What is ASO Sympatico?
ASO Sympatico is a before and afterschool intensive music education program sponsored by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra in partnership with the Alexandria City Public Schools. Consisting of five ensemble-based learning groups at John Adams Elementary School, ASO Sympatico serves all our students with direct music instruction at no cost.
What is El Sistema?
El Sistema is the global movement of social action proven to change students’ lives through music. The program started in Venezuela and now serves under-privileged students in 70 cities across the United States.
The Impact of El Sistema
Students enrolled in El Sistema programs exhibit better performance on tasks of executive functions, higher levels of academic achievement, and higher rates of school attendance than students not involved in the program. Studies show that students score higher on standardized tests, receive higher grades in English and Language Arts, demonstrate stronger Math skills, and have 30% fewer absences from school than students not enrolled in an El Sistema program.

• Will serve 130 John Adams Students (10% of the student population)
HOW CAN I BE INVOLVED? Sponsor - Underwrite a student or an upcoming performance Volunteer - Lend a helping hand for our daily ensembles and at our concerts Recycle - Give unused instruments to our program to serve more students Visit - See the program in action during our ensemble learning time Hire - Have one of our student ensembles perform at your event or party
