Alan Richardson, cello

A founding member of the awardwinning Aeolus Quartet, cellist Alan Richardson has performed in diverse venues across North America, Europe, and Asia. Mr. Richardson has been presented at concert series including Lincoln Center’s Great Performers, Chamber Music Society of Detroit, and Bargemusic, and at festivals including Bay Chamber Concerts, Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival, Rockport Music Festival, and Kneisel Hall.

He has performed alongside such artists as Renée Fleming, Peter Wiley, Ángel Romero, Joel Krosnick, Michael Tree, Sam Rhodes, Jon Kimura Parker, and the Miró, Juilliard, and American String Quartets. He regularly collaborates with the Mark Morris Dance Group, and serves as principal cellist of the New Orchestra of Washington. He has also been featured as principal cellist of the Artosphere Festival Orchestra, and has appeared as a frequent guest with the chamber orchestra A Far Cry. As a member of the Aeolus Quartet, Mr. Richardson has premiered new works by composers including Douglas Boyce, Missy Mazzoli, and Steven Snowden.

Mr. Richardson has served on the faculty at the Corcoran Chamber Music Institute, Austin Chamber Music Festival, Point Counterpoint, University of Maryland High School Music Academy, Chloe Trevor Music Academy, and the Intermountain Suzuki String Institute. He completed studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music, University of Texas at Austin, and the Juilliard School. His mentors included Joel Krosnick, Melissa Kraut, Richard Aaron, and Evelyn Elsing. He currently performs on a 2016 cello by Samuel Zygmuntowicz, generously on loan from the Five Partners Foundation.
