. First of all, the newspaper has declared the writer of the article as its special correspondent and it cannot be that someone sends an article and the newspaper considers them its special correspondent.

Secondly, referring to Hazrat Khalifatul Masih II[ra], the writer has mentioned him as the “Promised Messiah”. Maulvi Mubarak Ali Sahib has drawn the attention of the newspaper toward this [mistake] and following his letter, the newspaper has published a correction. This kind of mistake can never be present in the article of an Ahmadi.

Thirdly, it is written in the article that, “[…] West Africa, from where, it is understood, the [Ahmadiyya] movement arrived here [in London]”, but this is not true. Our London Mission was established before the mission in West Africa because Maulvi Abdur Rahimra was sent from London to West Africa. He went there and established a regular mission to spread the message [of the Promised Messiahas], so it can be said that this mission reached West Africa from London.

The aforementioned mistakes are insignificant, but it is possible for a nonAhmadi or a non-Muslim to commit them.

However, it is impossible for an Ahmadi to commit such mistakes.

Hence, the above evidence is enough to remove this suspicion that the article might have been written by an Ahmadi. In the given circumstances, not acknowledging the excellence of the writer would be unfair.

Hopefully, the audience will agree with us completely after reading the following words of the newspaper regarding Hazrat Khalifatul Masih II[ra]: “Today, Hazrat Mirza Besheer-udDin Mahmud Ahmad[ra] is the Promised Messiah [sic] and head of the Ahmadiyya community.

[As mentioned above, Hazrat Maulvi Mubarak Ali Sahib wrote to the newspaper and pointed out that Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IIra was not the Promised Messiah and thus a correction was published following his letter.]

Religious cohesion requires respecting each other as God is the Lord of all: Hazrat Musleh-e-Maud’s lecture at the Killarney Hotel, Karachi, during his visit to Sindh, 1936

In 1936, Hazrat Musleh-e-Maud, Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmud Ahmadra, visited various places in Sindh, including Karachi.

It was his first visit to Karachi, which he reached on 16 February 1936. (Tarikh-eAhmadiyyat Karachi, Vol. 1, p. 63) Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Karachi organised a reception in Huzoor’s honour, at the Killarney Hotel on 17 February. The event was attended by many local Muslims, Hindus and Christians, and various dignitaries, including the then Mayor of Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) Qazi Khuda Bakhsh, Additional Judicial Commissioner Mr Haveliwala, Mr DP Dastur, Mr Tikamdas Wadhumal former Mayor of KMC, Dr Saeed, Mr and Mrs Hatim A Alvi, Mr Hatim Tyabji barristerat-law, Mr Muhammad Aslam barrister-atlaw, famous entrepreneur Seth Shivratan Mohatta, honourary magistrate Sirdar Pratap Singh Sethi, president of the local Mahasabha Dr Hingorani, president of the local Arya Samaj Mr Ram Sahai, editor of the Daily Gazette Mr David, and editor of The Sind Observer.

During his address, Hazrat Muslehe-Maudra said he wished to advise the people of the Sindh Division in general and Karachi in particular. Huzoorra said the

phenomenon of dissent and diversity could not completely disappear from this world, whether it was religious, social, academic or economic. For instance, Huzoorra said, it was a fact that even the children of the same father differed in their physical appearance – with some exceptions – in the same way, it was impossible to see complete affinity between the natures of all people of the world and the elimination of disagreements altogether.

However, mankind needed to realise that they had been created by One God, and if they realised this, then nothing could halt them from harbouring mutual harmony and amity, despite having religious or social disagreements. As the spiritual progeny of the One God, mankind was required to treat each other with love, affection and brotherhood.

Huzoorra continued by saying that undoubtedly, all religions were from God Almighty, as far as their teachings were concerned. However, their followers distorted those teachings to such an extent that one found a stark difference between the original teachings of those religions and the actions of their followers.

Huzoorra said people might have disagreements with the beliefs of others, however, it was utterly wrong to initiate hostilities due to those disagreements.

Huzoorra narrated an incident from the

life of the Holy Prophetsa, when he permitted a Christian delegation from Najran to perform their worship in his mosque: “By exhibiting such an example of morality [...] the Holy Prophetsa has taught us a highly precious lesson, that we should never abandon mutual tolerance due to our religious disagreements.

“Keeping in mind this incident – while laying the foundation of the London Mosque [Fazl Mosque] in 1924 – I had announced that if a person belonging to any religion or community wished to perform their respective worship in that mosque, they would be allowed to do so, provided they abided by the mosque’s sanctity.

“I recall that when I made this announcement, the European [guests] were astonished and expressed that ‘we had thought that the Muslims only thought about killing others, however, you have presented such a [peaceful] teaching.’ [...]

“One of the many favours of the Ahmadiyya Community’s founder [Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmadas] is that he presented a very beautiful pathway to create peace amongst various sects and communities.

In many of his books and speeches, he mentioned the Quranic verse:

َ َّ َ ُ َ ‫َو ِا ۡن ِّم ۡن ا ّم ٍۃ ِالا خلَا فِ ۡی َہا ن ِذیۡ ٌر‬

“‘And there is no people to whom a Warner has not been sent.’ [Surah Fatir,

Ch.35: V.25] “In light of this teaching, he would always say he believed in the prophets of Hindus and Christians as well, since it was proof of the Holy Quran’s truthfulness.

“If we declare this teaching of the Holy Quran as our fundamental [belief], which has been emphasised by the founder of the Ahmadiyya Community, then half of our disputes would cease to exist.” (Al Fazl, 26 February 1936, p. 4) Huzoorra continued by saying that since God was Rabb-ul-‘Alamin (Lord of all worlds), He was the Lord and Provider of the followers of all religions, whether Hindus, Muslims, Jews or Christians: “Therefore, we should respect and honour the holy personages of each other, since this would ensure our own holy personages are respected and honoured as well.” (Ibid) Huzoorra said the people of Sindh Division – despite their religious disagreements – were required to foster healthy relations from social, academic and economic perspectives. They needed to realise they were all the servants and the creation of the One God: “You would very soon be allocated a separate province. Thus, you are required to set an example of mutual harmony and unity, and to show the world that even a newly formed province can lead the way for already existing provinces.” (Al Fazl, 20 February 1936, p. 2) Huzoorra further said: “In some instances, the younger brothers become the beacon for their elder brothers, in the same way, I advise you to raise the level of your academic, economic and social harmony so much so that this small [future] province turns into the most impactful one, and set an example for the other [provinces].” (Al Fazl, 26 February 1936, p. 4) Six weeks later, on 1 April 1936, the Sindh Division was separated from the Bombay Presidency, becoming a new province within British India.

Huzoorra said that the Promised Messiahas had emphasised the Quranic teaching “And there is no people to whom a Warner has not been sent”, and always advocated religious harmony, however, his opponents raised false allegations that he had dishonoured the prophets. However, it is known that the people did not value a prophet’s teachings during his lifetime.

However, after a certain time, the progeny of those opponents were able to realise the mistake of their elders and testified to

AL HAKAM | Friday 18 November 2022 the fact that their elders had rejected the teaching, which was the only pathway for their betterment and salvation.

Huzoorra said that in order to achieve true success, one had to endure suffering and hardships, and thus, the founder of the Ahmadiyya Community and his followers had to face severe opposition and afflictions.

Huzoorra continued: “I agree that disagreements can never cease to exist altogether, however, I have never expressed hate towards any Hindu, Sikh or Christian. [...] Currently, my age is 47 years, and there has not been a single moment when my heart had a sentiment of animosity towards anyone. [...]

“Therefore, I wish to advise the people of Sindh that they should respect each other, despite their religious disagreements. [...]

“Though one should always dislike vices, it is unfair to hate the people who indulge in them. If it is necessary to sympathise with a physically ill person, then spiritually ailing people require even more care. […]

“Our Allah – Who is the Master of all the worlds – declares Himself to be the Lord of all the peoples, thus, there is no reason for us to hate any of them. If we [wish to] follow the pathway taught by Our Lord, then we are obliged to respect other people.” (Ibid) During the same tour, on 19 February 1936, Mr Hatim Badruddin Tyabji – a prominent jurist of the Indian subcontinent – invited Huzoorra to a tea party at his home, at which local dignitaries were also present. At the request of the host, Huzoorra delivered a speech as well.

During his speech, Huzoorra emphasised that Muslims needed to study the attributes of Allah mentioned in the Holy Quran and make an effort to instil those attributes within themselves. (Al Fazl, 25 February 1936, p. 1) Two years later, during his speech at the Jalsa Seeratun Nabisa on 11 December 1938, Hazrat Musleh-e-Maudra recalled the abovementioned tour of Karachi and said: “During my visit to Karachi around two years ago, one day there was a breeze coming from Arabia, which moved my heart so much that I commented that ‘this breeze is coming from that place where the Holy Prophetsa had resided’. Then, I got occupied with these imaginations, and I said a few couplets spontaneously, which I immediately wrote down. In those couplets, I expressed my feelings in very simple words, without involving any poetic self-praise.

