Babak Amini

The theme of this issue is “The Art of Mindful Living,” exploring the practices and habits that help us navigate the chaos of modern professional life, offering a sanctuary of peace and balance. In this spirit, we delve into the journey of Anousha , who rediscovered her true self through mindfulness. From a young age, Anousha felt the pressure to conform to societal expectations, but through meditation and self-awareness, she reclaimed her joy and authenticity. Her story exemplifies how mindful living can restore inner harmony, allowing us to live more fully and authentically.

the return of the CAT.

Actor, Author, & Mindfulness Coach

“I’ve discovered that life is about allowing and accepting, rather than conforming and resisting.”

A Mindful Journey to REDISCOVERING My True Self

a childhood epiphany in a fluffy suit.

When I was six, my kindergarten class put on a lively farm animal show. Each child was assigned a different role—some were dogs, chickens, or sheep. I was cast as a cat, and for two weeks, we practiced our lines. I still remember the excitement of wearing that fluffy black suit, whiskers drawn on my face, and taking the stage to recite a poem as the cat. A little girl, playing the farm owner, introduced us, and I couldn’t wait for my parents to see me perform.

The big day came, and we delivered a successful performance. But backstage, my excitement was dampened. My mother knelt down to my level and asked, “Why didn’t you get a bigger role like the farm owner? She had more lines, and you have such a beautiful voice. Why didn’t you ask for that role instead of just being a cat?” Her words, though meant with love, left a lasting impact. I learned that to be accepted, I needed to align with others’ expectations—my parents, teachers, and society at large. a journey of conformity.

For the next 14 years, I lived according to those expectations. I excelled in various fields—violin, tennis, acting workshops, academics—but on the eve of my 20th birthday, I realized that despite my successes, I hadn’t found the joy I felt as that six-year-old cat. Growing up in Iranian culture, with all its beauty and complexities, added another layer of challenge. We are surrounded by poetry, vibrant stories, and rich traditions, yet there is also a deep-seated fear—one that pushes many towards stable, conventional careers in fields like medicine or engineering. This cultural pressure often leads us to abandon our true desires and follow a path dictated by others’ visions. I had been living through the lens of others, and I wasn’t truly happy.

“By quieting my mind, I’ve been able to follow a path that truly aligns with who I am.”

embracing my true self.

At 20, I reached a turning point. No matter how many times I changed locations or identities, something was missing. That’s when I turned to mindfulness. I began to quiet the conditioned voice in my head, influenced by culture, religion, and fear, and started to reconnect with my authentic self. My journey into mindfulness began with a $400 spiritual retreat, a significant investment for me at the time, but one that marked the start of a profound transformation. I’ve learned that the way we perceive the world shapes our reality. With 8 billion people on this planet, there are 8 billion different realities, each formed by individual experiences. By shifting away from judgment and embracing observation and acceptance, I’ve discovered that life is about allowing and accepting, rather than conforming and resisting.

a decade of transformation.

Over the past decade, I’ve cultivated the tools to manage emotions, regulate myself, and stay true to my authentic heart. Meditation and mindfulness have empowered me to discern whether I’m following my intuition or the world’s perception of me. By quieting my mind, I’ve been able to follow a path that truly aligns with who I am, embracing “The Art of Mindful Living” as a guiding principle. the cat returns.

During a recent show in New York, I felt an overwhelming sense of reconnection with my true self—the cat had returned. Stronger and more confident, I embraced the joy and authenticity I had long been missing. This journey of rediscovering my true self has been challenging but incredibly rewarding, allowing me to live in alignment with my heart and intuition, embodying the essence of mindful living.

On The Cover

For this issue’s cover, we are excited to feature the stunning Anousha, an Iranian-American actor, author, and mindfulness coach. The theme of this edition, “The Art of Mindful Living,” explores the habits and practices that foster peace and balance amid the demands of modern professional life. Anousha’s personal journey of rediscovery through mindfulness beautifully embodies this message. In the cover image, she is shown embracing rocks that symbolize harmony, balance, and stability—reflecting how mindfulness helps restore equilibrium and calm, even in the busiest of lives.

The Babak Amini Concert Signature Guitar,

A Collaborative Journey in Craftsmanship and Musical Tradition

The Babak Amini Concert Signature Guitar Series “FARVAHAR” by Felipe Conde represents a unique partnership between Felipe Conde Sr., a third-generation Spanish luthier, and Babak Amini, a distinguished Persian-Canadian guitarist and composer. This collaboration emerged from a shared vision: to create an instrument that blends the rich heritage of Spanish guitar-making with Amini’s extensive musical background, spanning Persian music, jazz, and flamenco. Through their shared commitment to craftsmanship and personal values, the Farvahar guitar was born.

