“Dorchadas” (2014) is Gaelic for “darkness,” and the piece follows this translation. Many parts of the music are dominated by dark, rich, chords that ebb and flow in an attempt to disorient the listener. The chords are contrasted by a simple melodic line, a light and haunting melody. The darkness throughout the work is presented in differing depths and stabilities.