After that, I got occupied with my routine work and could not add more couplets.

Anyway, when the breeze came, I said: ‫ںیئ‬

‫دنمسر ےس ی‬ �‫وہا� ٓاریہ ںیہ ی‬ �‫رِمے دل وک تہب رگام ریہ ںیہ ی‬

“‘[My heart is being invigorated by the breezes from the sea, for they carry the fragrance of Arabia, my Beloved’s home and bring glad tidings to all, as they blow here and there.]’” (Review of Religions [Urdu], June 1939, pp. 4-5) These couplets exhibit Hazrat Muslehe-Maud’sra deep love for the Holy Prophetsa.

Nasirat-ul-Ahmadiyya Ireland hold first National Ijtema following Covid-19 restrictions Tayyaba Mashood Sadr Lajna Imaillah Ireland

Nasirat-ul-Ahmadiyya Ireland held their 13th annual Ijtema on 31 October 2022 at the Maryam Mosque, Galway. The Ijtema was attended by members from all over Ireland.

The Ijtema proceedings began with the recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the Nasirat pledge and a poem. After this, a report of the previous year’s Nasiratul-Ahmadiyya activities was read out by secretary Nasirat-ul-Ahmadiyya Ireland.

The nasirat were then separated into their respective age groups as various academic and sports competitions commenced.

Several presentations were presented for nasirat on the topics of “How we can instil the love of Khilafat in our hearts” and “How to write a letter to Hazrat Khalifatul Masihaa”. A letter template was distributed

“What is he [Hazrat Khalifatul Masih IIra] like, then, the high priest of truth and piety, who represents the Ahmadia movement today?

“In a small peaceful town, increased from a small village, owing to the prosperity of the movement, some 11 miles northeast of Batala, Punjab, lives the social and religious reformer. The road to Qadian is always crowded with pilgrims, who come to pay homage from all parts of the globe.

What Jerusalem is to a Christian or Benares to a Hindu, that or more is Qadian to an Ahmadi.

“Imagine the head of the movement seated on a small patch of carpet. He is in a neat and simple dress. His head is bent down, his eyes are half closed. He lifts up a majestic head. You see a face, half pleasant, half prophet-like [i.e. awe-inspiring].

Sympathy thrills in his voice. His manner is meek. Yet he is wise. That is the leader of the movement, distinguished by its discipline and organization.”

Under the awe of the countenance of Hazrat Khalifatul Masih II[ra], the writer’s attention is drawn towards the Islamic concept of brotherhood and equality.

Consequently, the special correspondent mentions it and writes: “The word Islam means a pure, divine and intelligent existence. In Islam, no church has ever had seats reserved for anybody. If an African or a European entered first, and took the front seat, the Sultan, if he happened to follow, would

to the nasirat to guide them when writing a letter to Huzooraa.

Some other activities were organised, such as an art and craft class as well as a cooking class. Nasirat also had the opportunity to participate in an interactive discussion on the subject of “Good habits”.

An art and craft exhibition was also held, highlighting the craftwork of nasirat throughout the year.

The nasirat thoroughly enjoyed the day’s proceedings and also the opportunity to meet other nasirat from different regions, thereby creating new friendships. Taking part in the various competitions helped to increase the knowledge, spirituality and confidence of the nasirat and also served to bring them ever closer to this blessed Jamaat.

A mothers’ meeting also took place with my humble self, where they had the

opportunity to discuss various matters related to nasirat activities, talim and tarbiyat strategy.

During the concluding session, my humble self addressed the attendees and spoke about the importance of offering salat on time and reciting the Holy Quran regularly. I also encouraged the nasirat to continue regular attendance of Quran classes and to listen to Huzoor’s Friday Sermon regularly.

This was the first in-person gathering of nasirat nationally since the Covid-19 pandemic began. Therefore, for some young nasirat and those under 7, this was their firstever Ijtema. The total attendance of nasirat was over 90%. The feedback from both nasirat and mothers was very positive, and many expressed how much they enjoyed, learned and appreciated all the activities and aspects of this year’s Ijtema.

‘I tread under the feet the racial prejudice’, said the Prophet Mohammed[sa]. Arabic is the common language of all Moslems, and Moslem is not the name of a particular exclusive nationality. He belongs to no one country, and he knows no distinctions of colour.”

Encouraged to get factual information about the Ahmadiyya Jamaat, the writer states: “While a great deal of misconception exists regarding the Ahmadia movement in Islam – chiefly among those who will not trouble to understand it, though a wellknown writer the other day dragged in Islam when considering the fate of Turkey – there is nothing concerning it that cannot be grasped.”

Mentioning the characteristics of the Jamaat, the author says: “It is of supreme importance, however, to appreciate that Ahmadia is a purely religious movement, having nothing to do with politics. Its adherents do not eat pork or drink wine, and they follow the religious observances imposed by the Master Prophet, Mohammed[sa].”

Regarding the advancement of Islam Ahmadiyyat, the writer says: “Its headquarters are in Qadian, Punjab, and there are branches all over India, Burma, Ceylon, China, Australia, Mesopotamia, Persia, Arabia, Egypt, East Africa, Mauritius, West Africa, England and the United States.

“In West Africa, from where it is understood, the movement arrived here [in London], the branch is at Saltpond, with Professor AR Nayyar Phil B, as a missionary;

in Lagos, at 62, Bangabose Street; and in Sierra Leone. [As mentioned before, Ahmadiyyat reached West Africa from London and not the other way around.]

“During the last 12 months, 16000 people in West Africa have joined the movement. It is one of the articles of faith that members of Ahmadia should obey the laws of the country in which they live.”

[It is further stated: [“The last-named fact explains much concerning the welding of Hindus and Moslemm in India under Ahmadia – and the ideals of the movement – that the Mohammedans of India, before [Hazrat Mirza Ghulam] Ahmad[as], did not recognize the prophets of the Hindus. Ahmad[as] taught them differently. This paved the way for the unity of Hindus and Mohammedans on a spiritual basis, and led to the extension of the movement to Britain. All the followers of Ahmadia devoutly believe in the prophecy of Ahmad[as] that Islam will spread to all parts of the world and eventually become the predominant religion. The important thing is that the Ahmadia movement in Islam teaches the highest ideals – peace, submission to God. Islam is the name of the religion of Mohammedans, who do not regard Mohammed[sa] as a god, but as a man, a prophet. Nor do they call themselves Mohammedans, but Moslems.”]

“No knowledge have we except what Thou hast taught us.” (Surah al-Baqarah, Ch.2: V.33) The realisation that all knowledge is bestowed by God Almighty – that being the real knowledge – must lead one inevitably to supplicate to Him always. Allah, the Answerer of Prayers, most graciously taught the believers to supplicate in the following words:

ً ْ َ ُ ‫ق ْل ّر ِّب زِ ْدنِ ْی ِعل َﻤا‬

“Say, ‘O my Lord, increase me in knowledge.’” (Surah TaHa, Ch.20: V.115) Similarly, a prayer taught by the Holy Prophetsa should also be remembered: ً َْ ّ َ ْ َ ْ َّ َ َ ْ ْ َ ْ َّ ُ ّ ٰ َ َ ‫و�ﻠِ ْﻤ ِﻨ ْﻰ َﻣﺎ ﻳ َ ْﻨﻔ ُﻌ ِﻨ ْﻰ َو ِز ْدﻧِ ْﻰ �ِ ﻠﻤﺎ‬ ‫ا���ﻢ اﻧﻔﻌ ِﻨﻰ ﺑِﻤﺎ�ﻠﻤﺘ ِﻨﻰ‬

ۡ َ َ ّٰ َ ‫ال َﺻ َﺪ ُقوۡا َما َع‬ ٌ ‫ِم َن ال ۡ ُﻤ ۡﺆ ِم ِﻨی ۡ َ� رِ َﺟ‬ ‫اہ ُﺪوا الل َہ َعل ۡی ِہ � ف ِﻤﻨ ُہ ۡﻢ‬ ً‫َّم ۡن َق ٰﻀی ن َ ۡح َب ٗہ َوم ۡﻨ ُہ ۡﻢ َّم ۡن ّیَ ۡﻨ َت� ُ� � َو َما بَ َّﺪلُوۡا ﺗَ ۡبﺪیۡلا‬ ِ ِ ِ “Among the believers are men who have been true to the covenant they had made with Allah. There are some among them who have fulfilled their vow, and there are others among them who [still] wait, and they have not changed [their condition] in the least.” (Surah al-Ahzab, Ch.33: V.24) This simple, easy, brief, two-worded topic – “knowledge and action” – comprises extraordinarily vast and comprehensive meanings and philosophy.

All our efforts, religious or worldly, throughout our lives appear to revolve around the axes of these two orbits; knowledge and practice. If knowledge is like a seed, action is its fruit. Without knowledge, neither the demands of religion nor those of the world can be fulfilled. On the other hand, without practice and action, one cannot achieve anything in the field of religion or that of the world. The right action is inconceivable without knowledge and knowledge without appropriate action is useless. The sole object of knowledge is for one to follow a course of action in the light of that knowledge and ultimately achieve one’s goal with the blessing of sound knowledge and appropriate good deeds.