THE CONDE FAMILY LEGACY

Over a Century of Excellence

Since 1915, when Domingo Esteso founded his workshop, the Esteso and later Conde family have become synonymous with fine guitar-making. Esteso quickly gained international recognition for crafting guitars of exceptional beauty and sound. His nephews, including Mariano Conde Sr., carried the family’s legacy forward, further refining their craftsmanship. Felipe Conde, a third-generation luthier, continues this tradition in his workshop, having passed on his knowledge to his children.

Felipe Conde’s guitars have been played by some of the world’s most renowned musicians, from flamenco giants like Paco de Lucía to contemporary artists like Al Di Meola, Jesse Cook, and Babak Amini. In Leonard Cohen’s Prince of Asturias Award speech, Cohen reflected on the profound connection he felt to his Conde guitar, a testament to the lasting bond that the Conde family has always aimed to foster with each instrument they create.

FELIPE CONDE

A Third-Generation Luthier

As a third-generation luthier, Felipe Conde has devoted his life to the art of guitar-making. Since 1971, at the age of 14, Felipe was trained by his father, Mariano, and his uncle, Faustino Conde. From them, he learned the importance of precision, passion, and innovation within tradition. In 2010, he founded his own workshop with his children, Maria and Felipe Jr., continuing the family tradition while integrating modern techniques into their craft. Although his daughter María has since stepped away from guitar building, his son, Felipe Conde Jr., now independently builds guitars under his own brand.

The Babak Amini Concert Signature Guitar “FARVAHAR” is more than just an instrument; it forges a lasting connection between Spanish and Persian music, while embracing the diverse musical traditions Amini has explored throughout his career.

THE “FARVAHAR” GUITAR

A Cultural and Personal Collaboration

The Babak Amini Concert Signature Guitar “FARVAHAR” was conceived during conversations between Felipe Conde and Babak Amini, a musician whose career spans multiple genres, from Persian music to flamenco and jazz. Amini’s global perspective and extensive career, which includes collaborations with prominent musicians and orchestras, made him the perfect partner for this

project. Together, Conde and Amini envisioned a guitar that would represent a cross-cultural exchange between Spain and Persia while re lecting their mutual values and dedication to excellence. The Babak Amini Concert Signature Guitar “FARVAHAR” embodies these ideals, offering musicians a blend of tradition, innovation, and personal artistic expression.

DESIGN

& CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE

OF the BABAK AMINI Concert Signature Guitar “FARVAHAR”

At the heart of The Babak Amini Concert Signature Guitar “FARVAHAR” is the Farvahar symbol, an iconic representation of moral integrity and the soul’s journey in Persian culture. This symbol was thoughtfully integrated into the guitar’s design, symbolizing the cross-cultural exchange and shared personal values between Amini and Conde. The design also honors the artistry of Spanish guitar-making, merging it with Persian visual and musical traditions.

CRAFTSMANSHIP & MATERIALS

The Babak Amini Concert Signature Guitar “FARVAHAR” is meticulously crafted using premium materials to achieve unmatched sound and playability. The top is made from German Spruce, renowned for its clarity and resonance, while the back and sides are crafted from Spanish Cypress, known for producing warm, balanced tones. The neck, made from Honduran Cedar with a carbon stripe for stability, ensures long-lasting strength. Ebony is used for the fretboard, providing both durability and precision.

The guitar features the signature Conde Medialuna headstock design, while Scheller tuners, selected by Amini, provide flawless tuning stability. The rosette design, inspired by the historical “La Cumbre” motif, pays tribute to Antonio de Torres, the father of the modern guitar. These elements, combined with the time-honored techniques passed down through generations, create a guitar that balances tradition and modernity.

INNOVATIVE FEATURES

While rooted in tradition, the Babak Amini Concert Signature Guitar “FARVAHAR” incorporates several innovative features. It includes a BARBERA flamenco pickup system, ensuring the guitar’s natural sound is preserved in live settings. A soundport on the upper side allows the player to receive immediate acoustic feedback, improving control during performances. The guitar’s custom measurements, ideated by Amini, and its responsive nature make it comfortable for extended performances and adaptable across a range of genres.

CUSTOMIZATION AND PLAYABILITY

The Babak Amini Concert Signature Guitar “FARVAHAR” is designed to meet the specific needs of professional musicians, offering both exceptional playability and versatility. The instrument’s responsive nature and balanced tone allow it to excel across a variety of musical styles, making it an ideal choice for musicians who are as diverse and multifaceted as Babak himself. Every detail of the guitar, from its construction to its aesthetic design, has been carefully considered to create an instrument that is not only functional but also a work of art.

