EXTENSION OF THE SECOND OPORTUNITIES PUBLIC SCHOOL + “LA CONSTÁNCIA” PASSAGE REHAB
NAVAS DISTRICT / BARCELONA 2020 - 2021

Plano de situación en Barcelona 1:20.000
We are in the Navas district, in the Sant Andreu district. Around the chosen location we can find schools, neighborhood houses and a nursing home. However, the block in question consists of high-density residential buildings and a very deteriorated interior of the low-density block. One of the peculiarities of this location is the presence of a small school. This was inaugurated in 2019 after rehabilitating an old public building, with the aim of reintegrating thousands of young people who abandoned their studies into employment. This publicly funded school is unique in Spain and currently suffers from a shortage of space to house all interested students. This is one of the main reasons that drive me to carry out this project. However, the project focuses on the rehabilitation of the passage of the Constancia, unlike the passage of Aloi, this is very deteriorated. It is a historical trace whose origin dates back to 1890. It was the path that linked the Turó de la Rovira with the district of Camp de l’Arpa. This traces the Guinardó district and was later integrated into the city. In this way a part of the road was trapped inside a block in the form of a passage. Passages in Barcelona have a long history. They are usually full of life as community spaces where neighbors interact. They are small connections between larger streets that allow you to escape from the city. However the passage of the Constancia has fallen into disuse. Due to the abandonment of the interior of the block, the citizens stopped passing through it, this fact generated a deteriorated space and without opportunities. The work will consist of a thorough analysis of the stocks, assessing the state of the buildings present and the accesses to the site. With the aim of regenerating the interior of the block so that the passage can regain its importance.

The old people’s house is also a recent building. Its original construction was in 1982, however in 2008 it was restored and equipped with this new use. It is complemented by the nursing home that we find on the other side of Carrer Sant Antoni María Claret. It is highly valued by the neighbors.
This old health center, in 2019, became the first municipal second-chance school in Spain. This school has the objective of guiding and accompanying young people who want to return to the educational system, to redirect them to the labor market. Currently the school has 30 places and aims to expand. This project is basically based on the expansion of this pioneering school.
The Orthodox Church of San Jorge, was remodeled in 2011 and is currently under construction. The complex is made up of 3 different volumes: the church nave, the annex building for services and the common basement that joins the two parts and occupies the entire plot.
The Passage de la Constancia, has configured a historical route since 1890. It was the path that linked the Turó de la Rovira with the district of Camp de l’Arpa. This route crossed the Guinardó neighborhood and was later absorbed by the city. In this way a part of the road was trapped inside a block in the form of a passage. To access this passage you have to go through a building on Passeig Maragall street, leaving a space unconnected with the city that has deteriorated over time.
The Aloi passage is a good example of the good preservation of the passage. This ended up dividing the block into two parts and its two-story single-family homes had better access. They are currently very well preserved.
The houses that we find in Carrer Capella and in Passage de la Constancia, were built between 1900 and 1930. In the case of the passage, most are garages and accesses to abandoned land inside the block.

From Sant Antoni María Claret street, we can see the rear facades of the current school and the old people’s home. This street has a lot of unevenness, so these buildings show a continuous plinth that grows in height. However, we do not find any access to the block from this street. Across the street are a primary school, a gym, a home for the elderly, a library and a nursery. These last three are the result of the Oliveras Boix Arquitectes project.
Paseo Maragall is one of the busiest avenues in the neighborhood. The main façade of the block turns towards this promenade. With a width of 31.5 meters, the walk is organized in 6 lanes in both directions. In this walk we find two accesses to the block through the passages. The Passage de la Constancia crosses the ground floor of a residential building.
The current underpass that connects the Passage de la Constancia with Passeig Maragall is in poor condition. The little interest that the passage has reached, has reduced the traffic through this passage, thus leaving a deteriorated space where homeless people are concentrated.
At the intersection of Sant Antoni María Claret with Calle Trinxant we find this old brick factory, from which a 50-meter chimney is erected. This fireplace stands as a landmark in the neighborhood.
The block to be treated has two green areas, on the south side is the Plaza del Taxi, which is very busy with elderly residents. In the northern part we find another park that brings together an area for dogs called Pipican and a children’s play area. These two small lungs greatly enhance the quality of life on the block.
The space that we find next to the school of second chances, and that borders between Capella street, Sant Antoni María Claret street and the taxi square; It is currently used by the neighborhood elders as a petanque court. This space joins the green areas that we find at the vertices of the block.

