DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE
As Strive2Thrive (S2T) weathered the storms in 2017, not only did we realize we were “Albany Strong,” but we play an integral part in helping to transform the lives of our impoverished citizens in Albany-Dougherty County.
Our goal in 2017 was to increase community engagement and our capacity to serve more families - and we did just that! In 2017, the program served 104 families (225 individuals) in Phase I, Phase II and special programs. The statistics for the 42 families enrolled in Phase II (two-year) program include:
• 74 percent gainfully employed • 71 percent job retention after six months of employment • 100 percent reside in safe and affordable housing • 75 percent own reliable transportation • 98 percent High School Diploma or GED • 40 percent actively enrolled in monitored monthly savings plans
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT HIGHLIGHTS
Strive2Thrive served more than 300 meals to storm victims and interviewed more than 200 individuals at the Red Cross emergency center after the first and second storms in January 2017. S2T also partnered with the City of Albany to provide housing relocation and case management services through the Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) program. S2T engaged 92 volunteers for a total of 1,048 program volunteer hours. Our generous weekly meeting meal sponsors served 1,216 meals during our 20 weeks of training. S2T received a Station of Hope designation for its assistance with returning citizens. We collaborated with community partners to provide “hand-up” Thanksgiving meals for 65 local families. This is just a sampling of our 2017 community engagement! S2T salutes all of our generous donors, partners, volunteers and the community. Without you these results would not be possible. Together we can continue to empower Dougherty County families who live in poverty to move successfully towards self-sufficiency, by providing a
“HAND UP and not a HAND OUT!”