CERTIFICATE OF

AUTHENTICITY

Each “FARVAHAR” guitar comes with a unique serial number and a certificate of authenticity, signed and sealed by Felipe Conde. This certificate verifies the instrument’s provenance and attests to the craftsmanship behind its creation. The inclusion of both Babak’s and Felipe’s signatures on the label inside the guitar further underscores the personal nature of this project and the deep connection between the musician and the luthier.

The Babak Amini Concert Signature Guitar “FARVAHAR” stands as a symbol of cultural fusion, artistic collaboration, and mutual respect.

CULTURAL AND MUSICAL SIGNIFICANCE

The Babak Amini Concert Signature Guitar “FARVAHAR”stands as a symbol of cultural fusion, artistic collaboration, and mutual respect. By combining the traditions of Spanish guitar-making with Babak Amini’s diverse musical background, this instrument transcends its physical form, becoming a meeting point between different worlds, sounds, and cultures. It reflects the shared commitment of both Amini and Conde to honoring the past while embracing new ideas and pushing the boundaries of what a guitar can be.

This collaboration is not just about creating an instrument but about forging a lasting connection between Spanish and Persian music, as well as the various other musical traditions that Amini

has explored throughout his career. The Farvahar guitar offers musicians a tool rich in both history and sound, allowing them to express themselves fully and authentically.

The creation of the “FARVAHAR” guitar represents a continuation of the Conde family’s long-standing tradition of excellence in guitar-making, deeply rooted in collaboration with the finest guitarists of the time. The instrument embodies everything Felipe Conde has learned as a luthier: craftsmanship, innovation, and the power of collaboration. The Farvahar guitar stands as a testament to what can be achieved when tradition and innovation come together, offering musicians a unique blend of artistry, cultural significance, and musical versatility.

The event brought together athletes from diverse backgrounds, including former Whitecaps goalkeeper David Ousted, football academy owner and BC’s all-time top goal scorer Farivar Torabi, bodybuilder and nutritionist Amitis Nate, international Zumba instructor Shima Arbab, rehab specialist Goli Cramer, Zumba instructor Asal Nikoopour, yoga instructor Samaneh Asgharzadeh, and fitness trainer and rehab specialist Elika Fallahi.

But the athletes didn’t just experience the physical power of EMSculpt Neo—they also had a mental challenge in store. PEJMAN WATCHES

Honoring PERSIAN PRIDE

PEJMAN HERITAGE, SOPHISTICATION, and OPULENCE.

History and Heritage through

In a world where the richness of history and culture can often be overlooked, it is crucial to recognize and honor those who have made significant contributions to preserving and advancing their heritage. The Royal Family of Iran, from its earliest generations to the present, has played a pivotal role in both modernizing society and safeguarding its valuable traditions. Among these remarkable figures, Shahbanou Farah Pahlavi and Reza Shah the Great stand out for their profound impact on Iranian culture. Shahbanou Farah Pahlavi’s dedication to the arts and cultural preservation, combined with Reza Shah’s transformative efforts in developing Iran, set a powerful precedent for celebrating Persian heritage. Inspired by these influential leaders, Pejman Pirmoradi embarked on a journey to address the cultural neglect he perceived, creating unique timepieces to honor and bridge the gap in Iran’s rich legacy.

Bridging

The reverse side of many coins featured the traditional Lion and Sun emblem, a symbol of Iran that dates back centuries and represents strength, courage, and the connection between the monarchy and the divine.

H.I.M REZA SHAH watch
LION AND SUN EMBLEM

THE JOURNEY.

Pejman Pirmoradi, an Iranian-American pharmaceutical scientist, was born and raised in Ghazvin, Iran. He earned a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from Melli University and, after immigrating to the United States, pursued advanced studies in pharmacotherapy and geriatric pharmacy.

THE VOID AND THE VISION.

Despite achieving notable success in his professional career, Pejman felt a profound void due to the lack of information, appreciation, and honoring of Iran’s rich culture. This sense of loss was both a personal and cultural responsibility, as he observed the fading recognition of his homeland’s history, influenced by neglect and purposeful distortion. Pejman was deeply troubled by the erasure of the contributions of past dynasties and individuals who had once made Iran a proud nation. Recognizing this cultural amnesia, he sought to preserve and celebrate Iran’s heritage, understanding its importance for national pride and continuity. Pejman aimed to address this gap, ensuring that the rich cultural tapestry of Iran would once again be recognized and cherished.

DEFINING PHILOSOPHIES.

A pivotal moment in Pejman’s journey came in 2018 after he listened to inspirational speeches by Jim Rohn. These speeches were instrumental in shaping Pejman’s guiding philosophies, which have since directed his personal and professional endeavors.