Thus, knowledge and practice are inseparably connected; these are two wheels of the same cart without which life cannot move on. They must be mutually balanced and synchronised. Knowledge and action are indeed the two essences of our lives, the central point and standard of our success and prosperity that guarantee our survival and progress. These two words are the secret of our exoneration and happiness. It can be

stated with confidence that these two words describe the motto and ideal of an Ahmadi.

According to lexicologists, ’ilm means to know the minute particulars of something.

The Promised Messiahas stated: “’Ilm according to the terminology of the Holy Quran, refers to definite knowledge.”

(Barahin-e-Ahmadiyya [English], Part III, p.

231) He added that real knowledge is that which Allah Almighty grants out of His grace. That knowledge leads to God’s realisation and creates fear of Allah, as stated in the Holy Quran:

َ ۡ ّٰ َ ۡ َّ ‫ِان َﻤا یَﺨﺸی الل َہ ِم ۡن ِع َبا ِد ِه ال ُعل �ﻤ ُﺆا‬

“Only those of His servants who possess knowledge fear Allah. (Surah Fatir, Ch.35: V.29) The Promised Messiahas said, “If knowledge does not increase fear of Allah, then it is not a means to increase God’s realisation”. (Malfuzat, Vol. 5, p. 11) A study of the Quran shows that the greatest beneficence Allah conferred on man, after his creation, is knowledge, by which he attains the skill of expression.

َ ‫ان َع َّل َﻤ ُہ ال ْ َب َی‬ َ ‫َخ َل َﻖ الْاِن ْ َﺴ‬ ‫ان‬

“Allah has created man; He has taught him the skill of expression.” (Surah arRahman, Ch.55: V.5)

َ َ َ ‫َع َّل َﻢ الْاِن ْ َﺴ‬ ‫ان َما ل َ ْﻢ � ْعل ْﻢ‬

“He taught man what he knew not.

(Surah al-’Alaq, Ch.96: V.6) The blessing of knowledge is primarily granted to prophets of Allah so they may become teachers of their people.

The acquisition of knowledge is strongly enjoined in the ahadith: َ ّٰ َ َ َ َُ ْ ْ َ َ َ َ َ ْ َ �‫ﻴﻞ ا�� ِ� َﺣ ّﺘﻰ ﻳ َ ْﺮ ِﺟ‬ ِ ‫ﻣﻦ ﺧﺮج �ِ� ﻃﻠ ِﺐ اﻟ ِﻌﻠ ِﻢ ﻓﻬﻮ �ِ� ﺳ ِﺒ‬ “He who goes forth in search of

knowledge is considered to be struggling in the Cause of Allah until he returns.”

(Tirmidhi) ُّ ٰ ٌ َ َ ْ ْ َ َ ‫ﻃﻠ ُﺐ اﻟ ِﻌﻠ ِﻢ ﻓ ِﺮﻳﻀﺔ َ�ﻠﻰ � ِﻞ ُﻣ ْﺴﻠِ ٍﻢ‬ “Acquiring knowledge is obligatory for all Muslims.” (Sunan Ibn Majah) According to the ahadith, knowledge is of two types; the science of bodies and the science of religions. Knowledge of religions has superiority over all other sciences because the blessing of religious knowledge makes for a good life in this world as well as in the hereafter, whereas the effect of secular knowledge is limited to affairs of this material world only.

The Holy Quran has made it clear that those who do not know are not on par with those who do. The superiority of a learned person is an accepted reality. Knowledge is a power that begets bravery. Real knowledge creates humility in man that raises his ranks, and exonerates him, in the hereafter. The Promised Messiahas has stated: “Knowledge and wisdom are a treasure that is superior to all riches. All material wealth is perishable, however, knowledge and wisdom do not perish”. (Malfuzat [Urdu], Vol. 7, p. 209) It must be clear that all knowledge is attributable to God Almighty as He, being the Knower of the Unseen, is the Source and Fountainhead of real knowledge. All the learned and the knowledgeable drink from that pure fountain and believe they did not attain their knowledge; it was bestowed on them by God Almighty. With that conviction, he keeps lying at the threshold of God with his entreaties like a beggar.

To teach mankind, God Almighty has given the example of angels who confessed most humbly:

َّ َ ْ َ َّ ‫لَا ِعل َﻢ لَﻨﺂ ِالا َما َعل ْﻤ َتﻨا‬

“O my Allah! Make the knowledge that You have bestowed on me beneficial for me and grant me knowledge that is beneficial for me and continue to increase me in knowledge forever and evermore.”

True knowledge is that which is beneficial and a deed acceptable to God is that which is righteous. In keeping with that point of wisdom, the Holy Prophetsa has taught us another prayer: ْ ُ ْ َّ ُ َّ َ ً َ ًَ ًَ ْ َ ًَ ‫ارزﻗ ِﻨ ْﻰ �ِ ﻠﻤﺎ ﻧﺎ ِﻓ َﻌﺎ ّوﻋ َﻤ�� َﺻ ِﺎ��ﺎ ﺗ ْﺮﺿﺎه‬ ‫ا���ﻢ‬ “O, My God! Grant me knowledge, that is beneficial for me, and the ability to do good deeds that please You!” َ Another narration adds ‫ – ﻳ َ ْﺮﻓ ْﻌ ِﻨﻰ‬meaning grant me the ability to do good deeds that lead to an increase in my ranks.

Allah taught the following prayer by revelation to the Promised Messiahas: َْْ َ َ َ ‫َر ِ ّب ا ِرﻧِ ْﻰ َﺣﻘﺎ ﰱِﻖ ا��ﺷ َﻴﺎء‬ “O, my Lord! show me the reality of things” (Tadhkirah [English], p. 990) Knowledge must lead to moulding one’s practice accordingly, because it is the practice that lends credence to the sincerity of one’s faith. This world is Dar-ul-’Amal (the place of action) and the Hereafter is the day of recompense when one will be answerable for their deeds.

The Holy Quran has placed great emphasis on appropriate and righteous deeds that follow knowledge and faith. A righteous deed is that which involves the use of physical and natural faculties, being mindful of obligations to fellow human beings, being free from any discord and inequity and being appropriate to the situation and the need. The Promised Messiahas has defined a righteous deed, in simple and comprehensive terms as that “which is only for the sake of God.” (Malfuzat [Urdu], Vol. 9, p. 96) It is imperative to act on the knowledge that is acquired. The Arabic words ’ilm (knowledge) and ’amal (action/practice) are derived from the same set of letters and are thus fundamentally intertwined with one another.

Allah Almighty has created man such that he is pledged to toil and struggle. Man does not achieve his goal only through knowledge, intention, or desire for it; he gets what he struggles for. Knowledge is a treasure, but action is the key to it. An Urdu poet has put it in the following words:

‫ن‬ �‫�ش �� �ی� نوک � � �ڑ� وا‬ ِ ‫ںیہ‬ ‫�ی � � ی‬ �‫� ںیہ ی� �ےئ اج� ںیہ ی‬

Life of Holy Prophet Muhammad commemorated by Ahmadis in Latvia fate should know, These images do not come about spontaneously but have to be created.

However, salvation in the Hereafter does not depend on deeds alone but on the mercy and forgiveness of Allah Almighty. Of course, good and righteous deeds are means to attract Divine Mercy.

The Promised Messiahas says: “Blessed is the one who owns up to his failings and seeks Divine Mercy and extremely insolent, wicked and unfortunate is the person who regards his deeds as the result of his faculties and demands justice from God.” (Chashma-e-Ma’rifat, Ruhani Khazain, Vol. 23, p. 35) The Promised Messiahas has written about knowledge and practice in many of his books. He has elaborated a great deal on its various aspects in his epoch-making treatise, The Philosophy of the Teachings of Islam. Answering the fifth question on sources of Divine knowledge, he mentioned three types of knowledge: 1. Knowledge by way of certainty of inference 2. Knowledge by way of certainty of sight 3. Knowledge by way of certainty of experience He stated various sources of knowledge, including reason, traditions, human nature, Divine revelations and practical experiences.

Passing through these, stage by stage, one attains the highest level of utmost certainty by way of experience. He has explained the mutual relationship and connection between knowledge and practice, as follows: “There is no virtue in the knowledge that is confined to the mind and the heart. True knowledge is that which emerges from the mind and regulates and trains all the limbs and manifests itself all the store of memory.

Thus, knowledge is strengthened and fostered through its imprint being imposed on all the limbs by practical experience. No type of knowledge, however elementary arrives at its climax without practice.” (The Philosophy of the Teachings of Islam, pp. 202203) He further elaborated: “Only that knowledge is beneficial which has been tested by experience and knowledge that is merely academic and has not been the subject of experience is without beneficences.” (Ibid, p. 204) He added: “The ultimate certainty of Knowledge is achieved through the experience of every

part of it. That is what happened in Islam.

