Si tratta di una villa appartenuta alla famiglia

russa Demidoff (Nicola Demidoff è stato ambasciatore dello Zar Alessandro I) ed è uno dei più belli edifici ottocenteschi fiorentini.

Nikolaj Nikitic Demidoff (Demidov), lasciò Mosca e con la sua famiglia si trasferì a Firenze per motivi di salute.

A Firenze Nikolaj decise di porre la propria residenza presso San Donato (nell’attuale quartiere di Novoli). Allora, questa parte della città era un’area paludosa, ma il ricco

Demidoff non si scoraggiò; infatti, acquistò i terreni intorno alla chiesa di San Donato in Polverosa (chiesa tutt’oggi esistente) ed iniziò la bonifica della zona.

Gravemente danneggiata durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale, l'antico edificio andò incontro a un consistente degrado.

Tuttavia, a partire dal 2012, l'edificio è stato oggetto di un importante intervento di restauro al fine di ricavare appartamenti di uso abitativo.

VILLA DEMIDOFF

It is a villa belonging to the Russian Demidoff family (Nicola Demidoff was an ambassador of Tsar Alexander I) and is one of Florence's most beautiful nineteenth-century buildings. Nikolaj Nikitic Demidoff (Demidov), left Moscow and moved with his family to Florence for health reasons.

In Florence, Nikolaj decided to reside near San Donato (in the current Novoli district). Back then, this part of the city was a swampy area, but the wealthy Demidoff was not discouraged; in fact, he purchased the land around the church of San Donato in Polverosa (a church that still exists today) and began the reclamation of the area.

Severely damaged during the Second World War, the ancient building underwent significant degradation.

However, since 2012, the building has undergone a major restoration project to create apartments for residential use.