Proposal A pioneering school in a historic passage Barcelona has a pioneering space in education. A place where young people can recover their studies and embark on new paths. It is the first municipal second chance school (em2o) in Spain. The em2o aims to guide, accompany and support young people in their transition to adulthood. However, the school only offered 30 places in its first year and has a long waiting list. For this reason, the project aims to expand the facilities of this school to facilitate that more young people can resume their lives. In this context, the project aims to revitalize the passage in order to create a domestic and welcoming space. For this, the passage will be integrated into the expansion of the school, creating a community space inside the block. In this way it is intended that the passage recovers its importance as a collective and cohesion space in the block. The treatment of the accesses will be a fundamental point of the project, as well as the conservation and emphasis of the existing traces. For this reason, the em2o school will be spread over three main volumes adapted to the slopes, generating a dynamic and community space for users. At all times the premises of the project will be maintained, the light wooden architecture, sustainability and vegetation as a guarantor of environmental quality inside the block. For this reason, the project will have a green patio that guarantees the permeability of the roof from the passage. This will be the guarantor of generating a quality green space and giving order to the block through its rectangular shape. A new revitalized passage. A new apple to create new opportunities.
The new passage of Constancia The proposed passage guarantees a small-scale domestic space. The unidirectional wooden structure reflects on the facade some bays that refer to the rhythm generated by the single-family homes in the historic passages. All this without losing the linearity that emphasizes the layout of the passage. Both volumes create domestic spaces where interactions between members of the school and pedestrians can be established.

The proposal was born as a result of the study of the interior traces of the block, that is why the school is distributed in 3 volumes that adapt its shape to the existing geometry. On the one hand, the building in height that forms the closure of the block without losing the permeability through an access in the form of a passage. On the other hand, the central volume that adapts to the traces of the two interior passages so as not to lose its linearity and opens inside in the shape of a rectangular patio. This volume guarantees a cross ventilation space inside and a high environmental quality. In addition, its impluvium-type roof will collect the water inside and focus the views on this green courtyard inside the block. This monumental roof will be clean of impurities and will guarantee visual tranquility from inside the block. Finally, a third longitudinal volume that adapts to the passage of constancy and marks its linearity. This will house the residence and will be separated from the single-family homes in the Aloi passage. Three pieces that make up a whole, a new apple interior full of life.

The rooms that make up the residence guarantee the well-being of the student. These longitudinal modules measuring 3.70 by 8.60 meters are oriented to the south, guaranteeing natural light all year round. They have a covered terrace and work area. In addition, each of the bedrooms will include a full bathroom inside. Wood finishes and led lighting by rails, will guarantee a cozy space.
The different spaces that distribute the interior rooms in the residence and in the workshops will always be exterior with high natural light. These spaces are essential in the social interaction of the school so they must guarantee a pleasant stay.
The workshops have open work spaces inside the building. These spaces are very illuminated from both sides and turn their views to the interior green patio. The open spaces give the school freedom to modify the space according to use.

Inside the atlleres, we will find a place to escape from the city, a plant space full of life that will guarantee the environmental quality of the project. This completely rectangular patio will distribute the interior space of the entire volume of the workshops. All spaces will be devoted to him and he will take on great importance. Inside, a bleacher solves the internal unevenness, creating spaces for social encounters in it. A great variety of vegetation will fill the interior of this patio, some inside a cube-shaped greenhouse that will mark the monumentality of the space.

A sustainable construction
Residence longitudinal section 1:200
Both volumes will follow the same construction system. This system is very sustainable due to the materials used and the orientation of the volumes. The facades used in the three buildings will be ventilated facades using wooden battens from the Fermacell house, these facades called POWERPANEL H20 provide a high-quality finish and the air chamber allows to substantially improve the building’s energy efficiency. This is due to the chimney effect of the air chamber and the additional thermal resistance provided by the insulation that is placed in said chamber. Due to the permeability of the façade, the project is protected from solar radiation by means of wooden slat shutters. These allow a domestic image of the passage in addition to protecting the privacy of users inside the building. On the south façade of the residence, a lattice of continuous fixed wooden slats from the Tamiluz manufacturer is chosen. The roofs used will follow Tejado de placas de yeso pintado the line of sustainability and lightness of the project, for this an IMPLUVIUM roof is used over the workshops and auniformemente green roof over the residence. CINEMATOGRAPHIC SCHOOL REHABILITATION OF THE OLD GARAGES
CUATRO CAMINOS / MADRID 2018
Aproaches A garages with so much history. The Alfonso XIII Metropolitan Company begins construction of the first metropolitan line, Sol-Cuatro Caminos, in April 1917. In parallel, the Company establishes the need to create a precinct at the northern end of the line, attached to Reina Avenue. Victoria, for the parking, review, repair and assembly of the cars that will serve the metropolitan. The configuration of the complex was projected by the architect Antonio Palacios and the founding engineer of the Miguel Otamendi Company, among others, establishing a conjunction of styles typical of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, a mixture of European metallic industrial architecture and neo-Mudejar and regionalist architecture of Spanish brick. The facilities were inaugurated together with the first metropolitan line in October 1919. From the moment of its inauguration until the 1960s, the facilities of the garages did not cease to be expanded, in a process of growth parallel to that suffered by the network of the metropolitan. It is therefore the first historical industrial railway architectural complex destined to serve a metropolitan in Spain, currently in a state of acceptable conservation, owned by Metro de Madrid SA, maintaining secondary support services on lines 1 and 2. Due to an accumulation of indebtedness produced in recent years by the multiple works to expand the network, together with the marked decrease in users, Metro de Madrid began selling its plots that could be urbanized, including garages. The plan would involve the demolition of the garages and their replacement by new, buried ones. The project aims to turn this space into a public film school that would house more than 1000 students. Through the rehabilitation of the existing garages and the expansion of the enclosure to create spaces for recording production.

