Inspired by Steve Reich’s Clapping Music, Trio for Three Sounds (2014)uses a similar concept of rhythmic displacement. The primary voice does not change from the initial rhythm and is the first to enter. The secondary voice moves forward by one eighth-note every three measure for four complete cycles, and the third voice moves backwards by one eighth-note every four measures for three cycles. This ultimately leads to all three voices landing on the primary rhythm simultaneously for the final portion of the piece.