The first philosophy is legacy. Pejman understood the profound significance of making a positive impact on the world. He realized that life is fleeting and that to leave a meaningful mark, he needed to actively contribute to somethsing greater than himself. This philosophy drove him to seek out ways to honor and preserve his heritage, ensuring that his actions would create a lasting impact.

For Pejman, this meant dedicating himself to projects that would celebrate and revitalize Iranian culture, aiming to leave a legacy that future generations could appreciate and build upon.

The second philosophy is combating the disease of indifference. Pejman was deeply moved by the idea that indifference can be a significant barrier to personal and societal growth. He believed that by actively engaging in self-reflection and personal growth, individuals could overcome apathy and make meaningful contributions to the world. This philosophy motivated Pejman to challenge the status quo and to actively address the cultural neglect and distortion he saw in Iranian heritage. He sought to inspire others to care deeply about their own cultural legacies and to take action against the erosion of their historical identities.

The third philosophy is overcoming the fear of regret. Pejman recognized that fear of failure or discomfort often prevents people from pursuing their true passions. For him, this meant confronting and overcoming his own fears about stepping out of his comfort zone. He understood that in order to showcase the richness of Persian history and culture, he had to be willing to take risks and face potential setbacks. This philosophy encouraged him to embark on projects that might seem challenging or unconventional but were essential for achieving his goal of cultural preservation and appreciation.

Together, these philosophies—legacy, combating indifference, and overcoming fear—provided Pejman with a clear direction and purpose. They guided him in his mission to bridge the cultural gap he felt, driving him to make impactful contributions and to inspire a renewed appreciation for Iran’s rich heritage.

The realization of this dream would not have been possible for him without the steadfast support of his wife, Hengameh Khosravi, throughout the entire process.

H.I.M REZA SHAH watch

INSPIRED BY SHAHBANOU FARAH PAHLAVI.

Shahbanou Farah Pahlavi, the Empress of Iran, made significant contributions to Iranian art and culture. She founded the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art and the Carpet Museum of Iran, supported cultural festivals, and was involved in the establishment of the National Iranian Radio and Television (NIRT). Her efforts to restore historical sites and support artists and education played a key role in modernizing and preserving Iranian culture.

The idea of creating watches was inspired by Shahbanou Farah Pahlavi. Her efforts to promote intercultural dialogue motivated Pejman to develop unique, limited-edition watches that celebrate ancient civilizations and contemporary history.

CRAFTING TIMEPIECES WITH HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE.

With a keen eye for design, Pejman began crafting timepieces that highlight major ancient civilizations and the Pahlavi Dynasty. The first watch in his collection, the H.I.M Farah, honors Shahbanou Farah Pahlavi. It features 12 round-cut diamonds, ancient Persian numerals, and motifs of Shahbanou’s crown and the Imperial Arms, symbolizing purity and divine grace. This first timepiece was granted to Shahbanou Farah Pahlavi herself.

HONORING REZA SHAH THE GREAT.

Reza Shah the Great, founder of the Pahlavi dynasty, made substantial contributions to Iran’s modernization in the early 20th century, from building extensive infrastructure to reforming education and industry. Pejman designed a second watch to honor Reza Shah the Great, featuring his crown, Old Persian numerals, and the lion and sun emblem. Available in six colors and 12 styles, this timepiece celebrates his legacy with elegance and historical significance.

A BEACON OF HOPE AND DEDICATION.

In a world where history can easily fade into obscurity, Pejman Pirmoradi stands as a beacon of hope and dedication. His timepieces are not merely watches but are intricately crafted pieces of history, art, and culture. Through his work, Pejman invites us to celebrate and appreciate the timeless legacy of Persian heritage, ensuring that the beauty and richness of Iran’s cultural past remain alive and cherished.

Audemars Piguet Heritage Collection, Inv. 1120. The 1970s were an explosive and experimental time for watch design. This unique mechanical masterpiece from 1970 is a highly creative bracelet Watch comprised of an 18-carat white gold frame adorned with textured hand-carved green grossular garnet diamondset segments. The green dial and diamond-set hands complete the design. This watch was the winner of the prestigious Golden Rose of Baden-Baden in 1971.

A LEGACY OF HIGH-JEWELLERY TIMEPIECES

Audemars Piguet is the oldest fine watchmaking manufacturer still in the hands of its founding families (Audemars and Piguet). Based in Le Brassus since 1875, the company has nurtured generations of talented craftspeople who have continuously developed new skills and techniques, broadening their savoir-faire to set rule-breaking trends. In the Vallée de Joux, at the heart of the Swiss Jura, Audemars Piguet has created numerous masterpieces, testament to the Manufacture’s ancestral savoir-faire and forward-thinking spirit. By pushing the boundaries of what is possible and building bridges between different creative worlds, Audemars Piguet has been able to explore new horizons and build an inspired community.