God Almighty provided the Muslims with the opportunity to illustrate whatever they were taught in the Quran in their practice and thus to become filled with light.” (Ibid) In these few words, the Promised Messiahas has given a great deal of insight. briefly but comprehensively, concerning the mutual relationship and connection between knowledge and practice.

Knowledge is like a seed and unless it sprouts into a plant that bears fruits and flowers of deeds, it is inert, immaterial, and useless. That is why, Islam – the most perfect religion, while drawing attention to the magnificence and blessings of knowledge, and its acquisition, has emphasised the need to put it into practice. The Holy Quran has repeatedly mentioned faith and righteous deeds together. Affirmation of faith with the tongue alone amounts to nothing unless it is put into practice.

It is worth remembering that the journey of faith starts with knowledge. When this knowledge progresses to certainty and insight, it is called faith. Faith relates to the heart. According to Islamic teachings, it is not enough for one only to affirm some beliefs earnestly unless the practical demands of that belief are fulfilled, and it is fully enforced into one’s practical life with good and appropriate righteous deeds. Till such time, faith is not called perfect. Thus, knowledge and practice are inextricably intertwined.

Without practice, knowledge is unprofitable and useless and without knowledge, deeds are devoid of beauty and virtue. Ideological and academic knowledge is beneficial only when it is acted upon. The same principle is operative in the spiritual as well as the material world. Every invention in the world is the product of a practical transformation of knowledge.

Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Ira makes a profound point in his book Mirqatul Yaqeen about the mutual relationship between knowledge and practice. He states that once he saw the Holy Prophetsa in a dream and asked him, “What did you teach Hazrat Abu Hurairahra whereby he could commit your sayings to memory?” As the Holy Prophetsa moved his mouth close to his ear to tell him, Khalifa Nuruddin Sahib woke him up, saying it was time for prayer. Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Ira interpreted the dream to suggest that acting upon the ahadith was indeed the means to remember them.

Marghoob Ahmad Secretary Ishaat, Jamaat Latvia

Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Latvia had the opportunity to hold Jalsa Seerat-un-Nabisa at the Mission House in Riga, the capital of Latvia on 15 October 2022.

The Jalsa commenced after Maghrib and Isha prayers, presided over by Basharat Ahmad Shahid Sahib, missionary and national president of Jamaat Latvia.

The proceedings began with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by a poem.

This was followed by speeches on “Hazrat Muhammadsa: The Prophet of peace”, “The Holy Prophet’s Response to Blasphemy”, and “Love of the Holy Prophetsa and Importance of Durood Sharif”.

The Jalsa, which lasted for about an hour, concluded with silent prayer. The total attendance at the Jalsa was 22.

Kosovo aftal learn martial arts and firefighting Besmir Yvejsi Kosovo Correspondent

Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya Kosovo organised a special event for the members of Majlis Atfal-ul-Ahmadiyya Kosovo at the Jamaat’s centre in Prishtina on 6 November 2022.

The event began with a gathering where the atfal were informed about the day’s activities, the purpose and benefits of participating in cultural activities and about gaining knowledge about firefighting.

After the silent prayer, atfal went to the Professional Brigade of Firefighters Prishtina and visited the facilities of this brigade.

After the group arrived at the fire station, one of the officials of the station explained

the work tools and demonstrated how they extinguished fires.

The fire official invited all atfal to enter the call centre booth and demonstrated how the action starts the moment they receive an emergency phone call. Atfal also had the opportunity to ask some questions.

After the atfal returned to the Jamaat’s centre, the local mu’allim of Mitrovica, who was the Karate Champion of Kosovo a few years ago, trained the children with several styles of self-defence. This was followed by lunch and Zuhr and Asr prayers.

The event was attended by nine atfal from Peja, Mitrovica, Prishtina, Fushekosova and the surrounding villages.

A beloved remembered

Promised Messiah’s appearance and physique The Promised Messiahas was slightly taller than the average height, his body was somewhat bulky, his forehead was high, and his eyes were broad, but being always half-closed owing to modesty, they would appear narrow. The face of the Promised Messiahas was bright, the chest was broad, the back was straight, and the muscles of his body were strong. There were no wrinkles on his face or body. The complexion of the Promised Messiahas was wheatish and reddish fair. When he would laugh, his face would turn red. His hair was straight, soft and shiny, hanging down to his ears. His beard was slightly longer than the length of a fist, and he would have any longer hair than this trimmed down.

Covering the face with the shimla [loose end of the turban] Sometimes, while sitting in an assembly, the Promised Messiahas would take the shimla of his turban in his hand and put it on his mouth. I personally believe that when the Promised Messiahas used to recite the words of the glorification of God Almighty, he would cover his mouth so that the movement of his lips may not be visible to the people.

Change of dress Once Sheikh Rahmatullah Sahib, while mentioning someone’s expenses, said before the Promised Messiahas that, “He should only have one dress for each day of the week and his expenses should not exceed this limit.” The Promised Messiahas said to him, “I use a pair of clean clothes for a week.”

Use of perfume A pleasant fragrance of musk was always felt coming from the clothes and the blessed body of the Promised Messiahas. There would never be any kind of bad smell of perspiration or body odour, etc.

Sleeping attire It was the regular practice of the Promised Messiahas that he would change his trousers before going to sleep at night and wear a teh-band [a loose piece of clothing wrapped around the lower half of the body]. Once the Promised Messiahas said, “It is my habit.”

Writing while walking The Promised Messiahas would often walk on the upper floor of the house and write while walking. He would place an inkpot on the wall on one side and another one on the opposite side. He used to hold the pen in his right hand and the paper in his left

hand. The Promised Messiahas would write while walking and usually read the text in a suppressed tone.

Recording revelation at night At night, the Promised Messiahas would always keep a pen and an inkpot or a pencil at his bedside. When the Promised Messiahas received a divine revelation during the night, he would write it down in his notebook. He would write one revelation many times on the same page, so that there was no difficulty reading it in the morning, because it was written in the darkness of night.

Discussions with guests When friends used to visit from outside [of Qadian], the Promised Messiahas would often ask them the following questions: 1. “Is there any opposition to our Jamaat in your city?” If those friends answered that there was no opposition, the Promised Messiahas would regret and say, “If there is no opposition, then how will there be progress [of our Jamaat]? There should at least be some opposition in the beginning.”

2. The second question the Promised Messiahas used to ask was, “Is there a mosque of Ahmadis [in your city]?” He would say, “A place must be built for the worship of God, even if it is only a small one.”

3. The Promised Messiahas would also ask them, “How much time do you have and how many days will you stay here [in Qadian]?”

Applying henna The Promised Messiahas had a habit of getting his moustache trimmed every fifth day. He would also get henna applied to his hair and beard by the barber. The colour of his hair would look reddish due to henna.

In the last years, Hazrat Mir Hamid Shah Sahibra Sialkoti prepared a combination that, when mixed with henna, served as a remedy against colds and flu. That combination possessed another quality as well; it would give a blackish colour to the hair. Owing to its use, the hair of the Promised Messiahas would look black in the final years of his life.

[Use of a staff ] It was the usual practice of the Promised Messiahas that he always kept a staff in his hand when he would go outside of the house. When the Promised Messiahas used to go on a journey, for a walk or to the central mosque for Friday prayer, the staff would always be in his hand.

Solitude At a particular time during the day, the Promised Messiahas used to separate himself from everyone for an hour or two. The

house where we all stayed in Gurdaspur had a small room on the left side, next to the entrance on the ground floor, which used to serve as a restroom. However, there was enough room for restrooms on the top floor of the house. Thus, the Promised Messiahas got that ground floor room cleared and cleaned. It was washed thoroughly and a new floor was installed on it. The Promised Messiahas would bolt its door from the inside and stay there completely isolated for two or three hours in the afternoon.

Listening to poems If a friend wanted to read out a poem or a work of his, the Promised Messiahas used to listen to it in his assembly. Once an Ahmadi, named Abdul Rahman Faridabadi recited his poem, which made everyone in the gathering laugh, and Huzooras also could not help laughing either.

Prerequisites of poetry Dr Abdul Hakeem Sahib, who later became an apostate, once recited a poem of his which was incorrect and certain letters were unnecessarily stressed for adjusting its rhythm. When Hazrat Maulvi Abdul Karim Sahibra expressed his dislike for that [poem], the Promised Messiahas smiled and said, “Maulvi Sahib, have you not heard this:

Gregorian calendar The Promised Messiahas would use the Gregorian calendar to record the dates in his writings. He would rarely use the dates of the Hijri calendar. The reason behind it is that, generally, the practice of using the Gregorian calendar has become so common in the country that everyone remembers its date and frequently makes use of it. On the other hand, when other formats are used, it is difficult for the readers to quickly grasp the exact day and year.

