GOLDEN TICKET WINNER:

DR. LISA AVERY - LBCC

Background:

"Lisa Avery began as Linn-Benton Community College President in summer 2020. She has worked in higher education for 25 years, spending 10 years as a full-time instructor before moving to administration. Originally from LaPorte, Indiana, Lisa is a firstgeneration college graduate. No offense to Indiana, but she loves living in Oregon, especially the Willamette Valley. Lisa and her family reside in Millersburg, and spend their free time at Talking Waters, Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge, and various food trucks and wineries around Albany. Lisa’s daughters attend Timber Ridge Middle School (Go Titans!) and Oregon State University (Go Beavs!). Lisa is a huge sports fan and loves attending LBCC Athletics events (Go Roadrunners!)."

Biggest Issue Facing Albany:

"Right now a lot of Albany residents are struggling with higher costs of housing and other commodities. A good reminder: LBCC has great programs that can be done flexibly and lead to a better-paying job. A couple of examples are Non-Destructive Testing (starting salaries above $60,000 for this 2-year program) and Medical Coding/Billing Specialist (the job demand is high for this program, which is only 9 months long). Our Degree Partnership Program with Oregon State University is going strong, and students who take their general education classes at LBCC save money, have smaller classes, and finish their degrees quickly."

Business Marketing Niche:

"LBCC is a major player in the economic development of Albany and the region. The college provides Education for All, offering classes, programs and enrichment experiences for residents of all ages. We also help connect businesses with well-trained employees, keeping the local economy in great shape."

Community Involvement:

"At LBCC, we see ourselves as the community’s college. For us, a major point of pride is how many of our community’s leaders attended LB. Accordingly, a shout-out goes to former Roadrunners such as Fire Chief Shane Wooton, Rep. Shelly Boshart-Davis, Judge Rachel Kittson-MaQatish, and MANY others who got their educational start at LBCC. We’re proud to serve Albany and help grow the talent for local industry to flourish."