Since its inception, Audemars Piguet has collaborated with several prestigious jewellery brands, including Tiffany, Cartier, Oscar Heyman and Bvlgari to case its movements in unique Haute Joaillerie creations. From the late 19th century until the 1970s, the Manufacture often sold the movement and dial to the jeweller who took care of the external design of the watch and signed it before selling it through their network. Diamonds and coloured gemstones, such as rubies, emeralds and sapphires were frequently used to embellish women’s creations. Over time, gemstones were incorporated into a wide variety of designs.

Art Deco watches made by Audemars Piguet during the 1920s are recognised by jewellery and watch collectors for their stellar workmanship and bold, creative designs as watches for women during this era were made to be admired. Referred to as Tutti Frutti, this highly imaginative and expressive timepiece is comprised of hand-carved multi-coloured gem stones and incorporates the smallest movement the Manufacture has ever produced. This beautiful and unique piece by Audemars Piguet was made in partnership with the Parisian jeweller, Egouvillon Lafon & Cie Paris.

TUTTI FRUTTI HAUTE JOAILLERIE 1927

The 1960s and 1970s saw the development of creative watches enriched with natural stone dials, including tiger’s eye, lapis lazuli, aventurine, grossular garnet, opal, onyx, ruby, amethyst and japser, to name but a few. These colourful dials were sometimes combined with other gemstones featured on the case and bracelet.

In the 1980s, the growing trend for watches with welded bracelets led Audemars Piguet to open its own jewellery workshop, run by a handful of experts. Although the brand continued to work closely with external jewellers, more and more of its gemset timepieces were created in-house. In the decades that followed, the Manufacture created expressive, one-of-a-kind jewellery watches, often accompanied by matching jewellery sets. These unique creations led to the development of Audemars Piguet’s Haute Joaillerie collection in 2013. With distinctive pieces such as the Diamond Trilogy (2015–2017) and the Sapphire Orbe (2019), this collection broke with traditional notions of gemset watches.

Far from being confined to these one-off Haute Joaillerie creations, gemsetting now permeates Audemars Piguet’s collections. While some timepieces feature a bezel set with diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires, amethysts or rainbow-coloured gems, to name but a few, others are entirely paved with diamonds or coloured stones, culminating in the launch of the Royal Oak Selfwinding Rainbow Sets in 2022. The two sets, available in 37 and 41 mm, are composed of ten white gold timepieces, each set with a different baguette-cut coloured gemstone to form a rainbow when placed side by side. Each watch contains some 800 stones of the exact same hue, all meticulously selected and custom cut to produce intense and pure colours.

Building on the Manufacture’s long heritage of high-jewellery watches, the two new camouflage Royal Oak Selfwinding timepieces continue to combine age-old techniques with ever more contemporary design, taking the art of gemsetting and watchmaking to new heights.

Taking Real Estate Marketing to an Entirely NEW LEVEL

Over the past 13 years, Derek Grech transitioned from corporate business to real estate with a dream of opening his own boutique real estate firm. He envisioned a place where strategic individuals, or ‘Partners,’ with strong business backgrounds who would truly collaborate to elevate each other and their clients. This dream has become a reality as Derek’s creative marketing approach has set him apart blending corporate thinking with real estate.

When asked about the creativity behind his UNIQUE REAL ESTATE SUCCESS story that lead to founding THE PARTNERS Real Estate, Derek grins as he recalls overcoming marketing challenges while leading McDonald’s Marketing Department in 2002. During the release of the blockbuster “ SUPERSIZED” in 2004, Derek faced the tough task of convincing leadership to offer healthier options like salads to avoid government health warnings on French Fry packaging. After holding senior leadership positions in top advertising agencies, Derek decided in 2010 to channel his passion, creativity, and work ethic into real estate. Now, after 13 years of incredible success, including record-breaking sales in almost every category in 2021, 2022, and 2023, in the last 12 months, Grech, Malek, and The Partners have delivered incredibly dramatic sales, making The Partners Real Estate truly the talking point in Real Estate in Greater Vancouver.

Grech saw a gap in the true idea of marketing homes, focusing on targeted strategies rather than relying solely on MLS. This approach has driven his success and led to the launch of his new firm, The Partners Real Estate which has sold 284 Million in the last 12 months with just recently selling the most expensive home in West Vancouver off the water for over $18 Million.