Anjuman is subordinate Towards the end of the year 1906, an announcement by a doctor was published in the newspapers Badr and Al Hakam, in which a medicine for growing a moustache was mentioned. Thereupon, some members of the Anjuman passed a resolution in a meeting that the editors [of the Jamaat’s newspapers] should not publish such announcements. I was really hurt about it. It was only a trivial matter. As the announcement was published in Badr, if it had been brought to my attention, I would have published a note saying that it was a mistake. There was no need to present the matter in a meeting and pass a resolution on it. I found an opportunity to meet the Promised Messiahas in person and expressed my displeasure regarding the matter. The Promised Messiahas said, “These people are my subordinates, so do not pay much attention to them. There is no harm done to you.”

False news In the life of the Promised Messiahas, one of the mischiefs that the opponents and enemies of the Jamaat used to do was that they would spread false news that, “Mirza has got the plague,” or that, “Mirza is suffering from leprosy.” In order to convince the public, those who spread such propaganda used to concoct a false story that, “We ourselves went to Qadian and saw with our own eyes that Mirza had bandages on his hands due to leprosy.” They used to stop the visitors on the way, on the train and on the road, saying, “You should not go to Qadian as there is nothing there.” Some weak men would be deceived by them and go back.

However, most people would stay strong and determined. Upon reaching Qadian, when the lies of their opponents were revealed to them, they would be very surprised — how is it possible for a person to be so untruthful.

The people would mention those incidents before the Promised Messiahas and, while kissing his hands, say, “The enemies spread a lot of false news about these holy hands, but they all turned out to be lies.”

Accommodating friends in the house During the days of the plague, the Promised Messiahas gave some friends a place to stay in his house. Consequently, this humble one and Maulvi Syed Sarwar Shah Sahibra were accommodated in the small rooms and the yard on the ground floor.

Lessons from four cats and a bird

It was a Sunday afternoon and Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, the Promised Messiahas was at home, albeit worried, as his friend and companion, Hazrat Seth Allah Rakhkha Abdul Rahmanra of Madras, was faced with a difficult problem.

That day, on 29 June 1902, an interesting incident unfolded before the Promised Messiahas at his house. It was so interesting, in fact, that the next day, Huzooras narrated the whole story in a letter to his friend.

Huzooras wrote: “I have four [free-roaming] cats in my house; a mother and three daughters, that are also young and strong. Yesterday afternoon, I was sitting alone in the hallway when a bird came and sat in front of my door. The big cat immediately pounced on the bird and seized the bird’s head in its mouth.

“Then another cat came, snatched the bird from the first one and took its head in its mouth and dragged it on the ground so hard that I could not watch out of pity [for the bird] and turned the other way.

“Then I saw the third cat take the bird’s head in its mouth and at that time I thought that [its] head had probably been devoured.

Meanwhile, the fourth cat took the bird and dragged it to the ground.

“At this point, I was sure that the bird was dead and its head had been eaten. The bird fell several times while it was being dragged.

Then one of the cats, wishing to partake of the bird’s flesh, pulled it towards itself, perhaps so that half [of the bird] might go to the other cat and a half to it.

“But for some reason, the bird escaped from the mouths of both of them and fell to the ground. As soon as it fell, it fluttered to life and flew away. All four cats gave chase,

but what could be done? [The bird] went and sat on a tree, and the cats came back disappointed and beaten.

“My heart was thrilled to see this incident — that this is the way how God Almighty also saves [one] from the hands of their enemies.

“Then, thinking that this was a time for the acceptance of prayer, I prayed for you for a long time, ‘O Almighty God! Just as you saved this helpless bird from the bloodlust of its enemies, so save the life of your helpless servant Abdul Rahman. Amin.’ I hope that this prayer will not be in vain.” (Maktubat-eAhmad, 2008, Vol. 2, pp. 404–405) I started pondering over this incident and noted that there were several lessons to learn from the anecdote about the Promised Messiahas. Here are a few that sprang to my mind: 1. It was a habit of the Promised Messiahas to carefully observe the world around him.

This might seem irrelevant, but this is a dying habit. However, Huzooras not only observed the natural world around him but also drew conclusions from it. The Holy Quran also teaches us to observe the natural world around us and learn from our surroundings, for example, by presenting the incident of Cane, the son of Hazrat Adamas. He had killed his brother in a moment of anger, and at that time, Allah the Almighty states:

َ ُ ۡ َ ۡ ُ َ ۡ َّ ً َ ُ ُ ّٰ َ َ َ َ َ ‫ض ل ِیرِیَ ٗہ ک ۡی َف یُوَارِ ۡی َسوۡ َءۃ‬ ِ ‫فب َعث الل َہ غرابا یبحث فِی الار‬ َ ‫ا ِخ ۡی ِہ ؕ ق‬ َ‫ال ٰیوَیۡ َل ٰۤتی اَ َع َج ۡز ُت اَ ۡن اَکُوۡ َن ِم ۡث َل ٰہ َذا ال ۡ ُغر‬ ‫اب‬ ِ ُ َ َ َ َ ‫فا َوارِی َسوۡ َءۃ ا ِخ ۡی‬

“Then Allah sent a raven, which scratched in the ground, that He might show him how to hide the corpse of his brother. He said, ‘Woe is me! Am I not able to be even like this raven so that I may hide the corpse of my brother?’” (Surah alMaidah Ch.5: V.32)

2. Huzooras was a true friend, who cared for his companions.

In 1902, the plague was raging in India and Huzooras was busy writing books, and warning people, not to mention that The Review of Religions and Badr had just been launched. And yet, perhaps at a moment of rest, or quiet reflection and prayer, Huzoor’s mind was occupied with his friend’s hardships, full of empathy at the challenges the companion was facing in his life. Hence, when he was reminded of Allah’s marvellous help for his servants, he prayed for his friend.

3. Huzooras kept in touch with his friends through frequent letters.

We often do not bother to keep in touch, citing excuses, but our Imam, the Promised Messiahas, kept in touch with his friends, listening to their problems and praying for them. The aforementioned story is taken from a four-volume collection of the Promised Messiah’sas letters to his friends, acquaintances, and colleagues titled Maktubat-e-Ahmad. It contains thousands of letters in which he inquires about his friends and lets them know how things are with him.

4. Huzooras had a soft heart, full of sympathy for all of God’s creations.

Seeing the bird dragged across the floor was so painful that he could not watch. This is not to say that the Promised Messiahas was faint-hearted. Rather, as is apparent from other incidents in Huzoor’s life, Huzooras was extremely kind-hearted and could not bear to see the innocent in pain.

5. The Promised Messiahas was the embodiment of ‘the mind being set on the Beloved, even when busy performing worldly duties’ [dil ba yar, dast ba kar].

The Promised Messiahas saw the manifestation of God’s attributes everywhere and even ordinary occurrences of life reminded him in his Beloved. In his book Chashma-e-Ma‘rifat (p. 4), Huzooras states:

‫ےہ بجع ولجہ�کرتی دقرت اک ایپ ی�ارے رہ رطف‬ ‫ی‬ ‫سج رطف د ھ�یں ویہ رہ ےہ رتے د�دی دار اک‬ What show of Thy splendour is all around, My Dear, Wherever we look, that way leads to Thy View!

6. The Promised Messiahas was extremely humble and hopeful of the help of Allah.

Here is a prophet of Allah the Almighty, whom Allah had promised on multiple occasions that all his prayers would be accepted. And yet he remains humble and prays long and hard for his friend.

In conclusion, a small event in the life of the Promised Messiahas can shed light on his beautiful character and personality. In this particular incident, we learn, from many small details, some of these characteristics.

Friday Sermon Mubarak Mosque, Islamabad, UK, 21 October 2022

The USA Tour 2022 After reciting the tashahud, ta’awuz and Surah al-Fatihah, Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa stated: As you may all know, recently I was on tour, visiting some of the jamaats in the USA and you were receiving news of this through MTA and electronic media platforms of the Community. By the grace of God Almighty, it was a very successful tour.

Moreover, many secular channels also gave [the tour] a lot of coverage. We have witnessed the blessings of Allah the Almighty in every aspect. This tour had a positive impact on both the members of the Jamaat as well as the non-Ahmadis.

One Khadim told his friend that he had developed some reservations about the Jamaat and Khilafat, but now, after this tour, they have been completely removed. There are many positive sentiments like this.

Moreover, there are countless passionate sentiments of children, women and men that they expressed after their mulaqat [private audience]. You will also have read them in the reports which were published.

In Zion, Dallas and Baitur Rahman, Maryland, there was a large attendance of women, children and men for the prayers.

The manner in which they would express their emotions upon seeing me as I would go past them, clearly showed that their hearts are filled with love, sincerity and devotion for Khilafat.

Well-educated people, affluent individuals as well as those who lead busy lives in the worldly sense, would queue up for hours in order to get a space in the mosque for prayers. It wasn’t the case that only those who had free time came. This transformation within them and their attitude proves that by the grace of Allah the Almighty, the love for religion and the Jamaat is present in their hearts. Their hearts are connected to Khilafat. 11 or 12-year-old children would queue up for five or six hours as the security checking and Covid testing were time-consuming. However, not a single, individual complained about this, be they guests or members of the Community.

In fact, the members of the Jamaat showed an example of complete obedience to the organisers and utmost sincerity.

