WHO IS THE ALEXANDRIA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA? Founded in 1943 as a volunteer orchestra, the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra (ASO) has become a professional institution, featuring world-renowned soloists, commissioning new works, and collaborating with other arts organizations. The 2018-2019 Season marks the ASO’s 75th Anniversary with celebratory events and the highly-anticipated introduction of its new Music Director.
WHO DOES THE ASO SERVE? The ASO will serve more than 40,000 people this year throughout the D.C. metro region with subscription concerts at two easily-accessible venues, a free outdoor pops concert at the Alexandria Birthday Celebration, and a special 75th Anniversary concert on the grounds of the Virginia Theological Seminary. Sympatico, ASO’s before- and after-school intensive music education program, serves 130+ students at John Adams Elementary School (ACPS) every school day, all free of charge.