Being a strategic asset in real estate transactions is crucial, and Sogol has excelled at this incredibly for the past 5 years — closing over $100 million in deals. Her success stems from building strong relationships, understanding local zoning laws and market trends, turning each transaction into memorable experiences for her clients. Sogol’s AUTHENTICITY and METICULOUS ATTENTION to detail, has made her recent transition to The Partners a perfect fit. A leader at the office with her strong personality, her leadership role also extends to her own personal home as she’s a devoted mother of 10 year old twins, as she juggles the idea of being a mother and business leader seamless. Grech loves that Sogol is relentless as he smiles at her often as her fight and always wanting her clients to be overly success in every transaction is her mandate always. Her very rapid success in real estate speaks for itself and her partnership is infectious.

For Sara Saadatfard, art is more than a creative pursuit—it is a profound means of experiencing the world and a pathway to self-discovery. Through her paintings, she delves into the depths of memory, exploring how our past shapes who we are. Her works are storytellers, weaving narratives from distant and fading memories, each brushstroke a testament to her journey.

“Our experiences are not merely moments in time; they are living entities, existing precisely where we last left them,” Sara explains. To her, these memories, untouchable and immutable, form the essence of our

being. “To alter them would be to lose a part of ourselves,” she adds. For Sara, the connection to the past is a delicate thread woven from memories that continually influence our present. She views history as the manifestation of these memories, aligning with philosopher Paul Ricoeur’s idea that memory is split into individual and collective forms, both serving to represent the past. Yet, Sara recognizes that parts of the past remain elusive, obscured by the natural erosion of memory. “Memory is the custodian of time’s depth and distance, forever at odds with the forces of forgetfulness,” she says.

Sara Saadatfard’s Journey Through Paint
Visual Artist — Painter

“Our experiences are not merely moments in time; they are living entities, existing precisely where we last left them.”

Sara sees memory as a crucial element of a nation’s collective consciousness. For her, painting is a gateway to both her personal identity and the era in which she has lived. Although the human mind struggles to see the past with clarity, memories, much like a demanding artist, resist being captured in a single, unchanging form. “Every time I revisit a memory, it presents itself anew,” she notes. The way she represents these memories in her art is deeply influenced by her emotional state during the creative process. Her paintings are subjective, never exact, and they offer glimpses into a past, present, and future that she continues to explore and understand.

In Sara’s paintings, women subtly emerge and retreat among flowers, symbolizing the search for something lost—perhaps meaning itself—hidden within a world that is both beautiful and deceptive. The repetition of elements and colors in her work draws inspiration from Persian painting, imbuing her art with a distinctively Iranian character. “The ability to understand how form and color work together and connect to the universe is a special gift, almost like having the power to predict the future.”

Sara Saadatfard paints because it is the truest expression of her existence in this world. Through her art, she continues to explore the complexities of memory and identity, inviting others to join her on this journey.

FARNO REZAEI

Educational Course Designer and Entrepreneur Specializing in Etiquette and Empowerment.

Pioneering the Persian School of Etiquette (FARSSE)

Farno Rezaei is more than just a name in the realm of etiquette; she is a visionary who has carved a unique path in empowering women and children through education. Her journey began with the creation of the Farsse.co on Instagram and other social media platforms, where she quickly garnered a dedicated following. What started as a general etiquette course soon evolved into a specialized focus on women’s empowerment, highlighting Farno’s deep commitment to making a difference.

Her story is rooted in Iran, where she studied Graphic Design and established her own advertising company. Notably, Farno operated Tehran’s first advertising and industrial photography studio exclusively staffed by women, a bold move that underscored her trailblazing spirit. Her success in Iran laid the foundation for her next chapter, one that took her to Istanbul, Turkey, in 2014

Embracing New Horizons

In Istanbul, Farno didn’t just continue her work; she expanded it. Transitioning into mobile application design, she also pursued her passion for music, releasing an album along the way. However, it was her lifelong love of learning that truly shaped her next steps. Always an avid reader, Farno delved into various educational courses for personal growth, with one in particular capturing her imagination—etiquette. Completing several online courses from Canada and the UK, she achieved a master’s level in the field, transforming her passion into expertise. Farno began sharing her knowledge freely with women through short educational content, driven by the belief that etiquette could be a powerful tool for empowerment.

Contributing to an International Etiquette Compendium

Farno’s influence soon extended beyond her social media presence. The global success of her Persian page connected her with etiquette coaches worldwide, leading to an invitation to contribute to an international etiquette book. Tasked with authoring the section on Iranian culture and etiquette, Farno embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm. This collaboration culminated in a remarkable book, published by an English publisher after four years of effort, that explores etiquette from cultures across the globe. Covering regions from Africa to Europe, Australia to China, this compendium serves as a vital resource for international company managers, tourists, and anyone navigating new cultural landscapes.