As a matter of fact, an individual in Zion observed this and said, “I observed how smoothly everything was running. There was formal checking in place. It was timeconsuming, however, no one complained.”

The parents of an 11 or 12-year-old child said to me, “Since you have arrived, our son has been queuing up for five or six hours in order to enter the mosque and is not concerned with anything else, whereas he has previously never attended prayers with such attention.”

Nevertheless, I have observed a sense of joy and happiness in all the children, boys and girls alike. This is a favour of Allah the Almighty on the Jamaat. At every place, the attendance for prayers was far greater than the expectations of the organisers. May Allah the Almighty make this attachment

of theirs to the mosque and their concern for worship an everlasting one and may the mosque remain populated forever. May the sincerity and devotion, that the members of the Jamaat demonstrated, remain everestablished in them. People think that in a country like America, people tend to forget religion. However, I have observed that most of the members were focused and concerned in this regard. Even those that are weak in making financial sacrifices made special requests for prayers for themselves and for their offspring to remain attached to their faith and Khilafat. May Allah the Almighty continue to increase the sincerity and devotion of the members of the Jamaat in the USA. Similarly, the Lajna, Khuddam, Ansar and even children carried out their duties over this period with great diligence.

Women and men have stayed up several nights and made preparations. As I said, by the grace of Allah the Almighty, the attendance everywhere was quite high; in the thousands. In Baitur Rahman, their attendance was even greater than the attendance at their Jalsa. Nevertheless, they managed their affairs in a very organised manner. May Allah the Almighty continue to increase this standard of sincerity and loyalty expressed by the members of the USA Jamaat. May this not just be a temporary change in their condition, but one that forever remains in them.

At present, I will mention some of the impressions of the non-Ahmadis. Allah the Almighty has caused the hearts of the nonAhmadis to be impacted in an extraordinary manner. May Allah the Almighty open their hearts even further and may they become those, who recognise the truth. Nevertheless, I will present some impressions.

A mosque was built in Zion, the Fath-eAzeem mosque. I will mention some details in relation to the function that was held there. 161 non-Muslim and non-Ahmadi guests attended the event, including congressmen, congresswomen, mayors, doctors, professors, teachers, lawyers, engineers and representatives of the security department as well as people from all walks of life.

The mayor of the city of Zion, Hon. Billy McKinney, said the following in his remarks: “It is an absolute honour and privilege for me to welcome His Holiness, the World Leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, to the city of Zion for the inauguration of the Fath-e-Azeem mosque.”

Following this, he said, “Here in Zion, our motto is, ‘historic past and dynamic future’.

This beautiful mosque in the heart of our city exemplifies that motto.” He further said, “It is my wish and my prayer that this house of worship will serve as a bridge between our past and our future. Knowing that this mosque is here, filled with worshippers from such an outstanding faith community, it fills

me with hope for the future of the city of Zion. […] When I look at the message that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has brought to our city, I am deeply gratified.”

This is what non-Ahmadis expect from us as well. Following this, he said, “This is a community that reveres the Prophet of Islam, Muhammadsa, who made a covenant with Christians. […]” He further said, “It is with deep gratitude for the outstanding services rendered by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to the city of Zion and your commitment to furthering the development of the city and improving the wellbeing of its people that we present the key to the city of Zion to His Holiness.” Following this, he presented the key to the city.

The mayor of the city of Zion gave his impressions. He says, “I have been living here since 1962, this event is historic for both the city of Zion and for the [Ahmadiyya Muslim] Community.” He also told me in a very emotional manner, “Today you have left me speechless, and it felt wonderful for me to be present there.”

Expressing her sentiments, Member of the Illinois General Assembly Hon. Joyce Mason said, “It is an honour to be part of this historic event, the inauguration of the Fath-e-Azeem Mosque here in Zion, a place of great historical significance for the Ahmadi Muslim Community. This is truly a special day for this city. Zion was a place founded at the beginning of the last century by Alexander Dowie, who wanted it to be a theocratic city, closed to all except those who followed him. Today, the city of Zion is home to people of all faiths.

This mosque is the sign of a victory of the prayers of the faithful over the prejudice of bigots. I congratulate the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community on this tremendous achievement.” Now even others have become well acquainted with this prayer duel. She then says, “His Holiness is a leading Muslim figure for promoting peace.” She then said, “He has spoken to lawmakers and other leaders around the world, emphasising peaceful co-existence.” She went on to say, “The city of Zion is fortunate that such a peace-loving and service-oriented community has decided to settle down here and build such a beautiful mosque. It is my fervent wish that this mosque becomes a beacon of hope, not just for this city, but for all around. I am introducing a house resolution congratulating the community on the inauguration of the new mosque.”

Dr Katrina Lantos, President of the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights & Justice, says, “I find that every time I am with the members of the [Ahmadiyya Muslim] Community, my spirits are lifted to a higher plane.” She says, “When I heard the story of the prayer duel that took place here in Zion, one of the things that I found so fascinating about this story was that in a time long before everybody had their handheld devices and

their cell phones and their computers, this prayer duel went viral. One vision, that of Dr John Dowie was, in simple terms, based on hate, and based on division, and based on bigotry and prejudice. The other vision, that of the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Community, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad [as], was one of respect and tolerance, and a kind of security that came from someone who was willing to leave the ultimate outcome to God, to Allah. And of course, we know who prevailed in this extraordinary prayer duel. And indeed, this beautiful mosque, which is now being inaugurated, is in fact called the Fath-e-Azeem Mosque, which means ‘a great victory,’ because the victory in that prayer duel went to the Ahmadis, to the Founder and Leader of the Ahmadiyya Community, but really, I think we have to say that the victory went not only to the Ahmadiyya Community, but to humanity as well. This is because it was a victory for respect, for love and for tolerance that we now see embodied in this marvellous community.” She then says, “Now we are sitting here tonight in a beautiful setting, in a peaceful place, but I don’t think we can let this evening go by without remembering an Ahmadi Community in Pakistan that daily faces unimaginable persecution, and hatred and violence on account of their faith, and who find themselves alone in the face of the current government.”

The former commissioner of Zion, Amos Monk, expressed his sentiments.

He says, “In my opinion, your teachings encompass everything and I feel that it is something that the world at large should be more aware of. I think this is the best-kept secret in the world at this point in time. I’m looking at this brochure that was on all the tables, which sends the message of equity, justice, sincerity and love. That is what’s needed throughout the universe; no hatred and we could have a dynamic world. I think this message should be heard by the world, and that is the only way we can cure the ills of the world.”

Professor Craig Considine, who has written a book on the life of the Holy Prophetsa and is a devout Christian says, “I was emotional to see the Caliph meet me like an old friend. I greatly enjoyed His Holiness’ speech, it increased my knowledge of Islam. When I receive the transcript of this speech, I will be sure to use it in my next book.” He continues, “His Holiness spoke beautifully and in simple terms that could be understood by all types of people with ease.” He then says, “I especially appreciate his message of drawing attention towards adopting universal human values, mutual respect, tolerance, dignity and honour.” He further states, “You are calling us all towards mutual love.” He also listened to the Friday Sermon and remained seated for the entire hour. He later said to me as well that he had never heard such a sermon before.

AL HAKAM | Friday 18 November 2022 A guest from Illinois, Melody Hall, says, “I am a product development manager.

I found this event to be very interesting and I enjoyed it a great deal. His Holiness’ message that there is no room in society for people with prejudice was excellent. Seeing him and listening to him was unique and it gave me a good feeling. I truly enjoyed it and I really liked when His Holiness said that our only weapon is prayer.”

Another guest named Jeff Fender said, “I am a certified public accountant and also work in real estate. This was my first experience [at the mosque] and I have been touched. Coming to this mosque inauguration was a precious moment in my life.” Then, with regard to the address, he said, “I have been moved by it and I have learned a lot of new things about you.” He then said, “the prayer duel was new for me and I will do further research into it.” This is also how avenues for tabligh are opened.

There was also a high school teacher present named Matt Render. He says, “I really liked His Holiness’ message and the way in which he presented it. Many people like me can easily understand this message.”

Mary Lou Hildebrand from the emergency services also attended the programme; she says, “I was very moved, your message was sincere without any ceremoniousness. Your demeanour was sincere and upstanding. From this, everyone can discern your day-to-day lives.”

Dr Jesse Rodriguez also attended this programme. He is the school superintendent in the Benton area. He says, “His Holiness’ address revolved around unity; it was an excellent message. He said that all religions are important and we can all remain united.

It was excellent.”

Then, Zach Livingstone, the principal of a local high school says, “His Holiness’ words bear within them a certain type of attraction.

In particular, his efforts to fulfil the rights of humanity and to serve humanity are very impactful. Your motto, ‘Love for all, hatred for none’ reverberates in all nations, faiths and especially throughout the city of Zion.

There is a vital need for this message. After the pandemic, there has been an emotional and societal decline in our families and our students and we desperately need this message in order to recover from this.”

There was another guest in attendance who was also among those who laid a foundation stone for the Zion mosque. He says, “Today was a beautiful day. I was able to be part of the foundation laying for this mosque a year ago and I was eager to see it completed. Your mosque is a source of hope and friendship for our community.”

