CASCADE CONNECTION INFILL
TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA
3RD year
CONCEPT STATEMENT :
DISPLAYING BLACK UNITY WITHIN FORCED BLACK ISOLATION WHILE USING REFERENCES FROM THE ALLEN SUBDIVISION AND THEIR COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.
The overall design is inspired by the way this community overcame economic and racial disparities through opening home-based businesses, community empowerment; strengthening themselves from within.
The canvased and wooden slat facades, which can be abstractly interpreted as protest signs, has a direct correlation to the expression of resistance to racism through protests during the civil rights movement. The building layout implicates how different aspects, together create a unified front. This multi-functional urban infill is an ode to the perseverance of the Allen community through racial discrimination in the peak of its existence in the civil rights era.

SITE PLAN 1” = 60’0”
Surrounding the sight, there are a number of hot spots. To the South is a local brewery. To the West is Lucky Goat, Oh Lemonade, FAMU Way, and more local businesses. To the North is Cascades trail and a skate park. To the East is a new retail strip. How do we engage each side?

UPROOTED RESIDENTIAL MID-RISE
Bishan, Singapore
4th year
CONCEPT STATEMENT :
The intentions of this project are to create spaces for vertical farming in Singapore amidst high population density, hot-humid climates, and combat the reliance on food importation.
The shape of my building is inspired by the trunk of a tree and the characteristics of a tree. The facade acts as a protection from external factors (i.e. sun, humidity, mosquitoes), and can be used to direct the flow of rain water to harvest for building use.
The second inner most layer is where most activity happens, similar to the sapwood layer. The core simply supports all other functions, like circulation. Step floors allow for all balconies to receive sun as Singapore’s sun is directly on top.

LAKE ANDREW RESEARCH FACILITY
Leon county, FLORIDA
3RD year
CONCEPT STATEMENT :
The overall conceptual focus is integrating the existing natural environment with the building in a way that has minimal obstruction on what is already there and frame views throughout the site. This is a mass timber project.
Throughout each building, there are several opportunities to engage with and appreciate nature from ground level to rooftop. Because this is a mass timber structure, I used several vertical columns at different scales and sizes to allude to the trees found in this area, elevating them from a structural element to an aesthetic preference.

BALI, INDONESIA KIOSK
2nd year
CONCEPT STATEMENT :
For this kiosk traditional design elements and nature found in this location were used to create an interactive kiosk that would attract travelers to go.
Inspired by the Pura temples, which can serve as either a religious and cultural building, I used this defining shape to acts as columns. Many tourist attractions were thought about in terms of the swings, waterfall system, and bamboo.
The entire model was creating from scratch using revit family tools.