For Farno, this book was more than just a professional achievement; it was a deeply personal triumph. Through her contributions, she sought to correct misconceptions about Iran, its language, and its people. In her travels, she encountered individuals who were unaware of Iran’s location or mistakenly believed that Iranians spoke Arabic. This book became a bridge, introducing the richness of Iranian culture to the world and showcasing the country’s proud heritage.

Today, Farno continues to channel her creative energy into new projects. She is currently working on a captivating initiative focused on Persian literature and children’s education, promising to share more with her audience soon.

The Importance and Origins of Etiquette

Etiquette, a subject close to Farno’s heart, has deep historical roots that extend beyond mere social niceties. The term entered the English language from French around 1750, and between 1500 and 1900, European schools taught social rules and customs to children, including the proper arrangement of plates, cutlery, and glasses. These traditions flourished, particularly in English and French cultures, and spread globally, becoming a universal language that facilitated smoother interactions between different societies.

The Influence of Timurtash on Iranian Etiquette

Iran’s embrace of etiquette can be traced back to Timurtash, the Minister of Court during the Pahlavi era. Educated in Russia and influenced by French customs, Timurtash introduced these refined manners to the Iranian court. He designed suits for court members and employees, educated them on royal and diplomatic etiquette, and played a crucial role in international negotiations, even handling delicate oil negotiations on behalf of Iran.

Timurtash’s influence extended to Crown Prince Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, whom he accompanied on his educational journey to Switzerland in 1931. Mohammad Reza Pahlavi’s impeccable manners became well-known, and his future wife, Queen Farah Pahlavi, further solidified this legacy by attending an etiquette school in France before their marriage. Her elegance, both in behavior and style, continues to be celebrated in photographs from that era to this day.

The Continued Success of FARSSE

Against this rich historical backdrop, it’s easy to see why Farsse. co resonated so strongly with its audience. For women seeking elegance in both behavior and style, and for men who appreciate the value of refined manners, Farno’s school offers an accessible path to self-improvement. For Iranian immigrants, especially, mastering etiquette is essential for successfully integrating into leading societies and the job market. Fortunately, Farno’s etiquette training courses provide a convenient, Persian-language education that equips them with the skills they need to navigate their new communities confidently.

In January 2021, Farsse.co was registered in New York as a corporation with one million shares, with the future vision of

becoming a college open to all. The goal is to provide educational courses in various fields taught by experts, allowing those interested in personal growth and art to learn while also becoming part of the company. The content and teachings will remain updated and expand for future generations. Farno’s vision for establishing a public company was to promote the Persian language, culture, and civilization while adapting to the modern world, ensuring that we carry the benefits of the past with us as we move forward.

Through her work, Farno Rezaei is not just teaching etiquette; she is empowering individuals to embrace their cultural heritage while confidently stepping into the future. Her legacy is one of elegance, empowerment, and enduring impact.

Where every corner tells a story!

Montreal is a city bursting with flavour, one where history seeps from the pores of its ancient stone buildings. Its vibrant cultural life is always in celebration, through festivals, music, dance and theatre. And its food scene is spectacular, whether you hunger for poutine, smoked meat, buttery croissants or a bagel with lox. With its strong French influence, this sophisticated city is charmingly seductive, and so vastly different from Vancouver that it feels like an entirely different country. And with new, daily direct flights from Vancouver, it’s an easy four-and-a-half-hour commute, making it a perfect destination for a long weekend.

There’s so much to do in Montreal, it’s hard to know where to begin. We selected our top highlights for novel ways to experience the city and explore its radiant personality in just three nights.

Bike the Boulevards

Walking tours can get stale pretty quickly, but a bike tour is physically exhilarating, fast-paced and fits in many more sights and landmarks. We joined Fitz Montreal on a 15-kilometer pedal through Montreal’s green alleyways, busy boulevards and along the Lachine Canal. The three-hour tour delivers a broad overview of Montreal’s history, with some great views of street murals, residential neighbourhoods and Old Montreal. We followed the Lachine canal past factories and warehouses reincarnated into swanky apartments, saw the strong currents of the Saint Lawrence River at the Port, puffed up the hill to the base of Mount Royal and zipped back down past the austere, stone buildings of McGill University. (fitzmontreal.com)

Don’t Miss: The statue of the Two Snobs at Place d’Armes. On one side a Francophone woman holds her poodle, looking with contempt at the head office of the Bank of Montreal, a symbol of English power. On the other, an Anglophone holds his pug, looking with similar disdain at the Notre-Dame Basilica, a symbol of the Catholic Church in Quebec. The Two Snobs delivers a comedic stab at the enduring, simmering tensions between English and French in Montreal.