The Zion Police Chief, Mr Eric says, “This was a very good programme. It was nice to see such love and sincerity all around.

The message that it doesn’t matter who you are, but what matters is how you treat others is an excellent message.”

Another guest, Jennifer says, “As far as the principles of your community are concerned, they are the best. When you step into Zion the motto ‘Love for all, hatred for none’ is visible upon the old building and it echoes alongside you. This voice remains with you and this is the true spirit of the city of Zion.”

Another guest, Cheri Neal, who is the Supervisor of the Township of Zion says, “I am astonished at the organisation. I’m pleased that you were able to achieve your

purpose.”

Then, another guest said, “I was very pleased to learn that there is a guide like you among us who represents millions and unites people together. He speaks on the subject that we are all one and each religion holds significance. This is a very good and impactful message.”

Another guest, Ms Gloria says, “Zion has quite a detailed past. Despite living here, there were many things about this place that I did not know.”

Then, another guest said, “I enjoyed this event a great deal and this message has truly moved me. I knew about your motto, ‘Love for all, hatred for none’ but after seeing you, I have only been further convinced. Many things left an impact on me.” And then he says, “It was new for me to hear His Holiness say that the Holy Quran is the book which protects all faiths; this is something new that I learned that I did not know about before.”

Then, there was an Indian professor, Shobana Shankar, who also met with me.

She is a professor at the State University of New York. She has also conducted research at the Abdus Salam Research Centre in Italy and she lived in Ghana for some time as well. She expressed that I used to be in Ghana but my work there still lives on – she brought this up in her conversation with me. The professor said that she has spoken to many other professors in Africa who have studied at the Ahmadiyya Girls School. These are excellent schools for girls.

She wishes to bring to light the community’s educational services and history and wishes to write a book on Ahmadis in West Africa.

The professor said that she would need the community’s help in benefitting from translators in the local languages. I told her that whatever area she requires help in, we will provide it, God-willing. In fact, I also advised her that, aside from Ghana, she should include other countries as well.

Then, there was also the inauguration of the Baitul Ikram Mosque in Dallas.

140 non-Muslim and non-Ahmadi guests participated in that event, which included politicians, doctors, professors, teachers, lawyers, engineers, representatives from security institutions and people from all walks of life. Whilst expressing his sentiments, Carl Clemencich, a member of the City Council of Allen – who also granted the key to the city – said, “It is truly an honour to be part of this historic event, the inauguration of the Baitul Ikram Mosque. On behalf of the mayor and the rest of the City Council of Allen, I congratulate the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community on this tremendous achievement.”

The mayor came to the mosque two days prior and met me. He expressed his regret that he was going to be travelling abroad and would not be able to attend, hence he would be sending a representative. He was a very pleasant and friendly person. The representative of the mayor further stated, “We commend the services rendered by the Ahmadiyya Community, which include the distribution of food to the poor, collecting clothing for those in need, and offering help to the residents of this area on numerous occasions.” He further stated, “The city of Allen is fortunate that such a peace-loving and service-oriented community has decided to settle down here and build such a beautiful mosque. It is my wish that this mosque becomes a beacon of hope, not just

for the city but for all those around it.” Allen is a city directly adjacent to Dallas and has practically become a part of it. In the end, on behalf of the mayor and City Council, he also granted the key to the city.

Professor Dr Robert Hunt, the director of the Department of Global Theology at the Southern Methodist University Perkin School of Theology, was also present at the event. He remarked, “I want to thank the Ahmadiyya Community for inviting me and other representatives of Perkin School of Theology and Southern Methodist University to this historic event. It is a great honour.” He further states, “His Holiness has been dedicated to the promotion of two closely related virtues: Religious freedom and inter-religious dialogue. The two go hand-in-hand, because, without mutual understanding and respect between and within religions, the forces for exclusion and division grow ever stronger. I say this as one who, for more than half of my adult life, lived as a member of a religious minority in other lands.” He further stated, “The Ahmadiyya Community positively responding to its own history of being oppressed and marginalised, has been a leader in the efforts towards promoting religious freedom, because it is only when we treat one another with respect and an open mind that we will be able to overcome sectarianism and rid society of ill thoughts.”

Moving on, the Honourable Michael McCaul, Congressman for the Republicans, also expressed his thoughts. He said, “The three major religions link back to Abraham; Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.” He then addressed me and said, “His Holiness believes extensively that these three Abrahamic faiths can all live peacefully. And no one knows that better than the Ahmadiyya Community.” He further stated, “His Holiness and I talked about the teachings of Jesus, the teachings of Ahmadiyyat, the New Testament and the Gospels.” We spoke at length, and he also had the book Jesus in India in his possession. He said, “I have read half of it and am currently reading it. It is very interesting and I will have to do further research.” He said that he was learning many new things about Jesusas from this book. He is a well-educated man and holds an interest in religion. Nonetheless, he stated, “We had the opportunity to speak about the New Testament and the Gospels. I think we can learn a lot from the Ahmadis about peace and forgiveness and love, because that’s what I was taught as a Catholic. I am now the chairman of the Ahmadiyya Caucus in the congress.” He is the chairman of the committee of individuals who speak in favour and support of the Community.

He further said, “I especially commend you for promoting global peace and international harmony, condemning extremism and fanaticism, alleviating poverty and advocating for economic equality, international human rights and international religious freedom.” He further stated, “Many Ahmadis have been targeted and killed. Despite the continuance of such cruelties, the Imam of the Community forbade retaliating in aggression against others – an extraordinary feat.” He then said, “The Imam of the Community has repeatedly reminded world leaders that justice is necessary to establish true and lasting peace.” He spoke out for oppressed nations. These were his sentiments that he

articulated, and he spoke extensively.

A guest by the name of Tom Berry said, “I would like to thank the Imam of the Community. His message, hospitality, mutual understanding – just everything – was excellent. No doubt, it is a blessing that work is being done for the betterment of one another, irrespective of one’s beliefs and faith. Life should be cherished and life should be loved. Everyone should be respected and everyone should be loved.

This proves that the accountability of society does not fall upon one individual, rather everyone should work together. This was the message of the Caliph. This is such a message that should be revisited every day before going to sleep and after waking up in the morning; it is the very message that should be propagated. We should instil this message within our children, because after we have passed, they will keep this message alive. I thank you once again.”

Furthermore, there was a Muslim guest by the name of Sultan Chaudhary. He said, “In my opinion, the message of peace for the world given by the Imam of the Community is an excellent message. I believe it is very important to remove this stigma that Muslims seek to take over. He [Hazrat Khalifatul Masih Vaa] has made it clear that because there is no scheme being made in an effort to destroy all Muslims, Muslims are not permitted to wage war.”

Mrs Beverly McCord, a guest from the North Presbyterian Church, was in attendance; she says, “Having seen the Caliph and listened to his words, I felt contentment. I have not seen anyone strive to achieve world peace like him. I felt really good. If people abandoned their selfish agendas, or instead of trying to subdue their neighbour or trying to occupy someone else’s land, listened to this message, then peace can be established in the world. I wish we could listen to more speeches that promote the message of peace and remind the people that we must always work and strive for peace at all times.”

Mr LeRoy from the Collin County Police Department also attended the event.

He says, “This was an outstanding event, and I learnt a lot from it. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has done something truly remarkable.”

A Muslim guest, Dr Haleem-urRahman, was present and stated, “This was an unbelievable event. I loved the ceremony, the organisation, the hospitality and the hall.” He further says, “I was not worthy of the respect I was shown by the organisers.

Upon seeing all of this and the honour you extended to me, I had tears in my eyes. I had the opportunity to spend time with the most wonderful people, who were a true representation of the teachings of Islam.”

People sitting here in the west can make such comments, but if they go to Pakistan, the mulla [clerics] will not let them live in peace.

Ms Abby Kirkendall says, “I have seen a religious community, who although differ in the way they offer their worship, our values are the same. This was an extraordinary experience for me. It was an honour for me to be able to listen to the values presented by the Imam of the [Ahmadiyya] Community, who is a religious leader, and all communities should adopt this message.”

She then says, “Having come here, I could feel the presence of God, and where one

can feel the presence of God, irrespective of their beliefs, they experience peace and contentment; this was something felt by all attendees here, irrespective of their religion, nation and country. This is exactly what every community needs.”

Ms Victoria says, “The highlight of the event was the speech of the Imam of the Ahmadiyya Community and how he explained that despite our religious differences or differing viewpoints, we are all connected together. In my opinion, this is one thing that is missing these days from our interreligious dialogues. It was truly pleasing to listen to someone explain with such wisdom and insight that despite our religious differences, all of humanity is interconnected, and explain how we ought to live by caring for the sentiments of others.”

Another guest, Ms Mary McDermott, who is a neighbour of the Dallas mosque and has a large area of land; she also gave us space for parking, said, “I have never received so much delight from this soilfilled land than when I offered it for your programme.” She is a very honourable and respectable lady. She gave her land [to use] and in fact, cleaned it and levelled it before giving it.