MEDINA DE RIOSECO / VALLADOLID 2018
Approaches The project to be developed will be a “Center for Hydrological Studies” on land near the Canal de Castilla, the most important infrastructure made in the 18th century. From the premises of enlightened thought, the creation of a network of navigable channels was proposed to connect very different points in the interior of the Iberian Peninsula with the seaports of the different coasts that border it. Of this ambitious initiative, only the one in Castilla was carried out, which runs through the provinces of Valladolid, Burgos and Palencia on the way to the port of Santander, carried out between the middle of the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century. In addition to its main mission as a means of transport, both for goods and people, it played an essential role in the irrigation of large areas of cereals, while promoting the establishment of manufacturing establishments that took advantage of the energy generated by water for the movement of your machinery. By closely linking ourselves to said infrastructure, we will work on a program that will have teaching areas (classrooms, workshops, spaces for research, etc.), spaces for exhibition and dissemination of hydrological heritage, Library, Assembly hall, as well as buildings for temporary residence of students and teachers. A diverse program that wants to get involved with the pre-existing elements of the canal itself and with nearby factories, but also with a unique landscape, a product of the colonization of the territory that this infrastructure implies. In this sense, the treatment of the exterior areas will be of special importance, whether it be the consideration of the edges: canal, dock, walkways and towpaths with their trees, locks, bridges and other various hydraulic elements, whether it is the construction of piers, piers and storage of boats and canoes, etc.

NAVE 1
Each of them has a different materiality according to its use. Those dedicated to common spaces are open to the space above, however, the service spaces are completely airtight. The museum has most of the capsules translucent, taking advantage of the maximum light that enters through the open skylights in the ceiling, with a new envelope. This system allows you to take a longer tour of the ship and constantly change the space.

Two arms intersect in a 20x20 base cube, which acts as a connector for the space. This has double height and parallel skylights on the roof. Thus a patio is formed, which through an ambulatory on the upper floor, the upper rooms are connected.

COMMON OBJECTS MUSEUM MUSEUM PROJECT IN THE VISTILLAS PARK
VISTILLAS PARK / MADRID 2018
Plano de situación 1:500
The proposal The project consists of the creation of a unique museum in Madrid’s Las Vistillas Park. The idea is to create a space that exhibits the nature of common objects over time. For this reason, it was decided to use two very conceptual pieces: the rectangle and the circle. Two abstract shapes that encompass millions of objects. The project will then consist of two volumes that are related to each other and house the uses of the museum. Materiality will be another tool to contrast the two elements. The main longitudinal building will have a glazed envelope that will allow one to perceive what is happening inside, while the cylinder will maintain a solid skin. The longitudinal element will be developed constructively due to its structural peculiarity.

The volume consists of a metal truss with large spans that houses the entire building. This truss is supported by four reinforced concrete supports that allow giving an effect to the cantilevered building. Inside, the uses will be distributed on 3 levels connected by ramps at the ends. These uses will be exhibition spaces, music rooms, conference room, cafeteria and store.

It is estimated that a HE HAS. of 2400 kg / m3 and having an area of 820m2, gives a weight of 1180800 kg. The weight of the structure would be about 302.69 kN which, added to the 12296.368kN of the concrete, gives a total of 12,599,068 kN Divided between the 4 supports Each support would support approximately 3150kN so the minimum profile is 1m x 0.5m Regarding the interior floors, a load of 12.9 kN / m2 is estimated in the upper floors of collaborating sheet and 14.32 kN / m2 in the case of the roof slab.
