Sibilant Entreè (2012) is a song cycle for string quartet, harp, and solo tenor voice. All of the text is quotes from Albert Einstein and the title is an anagram for his name. The text for each movement is as follows:
I. “I have reached an age when if someone tells me to wear socks, I don’t have to.”
II. “The situation in my house is ghostlier than ever, icy, silence.”
III. “It would be a sad situation if the wrapper was better than the meat wrapped inside it.”
IV. “Science without religion is lame, religion without science is lame.”
V. “I like neither new clothes nor new kinds of food.”
VI. “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited, imagination encircles the world.”
All text used with the permission of the Princeton University Press. Premiered in November 2012 with soloist Westin Sorrell.