Another guest, Ms Beverly McCord says, “I always enjoy listening to international religious leaders, who remind their people about the importance of peace, eschewing one’s differences and calling each other towards love. I always feel elated when I listen to such a message. I personally have no fear of this community and do not understand why anyone would have any fear, because this is such a loving community and one that looks out for the sentiments of others and renders service to mankind.

If someone did harbour any fear of this community, then upon seeing their services for humanity and their welfare projects, this fear would dissipate instantly.”

Another guest by the name of Joshua said: “I, along with various other senior priests, was invited to this inauguration event. I had the opportunity to converse with other people. I commend the manner in which the subject of peace, unity and justice was spoken about with such wisdom.

I also came to realise that there are people, who have a different culture and way of life than us, but they also promote the existence of God in our lives and instil compassion for one another. Our actions have an impact upon others, and therefore, to sit together, eat together, and speak to one another in this manner is very important.”

He further said, “I told my wife that the hospitality here was excellent and everything was very well organised from the moment we arrived here.”

We also travelled to Fort Worth, which is around 50 to 55 miles from Dallas, where a property has been purchased [by the Jamaat]. The area is around 3.5 acres and it also has a large building, but it does not have a mosque. Only a building was purchased there. In fact, the total area is not 3.5 acres, it is 4.75 acres and it also has a 13,000 sq. ft. building that includes multipurpose halls, offices and lobby areas. They plan to build a dome and two minarets in order to add the features of a mosque to it. It is a very good

property and the members of the Jamaat offer their prayers there. I also had the opportunity to lead the Maghrib and Isha prayers there.

Another guest, Abby Kirkendall, who lives in Fort Worth and attended the inauguration of the mosque in Dallas, said, “The Head of the Ahmadiyya Community delivered the message of working with one another with mutual cooperation in accordance with the will of God in a truly excellent manner. The message of peace and saving the world from a nuclear war was particularly significant to me. His message that whoever partakes in this war would face utter destruction was indeed a very powerful message.”

Another guest in attendance at the event in Dallas was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She said, “This was a remarkable message. Everyone needs to listen to this clear message of the Caliph.

The Khalifa delivered his message in an excellent manner. I took great pleasure in listening to his address and I wish to listen to him speak again.”

Another guest was a teacher at a High School Ministry, she said, “There were two points mentioned by the Caliph that particularly had an impact upon me.

Firstly, he acknowledged the fact that people within our societies indeed have reservations against Islam. As a teacher, I occasionally notice these things amongst my students. The second point, which I highly commended, was that the Caliph warned against the use of nuclear weapons. It was good to hear a message full of wisdom.”

These were some of the comments of the people. Now, I shall mention some other information and details in relation to the tour. As you would have seen on MTA as well that there was an exhibition set up in the mosque in Zion in relation to the prayer duel with Dowie. It also displayed the newspaper cuttings that covered this story.

In Majmu’ah Ishtiharat Vol. 3, the Promised Messiahas wrote the names of 32 newspapers and also wrote, “these newspapers are only those which we have received. From the sheer number of these, it seems that this was mentioned in hundreds of other newspapers.”

And so, the USA Jamaat conducted further research into this and found more newspapers. Apart from the 32 newspapers that the Promised Messiahas mentioned, they found another 128 newspapers which mentioned the challenge of the prayer duel given to Dowie. And thus, the total number of newspapers that published this news in the USA during the time of the Promised Messiahas is 160. All of these newspapers have been displayed in digital format in the exhibition, which has been set up next to the Fath-e-Azeem Mosque. People also came and visited this as well. The news of the inauguration of the mosque in Zion was covered by media outlets from around the world. The Associated Press, which is an American news agency, published an article about my tour and the inauguration of the Fath-e-Azeem mosque. The title was, “Two prophets, century-old prayer duel inspire Zion mosque.”

According to the website of this media outlet, its readership is approximately half

of the world’s population. This article was published in 13 countries and across 412 different media outlets and newspapers, including The Washington Post, ABC News, Toronto Star, The Hill and various other prominent newspapers. This was also ranked among the top ten articles of the Associated Press. It was not the case that people didn’t pay any attention to it, in fact, it was ranked among the top ten. The article mentioned that “a holy miracle happened in Zion 115 years ago. Or so millions of Ahmadi Muslims around the world believe.

“The Ahmadis view this small-sized city, 40 miles north of Chicago on the shores of Lake Michigan, as a place of special religious significance. Their reverence for the community began more than a century ago – with a prayer duel and a prophecy.

Zion was founded in 1900 as a Christian theocracy by John Alexander Dowie, an evangelical and early Pentecostal preacher.

The Ahmadis believe their founder, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, defended the faith from Dowie’s verbal attacks against Islam, and defeated him in a sensational face-off armed only with prayers. Most current residents may not have an inkling of that high-stakes holy fight of a bygone era. But, for the Ahmadis, it is one that has created an eternal bond with the city of Zion. Thousands of Ahmadi Muslims from around the world have congregated in the city to celebrate that century-old miracle and a significant milestone in the life of Zion and of their faith: The building of the city’s first mosque.”

The article also published a lot of historical information about Dowie.

It further stated, “Ahmadis believe that their founder, who was born in 1835, was the promised reformer the Prophet Muhammed predicted and the metaphorical second coming of Jesus Christ.”

Apart from this, the visit to Zion and the inauguration of the Fath-e-Azeem Mosque was given wide-scale coverage in Canada.

By the grace of Allah, the tour of Zion was covered by nine major newspapers, six online publications and one radio station.

The message of the Jamaat was conveyed to 871,000. Apart from the USA and Canada, the online newspapers of the UK, Greece, Sierra Leone, Taiwan, India, Hong Kong, Peru, the Philippines, South Africa, Tanzania and Vietnam also gave coverage.

The article published by the Associated Press, which is the American news agency that I mentioned earlier, was published in 200 newspapers in the USA and 176 online newspapers.

Apart from this, MTA Africa also provided live coverage of this function.

The addresses delivered in Zion and Dallas were aired live on the national TV of The Gambia, Sierra Leone and Senegal. This was viewed by hundreds of thousands of people.

They mentioned that 30 minutes prior to the event held for the inauguration of the Fathe-Azeem mosque, these studios went live on air and gave the historical context of the Prophecy of the Promised Messiahas about Alexander Dowie in their local languages.

Coverage was given throughout Africa through various news reports published on TV, radio and in newspapers. News reports were shown on five channels in Uganda and also on the TV channels of Ghana, Nigeria,

Liberia, Sierra Leone and Rwanda.

Amir Sahib of Sierra Leone writes that a friend he knew for the last 20 years had only done the bai‘at [pledge of allegiance] this year on the occasion of the Jalsa Salana UK. When he saw the programme in Zion, he said, “The night I did the bai‘at, I felt a deep sense of pity that it took me so long to do the bai‘at. However, if truth be told, the day I watched the programme about the mosque in Zion, I said to myself that if Amir Sahib had informed me about the incident related to Alexander Dowie earlier, then perhaps I would have done the bai‘at twenty years ago. I have never been as convinced by any other religious event as I have been by the prophecy about Zion. I have witnessed the biggest challenge of this era, most of all, this event took place under the full scrutiny of the Western media. Hazrat Imam Mahdias prophesied about the future in such a manner as if he were present when God revealed His decrees.” He further said, “In my view, when we preach to non-Ahmadis, we should certainly mention this prophecy because it is a very impressive prophecy and argument. The day I did bai‘at, that very night, I was satisfied that I had made the right decision. However, after learning about the prophecy about Zion, I breathed a sigh of relief and was convinced that my 20 years of search for the truth did not go in vain. I certainly took the right decision.”

Apart from this, there were various other activities, which included speaking to the ambassadors of Ghana and Sierra Leone in the mosque in Washington, Maryland and we discussed the conditions in their countries. The meeting went really well with them. There was also a meeting with the new converts. There were around 45 new converts who attended. I also told [the Jamaat] to search for the Ahmadis who had converted a long time ago and they managed to get in contact with a few of them. Those who recently accepted Ahmadiyyat have faced opposition as well, however, they have remained steadfast.

One of the new converts mentioned that when his family learnt of his bai‘at, they opposed him a lot and left him. Then, another Ahmadi from Bangladesh, stated, “the missionary spent a lot of time in order to explain things to me and did so with great patience. And now, I have understood.” He then very passionately said to the other new converts present, “now I have understood Islam Ahmadiyyat, and I am telling you that this is the true Islam, therefore, never move away from this.”

Another new convert, Christopher, who accepted Ahmadiyyat from Christianity, requested to do the bai‘at. And so, a bai‘at ceremony was also held and this had a very positive impact on everyone. Those who have been Ahmadi for some time and also many Ahmadis from Pakistan, who have recently arrived as refugees from various countries also had the opportunity to do the bai‘at and it was a very emotional moment for them.

In any case, Allah the Almighty bestowed His blessings in every respect and may Allah the Almighty continue to do so in the future as well.
