Tree Analysis Eucalyptus Camaldulensis (River Red Gum)
Material
• Name Derived from the flower bud covered by cap or operculum (Eucalyptus). And Camaldulensis from a cultivated tree, located in the now Abandoned Monastery of the Camalduian Order in Tuscany.
• Composed of very narrow sapwood and heartwood, 40mm wide of a pale red to redish-brown colour. • A hard timber with an air density of 12% and moisture of around 900 km/m3.
• A Myrtle Common throughout Australia; except for South-Western Part of Western Australia, the Nullarbor Plain and Costal Fringe. With different varieties such as the Obtusa (West and North-west of the Murray-Darling Basin).
• Has a shrinkage of 8% percent tangentially and 4% Radially, not suitable for bending. Has a high resistance of surface checking when exposed to the weather.
• A cultural symbol of Australia and the Whittlesea LGA.
• Commonly Sort pieces include burls, which are used for turning, useful as a source of charcoal through firewood.
• The Biggest trees found in Australia’s Natural eco-system.
• Main Uses include Furniture, Civil and Building construction applications.
Autanomy • A Majestic Medium-size to tall tree, with a short, thick bole and large open-formed crown, with a height range between 20 to 45 meters; Trunk Diameter of up to 4 metres • Bark can be often powdery with grey scales at the base, or smooth with reddish grey patches; Leaves come in Greyish-Green or or Bluish Grey Colours. • They are slow in terms of growth, Can Range in age between 250-800 years old. • Can withstand long periods of flooding, beneficial for the tree’s maintenance. also tolerant of salt and wet feet. • Can be found in a ribbon-like distribution in open forest or flood plains, as well as on slopes in high country.

Fabrication Analysis Materials
Connection Techniques
Bamboo •The use of bamboo as a primary alternative to timber, promotes good acoustic thermal and temperature regulation; fire resistant due to the materials 15% water mass. • Releases as less as 15 kg/m3 of CO2, along with a carbon storage capacity of 250 kg/m3. • The Growth process of Bamboo is sustainably managed and protected by a third party certification with a regrowth rate of 50 to 80 years. Karri Hardwood • High resistance to bushfires, with a BAL rating between 12.5 and 10.
• Battens are connected using a combination of Dowel fixings and Dado Joints (Cladding), secured to the Main Frame via the dowel holes at 600 ctrs (x) by 200 ctrs (y), using 12G x 50-60mm Hardwood Screws.
• Has a Reasonably High to High strength Rating of S3 (seasoned) and SD2 (unseasoned). Very high shrinkage rating of 9.90% (Tangential)/4.30% (Radial)
• Main Structural Frame is assembled using Screws and is Strength Rated based on N1 to N2 Wind Class.
Case Studies Fabrication Technniques
• Offsite Fabrication reducing demand for labour and minimal Assembly. With manual methods combined with more automated methods, such as CNC Nailing.
1. Toronto Tree Tower:
• Cross-Laminated Modular Pre-Fabricated structure (Assembled around a central core upon foundations) fabricated off-site to achieve a high level of quality and emissions control. Comprising of 50 cm thick laminated panels.
2. Perenjori 2 Flatpack Housing, Western Australia

Design Thinking Precedents
Facade Sunshading - Grovensor Place, Sydney • Identical, but varied slightly in rotation to cater to the different angles of the sun thoughout the day.
Circualtion
• East and West Shades are Vertical to block light at a low angle.
Climate Towers, Eugowra House, NSW
• North shades are horizontal to cater the high sun.
• Clear visual link between different areas.
• Blades rotate along the quadrant of the tower. • A Gap between the Envelope and Shades allows for enough light to enter the building.
• Acts as a consistent path of vertical circulation between three levels. • Provides cross-ventilation.
Facade Composition - Odunpazari Modern Museum, Turkey • Negative/Positive composition • Linear layout of battens allows for a cosistent scheme.
Exterior
Shade (Facade) Gardens - Medibank House Melbourne • Natural Shading and thermal protection. • Visually Pleasing • Allows for internal Privacy.
Interior Galley Kitchen - Seidler House, Killara NSW • Clear visual hierarchy in Open plan living between services and living area. • Hidden from View.
