Shelly Boshart Davis is rooted in Linn County and Oregon’s agriculture community. She grew up on a family farm in the Tangent and Shedd area. She attended Oregon State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Shelly has spent the last twelve years alongside her parents and siblings, helping grow the family farm and trucking business. Today, the farm has a global reach, shipping Oregon agricultural products to farmers as far as Japan and South Korea.

Shelly advocates for her community and industry as an active volunteer. She serves on the Government Affairs Committee for the Albany Chamber of Commerce, and previously sat on the local United Way board. In 2016, she was appointed to the Linn County Budget Committee.

Shelly is involved with the Linn County Farm Bureau, Oregon Women for Agriculture, Oregon Trucking Association, and Oregon Seed Council. Nationally, she has served as president for the U.S. Forage Export Council, and she sits on the advisory committee for the Agriculture Transportation Coalition. Shelly is passionate about agricultural education, sitting on the board for the nonprofit association, Oregon Aglink, and volunteering with three local schools through the Adopt-A-Farmer program.

Shelly and her husband, Geoff, have three daughters who are active in 4-H and FFA. They prefer to spend as much time as possible in the barn taking care of their animals, including raising hogs to show at the Linn County Fair.

KRISTIN SMITH

Professional Background: I began my real estate career as a Broker with Keller Williams Realty Mid-Willamette in 2007 after 2.5 years managing a construction company office. I got my Principal Broker license in 2017, and am constantly growing my knowledge of my industry by attending continuing education opportunities whenever possible. I currently hold the SRES (Seniors Real Estate Specialist) and PSA (Pricing Strategies Advisor) Designations from the National Association of REALTORS®, and am currently in the top 20% of production with my Brokerage

Biggest Issue Facing Albany: As a real estate broker, I feel that housing is our biggest issue We are facing a shortage of affordable housing for sale Home ownership is a critical piece of each individual's total net worth On average, a renter will have a net worth of less than $10K, while actually OWNING a home can elevate one's net worth to $200K or more. We need more opportunities for people to begin their home ownership journey, and that can trickle down to local building ordinances and regulations.

Business Marketing Niche: I'm regularly involved with volunteering at my church, with the local REALTOR® Association, and I actively participate in community events such as the Art & Air Festival

Community Involvement: I specialize in residential real estate services to Sellers, Buyers & Investors Our company mission is: Helping others achieve their dreams and build wealth through home ownership We treat our clients as if they were our friends and family.

Beware of Third-Party Athletics Donations

As the fall sports season approaches, Greater Albany Public Schools would like to warn the public about supporting nonaffiliated marketing material for our high schools.

Over the summer, the district received information from a concerned business owner about a company called “Spartan Sports” that promised to print a business logo on a RedHawks’ Tshirt in exchange for $350. A shirt was sent to the business owner and 100 shirts with many Albany business logos were sent to the high school. Neither the school district or South Albany High School have formal agreements in place with Spartan Sports or other third-party vendors for clothing sponsorships. The school did not receive direct financial compensation from Spartan Sports.

We encourage businesses to reach out to SAHS Athletics Director Jay Minyard at (541) 967-4522 if they would like to donate directly to the South Albany High School Athletics program.

Hayden Homes and First Story donated a total of $25,000 to Albany General Hospital Foundation along with backpacks of food for food-insecure patients

Webinar: What Employers Should Know About OregonSaves

July 31 was the deadline for Oregon businesses to enroll in the state’s mandatory retirement plan, OregonSaves. However, as Oregon Public Broadcasting reported days later, many employers didn’t know about the deadline – or even what OregonSaves is.

On Sept. 14, officials with the state treasurer’s office will present an overview of the program and answer questions from webinar participants.

For those who aren’t familiar with the program, employers that don’t offer their own retirement plans are required to enroll in OregonSaves. The program automatically directs 5% of employees’ salaries into their own IRAs via payroll deductions. Employees may choose to leave the program or change their contribution amounts.

The webinar will run from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14. Click the button below to register.

Paid Leave Oregon and the Bureau of Labor and Industries have released a fact sheet that addresses common questions about concurrent leave, which refers to leave taken at the same time under Paid Leave Oregon and the Oregon Family Leave Act

The document provides answers to nine questions and hypothetical scenarios, including the following:

What does the employer need to tell the employee about Paid Leave Oregon?

Must the employee take OFLA and paid leave under PLO at the same time if both programs cover the purpose of the leave?

How will the employer know the employee applied for leave under Paid Leave Oregon?

Is all leave taken under OFLA subject to the 16-18-week time limit if it is taken during the Paid Leave Oregon benefit year?

For the answers to these and other questions, click the button below

Updates, events and other information about the program can be found on Paid Leave Oregon's news and events web page here and on its page for employers here Additional information, including webinar recordings, can be found on OBI's Paid Leave Oregon resources page here as well