Bagels & More

Montrealers take their bagels seriously and everyone has their preference for one of two classic bagel makers - St-Viateur or Fairmount. On the Beyond the Bagel tour you get to try both, along with other gastronomic treats like babka, cheese crowns and smoked meat. This three-hour walking tour delivers a fascinating glimpse into the Jewish history of Montreal, from its small shop owners to celebrity singer, songwriter and poet Leonard Cohen, whose grey-stoned house just off Boulevard Saint Laurent is one of the stops. The grand finale of the tour is Schwartz’s Deli, a charcuterie that dates back to 1928 and has a well-earned reputation for its unforgettable, bulging, smoked meat sandwiches. (museemontrealjuif.ca)

A Museum of Memories

A far cry from a dusty, old-school museum, MEM is dedicated to the memories and oral histories of living Montrealers from different neighbourhoods and backgrounds. What makes it truly different is that this museum delivers their stories in their voices and their words. Visitors listen to stories using headphones and watching screens wherein they’re spoken to directly by Montrealers from a wide range of backgrounds and ethnic minorities. Some of the stories address racism, abuse and hardship, while others celebrate the diversity of Montreal’s arts scene, its natural beauty and its athletes. In one exhibit, titled “In My Shoes,” visitors swap their shoes for another pair of the same size on a shelf. Each pair belongs to a different Montrealer, and as you slip your feet into someone else’s shoes, you hear their voice on an MP3 player, telling the story of their life in all its triumph and tribulations. All the stories at MEM are deeply personal, striking and meaningful. (memmtl.ca)

Nordic Thermotherapy

For a serene break from the bustle of sightseeing, head to Nun’s Island, 20 minutes from downtown. Here, Strom Nordic Spa offers thermotherapy in a blissfully peaceful setting on the banks of a large pond. Visitors strip down to swimsuits and white gowns and move quietly between hot experiences like the eucalyptus steam bath, the Finnish sauna and the Nordic bath, and brief cold plunges. Each session culminates in a restful period in the spa’s many relaxation rooms, and outdoor spaces, all featuring comfy loungers, beautiful views and a respectful silence. With just wind and birdsong filling the air, this is a space of pure rest, meditation, comfort and recuperation. The spa also offers a restaurant with heart-stoppingly superb fare. With no time limit to a stay, visitors can take as long as they like to re-energize.

Dine

For Montreal’s best salads, head straight to Mandy’s, the brainchild of two sisters who started with a ‘create-your-own salad bar’ in the back of a women’s clothing store. Today they have eight locations in Montreal and three in Toronto, and their salads are nothing short of legendary. Forget boring oldies like Caesar, Greek and Garden. At Mandy’s each salad is a tantalizing mix of innovative vegetables, nuts, seeds and protein toppings that will revolutionize your understanding of the humble salad and leave you craving more. (mandys.ca)

Arthur’s Nosh Bar is a cozy, casual eatery in St-Henri that’s a neighbourhood hangout and an exceptional place to try Jewish

classics like crispy chicken on thick slices of challah, latkes and gravlax. Afterwards, take a walk around this eclectic urban village, or book a tour with local guide Daniel Bromberg to learn more about St-Henri’s architecture, its industrial past and its vibrant present. Foxy is a fine dining tapas restaurant in Montreal’s Little Burgundy neighbourhood that shines, especially for its vegetables. Each small plate that emerges from its wood-fired kitchen is a piece of art brimming with sumptuous flavour, and though the menu changes seasonally, this is an eatery where you simply can’t go wrong. Nothing, but nothing, is ordinary here. (foxy.restaurant)

Sleep Commute

Opened in 2021, Humaniti Hotel is a modern, sexy hotel in the heart of the city, steps from Old Montreal, the Palais de Congrès and the Quartier de Spectacles. Here, sophisticated but deeply comfortable accommodation meets fastidious environmental standards, with interesting art and sculpture sprinkled throughout the hotel. We loved the hotel’s clean lines, its abundance of natural light and its gallery-like interior. H3, the hotel’s restaurant, is an exceptional food destination that will humble anyone who thought they knew hotel food. (humanitihotel.com)

Porter Airlines launched its daily round trip service between Vancouver and Montreal in April, with a super comfortable 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft that is entirely devoid of the dreaded middle seat. Onboard service includes free, fast wifi, and its business class-like PorterReserve comes with fresh, healthy meals and seats with extra legroom. The new route makes the 4.5 hour flight to Montreal an easy, convenient commute. (flyporter.com)
